Bug#455768: paketto status?
The problem is that there's really no other library I know of that gives me such straightforward rapid packet parsing and transmission, at both layer 2 and layer 3, except maybe for libdnet (as far as I know). Have things gotten any better in the intervening years? Paul Wise wrote: On Tue, 2009-02-17 at 15:06 -0800, Dan Kaminsky wrote: It means I would rather write Paketto 3.0 than see this dropped :) Great! Is it OK if I schedule this work for late march, early april? There is currently an RC bug open about the libnet0 issue: http://bugs.debian.org/455768 In addition it will soon be removed from testing/squeeze: http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2009/02/msg00502.html ASAP would be preferred, I don't know how long it will be in sid with an RC bug for before QA people decide to remove it from the archive. In addition the Debian maintainer has not worked on the package since 2007 despite a number of easy to fix bugs being filed, so you might want to take over maintenance of the Debian package too. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#515898: amide: Please reenable NIfTI support via libniftiio
Package: amide Version: 0.9.1-3 Severity: wishlist Hi, is it possible to reenable NIfTI support via libniftiio instead of via xmedcon? That used to be the behavior prior to 0.9.1-2, but got disabled to fix #460358. However, libniftiio1-dev simply got renamed to libnifti1-dev. Bug#515896: Disfavor dieing (already fixed upstream)
Package: scowl Version: 6-2.3 The normal -ing form of to die (to perish) is dying. Related to the less common noun die meaning a metal forming tool there's a verb to die meaning to cut or shape with a die, and the -ing form of this is dieing. This correct form of dieing is quite rare and specialized, though Google finds a few real examples, like US patent 4,343,097 and the 1910 Constitution of the United Brotherhood of Leather Workers on Horse Goods. However dieing occurs much more often as a misspelling of dying or dyeing, so it should probably not appear in a general spell-checking wordlist. It's not in my desk dictionary or any of Alan Beale's 12dicts. In the Debian 6-2.3 scowl package, dieing appears at level 35, and so makes it into all sizes of wamerican. (I noticed this bug when a spell-checker failed to catch dieing.) However, when I check out the latest version of the SCOWL upstream SVN repository (r93) and build it, dieing comes out at level 80, which seems much more appropriate. It wasn't immediately obvious to me what change relative to the Debian version fixed this, or what source file controls it. I would be perfectly happy with a Debian package that reflected the fixed upstream decision, so likely the only action required is to verify that this is fixed whenever upstream changes are next incorporated. -- Stephen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#284044: updated cross-build support for attr
Fixes were made to the attr package after this bug was initially filed. Can the current package (2.4.42) be verified to still have cross-compilation issues or can this be closed/rejected? attr still needs changes to be cross-built. Current version in Emdebian Crush: 1:2.4.41-1 The remaining changes are in debian/rules and require updating libtool as well as implementing the standard fix recommended by autotools-dev for --build and --host. Bug#477233: linux-image-2.6.26-1-amd64: Got *my* problem solved meanwhile
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-amd64 Followup-For: Bug #477233 Meanwhile I got the problem fixed on my machine. I still don't understand why, because the final steps to solve it are the same I tried out already before filing my other response, but then without solving it. The problem on my machine occured after an upgrade from Etch to Lenny, so after changing the kernel from 2.6.18-6-amd64 to 2.6.26-1-amd64. The impact was, that even with all the good looking stuff in /proc/asound I couldn't hear anything from the speakers. Today I tried again, running alsaconf in a terminal window. First all other sound apps were killed, then alsaconf detected an ICH6 sound card and configured it. At the end of the configuration I heard at least a click from the speakers. Executing playsound with a Wave file (e.g. from gnome-audio packet) then played the sound. Restarting KDEs sound system then also was able to play the KDE sounds and finally this also survives a complete reboot cycle. So I guess my problem is solved, but since I already tried out alsaconfig once without luck I'm still wondering what was different this time. Thanks for your attention. Bug#407722: Where does git-core-dev sit?
