Package: lintian-brush
Severity: wishlist

In situations where there are name or contact fields in the upstream
metadata file that have equivalent fields in the copyright file, please
check that the field values are the same in both files before removing
the field from the upstream metadata file.

The fixer for this issue should instead return an error so that the
maintainer can notice the discrepancy and then manually reconcile the
two fields, choosing the best option for the package.

In my case FoxtrotGPS, the upstream metadata file had a URL to a
mailing list while the copyright file just had the email of the mailing
list. The web page of the mailing list is more useful than the email
address since it has an intro, allows you to subscribe etc.

PS: personally I think these fields should be removed from the
copyright file instead of the upstream metadata file, but that is a
topic for another discussion in another place.
