Hi, although you already answered (in private) the request to include this patch negatively once in the past, I would like to ask you to consider it again.
We are getting more serious about packaging SageMath for Debian and currently we need to maintain a patched maxima package in a private APT repo (see [1]). In your private mail you mentioned ways to avoid having this ecl version of Maxima. However packaging SageMath is already a very large effort and doing things differently requires a large amount of extra work and introduces bugs. The additional maxima-ecl package does not interfere with the other maxima packages and should not interfere with anyones maxima workflow. We could also call the package e.g. maxima-sage to make this more clear. If we create another source package to achieve this there would be a lot of duplication. If you are still strictly against applying the patch, would you be ok with us uploading an alternative maxima-ecl package? If yes, could you give advice on how to do this in detail? For example, would we need to provide duplicates of the files in the package maxima-share in order to avoid having to track the exact version of your package?
