Same issue with the Hitachi/HGST Travelstar Z5K500 drive. Please consider adding this line in /etc/hddtemp.db: "(Hitachi|HGST|APPLE HDD) HT[ES]5450(25|32|50)A7E(362|38[01]|680)" 190 C "Hitachi/HGST Travelstar Z5K500" After that netcat hddtemp correctly reports the drive temperature: $ netcat
