Bug#350239: [hppa] ld doesn't like outputting to /dev/null

2006-01-27 Thread Kyle McMartin
Package: binutils
Version: 2.16.1cvs20051214-1

The Linux kernel's make menuconfig on hppa currently fails because
it tries to do

scripts/kconfig/lxdialog/check-lxdialog.sh:

[..]
echo "main() {}" | $cc -lncurses -xc - -o /dev/null 2> /dev/null
[..]

To check which ncurses library it is able to link against.

This output to /dev/null causes none of the ncurses options to get
picked and thus, lxdialog to fail to link.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/git/parisc-2.6% echo "main() {}" | gcc -lncursesw -xc - -o
/dev/null
/usr/bin/ld: final link failed: Nonrepresentable section on output
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

Downgrading to previous version of binutils have the same problem, so
I'm unsure when this was introduced (and don't have time to sleuth too
far back).

Currently this change is pending for 2.6.16, so no release kernels
are bitten by it yet, but I suspect it may be a problem for other
Debian arches (though it wasn't on i386/ia64).

[CC'd to debian-hppa so some hppa toolchain guru can see it]

Cheers,
Kyle

According to this excellent document (everybody involved into this
discussion should read it!)

  http://people.redhat.com/drepper/dsohowto.pdf

which describes all aspects of writing DLLs, symbol versioning isn't
portable. Consequently, this must be hidden with macros. If someone
comes up with an elegant macro solution which doesn't uglify the
source code and which are easy to use I don't object to add this to
the CVS. In case we introduce that we should do it right, this is,
support symbol versioning in the source code too. Takers? Comments?

Bug#350238: mod-monno: Debconf templates do not follow Developer's Reference recommendations

2006-01-27 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: mod-monno
Version: N/A
Severity: minor

The debconf templates for this package do not follow the
recommendations given in the Developers Reference, section 6.5
("Configuration management with debconf").

Even though not mandatory, this part gives general advices about the
Right Way to write debconf templates to achieve a general consistency
in Debian about the way to prompt users. Please make your best
following these advices.

If you follow these suggestions, please consider later using the
podebconf-report-po utility from the "po-debconf" package, to notify
translators of the induced changes. Then leave them a few days to
update their translations (1 week is considered good practice so that
translation teams can apply their usual QA policies).

This bug report template is mostly generic so I can't point out
exactly which part of your debconf templates I have considered not
following these recommendations. I recommend your first read the
mentioned part of the DR, make the changes you feell needed, then come
back to me with the new templates file.

Most often encountered "errors":

-using interrogative form for string/select/multiselect templates. For
instance: "Which web server should be reconfigured?" instead of "Web
 server to reconfigure:"

-making specific reference to some debconf interfaces widgets such as
using "If you choose 'No'" in boolean templates

-using the first person ("I will do this")

-too long extended description (should idealistically fit in one
screen with the dialog interface in a 80x25 terminal)

-extended description repeating the short description

-extended description using an interrogative sentence in a boolean
template. Only the short description should issue a question in such
 templates.

-repeat the short description i nthe long description

-non informative enough template. Think about users who install
your package among dozens of others

-too long template (fitting on a 80x25 screen is recommended)

etc...

Please get in touch with me in case you need more details about why I
think your templates file need some rewrite. If you do so, please
attach the debian/templates of debian/.templates file so that
I can propose you a rewrite.

I suspect this is the problem:

(linux/prctl.h)
# define PR_UNALIGN_NOPRINT 1 /* silently fix up unaligned user
accesses */
# define PR_UNALIGN_SIGBUS 2 /* generate SIGBUS on unaligned user

#define PARISC_UAC_NOPRINT  (1UL << 0)  /* see prctl and unaligned.c */
#define PARISC_UAC_SIGBUS   (1UL << 1)

IE, NOPRINT is set by 1, and SIGBUS set by 2.

on alpha, because it's reusing the OSF/1 crap, the order is
NOPRINT, NOFIX, SIGNAL, ie: 1, 2, 4.

