Work is ongoing to make Samba use python3, but upstream still needs much more work, and a more diverse set of contributors.
Currently Red Hat is doing most of the work and I'm doing most of the review, this needs to be broadened. It is much more than 'just' building the packages for python3, we use the C bindings extensively.
