Package: alpine Version: 2.20+dfsg1-7 Severity: important Dear Maintainer,
We upgraded both our dovecot imap server and user server to stretch and since then our user who uses alpine report random "IMAP connection broken (server response)" error messages with missing email content/missing folder list and other symptoms later when not quitting alpine immediately. We enabled debugging in dovecot and alpine as well and at the maximum level we could gather the following information: alpine: IMAP 18:50:12 10/11 mm_log tcp: SSL data read end of file IMAP 18:50:12 10/11 mm_notify bye: {XXXX:993/imap/notls/ssl/user="YYYY"}ZZZZ: [CLOSED] IMAP connection broken (server response) dovecot: Oct 11 18:50:12 XXXX dovecot: imap-login: Debug: SSL error: SSL_read() failed: error:140E0197:SSL routines:SSL_shutdown:shutdown while in init According to https://github.com/openssl/openssl/issues/710 it seems to be it is not allowed anymore to call SSL_shutdown() while SSL_in_init() returns true and possibly alpine does exactly this. In this state alpine is almost unusable and we cannot continue to migrate our other servers with more alpine users to stretch. If you need more information, please let me know.