I don't know what the best way to fix this is, but something like
this patch will probably help,

I'm not sure, I'd recommend adding a printk to GET/SET_UNALIGN_CTL
to see if the correct values are being set to flags, barring that
I'll take a look at alpha's unaligned handler and see if I missed
something when I said "shouldn't need any other work."

After changing addr to value, compiles fine; prctl -q runs ok now, prctl
--unaligned=signal doesn't have any effect. You say that it's going to be
the prctl() function in the kernel that needs further tweaks?

When a client sends a huge chat buffer to the server, either the server

The problem has been fixed in 0.9.49, which will be uploaded soon. This

Bug#328051: libgstreamer-perl: FTBFS: Failed test scripts

2006-01-27 Thread Jurij Smakov

Hi,

I've recently investigated the FTBFS on sparc (where it fails even before
getting to the testing stage [0]), and found that the build failure was
caused by lack of a call to gst_init() in the BOOT section of xs/Gst.xs.

Without it the code segfaults with the following backtrace:

#0 0x7022aaec in pthread_mutex_lock () from /lib/libpthread.so.0
#1 0x70763830 in gst_atomic_int_read (aint=0x708cfb0c) at gstatomic_impl.h:488
#2 0x707917d4 in gst_debug_get_default_threshold () at gstinfo.c:761
#3 0x70791a48 in gst_debug_reset_threshold (category=0x44618, unused=0x0) at

#4 0x707927b0 in _gst_debug_category_new (name=0x7080abc8 "GST_DATAFLOW", color=258,

#6 0x706d6aac in boot_GStreamer (my_perl=0x24098, cv=0xe084c) at Gst.xs:31

gst_debug_get_default threshold tries to read the default debug level from
a lock-protected variable, which is normally initialized by gst_init().
Since it is not called, the lock is NULL, resulting in a segfault. I was
able to build libgstreamer-perl successfully on sparc (passing all the
tests) after applying the attached patch. The full build log is available
at [1]. It might be that it will also help with other build failures.

Bug#350236: /usr/share/man/man2/kill.2.gz: effect of kill send by process to itself not fully clear

2006-01-27 Thread Britton Leo Kerin
Package: manpages-dev
Version: 2.17-1
Severity: normal
File: /usr/share/man/man2/kill.2.gz

The nots section of the kill man page contains this paragraph:

POSIX 1003.1-2003 requires that if a process sends a signal to
itself, and that process does not have the signal blocked, and no
other thread has it unblocked or is waiting for it in sigwait(),
at least one unblocked signal must be delivered to the sending
thread before the call of kill() returns.

Presumably this means that if a thread which doesn't have the signal
blocked in its mask raises the signal, it is gauranteed to get it
before kill returns even if all other threads do have it blocked, but
it would be nice if this were stated explicitly. Probably language
elsewhere in the standard makes this clear, but this excert taken in
isolation leaves some room for doubt, especially given the history of
thread implementation on linux.

Bug#349588: it works; update to apt-cacher.1 ?

2006-01-27 Thread Andrew Schulman
I've updated to apt-cacher 1.5 and it does indeed work now as a pure HTTP
proxy for apt-get. For the record, I misstated the entry
in /etc/apt/apt.conf. It should be

Acquire::http::Proxy "http://proxyhost:port";

Since this is now the simplest and most transparent method for configuring
apt-cacher, could you add a mention of it to the man page?

Thanks again for making this improvement so quickly.
Andrew.

Bug#350235: udev: pcmcia ide disk rescanned constantly

2006-01-27 Thread Hamish Moffatt
Package: udev
Version: 0.081-1
Severity: normal

Since upgrading to this udev I have trouble with a compact flash card in
a PCMCIA adapter. When I insert the card, the kernel scans it and then
prints the partition list non-stop.

