Bug#1065814: golang-github-go-jose-go-jose: CVE-2024-28180

2024-03-09 Thread Salvatore Bonaccorso
Source: golang-github-go-jose-go-jose
Version: 3.0.1-2
Severity: grave
Tags: security upstream
Justification: user security hole
X-Debbugs-Cc: car...@debian.org, Debian Security Team

Hi,

The following vulnerability was published for golang-github-go-jose-go-jose.

CVE-2024-28180[0]:
| Package jose aims to provide an implementation of the Javascript
| Object Signing and Encryption set of standards. An attacker could
| send a JWE containing compressed data that used large amounts of
| memory and CPU when decompressed by Decrypt or DecryptMulti. Those
| functions now return an error if the decompressed data would exceed
| 250kB or 10x the compressed size (whichever is larger). This
| vulnerability has been patched in versions 4.0.1, 3.0.3 and 2.6.3.

If you fix the vulnerability please also make sure to include the
CVE (Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures) id in your changelog entry.

Bug#1062001: RFS: trader/7.20-3 -- simple game of interstellar trading

2024-03-09 Thread John Zaitseff
Control: retitle -1 RFS: trader/7.20-3 -- simple game of interstellar trading

Dear mentors,

[This is an updated email now that I believe I have addressed all
outstanding issues raised by Bastian Germann and Tobias Frost.]

I am still looking for a sponsor for my updated package "trader", a
simple game of interstellar trading:

  Package name:trader
  Version: 7.20-3
Upstream author: John Zaitseff -- that's me!
  URL: https://www.zap.org.au/projects/trader/
  License: GPL3+
  Vcs: https://git.zap.org.au/git/trader.git -b with-debian
  Section: games

It builds one binary package:

trader - simple game of interstellar trading

I have successfully built appropriate binaries using Debian chroots
on my own server at https://ftp.zap.org.au/pub/debian/. You can
download using dget with:

  dget -x
https://ftp.zap.org.au/pub/debian/dists/zapgroup-sid/main/source/trader_7.20-3.dsc

Changes since the last upload to Debian:

  trader (7.20-3) unstable; urgency=low

* New upstream release: changed documentation (history of the game),
updated Swedish, Norwegian Bokmål, French, German, Serbian, Esperanto,
  Romanian, Polish and Ukrainian translations.
* Incorporates changes made to previous upstream release (not uploaded
to Debian): new Polish, Romanian and Ukrainian translations, renamed
  AppStream metainfo and desktop files.
* Added debian/patches/0001-man-page-bug-fix.patch from upstream commit.
* Removed version numbers on build dependencies for Automake and
Gettext: oldstable already has at least the required versions.
* Changed Vcs-Git link to use HTTPS instead of Git protocol.
* Included copyright information for Gnulib files in debian/copyright.
* Added debian/upstream/metadata as requested by Tobias Frost.
* Removed superfluous signatures from debian/upstream/signing-key.asc.
* Updated to Debian Policy 4.6.2 (no changes).

I discovered the helpful lintian-brush package and ran it over my
repository. This has fixed the public-upstream-key-not-minimal
message.

Bug#1065813: src:rocm-compilersupport: fails to migrate to testing for too long: clang-17 not available on mips64el

2024-03-09 Thread Paul Gevers

Source: rocm-compilersupport
Version: 5.2.3-2
Severity: serious
Control: close -1 6.0+git20231212.4510c28+dfsg-3
Tags: sid trixie
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: out-of-sync

Dear maintainer(s),

The Release Team considers packages that are out-of-sync between testing
and unstable for more than 30 days as having a Release Critical bug in
testing [1]. Your package src:rocm-compilersupport has been trying to
migrate for 31 days [2]. Hence, I am filing this bug. The version in
unstable Build-Depends on clang-17, but that's not available on mips64el
(tracked in bug #1056116).

If a package is out of sync between unstable and testing for a longer
period, this usually means that bugs in the package in testing cannot be
fixed via unstable. Additionally, blocked packages can have impact on
other packages, which makes preparing for the release more difficult.
Finally, it often exposes issues with the package and/or
its (reverse-)dependencies. We expect maintainers to fix issues that
hamper the migration of their package in a timely manner.

This bug will trigger auto-removal when appropriate. As with all new
bugs, there will be at least 30 days before the package is auto-removed.

I have immediately closed this bug with the version in unstable, so if
that version or a later version migrates, this bug will no longer affect
testing. I have also tagged this bug to only affect sid and trixie, so
it doesn't affect (old-)stable.

