Given the bug history, this would look more like an isolated problem, certainly not a bug in emacs (which is a metapackage anyway). I'm reassigning this to xfce4 and lowering the severity, so the submitter and the xfce4 maintainer can work together on moving this bug to the proper place. In my non-xfce4 environment, neither emacs or xterm make my X server crash with the posted command lines. Thanks, Chris