Jan 28 16:09:39 buzzword kernel: hde: hde1
Jan 28 16:09:39 buzzword last message repeated 81 times

udevd chews a lot of CPU. The rest of the normal hotplug process (hal,
gnome-volume-manager etc) never happens. If I remove the device, the
machine will hang soon after.

If I boot without udev loaded, this doesn't happen. I get a single
partition scan and I can mount the device properly. As soon as I then
start udev, the rescanning starts.

Hamish

Bug#350234: tla/baz: issues "commit" even if "import" necessary

2006-01-27 Thread Lionel Elie Mamane
Package: tla-load-dirs

tla-load-dirs doesn't support importing a first (base-0) revision,

But this is a missing dependency in whatever package provides the .la file
that depends on libexpat.la. The libtool commandline is missing from the
output you cited.

Hmm. Not sure.

But maybe I should clarify that I was not trying to paste the text inside the
text box, but the text box itself. I can paste text just fine, but I cannot
copy-and-paste the text boxes that contain the text.

(I think I should make this clear since I don't think one can middle-click to
paste text boxes.)

I'll see if I can find another Debian box and dist-upgrade it to test...

Bug#350232: shopt -s no_empty_cmd_completion not quite durable enough

2006-01-27 Thread Tim Connors
Package: bash
Version: 3.1-2
Severity: normal

`shopt -s no_empty_cmd_completion' allows us to paste in segments of
bash scripts with indenting via X's copy buffer, without erronously
triggering bash completion.

However, it only works if we use either tabs or spaces exclusively in
the scripts being copied. If a line being pasted contains a bunch of
spaces, then a tab, then completion is attempted on all ~4000 items in
one's PATH.

Spaces alone should hence be treated as an empty readline buffer for
the purposes of no_empty_cmd_completion.

Alternatively, if it is at all possible to detect that the contents of
a copy buffer are being pasted into bash (via either shift-insert, or
the middle mouse button), then bash should have the option to turn off
completion all together, for the duration of the copy.

Hi Michael,

Yes I do have update-manager installed. Uninstalling it fixed the problem
immediately, even without purging.
Reinstalling update-manager brings the problem straight back. It seems the
two co-existing on the same system causes this bug with synaptic alright.

Hope this helps.

Description : a family of C++ classes for Socket Operations

The socket++ library defines a family of C++ classes that can be used more
effectively than directly calling the underlying low-level system functions.
One distinct advantage of the socket++ is that it has the same interface as
that of the iostream so that the users can perform type-safe input output.

OK, stupid me, someone put it there without me noticing. I should define
some stricter policies on commits to gnome-terminal... heh.

Bug#350227: apachetop: enable regular expression support for filters

2006-01-27 Thread Sven Koch
Package: apachetop

This should be the last for today ;)

When the libpcre is available on the system, apachetop compiles against
it and uses it for its filters.

How about adding libpcre3-dev to the build depends?

Bug#350228: lintian: false positive package-uses-deprecated-debhelper-compat-version with cdbs

2006-01-27 Thread Jay Berkenbilt
Package: lintian
Version: 1.23.15
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

If a package uses cdbs and includes debhelper.mk, then it is using a
correct debhelper compatibility version of 4. If you don't have a
debian/compat file that contains 4 (which cdbs will create
automatically, but may not be in the original sources), you will a
warning such as this one:

W: tiff source: package-uses-deprecated-debhelper-compat-version 1

I believe a sensible fix is to simply recognize that the correct
dhcompatvalue is 4 if cdbs is in use. The lintian debhelper check
already makes other assumptions based on cdbs. This one-line patch
should do the job. It has the unfortunate property of hard-coding the
number "4" as the current debhelper compat version in another place,
but that's easily rectified if desirable.

Coreutils in sarge and etch are above 5.0.91. The current amavisd-new
packages in Sid/Etch are targetting Etch and concern themselves only with
Sarge.

I am inclined not to fix this bug. Brian, what do you think?

Bug#350225: apachetop: memory leaks and some more

2006-01-27 Thread Sven Koch
Package: apachetop
Version: 0.12.5-7
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

hallo,

hope I don't get too annoying.

I've used apachetop now for some weeks running in screen on a moderately
busy server - after some days (with 3-8 hits/s) it takes lots of ram, last
time I've killed it it used over 300mb - so I started debugging, keeping the
hits of the last 15min in memory should never take that much.

The result are two found memory leaks, and two small changes/fixes to use
even less ram.

Description of the Changes:

1.
src/timed_circle.cc src/hit_circle.cc
missing twice: if (hit->ip_pos) im->sub_ref(hit->ip_pos);
ip map entries are never freed, memory leak (notably if you
have many users and a long running apachetop)

needs small check in src/map.cc map::sub_ref(), for -1 in
hit->ip_pos

2.
src/timed_circle.cc src/hit_circle.cc
if (hit->host_pos) - checks for '!= 0', but 0 is a valid position
first entry in each map is never freed, memory leak (but small)

still unfixed in my patch

3.
src/map.cc
map::destroy()
calls tab_hash->destroy() twice, once direct and once through
"delete tab_hash"
(harmless because hashes are never freed/only at program exit)

4.
src/map.cc
map::sub_ref():
directly free/reinit tab positions to free no longer needed string
memory

And the patch:

Bug#140937: bug is still present with evolution 2.4.2.1

2006-01-27 Thread Frank Hart
I can reproduce this bug:
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
X-Mailer: reportbug 3.18
Date: Sat, 28 Jan 2006 03:08:24 +0100

Package: evolution
Version: 2.4.2.1-1
Followup-For: Bug #140937

1. create 2 new maildirfolders in ~/Maildir on the imapserver:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/Maildir$ maildirmake.dovecot .test.1
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/Maildir$ maildirmake.dovecot .test.2

This is the ExtendedMaildiFormat introduced by Courier to create
subfolders (http://wiki.mutt.org/?ExtendedMaildirFormat):
Maildir/
 cur/
 new/
 tmp/
 .test.1/
  cur/
  new/
  tmp/
 .test.2/
  cur/
  new/
  tmp/

In a MUA, it would look like this:
 INBOX
 |-test
 | |-1
 | `-2
 `-Sent

2. Now subscribe to the new subfolders in Evolution:
'Folder --> Subscriptions --> Refresh' and select 'test'

This gives: "Error while performing operation. IMAP command failed:
[TRYCREATE] Mailbox doesn't exist: test"

The subfolders can be selected but they aren't visible until Evolution
is restarted.

The subfolders can only be accessed when the tree is expanded. If you
try to select the 'test' folder directly you get: "Error while Opening
folder imap://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/tst;noselect=yes. No such folder
test"

These problems don't occur in Thunderbird or Mutt. In TB, the 'test'
folder is grey and italic and in mutt the folder is shown as 'test.'.

A workaround is to manually create a new folder in Evolution and after
that create the subfolders. But that isn't right because you now have an
empty 'test' folder with a 'new', 'cur' and 'tmp' dir in it.

hth,
Frank

Bug#350025: Update.

2006-01-27 Thread Zephaniah E. Hull
tags 350025 + patch
stop

The problem is caused because I have a package with a status entry
larger then 32k.

Attached is a patch which fixes the problem by the expedient of using
mmap instead of a sliding buffer, it has been tempted and works fine.

Note, the constructor still has a size argument, it's just not used.

I didn't want to change the API, I'll leave that bit of cleanup to the
apt maintainers.

Thanks.

I don't have any sort of idea, since I'm really not aware of all that
kind of KDE stuff.

Reproducible on my side too. Signal 11.

