The only new information I have is that the recent update to apparmor purports
to resolve the bug that was stopping me from enabling Thunderbird's profile.
I re-enabled it and attempted to send email to people who were not in my
address book, and the emails went out successfully. So the problem

I can confirm that this bug exists in 1:52.4.0-1, as well as 1:52.4.0-1~deb9u1
and 1:52.5.0-1. It seems to be the same as the bug discussed at the following