On Tue, Feb 17, 2009 at 02:51:17PM -0800, Marc Oscar Singer wrote: Even though there is a report here that closes the bug, the package isn't available. It's been available for a very short time, look for git-core-dev in /usr/share/doc/git-core/changelog.Debian.gz Is it likely that we'll see anything here ever? In other words, I have a package that depends on libgit that downloads git as part of the build--probably not an acceptable build methodology. Am I going to have an option to build it using libgit from git-core? It depends on upstream. Back then, Junio asked to not provide such a library package in Debian, and I respect that. There've been some plans and effort to stabilize the lib in the past, but I'm not sure about the status. Rafael Belmonte schreef: Kmess 1.5 is the current stable version of kmess, and built in KDE3, kmess2 is the current development version of kmess and built in KDE4, it is not stable yet, but it provides functional svn snapshots regularly. I am not sure if kmess and kmess2 packages should be at the same time in the archive until kmess2 is not stable. What do you think? I've CC'd two of the KMess developers I know, Diederik and Valerio. There's a pro and a con for adding KMess2 to the repositories: - pro: KMess 1.5 is a very old and much less featured version of KMess. - con: It's still even in alpha. I'm not sure but I think I remember some very old packages being replaced by newer versions, which were not declared stable. In any case, I think it would be best to have a version of KMess 1.5 in the repositories (http://kmess.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/kmess/tags/kmess/kmess-1.5.2), and the latest tag of KMess 2 (that's kmess-2.0alpha2). If no maintainers can be found, I'll opt to be a maintainer for KMess, it'd be a good learning path for me and I do have a little coding experience with the program (I added a little feature, heh.) If there's any Debian policy I missed on this, please let me know. Sjors -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#515905: gdm starts with the wrong keymap
Package: gdm Version: 2.20.7-5 Severity: important Hi, Since lenny was released and I upgraded my system with the new sid packages, I face an important bug in GDM. At system startup, gdm is launched with a qwerty keymap. But the only locale installed on my system is fr_FR.UTF-8 and Xorg is configured to use fr as the default keymap. A few details: - apart from the keymap, the rest of the interface is correctly localized, so it seems to be more a problem of the weird things done with setxkbmap in /etc/gdm/Init/Default than a problem of locale. - by default, the selected locale is last locale used. If I select either French or System default, the keymap is changed to fr immediately. Even if I select last language used once again beyond this point, the keymap remains in fr. - if do not touch the locale selection menu and login using the qwerty keymap, the keymap is then correctly set to fr in my session. Moreover, in both cases, when I logout, the keymap stays in fr. Well, this is annoying but I'm describing an easy workaround, so why tagging this as important? Because this bug does indeed render the system unusable for some users. Namely, when: - gdm is configured with a login browser, - the user chooses its login name by clicking on it, - then its password is rejected. In that (real-life) example, the user has no clue what's going on (remember, the interface is still in French). And gdm with a login browser in designed for such (possibly unexperienced) users who will then be locked out of the system. So please, fix this bug to save my grand-mother ;-) Regards, Gabriel Kerneis -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-1-amd64 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages gdm depends on: ii adduser3.110 add and remove users and groups ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.24Debian configuration management sy ii gksu 2.0.0-8 graphical frontend to su ii gnome-session [x-sessi 2.22.3-2 The GNOME 2 Session Manager ii gnome-terminal [x-term 2.22.3-3 The GNOME 2 terminal emulator appl ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.20-2 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-01.22.0-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libattr1 1:2.4.43-2Extended attribute shared library ii libc6 2.7-18GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.8.6-2 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdbus-1-31.2.12-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.80-3simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdmx11:1.0.2-3 X11 Distributed Multihead extensio ii libfontconfig1 2.6.0-3 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.3.7-2 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libglade2-01:2.6.3-1 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.18.4-2 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnomecanvas2-0 2.20.1.1-1A powerful object-oriented display ii libgtk2.0-02.12.12-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libpam-modules 1.0.1-5 Pluggable Authentication Modules f ii libpam-runtime 1.0.1-5 Runtime support for the PAM librar ii libpam0g 1.0.1-5 Pluggable Authentication Modules l ii libpango1.0-0 1.22.4-2 Layout and rendering of internatio ii librsvg2-2 2.22.2-4 SAX-based renderer library for SVG ii librsvg2-common2.22.2-4 SAX-based renderer library for SVG ii libselinux12.0.65-5 SELinux shared libraries ii libwrap0 7.6.q-16 Wietse Venema's TCP wrappers libra ii libx11-6 2:1.1.5-2 X11 client-side library ii libxau61:1.0.4-2 X11 authorisation library ii libxdmcp6 1:1.0.2-3 X11 Display Manager Control Protoc ii libxext6 2:1.0.4-1 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxi6 2:1.2.0-2 X11 Input extension library ii libxinerama1 2:1.0.3-2 X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxml22.6.32.dfsg-5 GNOME XML library ii lsb-base 3.2-20Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii metacity [x-window-man 1:2.22.0-2A lightweight GTK2 based Window Ma ii twm [x-window-manager] 1:1.0.4-2 Tab window manager ii xterm [x-terminal-emul 241-1 X terminal emulator ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-12 compression library - runtime Versions of packages gdm