I'm not sure I'll investigate on this one, because running yakuake
with a single tab and no tab-bar is sufficient for me, I use it as a
launcher (instead of xfrun4 for example).

Cheers,

If you mean CONFIG_ISAPNP, there's no such config option in 2.6.15.1.
However, I do have CONFIG_PNP and CONFIG_PNPACPI set.

>
> (Or maybe you have an empty /etc/modprobe.conf.)
Yes, it's non-existent, but it's not necessary according to the manual
page, as the files in /etc/modprobe.d directory are used then.

Also please note, that by just downgrading to udev 0.081-1,
udevsynthesize loads all the missing modules.

 - program to execute: wvMime '%s'
 - running test: test -n "$DISPLAY" (result=0=true)
 - executing: wvMime 'elen7b.doc' | /usr/bin/see --action=view text/plain:-

Some package other than mime-support has installed this rule. Try

  grep wvMime /usr/lib/mime/packages/*

Then reassign this bug against that package.

And I dont have crappy lynx. Why the hell it is trying to use not installed
programs for displaying this *.doc

It shouldn't be calling lynx. It should instead pipe it to

print text/html:-

and let that rule determine how to convert text/html to text/plain for
printing.

I discovered that these messages are not really an error (the built
initrd is just fine). The error is caused by already existing symlinks
to busybox which isn't in the place (/bin2/busybox) the symlink points
to during build of the initrd.

I attached a patch for /etc/mkinitrd/scripts/netboot (appliable to the
netboot script of initrd-netboot-tools 0.5.3cvs.20040906-16) which lets
the netboot script detect those cases and print out a notice instead of
copying and failing. If you think that this notice might confuse other
users just skip the else clause in the added code. :-)

Bug#350218: initscripts: Bootclean doesn't clean all nested directories in /tmp

2006-01-27 Thread Piotr Kaczuba
Package: initscripts
Version: 2.86.ds1-11
Severity: normal

When cleaning /tmp, bootclean doesn't remove all directories. The
problem seems to be, that find lists first a parent directory and then
the directories beneath. Removing the parent directory fails silently,
because it's not empty. Thus, after having run, bootclean leaves some
empty directories.

Ignore my libtool statement, I was confusing it with another bug.

Huh? The errors you quoted are all about automake and autoconf. How do you
expect a different libtool to make a difference?

The fix is to either build-depend on automake/autoconf, or to add
AM_MAINTAINER_MODE to configure.in when including autogenerated files in the
Debian diff (as has been done here).

That sounds like a problem down in the X libraries, though it is hard
to be sure without being able to reproduce this. Is this something that
you can trigger by just viewing the same message with mutt, or is it
while composing (which is harder to reproduce)?

You're welcome to think it. I have decided that it is worse to have data
or filesystem corruption than to have a slow drive until you do a little
extra work (in this case, setting up a symlink and editing a file that has
to be edited anyway). Unless you're prepared to assure me that this bug
in some other thing will never again be triggered by someone innocently
running an init script at boot, I will continue to think the way I do.

No, we already have one script mount root, and another mount all the other
file systems. My approach mirrors that - run the hdparm script once for
the root file system, wait for modules to be loaded, and run it again.
This is not some strange new thing here.

If you have a solution that:
a) Doesn't cause data corruption by running on a drive that is mounted
b) Works with udev/hotplug setups, but also without them
c) also only runs after modules are loaded (but doesn't run a second
time on the root drive, since it has been set up already)

Point me to it. I'm happy to consider patches or new ideas. I've about
bent this script as far as it will bend, and I'd be happy to go for
something simpler, but I can't seem to think of a new way to come at
the problem that solves the 3 problems above in a more elegant way.

By the way, please use whatever equivalent of reply-to-all your mailer
uses to keep the bug report in the email trail.

