I second this wish, and would further ask to enable CONFIG_SQUASHFS_FILE_DIRECT, as this will improve performance. The "downside" would be that with a bottleneck removed, more IO can then mean more CPU Resources are used by the kernel (though I don't see that a downside, just means some threads

Package: src:linux Version: 4.14.2-1 Severity: minor Dear Maintainer, Please compile kernel 4.14 and later with CONFIG_SQUASHFS_ZSTD=yes to enable support of Zstandard squashfs images. Kernel 4.14 enabled zstd in the kernel, which works with btrfs, but needs enabled for squashfs. --
