If you are seeking for a sponsor it is a clever idea to post the
URL to your *.dsc file to enable others to evaluate your work. ;-)

I believe that Debian Science would be a proper place for it.

Did you asked for an alioth account which might be added to
debian-science team. Once this is done you are able to commit

to the URL of the *.dsc file.

Kind regards and thanks for your work on eprover

Could you please be a little bit more verbose. I had the (maybe wrong)

Bug#468896: [PATCH] ifplugd: honor allow-ifplugd interfaces(5) class via ifplugd.agent

2009-02-24 Thread Y Giridhar Appaji Nag
On 09/02/18 05:53 +1000, Kel Modderman said ...
ifplugd.init might be problematic in its proposed form. The initscript
should only do with allow-ifplugd interfaces what it does for
HOTPLUG_INTERFACES. The maintainer scripts would have to in order to
manage changes to the debconf questions though ... and integrating this
 feature starts to become messy.

I did not understand this bit, can you please explain?

+# Invent an allow-ifplugd interfaces class
  +ALLOW_INTERFACES=$(sed -n -e s/^allow-${DAEMON_NAME}[[:space:]]\+//p \
  +/etc/network/interfaces 2/dev/null || true)
  +
+# Append allow-ifplugd interfaces to statically listed interface list
  +INTERFACES=$INTERFACES $ALLOW_INTERFACES

^^ they should be treated as hotplug interfaces, not statically managed ones.

Again, but why is that so?

Apologies in case I am missing something obvious here.

2009-02-24 Thread Peter Makholm
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the slashem package.

The package description is:
Super Lotsa Added Stuff Hack - Extended Magic (SLASH'EM)
is a role-playing game where you control a single character. The
interface and gameplay are similar in style to Rogue, ADOM, Angband
and, of course, Nethack. You control the actions through the
keyboard and view the world from an overhead perspective.

It has a somehow complicated build system, building the package multiple times
with different build options to make multiple frontends. Upstream is kind of
sleeping since december 2006.

I think there is a handful of nethack's variants in the archive. They might be
enough alike that some common packaging-team might be an idea, but I havn't the
time to participate.

Bug#516388: proftpd: Several SQL injection vulnerabilities

Since I am the culprit that reported the second bug (CVE-2009-0542), I can
confirm it affects debian's proftpd packages in testing/unstable
repositories. That's because I discovered it on my debian system.

My proftpd version is 1.3.1-16.

According to the ProFTPD team, the bug is fixed in 1.3.2 rc3 (1.3.2 is not
vulnerable, 1.3.2 rc1 and rc2 are vulnerable), so upgrading to 1.3.2 should
fix the issue.

Hi,

I've read another report (#516866) where rerunning alsaconf resolved

As an alternative just create a new ticket on http://trac.pykota.com,

they all have a green tint and some visual artifacts during playback.

What player is that?

Downgrading to version 0.svn20080206-17 solves the problem.

Did you also make sure that your player actually links against that

I've attached a picture to show the bug.

can you reproduce with using 'ffplay' from the ffmpeg package? also,

Bug#516889: gettext: syntax error if comments are reordered

2009-02-24 Thread Jens Seidel
Package: gettext
Version: 0.17-4

Hi,

I noticed that msgmerge is very picky about the order of comments in PO
files.

$ cat test.po
msgid
msgstr
Project-Id-Version: test\n
PO-Revision-Date: 2009-02-23 23:21+0100\n
Last-Translator: j...@localhost\n
Language-Team: German j...@localhost\n
MIME-Version: 1.0\n
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8\n
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n

#| msgid File not found :-)
#: test.cc:1
#, c-format
msgid File not found
msgstr Datei nicht gefunden

$ msgfmt -cv test.po
test.po:13:1: syntax error
msgfmt: found 1 fatal error

Reordering the comments to
#: test.cc:1
#, c-format
#| msgid File not found :-)
fixes this problem.

