The notification daemon for Maya does not automatically start in new GNOME
desktop sessions. It appears that this is due to a spurious
"OnlyShowIn=Pantheon" in its /etc/xdg/autostart entry (a symlink to
/usr/share/applications/maya-calendar-daemon.desktop) which prevents the daemon
from starting in GNOME.

Removing the line allows the notification daemon to start when the user logs
into GNOME:
