Bug#629276: NFS needs same dispensation to use DES as AFS
* Brian May [2011-06-07 13:29:33 +1000]: Hello debian-devel, What should I do with this bug? I did build a version for unstable, but I am not convinced this change is needed for unstable. Let me argue that it is still needed for the next Debian release. When that comes out, squeeze will remain supported for another 12 months, and any KDC serving an environment where Kerberized NFS is used on squeeze hosts will need something like this. And that's even without considering support for other distributions or operating systems, which may have their own, possibly glacial paces for migrating to strong crypto. The patch does not prevent the use of stronger enctypes, it just enables the use of DES if requested (and if the service principal has a DES enctype in the KDC database; one can always use del_enctype if need be). I am doubtful it will get accepted in stable, because it isn't fixing a grave bug. I am not sure it is appropriate for backports, because the change isn't in unstable. Thanks On 5 June 2011 19:25, Sergio Gelato sergio.gel...@astro.su.se wrote: Package: heimdal-kdc Version: 1.4.0~git20100726.dfsg.1-1 Tags: patch Recent Heimdal KDC disables DES encryption types on the (valid) grounds that they are too weak. An exception is made where the service principal is afs since the work to upgrade AFS to support stronger crypto is still very much in progress. Unfortunately, Kerberized NFS has a similar problem. Support for stronger enctypes didn't make it into the Linux kernel until 2.6.35 (post-squeeze). Until all NFS servers and clients have been upgraded to support stronger enctypes, a site will want to enable DES enctypes for nfs service principals. Here is a patch that does just that; I've successfully tested it. I think it would be highly desirable to have this in squeeze; more so, in fact, than in later releases since the need for DES support with NFS service principals ought to decrease with time. Without this patch, the KDC rejects AS requests that specify DES enctypes with krb5_crypto_init failed: encryption type (1|2|3) not supported (illustrating another oddity, namely that krb5_crypto_init() uses the same error message whether the enctype is unknown or known but disabled; krb5_enctype_valid() has two distinct error messages) and TGS requests result in Server (nfs/f.q.d.n) has no support for etypes (also in the KDC's log). The client did have [libdefaults]allow_weak_crypto=true, as shown by the fact that the AS and TGS requests asked for a DES enctype. -- Brian May br...@microcomaustralia.com.au -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I used a library trick to allow developers to link against libv3c-1.8.so and libtreedb-0.9-bare.so which is to create an empty library that requires both. yes, if a binary uses symbols from one of these libraries, the binary has to be linked with these. Both of these provide build-arch and build-indep rules, and as a result both can build using those targets today (though individual packages may of course be broken if they did things in the wrong rules). However, each would require updating individually to actually enable their use. Autodetection here would prevent the need for this. It would not. Bug#612077: mirror submission for mirrors.serverhost.ro
Hello Simon, Sorry for the late response to your email. A lot of things had to be done around here. About the Debian mirror, indeed only the i386 and amd64 architecture remain due to the space required by the mirror. About using the ftp.ro.debian.org, I don't see the point in that. The ideea of this mirror is to get the latest updates from the near outside Romania upstream mirror. A Romanian mirror updating from another Romanian mirror is kind of useless from my point of view. The bandwidth allocated to this server is 10mbps outside Romania and 100Mbps Metropolitan/National local peers. Package: avahi-daemon Version: 0.6.27-2+squeeze1 Severity: normal The script at /usr/lib/avahi/avahi-daemon-check-dns.sh do not honour comments (#-starting lines) when using /etc/resolv.conf This causes some delay on system shutdown (and not bootup) if you have a line containing the searched pattern (127.0.0.1) like #nameserver 127.0.0.1 in /etc/resolv.conf (which I had left after tests on DNS lags and caching). Bug#604397: debian-policy: require build-arch and build-indep targets