You may ask why I used a PO file with such an ordering, right? The reason
is that I have also access to gettext version 0.15 (doesn't support
--previous option of msgmerge) and with this version I get:
$ sed 's/test.cc:1/test.cc:2/' test.po  test-new.po
$ msgmerge -U test-new.po test.po

Comments look now:
# | msgid File not found :-)
#: test.cc:1
#, c-format

I now substituted # | by #| because I don't want to commit a PO file
with unwanted # | comments and get an invalid file ...
Nevertheless gettext 0.15 doesn't report errors so I committed a bogus
file.

PS: Just in case you wonder why I call msgmerge to update a file against
itself: I found that this improves line breaks (the result of msgmerge
and xgettext is very different in this regard!!) and leads to smaller diffs
for version control systems. This is probably worth a separate bug report.

Jens

But you know the Bugs already? Currently 3 in 8 hours.

Bugs are discovered by using NOT by waiting.

Or is it your attitude that other persons should debug
the software for you?

If you had a look into the bash mailing list
you would have noticed that I already supplied

Actually, t shouldn't. The message should be removed because since
0.6.22 svn-buildpackage no longer uses that file as a broken cache (see
 0.6.22 changelog entry).

Instead that file is left as a possible local and non-versioned override
for the user to use, if necessary.

I read that changelog entry and I'm confused about what to do :)
Should I use --svn-savecfg to let svn-bp save the configuration, if
needed? is put that option in ~/.svn-buildpackage.conf encouraged or
 not?

If you really need to, you can save your configuration, but that
configuration will *override* anything else set in the repo (e.g. if
another memeber of the packaging team does some changes, you will not
see them).

Since the layout of the package shouldn't change, you'd probably prefer
to use svn properties to store that information.

OTOH, that layout detection is indeed slow and needs improvement, as
suggested in #515531.

Unfortunately, I find myself having less and less time for
svn-buildpackage, so I don't know when those changes will happen.

The last Debian release to support sparc32 was Etch, but even then only
for sun4m systems. Support for the other 32-bits subarchitectures had
already been discontinued after earlier releases.

So there's a contradiction. I suppose a revision of that page wouldn't be

  p
These pages are meant to assist users and Debian developers running
Debian GNU/Linux on the SPARC architecture. In these pages, you will
find information about the current status, currently known problems,
information for and about Debian porters, and pointers to more
information.

h2 id=statusCurrent Status/h2
  p
Debian SPARC is officially released and known to be stable. Supported
are Sun4m and Sun4u machines (with a 32-bit userland). See
the a href=../../releases/stable/sparc/Install Manual/a
for information on supported systems, hardware, and how to install
Debian.

h2 id=sparc64bitAbout 64-bit SPARC support/h2
  p
The Debian SPARC port,
as mentioned above, does support the sun4u (ldquo;Ultrardquo;) architecture.
It uses a 64-bit kernel (compiled with gcc 3.3 or newer), but most of the
applications run in 32-bit. This is also called a ldquo;32-bit
userlandrdquo;.
  p
The Debian SPARC 64 (a.k.a., ldquo;UltraLinuxrdquo;) porting effort is not
currently conceived as a full porting effort like other ports.
Rather, it is intended to be an emadd-on/em to the SPARC Port.
  p
In fact, there is really no point in having all applications running
in 64-bit mode. Full 64-bit mode involves a significant overhead
(memory and disk size) with often no benefit. Some applications
really can benefit from being in 64-bit mode, and that is the purpose
of this porting effort.

h3 id=kernelsun4uCompiling kernels for sun4u/h3
  p
To compile a Linux kernel for Sun4u, you'll need to use the Linux 2.2
or newer source tree.
  p
We highly suggest you also use the ttkernel-package/tt package to
help with the installation and management of kernels. You can compile
a configured kernel in one command (as root):
pre
  make-kpkg --subarch=sun4u --arch_in_name --revision=custom.1 kernel_image
/pre

h2 id=errataErrata/h2
  p
Some of the common problems with fixes or workarounds can be found on our
a href=problemsErrata page/a.

h2 id=whoWho are we? How can I help?/h2
  p
The Debian SPARC port is a distributed effort, just as Debian is.
Countless people have helped with the porting and documentation
efforts, although a short list of a href=creditscredits/a are
available.
  p
If you'd like to help, please
join in the lt;debian-sp...@lists.debian.orggt; mailing list as
a href=#linksdescribed below/a, and chime in.
  p
Registered developers who would like to actively port and upload
ported packages should read the porter guidelines in the a href=$(DOC)/developers-reference/Developers
Reference/a, and see the a href=portingSPARC porting page/a.

h2 id=linksWhere can I find out more information?/h2
  p
The best place to ask Debian-specific questions about the SPARC port
is on the mailing list, a href=http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/;\

Bug#516890: xserver-xorg-video-ati: Black screen, work-around is forcing radeon driver

2009-02-24 Thread Sylvain Beucler
Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Version: 1:6.9.0-1+lenny4
Severity: normal

On a Radeon HD 3430, the screen goes black went starting X.
By specifying:

  Section Device
Identifier Configured Video Device
Driver radeon
  EndSection

the problem goes away.
I guess it uses radeonhd by default.

Interestingly enough, the Lenny Live CD from last december worked fine directly.

the fix is to use regexpObj.search() instead of regexpObj.match(), as the

This is actually intentional. I don't want to match it on random Closes:

gives you the closes in the commit message then.
Am I missing a usage case?

Bug#516893: ocfs2-tools: Unmounting an OCFS2 filesystem causes a segfault before cleaning the heartbeat region

2009-02-24 Thread DEBIAN-BUGS
Package: ocfs2-tools
Version: 1.4.1-1
Severity: important

When unmounting an OCFS2 filesystem, unmount completes but ocfs2_hb_ctl
segfaults before stopping the heartbeat
which causes a situation that the OCFS2 cluster cannot be stopped before
rebooting.

Steps to reproduce this situation:

1. Boot the system.
2. Test the /etc/init.d/ocfs2 and /etc/init.d/o2cb scripts by starting and
stopping them. They stop successfully.
This is what happens when an OCFS2 filesystem has not been mounted since the
system has been booted up:

server3:~# /etc/init.d/ocfs2 stop
Stopping Oracle Cluster File System (OCFS2) OK

server3:~# /etc/init.d/o2cb stop
Stopping O2CB cluster ocfs2-www: OK
Unmounting ocfs2_dlmfs filesystem: OK
Unloading module ocfs2_dlmfs: OK
Unloading module ocfs2_stack_o2cb: OK
Unmounting configfs filesystem: OK
Unloading module configfs: OK

3. Start both ocfs2 and o2cb again and mount an OCFS2 filesystem.

server3:~# mount /usr/ocfs2

While the filesystem is unmounted correctly, the heartbeat could not be
stopped. So trying to stop the cluster fails.

Stopping Oracle Cluster File System (OCFS2) OK

server3:~# /etc/init.d/o2cb stop

As heartbeat could not be stopped, when the server is rebooted, other nodes
print error messages until the server is up.
An example is below:

Feb 24 11:26:49 server4 kernel: [119051.392388] o2net: connection to node

(3802,4):o2net_connect_expired:1629 ERROR: no connection established with node
2 after 10.0 seconds, giving up and returning errors.

I think the problem is in libc-2.7.so, because I see similar segfaulting when I
stop multipath daemon too (which prints
a similar message including libc-2.7.so) In any case, ocfs2 operation has
problems on lenny.

Bug#516556: debconf doesn't configure smtp_ssl

2009-02-24 Thread Francois Marier
Hi Giuseppe,

Thanks for letting me know about this, I don't use SSL, but I left
Net::SMTP::SSL installed so I never noticed this problem.

Here's my fix for the error, can you confirm that it works for you too:

http://gitorious.org/projects/email-reminder/repos/mainline/commits/9f9fc68cfa7a168513a0547a229958a70fd9cf0b

(basically putting the use Net::SMTP::SSL inside an eval)

I'll look into making a new release soon. I guess it would be useful to put
the SSL option inside debconf as well.

Cheers,
Francois

Hi,

I plan to upload this package. Whilst upstream produce a .deb, a
cursory look did not reveal the location to their source package.

The release tarball also contains '.svn' directories, which is
rather unfortunate.

I hope to remedy both issues before uploading.

 By specifying:

 the problem goes away.
I guess it uses radeonhd by default.

Why do you open a bug report against ati if you think radeonhd is used?
ati only contains radeon, radeonhd is a different package.

Please remove the above Driver radeon in the config and send the
corresponding log.
If the log confirms that radeonhd is loaded, please try the 1.2.4

Bug#516895: gettext: wrong parameter handling?

2009-02-24 Thread Jens Seidel
Package: gettext
Version: 0.17
Severity: minor

Hi,

I have the following C++ source file:

$ cat test.cc
#include iostream

#define _(text) text

int main()
{
  std::cout  _(Hi, this is a string)  \n;
  return 0;
}

The paramater handling of option -k causes some problems for me:

According to xgettext --help:

-k, --keyword[=WORD]additional keyword to be looked for (without
WORD means not to use default keywords)

$ xgettext -k=_ -o test.po test.cc; cat test.po
cat: test.po: No such file or directory

Using
$ xgettext --keyword=_ -o test.po test.cc
a proper PO file is created as _ is recognized as keyword.

Now I wonder, does the short option -k accept parameters or not?
If not shouldn't it complain about =_?

I also tried
$ xgettext -k _ -o test.po test.cc; cat test.po
xgettext: xgettext cannot work without keywords to look for

I haven't looked at the source but I think GNU command line parsing
supports also options to short params. See e.g. the examples

 % testopt -c foo
 aflag = 0, bflag = 0, cvalue = foo

 % testopt -cfoo
 aflag = 0, bflag = 0, cvalue = foo

in
http://www.gnu.org/software/libtool/manual/libc/Example-of-Getopt.html#Example-of-Getopt

Yep, it is only a minor issue but it took me 5 minutes until I found that
I have to use the long form of the option. I played with --c++ and further
options first because I assumed another option was missing.

Jens

Bug#516876: add a way to ignore unfulfilled build-dependencies (a la dpkg-buildpackage -d)

Using --git-builder=/bin/true should do the trick?

No, I don't want to change my git builder, it is already configured as
a wrapper script which invokes cowbuilder.

I really want to ask git-buildpackage to ignore the build-dependency
check, because I know I'm building elsewhere where build-deps will be
satisfied (a cowbuilder chroot).

Cheers.

Hi Delport,

Thank you for the bug report and the patch.

On 09/02/19 16:37 +0200, J.P. Delport said ...
I think that adding another regular expression to match the output of
file for XML files could be appropriate, e.g. in istextfile:

 xml_re = re.compile('\\bXML\\b')

and then test for all 3 options:

 return bool(text_re.search(stdout) or empty_re.match(stdout) or
 xml_re.search(stdout))

Fixed in SVN r12486, the fix will be available with the next upload to
the archive.

strives to be simple and comprehensible. It is particularly
interesting to people who want to (a) try Scheme without having to
jump through too many hoops (S9fES is very portable); or (b) study
the implementation of Scheme (in a language other than Scheme). A
free online textbook describing the system is also available.

dh_install have a different behavior in v7.

  * dh_install: In v7 mode, if --sourcedir is not specified, first look for
files in debian/tmp, and then will look in the current directory. This
allows dh_install to interoperate with dh_auto_install without needing any
special parameters.

when you backport to v6 or v5, add a debian/tmp/ prefix to every
line in debian/*.install or change dh_install to dh_install
--sourcedir=debian/tmp

you can commit this change to git.

Bug#515635: lmodern: No old-style figures in LMTypewriter10.

2009-02-24 Thread T
Hi H., hi Ralf,

I think you are right and there is no bug in the lmodern package.
Fontforge (a tool that I did not know of) shows the old-style figures
fine. It also shows that the NUMoldstyle glyphs were removed in
between 1.00-3 and 1.010x-5, while the NUM.oldstyle glyphs are there
in both versions.

So my problem has to have its origins in some other place. I doubt
that it is gucharmap, since the problem also affects openoffice and
inkscape: When I try to insert oldstyle figures into an openoffice
text via Insert - Special Character and select the LMTypewriter10
font, oldstyle figures are not in the table of glyphs I can select
from. If I insert oldstyle figures using another font (e.g. Iwona) and
afterwards try to change the font of the inserted characters to
LMTypewriter10, the Iwona oldstyle figures are not replaced by
LMTypewriter glyphs; they stay Iwona glyphs (they become a bit smaller
though).

Similarly, if I copy some text containing oldstyle glyphs into an
inkscape document (using the Iwona font) and try to convert the font
to LMTypewriter10, the oldstyle figures are replaced by glyphs of yet
another font (could be Verdana).

With the 1.00-3 package of lmodern, the usage of oldstyle glyphs
within openoffice and inkscape is no problem.

Is there anything else I can do in order to find out where exactly the
problem is?

Thanks and best regards -- T.

Bug#516901: pycha: FTBFS with python-support in experimental

2009-02-24 Thread Josselin Mouette
Package: pycha
Version: 0.4.1-1

Hi,

The pycha rules file contains the following:
# Launch unittests
ifeq (,$(findstring nocheck,$(DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS)))
binary-post-install/python-pycha:: binary-post-install/%:

PYTHONPATH='debian/$(cdbs_curpkg)/usr/share/python-support/$(cdbs_curpkg)/' \
python tests/runner.py

# Importing the modules generates .pyc files, and dh_python (which
# normally cleans them) has already been run. Remove them manually.
find 'debian/$(cdbs_curpkg)' -name '*.py[co]' -print0 \
| xargs -0 rm -f --
endif

With the upcoming version of python-support (currently in experimental),
such statements will make the package FTBFS, since the files are now
moved to a different directory (/usr/share/pyshared).

I suggest to launch the unit tests before the call to dh_pysupport. As
there doesn’t seem to be a compelling reason to launch them using the
installed modules, you can just launch them from the sources directory
and the result will be the same.

As a general rule, please do not rely on the internals of python-support
in the packaging; this will avoid such issues in the future (although
hopefully there won’t be a need to change the paths any further).

Bug#516903: pyroman: generates incorrect package with python-support from experimental

2009-02-24 Thread Josselin Mouette
Package: pyroman
Version: 0.4.6-1

Hi,

the pyroman rules file contains the following:
install/pyroman::
dh_pysupport

This is a problem since dh_pysupport is run before the files are
actually installed to /usr/share/python-support/pyroman, which is done
by dh_install in the binary-install target. Currently this works since
dh_pysupport takes into account the empty directory
in /usr/share/python-support.

However, with the upcoming version of python-support (currently in
experimental), this will fail, since it expects to find files there so
that they can be listed and moved to /usr/share/pyshared.

I suggest to simply move the dh_pysupport call to after the dh_install
one:
binary-install/pyroman::
dh_pysupport

As a general rule, please do not rely on the internals of python-support

Ah, according to GNU getopt routines
(http://puszcza.gnu.org.ua/software/mailfromd/manual/html_node/getopt.html):

quote
Options may have arguments. The argument to a short option is supplied
immediately after the option character, or as the next word in command line.
E.g., if option ‘-f’ takes a mandatory argument, then it may be given either
as ‘-farg’ or as ‘-f arg’. The argument to a long option is either given
immediately after it and separated from the option name by an equals sign
(as ‘--file=arg’), or is given as the next word in the command line (e.g.
‘--file arg’).
If the option argument is optional, i.e. it may not necessarily be given,
then only the first form is allowed (i.e. either ‘-farg’ or ‘--file=arg’.
/quote

OK, this last sentence seems to confirm gettext's behaviour. I nevertheless
failed to find this in the current glibc documentation or somewhere on
www.gnu.org.

Let's close this bug?

The pysnmp-se rules file contains the following:
LIBDIR = $(PKGDIR)/usr/share/python-support/$(PKG)
binary-install/$(PKG)::
# libdir/pysnmp - libdir/v3/pysnmp
mv $(LIBDIR)/pysnmp $(LIBDIR)/v3
mkdir $(LIBDIR)/pysnmp
mv $(LIBDIR)/v3 $(LIBDIR)/pysnmp/

With the upcoming version of python-support (currently in experimental),
such statements will make the package FTBFS, since the files are now
moved to a different directory (/usr/share/pyshared).

I suggest to do this move before the dh_pysupport call, and from the
standard installation directory:

LIBDIR = $(PKGDIR)/usr/lib/`pyversions -d`/site-packages
install/$(PKG)::
mv $(LIBDIR)/pysnmp $(LIBDIR)/v3
…

As a general rule, please do not rely on the internals of python-support
in the packaging; this will avoid such issues in the future (although
hopefully there won’t be a need to change the paths any further).

Thanks,

Arg!

Sorry for the noise then. You can consider this bug closed.
Maybe I have to consider installing apt-listchanges...

Bug#499529: bluez 4.x status update

2009-02-24 Thread martin f krafft
also sprach Tyson Whitehead twhiteh...@gmail.com [2009.02.23.2236 +0100]:
Excellent. I assume the updated packages work for you now?

No. :(

I am putting the bug report back into Cc.

I don't think you are alone at all in your dislike of dbus. In
fact, I can't really claim to understand what difference netdev
made in this case, based on bluetooth.conf. I too am in the
 netdev group on my machine.

That was with 3.x packages, where the dbus configuration also gave
members of the netdev group permission to send those messages, so
once I added myself into that group, it worked.

http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-bluetooth/packages/bluez-utils/trunk/debian/bluetooth-dbus.conf?op=filerev=0sc=0

Unfortunately, your 4.x packages install a dbus policy file that
only relies on at_console, but there is no dependency or
recommendation for libpam-foreground, which seems to be required for
that to work.

Right now, I can start bluetooth-applet, but when I connect
a device, the applet prints to stderr:

  Agent registration failed: Rejected send message, 1 matched rules;
  type=method_call, sender=:1.104 (uid=1000 pid=23264
  comm=bluetooth-applet ) interface=org.bluez.Adapter
  member=RegisterAgent error name=(unset) requested_reply=0
  destination=org.bluez (uid=0 pid=21493
  comm=/usr/sbin/bluetoothd))

Indeed, installing libpam-foreground and adding

  session requiredpam_foreground.so

before pam_unix in /etc/pam.d/common-session, and logging in and out
on tty1 does make things work.

Unfortunately, that's not an acceptable migration path, nor do
I know a migration path that does not involve the use reconfiguring
PAM, which is really not good.

Maybe ConsoleKit is possible, but that's a heavy dependency -- I for
one do not appreciate all this newfangled permissions stuff (with
capital letters of all things!!!) just to be able to use bluetooth.
Also, I might want to use bluetooth on headless machines and thus
without software written over at freedesktop.org.

Instead, I suggest to investigate migrating the existing policy (or
at least the underlying concepts) and grant members of netdev the
rights to talk to bluetoothd.

Why it's the netdev group, I don't know. Maybe introducing
a bluetooth group would be better?

No, I don't want to change my git builder, it is already configured as

I meant to say --git-cleaner=/bin/true, sorry.

It's the build-dep check in the clean run that hits not the one in the

Ouch, that is a pain. I have a bug open since about 2 years on OOo
upstream about support for expert font sets (real small caps, old style,
etc).

The problem is that OOo and many others, probably fontconfig itself,
does not parse the style attributes the right way.

It is a pain.

Uhm, fix is a bold word :) Yeah, I guess it is a workaround, but not
a proper fix, because (if I understand it correctly) that would mean
that the actual cleaner is not invoked, right?

So, for example, that would mean that the git working copy wouldn't be
cleaned, which in turn can break exportation or other stuff like
that. Hence yes: thanks for the work-around but, if you don't mind,
the feature request stands.

Cheers.

