While looking deeper it might be that there is some kind of "caching" going on and a previously filtered source file is re-used and thus the changed gbp import-orig filter settings don't always take effect.
Also, when doing this I might be required to rename the sources to ~dfsg, so I need to take a step back and rethink my approach here.