On Tue, Jun 07, 2011 at 01:02:04AM -0700, Steve Langasek wrote: On Tue, Jun 07, 2011 at 09:39:59AM +0200, Bill Allombert wrote: One thought I had today was what will happen with packages using either cdbs or dh. Both of these provide build-arch and build-indep rules, and as a result both can build using those targets today (though individual packages may of course be broken if they did things in the wrong rules). However, each would require updating individually to actually enable their use. Autodetection here would prevent the need for this. It would not. Currently autobuilder always only install Build-Depends, so 'debian/rules build' has to work with only Build-Depends installed. This means there has basically two cases for package having build-arch/build-indep: a) Packages do not have Build-Depends-Indep. b) Packages have Build-Depends-Indep but the documentation is built in binary-indep instead of build-indep. To get any advantage from this proposal, packages a) need to be changed to have a proper Build-Depends-Indep line. Packages b) already provides the split anyway. There are two benefits of this intended change: avoiding the downloading and installation of heavy build-dependencies only needed for generation of architecture-independent packages; and avoiding the build-time generation of those architecture-independent packages. Existing packages that have properly structured their debian/rules targets already for the second case would get immediate benefit from autodetection, with no further changes. How ? Can you give an exemple ? autobuilders already do not install Build-Depends-Indep. Bug#624387: [PATCH] dfa: fix case folding logic for character ranges
* src/dfa.c (setbit_case_fold): Remove, replace with... (setbit_wc, setbit_c, setbit_case_fold_c): ... these. (parse_bracket_exp): Use setbit_case_fold_c when iterating over single-byte sequences. Use setbit_wc for multi-byte character sets, and setbit_case_fold_c for single-byte character sets. (lex): Use setbit_case_fold_c for single-byte character sets. --- At first I was going to say this: You are using ru_RU.KOI8-R, which is a uni-byte locale, yet your inputs (both stdin and the grep regexp) use the two-byte representation \xd0\9f for П, instead of the uni-byte \360. But it fails even with the single-byte version. So it is indeed a bug in grep, but at least this time it affects relatively few locales. Here's the fix I expect to use and a test case to exercise it. The bug affects all single-byte locales except ISO-8859-1 ones. It is quite serious---the logic to map wide characters back to bytes makes no sense. The attached patch fixes it and does not regress high-bit-range, while removing the debatable uses of wctob and checks for EOF. Bug#629443: bitcoind: A Documentation upgrade is essential for operation
package bitcoind retitle 629443 Bug#629443: please start daemon automatically by default severity 629443 normal thanks On 11-06-06 at 07:30pm, richard wrote: 1. The package summary should clarify that only bitcoind is included and that the user must make separate provision if the bitcoin GUI client is desired. Next packaging release will include in its long description an explicit note that bitcoind provides daemon + command-line interface. I find it inappropriate for the Debian package to document installation of non-Debian software. 2. If it is intended that Debian will provide bitcoind and bitcoin (the GUI) as a single package then suitable guidance should be given. If it is, for example, presently recommended to uninstall the Debian package and to self-compile bitcoind and bitcoin from sources to operate the GUI, some guidance should be given. I find it unsafe, and therefore inappropriate to suggest, use of upstream precompiled code or local custom recompilation of code. 3. The manual pages for bitcoind and bitcoin.conf are useful and complete. They provide guidance on running the bitcoin daemon via a terminal and commandline. Thanks for the heads up :-) Some recommendations on howto startup and shutdown the daemon would upgrade this part of the package in line with the features normally provided by Debian via init.d. Acknowledged! This is only part of the bugreport not yet addressed - bugreport adjusted accordingly. 