If you believe your package is unable to migrate to testing due to
issues beyond your control, don't hesitate to contact the Release Team.

This doesn't currently cause a FTBFS in Testing and it's fixed in Unstable, so
lowering severity to important.

I am very confused with this bug report as well. Meanwhile, Daniel seems to have
taken ownership of this bug and intends to maintain this and a few other
packages
in the python team[1].

Jonas, are you actually willing to transfer the ownership?
In any case, please comment/communicate w/ Daniel before an upload happens

vacuums Firefox databases (to improve performance without deleting data), and
 securely shreds arbitrary files.

Bug#1065751: Incomplete fix for xz -T1

2024-03-09 Thread Jeremy Bícha
This issue also affects being able to use git-buildpackage to generate
pristine-tar tarballs for tarballs that were already committed before
the recent changes to pristine-tar. For instance I experienced it
today with `gbp buildpackage` with gtk4 but the original tarball was
committed in January.

Ideally, we would not need to attempt to reconstruct old pristine-tar
git branches since that sounds like a very large amount of work and
it's disruptive to everyone who has local copies of the git repos.

Thank you,
Jeremy Bícha

Bug#1065787: [Pkg-rust-maintainers] Bug#1065787: cargo: 0.70.1+ds1-2+b1 FTBFS on armhf/armel due to uninstallable dependencies

2024-03-09 Thread Peter Michael Green

The armhf build complains about Extra-Depends: dpkg-dev (>= 1.22.5),
gcc-13 (>= 13.2.0-16.1), libssl-dev (>= 3.1.5-1.1), but I checked and
all of these exists in armhf, so not sure what is going on.

There is a little more information further down the page.

cargo build-depends on:
- cargo:armel (>= 0.56.0)
cargo depends on:
-libssl3 :armel
(>= 3.0.0)
libssl3t64 conflicts with:
-libssl3 :armel
(< 3.1.5-1.1)

Rustc and cargo require rustc and cargo to build. Normally this isn't
a huge problem. The previous version is just used to build the new
version. Old and new libraries are normally co-installable.

However, as a result of the time_t transition, many libraries have
had an incompatible ABI change on 32-bit architectures (excluding i386),
but *not* an upstream soname bump. Since the soname has not changed,
the old and new libraries cannot be co-installed.

This will require manual intervention to resolve, either through
cross-building or through building manually in a hacked-up build
environment.

I've certainly seen mention of rustc on #debian-devel recently,
so I think the people handling the time_t transition are already
aware of this.

Bug#1065806: pam: recent upgrade changes previous default umask

2024-03-09 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
Source: pam
Version: 1.5.3-6
Severity: normal

Hey.

Somwhere in between 1.5.2-9.1+b1 and 1.5.3-6 the default umask for non-root
users has changed from 0022 to 0002.
Interestingly, root doesn't seem to be affected.

Intially I suspected b01196659c785b04abc387d324fae61e2ec3b1aa, but at least
when re-commenting the:
> session optional pam_umask.so
in both files again, it still stays at 0002.

I don't so much mind the change itself, but shouldn't such a big change
go at least into NEWS.Debian and probably also he release notes?

Cheers,
CHris.

That's because it's from systemd's crypttab, which is a latter
development that is in incompatible but uses the same filename.

crypttab(5) manpage already contains a reference on that:

Bug#1065801: cryptsetup: Crypttab man pages does not list option _netdev which is required for Network based unlocking via Tang

2024-03-09 Thread bigops
Package: cryptsetup
Version: cryptsetup 2.6.1
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: d...@mailon.mozmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

The crypttab which is part of the cryptsetup package in its man page does not
include the option _netdev. _netdev is required for unlocking Luks volumes via
Clevis/Tang.

Confirmed that the block device is not unlocked without this option in the
crypttab even though it is not documented. The manpages in freedesktop.org has
this option (_netdev)
documented
(https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/latest/crypttab.html)

My current crypttab which works is like this

bdrive LABEL="bdisk" none _netdev,luks

Also crypttab with _netdev alone does not seem to unlock the luks volume and
the volume is only unlocked when a corresponding entry with _netdev exists in
/etc/fstab like
the one below

/dev/mapper/bdrive /mnt/disk1xfs defaults,_netdev 0 2

Earlier behavior was that if crypttab has the _netdev option the luks device is
unlocked but not mounted. In the latest version it will work only when it is
decrypted and
mounted. Also if the /etc/fstab option is not present the disk is not unlocked
even if the noauto is not configured in crypttab and everythign silently fails
without any logs
in Journald or anywhere as if crypttab itself is not processed.

