in /etc/squid/squid.conf the directive include /etc/squid/conf.d/* also loads backup files created by editors (files ending with "~"). That's at least surprising, to avoid unintended results it shouldd be changed to something like include /etc/squid/conf.d/*.conf Otherwise it's necessary to always check if the editor created a backup file and delete it before squid reads it's configuration. The location to patch would be in: debian/patches/0001-Default-configuration-file-for-debian.patch As the fix is trivial, I'm not including a patch.