4. A (brief) discussion on the security of the bitcoind binary and package vs compiling from source would enhance the package. As far as I can tell, while it is desirable from a security point of view for the user to compile at least the GUI (bitcoin) himself, this is presently beyond the ability of the novice Debian user. I disagree: It is outside the scope of this package to elaborate on risks in implementing same (or better) using different approach than official Debian packaging. ...and for posterity, I also disagree with your statement above: It might be desirable from a UX (user experience) POV, but I see no security improvement in novice users fumbling with compilation of code! 5. In the /doc/bitcoind/README file the Setup instructions recommend that four binary files be run. This seems unnecessary, as the package provides a binary - /usr/bin/bitcoind. README is upstream notes. README.Debian is Debian-specific notes. Thanks to your comments here, I now realize that upstream README contains nothing helpful in a Debian context, and next packaging release will skip installing the README to avoid confusion. Bug#624387: [PATCH] dfa: fix case folding logic for character ranges
Paolo Bonzini wrote: * src/dfa.c (setbit_case_fold): Remove, replace with... For trying to solve this issue, I'm upgraded compiz* packages using the the experimental version (0.9.2.1+git20110226.f059fae9-4) but the problem still remain. The only solution, actually, is to disable compiz. As this is related to #629207, I'd echo what was discovered there: downgrading metacity to testing's version solved the problem. For each such entry, ld will discard it if it was not really needed (because redundant or because none of its symbols are referenced and --as-needed is in use); otherwise, it finds the library and includes its symbol table in the linker hash table. The unfortunate message comes because bfd_link_add_symbols has no way to return a meaningful error so it just prints a message itself and returns an error code. Bug#504132: What's the status of libapache-mod-fastcgi in Debian?
Hi Tatsuki Taku, thanks for the work you did on libapache-mod-fastcgi! but recently, it seems this package is lacking a bit of love :) We'd like to use it at work, but we're facing several issues: 1. it doesn't retry to select() in case of EAGAIN, tracked at #504132[1] 2. mod_deflate and mod_fastcgid don't play together, tracked at #509116[2] 3. after the last upload, the package was not built on all the architecture it was built before, as visible on the PTS[3] or directly on the RT excuses[4]. and that prevents its migration to testing that in return prevents its upload to backport.debian.org [1] http://bugs.debian.org/504132 [2] http://bugs.debian.org/509116 [3] http://packages.qa.debian.org/liba/libapache-mod-fastcgi.html [4] http://qa.debian.org/excuses.php?package=libapache-mod-fastcgi 1. and 2. have both patches and could be NMUed if needed (or you can upload a new revision :)) while 3. is a bit more complicated. Following [5] (keeping in mind [6]) you can read that The inclusion on the autobuild list can only be requested by the maintainer of the package - we are not adding a package to be autobuild by requests of anyone except the maintainer. so it's only you that can ask for such autobuilding possibility (I didn't ask if this requirement can be relaxed). Could you please follow those steps and ask for libapache-mod-fastcgi autobuilding? another solution could be a partial (arch) removal from unstable of the outdated archs, but I'd like to use it as a last resort solution. [5] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/11/msg00012.html [6] http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=612563#10 Please note that this is a work project, so I'm feeling a little bit of pressure and I cannot wait that long :) I can NMU or prepare an internal package, but I'd like much more to find a distribution solution so that others can benefit too. Please let me know as soon as you can, but it might be that in about a week I'll start to move this forward. 21:59, Magnus Holmgren rašė: On lördagen den 30 april 2011, you stated the following: Changes: akonadi (1.3.1-4) unstable; urgency=low . * Add patch 04_socket_location.diff to allow akonadi-server to run when HOME is mounted to the network filesystem (Closes: #545139). Thanks to Ansgar Burchardt for the patch. After upgrading to that version, kmail stopped working because it (or rather libakonadi-kde4, or libakonadiprivate1?) still tries to use the old socket path. To be honest, your statement is conflicting. kmail *stopped* working because it still tries to use *old* socket path. It is either kmail worked before (with old path) or it didn't (hence you need new path). Sorry, but I don't understand. What have I missed regarding how clients find the socket? (No socket path is defined in ~/.config/akonadi/akonadiserverrc, so the new default is used.) Bug#629515: offlineimap: re-syncs some of my large folders (archive, sent)
