Package: alpine Version: 2.20+dfsg1-7 Severity: normal Dearest Maintainer,
The packaged version of Alpine does not want to write to .pinerc if that file already exists as a symlink (it writes happily if the symlinked file is copied to the ~/.pinerc location). This causes a bit of friction when upgrading, as the `last-version-used` variable never gets incremented, so the cheerful "Welcome to the Brave New Version of Alpine World" dialog gets shown on every launch. This problem has be reported and apparently fixed upstream (I haven't tested that patch, but could do so on request): http://mailman13.u.washington.edu/pipermail/alpine-info/2015-February/006450.html Not sure if it's known, but upstream is up to 2.20.999 (!). It looks like source package releases stopped at 2.20, and new versions are just bumped in the git repo: http://repo.or.cz/alpine.git/commit/accf5768851fc5f323e66c41de43061e86d4a9f6 --bryan -- System Information: Debian Release: 9.0 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 4.9.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages alpine depends on: ii libc6 2.24-9 ii libgssapi-krb5-2 1.15-1 ii libkrb5-3 1.15-1 ii libldap-2.4-2 2.4.44+dfsg-3 ii libpam0g 1.1.8-3.5 ii libssl1.0.2 1.0.2k-1 ii libtinfo5 6.0+20161126-1 ii mlock 8:2007f~dfsg-5 Versions of packages alpine recommends: ii alpine-doc 1.20+dfsg1-7 Versions of packages alpine suggests: ii aspell 0.60.7~20110707-3+b1 ii exim4-daemon-light [mail-transport-agent] 4.88-5 -- no debconf information