Bug#350217: libcairo2: gpaint badmatch error

2006-01-27 Thread Kevin Ryde
Package: libcairo2
Version: 1.0.2-3
Severity: normal

Running up gpaint on my old 8-bit pseudocolor display results in a
BadMatch error per the backtrace and the xmon capture below. I don't
know if libcairo2 is actually to blame, but it's fairly prominent in
the call stack.

The depth of "00" shown in the xmon looks a bit suspicious, I think
I'd expect to see 8 there, but I don't know where it would have come
through from. Maybe it's something bad in gtk or gdk.

The gimp fails to start in a similar way, with a badmatch. And I've
been getting crashes from mozilla attempting to drag and drop (and
open a menu, and expand a window) which might be similar to bug
347675. But gimp and mozilla aren't cooperating with gdb for me,
gpaint is the only one where I can even set a breakpoint. :-(

Hi,
The string match in iptables on current 2.6.x kernels needs iptables

Yeah, I noticed that and just haven't had a chance to do another upload.
Hopefully tonight, if not tomorrow.

Thanks!

I think, the data corruption caused by hw or kernel bug.
Your sollution is only a workaround for a nasty thing, and violates the

Bug#349550: Bug$349550: r-cran-nlme - fails to uninstall

2006-01-27 Thread Dirk Eddelbuettel

That bug reported against r-cran-nlme is arguably the same bug as

Bug#349637: r-base-core: /usr/lib to /usr/share move breaks \
R modules installation and removal

where it was triggered by r-cran-matrix, but reported against r-base-core.

The problem lies somewhere between both packages: r-cran-nlme shouldn't make
the call it makes, and version 2.2.1-3 of r-base-core failed to support
it. Earlier versions did, newer versions such as 2.2.1-4 do support it too.
In other words, #349637 is now closed and I think it would be fair to
downgrade this one as it is not release-critical any more. I'd even say close
it, but it may make sense to keep it open until nlme has adjusted its
postinst/postrm.

Regards, Dirk

I'll remove it.

Hmm, just found some other issues regarding this CVE-2005-4439. Previous
tests had seemed fine to me, but when I made more tests, the bug came up
again. I believe the attached patch should fix this completely. Stefan,
could you have a look at it please?

Bug#318825: dpkg: fix erranous "directory not empty" warnings (other patch)

> Summary: as far as I can see, the experimental version of dpkg plus

There is one problem with the patch: It has the potential
to leave empty directories behind on removal (they will get
removed on purge, though).
This happens in the case that two packages which have both conffiles
share a directory which has no conffiles in it. The directory will be
left behind on removal even though there are no files left in it.
(If that description was too terse, just ask. I can certainly explain
that in more detail)

This is because the test isdirectoryinuse is actually not what we want
to test. The _real_ question is "is directory in use by my own conffiles?"
Because if it isn't, there is no problem... Can someone more familiar
with dpkg tell me how to express this question in code?

Gruesse,

Yes, that is an issue. We're working on getting as many of these
double-linkages fixed in Debian as possible, since it's not a sane
assumption that libraries will never undergo ABI changes; but that doesn't
directly benefit the rest of the world so long as Debian's libtool fixes
aren't integrated upstream.

One change that *would* mitigate the problems for other distributors (and
Debian) is, since freetype 2.2 will already include a linker script, to add
symbol versions to that linker script. This would give, um... a 50-50
chance of avoiding segfaults (or other corruption) with both libfreetype6
and libfreetype7 loaded in memory, assuming that the package upgraded to the
libfreetype7 version is chosen randomly. I don't know if you consider those
odds good enough to forgo a conflict between libfreetype6 and libfreetype7
in Red Hat; they seem good enough for me given that we would not want to
ship libfreetype6 at all in etch and therefore the problems would be wholly
limited to partial upgrades from sarge.

