installed. this seems to be missing from the build-deps (I had to
install it manually) and it's absence is not detected during build
or warned of in a meaningful way.

because I didn't have any aspell libraries installed. Installing aspell-en
fixed the problem.

The upstream report was marked as RESOLVED... and WONTFIX. Upstream
documented the behavior, but understandably does not consider it as a
bug. I'm not sure if the upstream tag is justified.
So, we'll have to patch :-(

Thanks for spotting this bug. Seeing as geany-plugin-spellcheck depends on
libenchant, and libenchant is meant to be an abstraction layer for several spell
checker backends, the dependency should go there instead, so I'm reassigning
this bug to enchant
