Package: wnpp Severity: normal I intend to orphan the freepats package. Before orphaning, I have cleaned up the package (described below).
The (updated) package description is: Freepats is a free patch set suitable for MIDI audio synthesis. It is not complete, nor comprehensive yet. . This is the legacy, small version of freepats in GUS patch format. This is a very old package, prior to orphaning, it had last been uploaded in 2006(!). Before orphaning, I have repackaged it using dh and debhelper compatibility level 12 to ease QA work. Freepats upstream *is* *active*, but the new versions are 10x bigger and switched to the newer SF2 format instead of the older GUS pat format. It will be up to a new maintainer to decide what they want to do about it. It would make sense to compare a new SF2 freepats to at least the fluid GM soundfont, too. As for reverse dependencies of freepats, at least TiMidity++ can deal with the newer SF2 format used by the new upstream versions, but I have not checked other reverse dependencies of freepats. Hopefully someone that is actively working with MIDI synthesis in Debian can adopt this package. -- Henrique Holschuh