As I did downgrade to the stable xorg to have a working system I had to upgrade again to test the above. Unfortunately it is indeed untrue. I did not only commenting out the InputDevice line in the ServerLayout I did also commenting out the whole Trackpoint section. The result is (xsetpointer -l): 0: Virtual core keyboard [XKeyboard] 1: Virtual core pointer [XPointer] 2: USB Maus [XExtensionPointer] 3: Synaptics Touchpad [XExtensionPointer] 4: USB Maus [XExtensionPointer] 5: Generic Keyboard [XExtensionKeyboard] You probably did not remove enough input device section, there are still too many input devices above, I know that and that is exactly the Bug. There was only ONE Pointer device configured for the output above. You *really* need to remove the ones that have conflicting /dev/input/foobar device or so (with mice conflicting with /dev/psaux and /dev/input/mouse*). I heard that and I did for the test. But it doesn't work. X just detects two USD mouses where only one is configured. That is a wrong behaviour. We had dozens of bugs like this, all of them got fixed by fixing the config file. So I am just closing this bug. Please don't. The bug still persists and hold me from upgrading to the newest X server. Also you didn't address the problem with the '|' char ('alt gr'+''). Bug#512111: iceweasel: Iceweasel disable Firefox upgrade checks

I've also also seen that useful to fix browser detection (hotmail) or support binary extensions (probably to avoid stdlibc++ 5/6 discrepancies). Anyway, when Iceweasel is started, it silently disables the security update checks in the configuration. about:config reports that 'app.update.enabled' is set to false. This is set on startup. This is a problem, because as I mentioned people may use, concurrently or later, an official version of Firefox. In this case, Firefox will disable security update checks as directed, and thus Firefox won't be upgraded when there's a security fix. People may work several months without being notified about a security hole in their Firefox. The fact Iceweasel disables upsteam security update checks is normal, because Debian (not upstream) provides those. However it's a mistake to disable that in the configuration, because this impacts other versions of Firefox that do use those checks. So please don't alter 'app.update.enabled' and other settings, and disable Iceweasel upstream security updates checks using another method (e.g. by not compiling the related code, or by not using ~/.mozilla/firefox to store the iceweasel configuration). Are you sure that when running firefox again, the config value doesn't go back to true ? Because these are global configurations that are not stored in user profile unless you modify them... So while running iceweasel would disable app.update.enabled, running firefox should re-enable it. Try resetting the config item (right-click - reset, iirc) and try switching between iceweasel and firefox. Here're a few tests: - open Firefox - witness app.update.enable == false (bold, state=Defined by user) - double click app.update.enable to switch it to true (normal, state=by default) - close Firefox - open Iceweasel - witness app.update.enable == false (italic, status=locked) - double click doesn't change a thing - close Iceweasel - open Firefox - witness app.update.enable is back to false (bold, state=Defined by user) - set app.update.enable to true again - close Firefox - open Firefox - witness app.update.enable == true (normal, state=by default) - it doesn't revert to false by default, so it's well a Iceweasel behavior - close Firefox - open Iceweasel - close Iceweasel without messing with the config - open Firefox - witness app.update.enable is false (bold, state=Defined by user) - so it's a startup Iceweasel behavior, nothing manual involved Thus I'm pretty sure the config value doesn't get back to true. If this is a global configuration, then possibly non-default global configuration gets merged with the user configuration? Hi, Any news about this? Also: I suggest setting it back to severity=grave. Mistakingly disabling 3rd-party software updates is harming security. I just noticed that Moritz had downgraded the severity without explaining why. -- Sylvain -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Two things happened: - 1.0.19-24 was misbuilt without Avahi support - it looks like a fix/change was made in Avahi triggering this deadlock. Whereas it was necessary on SMP to lock the Avahi thread before stopping it, it looks like it's not necessary anymore. That would actually bring the behaviour back in line with the Avahi sample code. Package: libldap-2.4-2 Version: 2.4.11-1 Severity: important File: libldap Hi, I ran in this problem with the upgrade from sarge to lenny. At first I thought it was an issue related to GnuTLS (like bug #514578), but the error message I get in the debug mode seem to point out towards libldap. When attempting to connect to a slapd server using TLS, with the URI containing an IP adress, the connection fails. It seems that ibpam-ldap and libnss-ldap are also affected. Bug#515796: acpi-support: videobtn.sh: optionally run a graphical UI to RandR