Package: offlineimap Version: 6.3.3-3 Severity: normal I'm a fresh user of offlineimap. I have, on my IMAP server, only a handful of folders, and they're all tiny (up to a few dozen messages, at most), except for to: Archive and Sent, each of which has more than 20 thousands mail. Several times now, offlineimap has decided to re-sync the entire folders. This takes quite a while, and uses quite a lot of bandwidth, enough so that when this happens, I can't use offlineimap unless I'm at home (and then preferably only at night, when bandwidth is cheaper for me). It seems that something deletes the mails locally, since the files are gone from the Maildir when I look at the problem. The problem has occurred between two consecutive runs of offlineimap, without me touching the Maildirs at all (a few minutes between the runs). As far as I know, the only thing touching them is offlineimap. (Unless it's a very weird bug in ext4 or something...) I am using stable, but with offlinemap backported from testing/unstable (manually rebuilt it without changes), to fix a problem (though I now forget what it was). I tried enabling debug logging, but since I don't talk IMAP, it's pretty much useless for me. Is there something I can do to debug this? My plan was to change it to gobjc (= 4:4.6) [!ia64 !sparc], gobjc-4.6. Is that good enough? no, for that case, you need to use gcc-4.6 as the driver. If you want to do this, maybe make the change in gnustep-make and let the gnustep-make package depend on gcc-4.6. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#573737: ITP: grilo -- framework for media discovery and browsing
On Tue, Jun 07, 2011 at 11:56:01AM +0200, Alberto Garcia wrote: A quick update on this: I've been talking to upstream and the problem now is that basically Grilo doesn't have a stable API/ABI yet, so I'm not sure if it makes sense to start packaging it so early. Is there a policy for libraries with no stable API in Debian? Normally you need a stable ABI, so if library versioning is not handled by upstream then you handle the so versioning. Debian-specific so versioning is best avoided though... I suggest putting it in experimental for now No guarantees there, and people who want to test it can easily install it. :) Berto -- Andreas Henriksson -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#611284: FTP-Client fails with FTP proxy and option -n
Hello Mats, sorry for the delay in testing your patch and answering whether this patch works for connecting to a ftp server via ftp proxy. I'm glad to inform you that the patch works very well. There is no longer any SYST command sent to the ftp proxy server prior to sending it the information which server it should connect to (you can see this easily by means of the -d switch). Since there is a SYST command after logging using the user command the ftp client gets the information it needs at that point of time. IMO this patch could be added to the netkit-ftp sources or at least the Debian patch file in future versions of that package. For standard uses (no -n option specified) there is no difference in the manner the ftp client communicates with the ftp server, and when the option -n is given the first command that connects the client to a file tree at a ftp server is the user command which causes to retrieve the system informations from the server after the successful login. Regards, Johannes Mats Erik Andersson wrote on 5/24/2011 1:36 AM: torsdag den 12 maj 2011 klockan 17:24 skrev Johannes Schmidt-Fischer detta: Hello Mats, when I start the FTP client and connect to the FTP proxy I have no chance to specify the FTP server I want to connect to prior to getting the input prompt from the FTP client and entering the user command with the appropriate informations. I had a transparent ftp-proxy in mind. An open invitation is now made to all interested participants to build the client executable using the attached little patch. Do test it in all the use-cases you encounter, and preferrably some more! Not all servers react identically to a SYST command issued before a successful USER command. I can not guarantee that this suggestion will go into production, but for evaluation purposes I need to know that nothing is broken, while at the same time attempting to close this bug in a transparent way for all use-cases we have identified. Bug#623095: tslib: 623095: possibly a kernel issue
package libts-0.0-0 tags 623095 patch thanks Hi, if I read 8613e4c2872a87cc309a42de2c7091744dc54d0e correctly it seems that it does not modify any parts of the API that tslib actually uses. Bug#624387: [PATCH] dfa: fix case folding logic for character ranges
