Hello, I have the same bug, after freeze, owner
of /run/user/1000/dconf/user changes to root:
-rw--- 1 root root 2 Mar 8 09:58 /run/user/1000/dconf/user
Package: gnome-shell
Version: 3.14.4-1~deb8u1
Followup-For: Bug #767173
Running on Gnome 3.14.1 and systemd 215-17
(VGA: nVidia GeForce 8600M GS ; issue appeared both with nouveau drivers as
well as current NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-340.96 proprietary driver installed.)
Have to confirm the issue
I can confirm this bug. The entire image freezes (also the video
playback in VLC which was going on). I can move the mouse around, but
cannot get any interaction. If i try to drag a window for instance,
nothing seems to happen. However... When I take over the computer with
VNC (Vino), the desktop
the gdm3 restart not work for me!!!
Moreover when I'm connected with a VGA cable and I switch between the
screens using FN+F8, after the 3 possible combinations the screen
becomes freezed (also with "root").
Regards,
Mark
I can still confirm the bug, I am using gnome-shell version "3.14.4-1".Is
it fixed or the root cause found? if there is any other workaround to overcome
the issue plese let me know.
I couldn't find any specific pattern of this freezing issue. But, for me
freezing happened in the following
Which logs are useful to track this bug?
May I help you?
This error is systematic: every time I launch a graphical application as
root (eg. Krusader) and I click on activities on left screen-corner my
display get freeze as reported.
Also try to switch to console 1 and kill-stop-restart gdm not
No...
I use NFS4 /home with a lot of freezes, NFS3 solve the problem for me.
Freeze was exactly 15 seconds.
Do you have a NFS /home ?
Same problem!

Sorry for the delayed response. My

That is *before* you try start gedit as root, true?

I reproduce the desktop freeze when I press Alt+F2.
I have the same problem as the rest of the people.
Some times debian 8 freeze my desktop and I need to restart the
computer.
How I can't report a detailed log?
Thanks a lot!

Ok, I've found out more and now can reproduce the bug reliably every time.
How to reproduce this bug:
1. reboot computer
2. start Root Terminal
3. type `gedit` in this root terminal to start it (I guess any other
program will do to, but I haven't tested it)
4. click on Activities OR move
I think this is probably the same bug that happens whenever I
right-click on the desktop.
Using alt+f2 r to restart gnome-shell brings it back to normal.

Originally I wanted to reply to bug #675345, but the reportbug tool
created a new bug number instead.
I'm not even sure the bug is in gnome-shell. I should have filed the bug
for the more general package `gnome`.
I can right-click on the desktop without problems.
I have been running Debian