Hi, intrig...@boum.org wrote: Bart Samwel wrote (17 Feb 2009 19:33:49 GMT) : It's a nice suggestion, but this one I can't accept. The problem is that acpi-support isn't supposed to do this kind of thing. It simply translates the hardware key press into a virtual button, and the user's desktop environment (which can basically be *anything* in Debian) is supposed to handle the key and respond. So the proper way to do this, is to convince somebody in the desktop environments game to add a handler for this hotkey, just like there are handlers for video brightness buttons, sound and even for things like suspending. Oh. Since acpi-support already handled locking screen with xscreensaver, KDE and al, I thought this was the right place to implement such a behaviour. Anyway, I guess you're the one who knows better. It's not so strange that you assumed that. The acpi-support package has two major components which are going to be split into separate packages eventually: 1. Hotkey translation 2. Suspend The xscreensaver etc. stuff is part of (2), which does a lot of work. Your script is part of (1), which should really be as simple as possible. Of course you can change it to do what you want, all the scripts are config files. But the design of the package is simply that it translates hardware specific hotkeys into generic ones -- nothing more, nothing less. :-) Cheers, Bart -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#495036: laptop-mode-tools Not Hooked into pm-utils
Leo L. Schwab wrote: On Tue, Feb 17, 2009 at 08:46:21AM +0100, Bart Samwel wrote: Thanks for reporting. In fact, laptop-mode-tools *does* hook into pm-utils, this was added in version 1.47-1. But it doesn't do this in /etc/pm/power.d, but in the system folder for hooks (I think it's /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d). ^^^ Yes, in fact, I had noticed this some weeks ago. However, the solution there is incomplete. Scripts in sleep.d are invoked when the system transitions into/out of suspend-to-RAM or suspend-to-disk and, in fact, the scripts there work perfectly for me. However, power state changes -- plugging and unplugging the AC adapter -- are not handled through sleep.d (since the system isn't sleeping), but rather through power.d. This was the support I added. Hmmm, are you saying that you aren't running acpid? Because laptop-mode-tools is supposed to be triggered by acpid scripts. I expect that there is a dependency on acpid, even... Bug#489857: clunky workaround
A workaround that I've just implemented and works fairly well, despite being a little clunky is as follows: in /etc/hosts set an alias for each of the repositories you reference in sources.list such that they all resolve to the debtorrent-client demon e.g. 127.0.0.1localhost ftp.uk.debian.org.debtorrent www.debian-multimedia.org.debtorrent [etc.] then modify /etc/apt/sources accordingly e.g. deb debtorrent://localhost/ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ lenny main becomes deb debtorrent://ftp.uk.debian.org.debtorrent/ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ lenny main and then apt-cache policy will report the hostname ftp.uk.debian.org.debtorrent rather than localhost Cheers God bless Sam SammyTheSnake Penny -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#506122: postgrey: Postgrey port number changes without warning on upgrade
Well, well, well. I am certainly not used to debian packages breaking my systems without a warning. In this case I realized something was wrong only after users started to complain that they were not receiving any mail from outside. After that it was not difficult to find hte cause of the error and correct it. I consider this a serious flaw. There definitely should be some kind of a warning that springs to the eye if a package is probable to stop acting the way it's supposed to. How about a debconf warning *without* a grep? If you don't know how to accomplish this. Just letting mailservers die and waiting for people to notice is not very admin-friendly :-/ Otherwise, thanks for the package. It is an awfully useful piece of software that reliably keeps away at least 95% of our spam. Martin, could you please try again with the latest Sid version (1.0.8-4, just uploaded)? In particular I'd like you to: - Test whether the problem still exists. - Check in strace whether there are still EBADFs. - Re-run acpid with debug enabled and get the error log from stderr. The strace suggests that acpid is trying to write to stderr quite a lot, but none of this writes succeedsfor obvious reasons. Mabye the tell us more about what's going on. Thanks. Bug#515916: is secure-apt used in really ALL places?
Package: aptitude Version: 0.4.11.11-1 Severity: normal Hi. Aptitude uses secure-apt in most places (at least as far as I know), for example: Retrieving and installing/upgrading packages. But is secure-apt really used in ALL places? For example, what about doing an aptitude download or what about build-depends, build-dep? E.g. a user could do aptitude download foo dpkg -i foodeb and would end up with an insecurely retrieved package. Or even other places like changelogs and so on. Bug#515850: RFP: mjpegtools - MJPEG video capture/editting/playback MPEG encoding
Reinhard Tartler schrieb: One can now argue what commercial implementation actually means. I'm still waiting for ftp-master to comment on this, but AFAIUI, I don't see why debian wouldn't be able to ship the binaries of mjpegtools, lame and similar free software in non-free. [...] ftp-master, can you please comment on adding this kind software to non-free? We also attempted to wait for a statement from ftp-master about the iclusion of the h261 encoder in the ffmpeg packages. IIRC in the end we simply pushed it in the NEW queue and it got accepted -- without an explicit statement from ftp-master. Maybe we should proceed just like this with mjpegtools, i.e. prepare packages and upload them. If they get rejected we'll know why. If not, even better... ;) -- Dipl.-Phys.