> If you made libfreetype7 conflict with libfreetype6, then the you
> wouldn't have that problem, and you'd just have a massive rebuild

We'll have a massive rebuild job for etch either way, since we're already
caught on ABI changes with 2.1.10 in Debian unstable; it's just deferred
pending the release of freetype 2.2 upstream and a "final" ABI to rebuild
against. If freetype 2.2 is released with the same libfreetype.so.6 soname,
we will still have to provide a transition for packages by renaming the
package itself to libfreetype6debian1 or the like, and still conflicting
with libfreetype6; so changing the soname can only make things slightly
better for us, it won't make it any worse.

That's indeed true, but AFAICT having random libfreetypes floating around is
pretty likely to cause problems for users *without* an soname change as
well, given the high profile of those libraries that are affected by the ABI
change. I don't claim that changing the soname is a magic fix, but I do
think that the problems caused by an soname change are all bugs that need to
be confronted (in general), rather than just being accepted and worked
around.

Cheers,

What else is different about your system?

Bug#350214: support type_evdev, add support for devices

I have a look at it last week. It is an ocaml related problem. I will
reassign the bug next week to ocaml.

If it's as simple as a rebuild, then just requeue kdepim for rebuilding.

yes, you're correct. i don't know mkinitrd, but i can imagine, that it
loads only aes, as this is the default cypher for cryptsetup.

does it work when you add sha256 to /etc/mkinitrd/modules before
creating the initrd?

if this is the problem, the documentation should be updated.

Bug#84930: mc disables ^S/^Q flow.

2006-01-27 Thread Robert de Bath

Okay,
I've just downloaded the source for mc version 4.6.1.

The problem is in the SLang_init_tty() function, basically it forces the
application (mc) to decide if XON/XOFF flow control should be on.
The application has no way of knowing this.

(NB I said RTS/CTS in my last mail that should have been XON/XOFF)

The problem line is:

   if (no_flow_control) newtty.c_iflag &= ~IXON; else newtty.c_iflag |= IXON;

There needs to be a way of telling the init routine that you want to
leave the IXON setting the way that the user set it in her .profile,
perhaps the line could be put inside a:

  if (no_flow_control>=0) {
 ...
  }

or perhaps it'd be best to have the line as:

   if (no_flow_control) newtty.c_iflag &= ~IXON;

That way the second argument to SLang_init_tty() could be zero for normal
use and only set to one for programs that do silly things like using ^S
for search.

I suppose this now means that the bug is shared between mc and slang :-)

Wrong, it's mc that clears the "stty crtscts" flag. It has no business
doing that. Screen OTOH knows that it shouldn't clear the flag even if
the program in it's faked terminal does so.

Could you try the UTF-8 mc is uploaded to experimental ? It's based on
libslang2, so the bug could be fixed in that library...

The script can be improved by using the "-f" switch, which makes urxvtd
only fork _after_ creating the listening socket, i.e.:

  if ! urxvtc "$@" ; then
urxvtd -f
exec urxvtc "$@"
  fi

This will get rid of the sleep (which is likely the only annoying aspect
of the script operation).

On older versions of urxvtd, there was a faq entry to basically reach the
same goal without this switch.

Bug#350208: sshd can't keep track of which DISPLAYs are in use

2006-01-27 Thread Terran Melconian
Package: ssh
Version: 3.8.1p1-8.sarge.4

When connecting to sshd, it appears that sshd fails to keep track of
which displays are already in use, and reassigns these to new
connections even though they are not actually available. When I SSH
into the machine, the first connection is given display
machinename:10. Then the second concurrent connection is also given
machinename:10. So is the third. This is obviously undesirable and
does not work very well.

I experience this problem only when X11UseLocalhost is set to "no";
when it is set to "yes", sshd is apparently able to keep track of
which displays are in use.

I did not have this problem with 3.4; this is new since I upgraded.

He is told he needs to edit his preferences to permit this, and given a button.

It turns out instead he needs to edit about:config, and set

And indeed when he finally does, installation fails as it is an
invalid file or something.

One would be much more confident if there were a debian sage package.