Bug#516914: live-initramfs: should check if /var/log is writable before copying

2009-02-24 Thread Rene Mayrhofer
Package: live-initramfs

Severity: wishlist

Tags: patch
Justification: cosmetical

The attached patch just adds a check before trying to copy live.log to the
newly mounted root filesystem. When using the exposedroot skipunion options,
then /var/log may not be writable at this time, resulting in an error message
during bootup. The patch fixed this.

Thanks Luc, Martial,

Could I ask do you have gpsd installed?

No, it is not even installed.

I did a fresh KDE 4.2 install, on top of Lenny on a Dell L400 laptop
(Pentium III, only 128MB RAM). It did create the digikam4.db file after
scanning the tree. It´s size is about 5x the digikam3 file. Is that normal?

l...@mestreech:/home/filmpje/fotos$ ls -l --si digikam*
-rw-rw-r-- 1 filmpje users 677k feb 22 11:52 digikam3.db
-rw-rw-r-- 1 luc users 3,2M feb 24 14:06 digikam4.db

When I start it, it crashes when it builds the mainpage, so when I read
the subsequent messages in the splash screen, it crashes shortly
after displaying message 3 below:

1. Scan albums
2. Search for images in individual albums
3. Preparing main-page

Hope this helps!

I can crash digikam if my gpsd is running and isn't locked in.

If I stop gpsd `/etc/init.d/gpsd stop`

digikam starts fine.

Bug#516910: installation-reports: lenny multi-arch installer sets incorrect release

2009-02-24 Thread Ritesh Raj Sarraf
Package: installation-reports
Severity: important

I'll be skipping the Package-Specific Info section because this bug is
being filed from my laptop and not the server where the issue was seen.

I used the official Lenny Multi-arch netinst cd image and booted.
Installation went fine and just then I noticed that the installer
configures apt with the etch release. This then further breaks
everything. It downgrades a bunch of packages, removes rsyslogd (it
wasn't the default in etch), and then ultimately fails with some
dependency.

I had to manually chroot and change the release to lenny and then things
went okay. This is a major bug in the installer. If you agree, please
increase the severity.

Ritesh

Anyhow, maybe it worths if you update the manpage to mention that

Now please stop being rude! *I* have read the manpage and here is what's
 there:

--othermirror [deb http://xxx/xxx/ ./ | other deb lines... ]
The lines which is added to the sources.list,
delimited with | Like deb http://local/mirror stable main|deb
   file:/usr/local/mirror ./

The deb lines here are the ones that will appear at the
top of the sources.list inside the chroot. Be sure to
follow the syntax rules of sources.list(5). These
lines appear at the beginning of the constructed sources
file, so this is the place to list your local mirror
sites; apt will then use them in preference to the ones
   listed in --mirror .

Where in that text is written to use --override-config? Nowhere, and
 since the user could:

   --update
Updates the base.tgz for the specified distribution. Also,
by specifying the --override-config option, it is possible to install a new
apt-line using the
given options and settings in the configuration file for the
base.tgz.

For example, to switch the distribution of an existing base.tgz
to lenny, specify the --distribution lenny --override-config options to update.

and

   --othermirror [deb http://xxx/xxx/ ./ | other deb lines... ]
The lines which is added to the sources.list, delimited with |
Like deb http://local/mirror stable main|deb file:/usr/local/mirror ./

The deb lines here are the ones that will appear at the top
of the sources.list inside the chroot. Be sure to follow the syntax rules of
sources.list(5).
These lines appear at the beginning of the constructed sources
file, so this is the place to list your local mirror sites; apt will then use
them in preference
to the ones listed in --mirror .

   --distribution [distribution]
Specifies the distribution used. Currently the supported values
are sid etch lenny and experimental .

   --components [components]
Specifies the default distribution components to use. eg. main
contrib non-free. Default is main.

   --override-config
Specify to use different apt set up inside the chroot than it
was used for creating the base.tgz. Specify this when you want to do pbuilder
--update with a
  different distribution target set up.

--distribution , --components , --mirror , --othermirror options
are only valid when --override-config option is specified in --update target,
or when pbuilder
  --create is being called.

