Thank you Michael for the analysis. This bug has affected me too, and I
think is particularly likely to affect security-conscious users since
removing extra kernel modules is a basic hardening step.

I have already INCLUDED A PATCH at the BOTTOM OF THIS REPORT that
fixes this issue. PLEASE, for the sake of Debian's users, get this
into Jessie before its quiet period starts on April 18th (5 days
away)!
