Aha, I see in https://trac.wxwidgets.org/ticket/17391 that one can
simulate with e.g. GDK_SCALE=2 in the environment.

Some obervations on the bug:
Only the drawing seems to be botched. Mouse coordinates seem to be
matching with the window area, so e.g