So they are, in both directions.

Bug#512934: installation-reports: no sound at all; worked in Etch, works with Knoppix

2009-02-24 Thread Seb

Hi,

| My only problem, but a very significant one, is that I have absolutely no
| sound.
| [...]
| My sound card is a very common (and oldish) SoundBlaster PCI 128.
| The correct kernel driver, snd_ens1371, is loaded (lsmod | grep snd).
| Sound does not work either when I select (via ~/.asoundrc) the
| motherboard's sound card.
|
| I've read another report (#516866) where rerunning alsaconf resolved the
| issue for the reporter. It would be interesting to know whether that
| also helps you.

I had not tried running alsaconf by hand before.

alsaconf finds three cards:
hda-intel nVidia Corporation MCP65 High Definition Audio (rev a1)
ens1371 Ensoniq 5880 AudioPCI (rev 02)
legacy Probe legacy ISA (non-PnP) chips

I don't know whether the legacy line is normal.

At the end it fails with:
amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such device
It doesn't actually say it failed, since right afterward I see Now ALSA
is ready to use. 'amixer' is supposed to adjust the volume I think.

I tried googling on the error message but no success either.

Just to be on the safe side:

Thanks for for help !

Best,
Sébastien.

Bug#516864: libpam-afs-session: PAGs not used on SSH login

  Package: libpam-afs-session
  Version: 1.7-1
  Severity: important

When logging in via SSH, a user does not get AFS tokens or a PAG, but
  they do get kerberos tickets.

This works correctly via the console, but not SSH.

I suspect your PAM configuration is incorrect, since this works fine for
me. Could you show me your auth and session PAM configuration?

Certainly, they were taken from your README.

chaos:~# grep -v ^# /etc/pam.d/common-auth
auth [success=ok default=1] pam_krb5.so
auth [default=done] pam_afs_session.so debug
auth required pam_unix.so try_first_pass nullok_secure

chaos:~# grep -v ^# /etc/pam.d/common-session
session optional pam_krb5.so
session required pam_afs_session.so debug
chaos:~#

Thank you!

Bug#516914: live-initramfs: should check if /var/log is writable before copying

2009-02-24 Thread Daniel Baumann

thanks

Rene Mayrhofer wrote:
The attached patch just adds a check before trying to copy live.log to the
newly mounted root filesystem. When using the exposedroot skipunion
 options,
then /var/log may not be writable at this time, resulting in an error message
during bootup. The patch fixed this.

applied in git, thanks.

Bug#516885: libavformat52: Videos have a green tint

2009-02-24 Thread Reinhard Tartler

 What player is that?

I'm using Totem to play videos on my up-to-date Sid box.

Did you also make sure that your player actually links against that
library? NB: there has been an SONAME bump in libavcodec

Is it something I should manually check ? The problem just appeared
after the last update to libavformat52...

yes, but this depends. are you using totem-xine or totem-gstreamer? if
totem-xine, does this appear with e.g. gxine as well?

if totem-gstreamer, please try other gstreamer applications as well.

can you reproduce with using 'ffplay' from the ffmpeg package? also,
please attach an example file, not only a screen shot.

I installed ffmpeg and tried to play a file using ffplay. I noticed two
 things:
 - the bug is not showing with ffplay: the videos play fine,

so this is (most probably) not a bug in libavcodec52.

 - with Totem the bug only affect videos encoded with H.264. Regular
 divx files play just fine.

interesting. can you perhaps try other media players as well? This might
help to reassign this bug to the correct package.

I couldn't find an H.264 encoded file small enough to attach it here,
but here's a link to such a file you can test with Totem (I was able
to reproduce the bug opening this link in Totem):
 http://movies.apple.com/movies/mgm/valkyrie/valkyrie-1st5m_h.480.mov

 Hope this help.

sorry, no. that link contains a text file with the following content:

 cat valkyrie-1st5m_h.480.mov
SmoovKrmraCrmda+rdrfurl valkyrie-1st5m_h480.mov

what am I supposed to do with that?
