This bug was originally reported in Ubuntu here[1]. The reporter had a valid hostname, "saturn", but due to another bug (also reported in Ubuntu here[2]), the hostname is changed to "saturn.." (that is, 2 dots are added) and this causes the hostname to be invalid, thereby blocking package upgrades, et al. I was wondering if this is known or can we do something about this, please?