The desired option would be

(1) Crypttab manual states clearly the _netdev option
(2) Crypttab should be able to unlock the luks volume without mounting it using
fstab as suggested by the freeesktop manual.
(3) If crypttab mount fails there should be an error in the journal log rather
than silently failing.

Bug#1065695: libhsa-runtime-dev: endianness detection in fails on arm64 and ppc64el

2024-03-09 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Picking the correct endian test is quite complex, if we should believe
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/8978935/detecting-endianness >.

Note, there are middle endian architetures in addition to big and little
endian architectures, and some architectures have different endianness
for integeres and floating point numbers. No idea if this affect
libhsa-runtime-dev, but thought it best to mention it just in case.

Thanks for checking. Once bioperl-run and python-biopython is fixed we
reset moreinfo.

d-i debian-installer/locale string en_US

This is the eventual culprit, it should be

d-i debian-installer/locale string en_US.UTF-8

Do we actually support non-UTF-8 locales, actually?

Indeed, it does look like the same thing. I'm sorry I missed the original
bug and never saw your patch.

It looks good to me. I agree it feels like adding another layer of duct
tape, but hopefully we can clean that up later once we no longer have to
support usr-not-merged.

I'm going to go ahead and upload to unstable.

Many thanks for the patch.

Bug#1065038: src:commit-patch: fails to migrate to testing for too long: uploader built arch:all binary

2024-03-09 Thread David Caldwell

Hi,

Your package is only blocked because the arch:all binary package(s)
aren't built on a buildd. Unfortunately the Debian infrastructure
doesn't allow arch:all packages to be properly binNMU'ed. Hence, I will
shortly do a no-changes source-only upload to DELAYED/15, closing this
bug. Please let me know if I should delay or cancel that upload.

I think this failed. I got this email shortly afterward:

Subject: commit-patch_2.6.2-1_amd64.changes REJECTED

>

Version check failed:
Your upload included the source package commit-patch, version 2.6.2-1,
however unstable already has version 2.6.2-1.
Uploads to unstable must have a higher version than present in unstable.

Is this expected or did something go wrong?

Today I got this:

commit-patch 2.6-2.1 is marked for autoremoval from testing on 2024-03-29

It is affected by these RC bugs:
1065038: commit-patch: fails to migrate to testing for too long: uploader built
arch:all binary
 https://bugs.debian.org/1065038

So I think things are not in a good state. What is the solution to this?

Thanks,
  David

Bug#1065787: cargo: 0.70.1+ds1-2+b1 FTBFS on armhf/armel due to uninstallable dependencies

2024-03-09 Thread Otto Kekäläinen
Package: cargo
Version: 0.70.1+ds1-2+b1

I noticed that the latest build (probably for 64-bit time_t) at
https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=cargo=sid fails
to build for armhf and armel.

The armhf build complains about Extra-Depends: dpkg-dev (>= 1.22.5),
gcc-13 (>= 13.2.0-16.1), libssl-dev (>= 3.1.5-1.1), but I checked and
all of these exists in armhf, so not sure what is going on.

For armel the latest gcc 13.2.0-18 didn't build, but the dependency
version 13.2.0-16.1 did, so it should be all good.

I am not sure what is going on here. Could it be that cargo has some
special build-depend rules in debian/control etc. Filing this bug to
make sure the packager is aware of the build being stuck.

This issue currently blocks the builds of python-cryptography[1] on
armel/armhf, which in turn blocks stunnel[2], which in turn blocks
curl[3] which in turn blocks a dozen packages.

Ahah! That's indeed the trigger. I also have to pass -vga vmware to
qemu, so the linux console stays in pure text mode, no fbcon.

As I was guessing, it's the console-setup configuration that mangles
everything, we'll be able to have a look.

I couldn't reproduce it with all other parameters being the default,
I'll dig more.

I believe this has been previously reported as #1062176.

Are you experiencing this with 4.9.3 as the bug's metadata suggests, or
did you perhaps set up podman e.g. on bullseye, and then later upgraded
(without a system reset)? In other words, if you run the "system reset"
commands, without having containers-storage installed, does it also
address your issue?

In my investigation in the aforementioned bug, I came into the
conclusion that this has already been fixed (properly) upstream in
versions that we already have in trixie, and that it's perhaps a bit too
invasive to do as stable upload. Let me know if you think this is wrong
and/or you disagree.

Faidon

If and only if time64_t is done by then. Adding more changes where
transition has to be coordinated to the ongoing mega transition does not
help.