Paolo Bonzini wrote: * src/dfa.c (setbit_case_fold): Remove, replace with... Thanks again for working on this. Your mention of case folding implies that this fixes a bug unrelated to the one I have just fixed. My patch affected code that was guarded by !case_fold. If your patch does indeed fix a case-folding bug, I would really like to see a test case. Grep is at a point in its development that any bug fix commit really should be accompanied by a test suite addition, if at all possible. All that said, your patch looks like a fine improvement. Ahh. Perfect. I see that as I was writing this you have posted a test case (and a nice optimization!). Thanks again! Bug#629526: aptitude: Extend f (forget) to provide for forgetting parts of the new-package list
Package: aptitude Version: 0.6.3-4 Severity: wishlist I mostly keep my systems on stable. When I upgrade to a new version, the New Packages folder in aptitude has thousands of entries. I am not going to succeed in reviewing all of those before the next time my nightly apticron does an update and potentially adds entries to the folders I thought I'd already reviewed; unless I start at the beginning each day (in which case I'll never reach the end) I'll miss some entries. It would be nice if there were some way of marking the entries I *have* reviewed (and decided whether to install) as no longer new without forgetting all the ones I *haven't* yet reviewed. For example: by analogy with f to forget all, F could forget the newness of the item currently selected; that may be a single package or it may be a folder. In the latter case, naturally, the contents of that folder are to be marked as no longer new. (Obviously, if F is already in use to mean some other thing, pick some other suitable key.) This would make it possible to do a rolling review of all new packages when I upgrade; each day I'd review some of the outstanding new packages and F these; the next day, apticron has updated the package list, so some new entries may have appeared in the folders I F'd last time; because I did F what I have reviewed, only these new entries are present in those folders, so I don't have to wade through what was already there to notice them. While it may take a long time to wade through thousands of packages, this at least makes the task feasible without suppressing everything that might update the package list for the duration of the time it takes to review them all. As it is, I either forget thousands of new packages without every reviewing them or never get round to reviewing the thousands of packages new in the new release - either way, I don't actually get to know about fancy new things someone has taken lots of time and effort to make available to me. -- Package-specific info: aptitude 0.6.3 compiled at Apr 2 2011 22:19:05 Compiler: g++ 4.5.2 Compiled against: apt version 4.10.1 NCurses version 5.8 libsigc++ version: 2.2.4.2 Ept support enabled. Bug#629527: apt: should warn (or emit an error) if symbolic and code-names mixed in sources.list
Package: apt Version: 0.8.10.3 Severity: wishlist Hi, For most users, most of the time, mixing symbolic (stable, unstable) and code-names (lenny, squeeze) in sources.list is a mistake, and will lead to trouble. I've encountered this problem on other peoples' systems a few times now. Clearly, there are times when more experienced users will want to do this, but I believe this to be the exeption rather than the rule. Accordingly, I'd like to suggest that apt emits a warning (or maybe an error) if it finds symbolc and code-names in the same sources.list file. Obviously, you'd want an associated apt-config rune to say no, really, I know what I'm doing, but I think this would save our less experienced users a lot of pain. I suspect we'll probably need wrapper scripts to provide these interfaces. We could have a fuse4bsd source package, then a fuse-utils binary with the userland utility (mount.fusefs), and another binary for the kfreebsd module. Package: imagemagick Version: 8:6.6.9.7-3.1 Followup-For: Bug #621799 I noticed that the app wasn't opening from the menu but as the most valuable feature of this request is to be able to open iages with imagemagick from within the file manager I simply added 'NoDisplay=true' to the desktop file. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.39-1-686-pae (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=pt_BR.utf8, LC_CTYPE=pt_BR.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages imagemagick depends on: ii libbz2-1.0 1.0.5-6 high-quality block-sorting file co ii libc6 2.13-4 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libfontconfig1 2.8.0-2.2generic font configuration library ii libfreetype62.4.4-1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libglib2.0-02.28.6-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgomp14.6.0-11 GCC OpenMP (GOMP) support library ii libice6 2:1.0.7-1X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libjpeg62 6b1-1The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii liblcms11.18.dfsg-1.2+b4 Color management library ii liblqr-1-0 0.4.1-1 converts plain array images into m ii libltdl72.4-2A system independent dlopen wrappe ii libmagickcore4 8:6.6.9.7-3.1low-level image manipulation libra ii libmagickwand4 8:6.6.9.7-3.1image manipulation library ii libsm6 2:1.2.0-1X11 Session Management library ii libtiff43.9.5-1 Tag Image File Format (TIFF) libra ii libx11-62:1.4.3-1X11 client-side library ii libxext62:1.3.0-1X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxt6 1:1.1.1-1X11 toolkit intrinsics library ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3 compression library - runtime Versions of packages imagemagick recommends: pn ghostscriptnone(no description available) ii libmagickcore4-extra 8:6.6.9.7-3.1 low-level image manipulation libra pn netpbm none(no description available) pn ufraw-batchnone(no description available) Versions of packages imagemagick suggests: pn autotracenone (no description available) pn cups-bsd | lpr | lprng none (no description available) pn curl none (no description available) pn enscript none (no description available) pn ffmpeg none (no description available) ii gimp 2.6.11-2The GNU Image Manipulation Program pn gnuplot none (no description available) pn gradsnone (no description available) ii groff-base 1.21-5 GNU troff text-formatting system ( pn hp2xxnone (no description available) pn html2ps none (no description available) pn imagemagick-doc none (no description available) pn libwmf-bin none (no description available) pn mplayer none (no description available) pn povray none (no description available) pn radiance none (no description available) pn sane-utils none (no description available) pn texlive-base-bin none (no description available) pn transfig none (no description available) ii xdg-utils1.1.0~rc1-2 desktop integration utilities from -- no debconf information [Desktop Entry] Version=1.0 Name=ImageMagick Name[pt_BR]=ImageMagick Comment=Display and edit image files Comment[pt_BR]=Exiba e edite arquivos de imagem Exec=display %f Terminal=false Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/display.xpm Type=Application Categories=Graphics; NoDisplay=true MimeType=image/bmp;image/gif;image/ico;image/jpeg;image/miff;image/png;image/ppm;image/rgb;image/rgba;image/svg;image/tiff;image/xcf;image/xpm;image/xbm; # image/aai image/art image/arw image/avi image/avs image/bmp image/cals image/cgm image/cin image/cmyk image/cmyka image/cr2 image/crw image/cur image/cut image/dcm image/dcr image/dcx image/dib image/djvu image/dng image/dot image/dpx image/emf image/epdf image/epi image/eps image/eps2 image/eps3 image/epsf image/epsi image/ept image/exr image/fax image/fig image/fits image/fpx image/gif image/gplt image/gray image/hdr image/hpgl image/hrz image/html image/ico image/info image/inline image/jbig image/jng image/jp2 image/jpc image/jpeg image/man image/mat image/miff image/mono
Bug#623425: [hurd] killall: ftbfs, fails to run
Hi, About a month ago I sent two patches to killall. The more important of the two was: Jonathan Nieder wrote: Patch 1 switches to a buffer of size strlen(path) + 1, which should be large enough to fit a symlink target that matches and to determine whether the actual target is longer. The buffer was missing a null-terminator and tested using strcmp, so patch 1 switches to memcmp while at it. since readlink is not required to (and on some platforms does not even if it has room to) NUL-terminate its buffer. Is there anything I can do to help move this forward (for example, do you want test cases, or should I put up a tree based on the upstream git repository)? If it's just life being busy, I can understand, and sorry for the noise. None of this is particularly urgent; I'd just rather get everything in order while it's fresh in my memory. Thanks for taking care of procps and psmisc. It's nice that these programs still just work™. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