Bug#1051237: transition: move files from / to /usr to finalize /usr-merge

2024-03-09 Thread Helmut Grohne
Hi release team and essential maintainers,

On Mon, Sep 04, 2023 at 10:33:54PM +0200, Helmut Grohne wrote:
> Once these issues have been resolved, we can move most files except for

We're well into this now. Most of the essential set is moved and I've
most of the remaining pieces. I hope that within one week, we're left
with only:
 - base-files
 - bash
 - dash
 - glibc
 - util-linux

Patches for these have been prepared. The current patches are available
from https://salsa.debian.org/helmutg/bootstrap-usrmerge-demo. These
changes have been uploaded to Ubuntu noble already and feedback has been
incorporated. In particular, base-files will now divert to dot files to
avoid cluttering the / view during the transition and base-files will
remove unnecessary diversions (those where it ships symlinks).

I'd now like to coordinate a time of upload. Given that chroots are
rebuilt in Wednesday and Sunday, I suggest we pick a Thursday morning
for the actual upload. If I unexpectedly break stuff, I still have a few
days to fix. How about March 21st?

Once this has uploaded, we need to ensure that these packages migrate
together. Also note that dash's autopkgtest will fail unless it uses the
updated base-files, but it cannot depend on base-files. If you prefer, I
can mark the relevant test case as flaky and unmark it in a second
upload. Having a temporary migration block on these packages would also
be a good idea.

Once agreed, I shall announce this change to d-d-a as I cannot fully
rule out it being disruptive despite the extensive testing performed.

> We probably have to use NMUs to convert remaining packages at this
> point. Once everything is moved, we may think we're done, but we're not.

Speaking of the rest of packages. At the time of this writing, the
numbers are:
 * 224 source packages can be moved via dh-sequence-movetousr.
 * 191 source packages have a dep17 usertagged bug report (most with
   patches).
 * 141 source packages can be moved with a no-change sourceful upload.
This is about Arch:all packages as we already binNMUed the others.
 * 35 source packages cannot be analyzed, because they FTBFS (reported).
 * A 1-digit number of packages (e.g. the bootstrap ones above) needs
special handling, but this is communicated and monitored.

I hope that these numbers go down moving forward (especially the patches
one). At some point, I want to mass-NMU the remaining packages.

> As packages are restructured throughout the release cycle, they may
> introduce file loss scenarios. Continued monitoring for problems until
> trixie is released is crucial.

The biggest chunk of findings was due to time64. I think the reports are
timely and actionable. Generally, I hope that we'll run into less
fallout moving forward as the "big" stuff is being handled. One
exception here is that time64 has introduced a pile of "risky replaces".
These are not accounted as buggy in the above numbers but need to be
addressed before we can mass-NMU. That'll happen once the dust settles
on time64.

Any objections so far?

Helmut

Bug#1065773: mate-user-admin uses own NAME_REGEX (useradd) other than /etc/adduser.conf failing user creation

2024-03-09 Thread Luis Guzman
Package: mate-user-admin
Version: 1.7.0-1
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: a...@switnet.org

user-admin or mate-user-admin as a debian package uses it's own REGEX to accept
username creation as by default is uses useradd.
https://github.com/zhuyaliang/user-admin/blob/094986c6ac77cad0f4c34048cb51b3d345ca7348/src/user-admin.c#L285-L297

For exmaple, try creating a user account with username starting with a
uppercase character: Bob
Such usename will pass the regex check, and then leads to an error as it won't
match /etc/adduser.conf
`running '/usr/sbin/adduser' failed: Child process exited with code 1`

This patch changes the default useradd in favor of adduser on debian:
https://sources.debian.org/patches/accountsservice/22.08.8-6/0002-create-and-manage-groups-like-on-a-debian-system.patch/

Maybe it can be expanded in order to modify the mathing characters at
user-admin/src/user-admin.c preventing this error.

There is a bug report upstream, but seems like the change from useradd to
adduser is the root cause.
https://github.com/zhuyaliang/user-admin/issues/62

Regards.

A workaround for this is to reset the pristine-tar branch, deleting the
committed cu flags tarball and commit the -- flags one (that you just
checked out) manually.

Bug#1065754: timidity-daemon: Timidity STILL breaks sound after install by adding itself the the audio group in /etc/group

2024-03-09 Thread Joshua Richards
Package: timidity-daemon
Version: 2.14.0-8.1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software
X-Debbugs-Cc: joshuapricha...@gmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
I installed Timidity. It doesn't break until after a reboot (which may take
weeks for some people). After I rebooted days later for an unrelated reason, I
lost all audio and PulseAudio no longer showed my sound card at all.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
Researched online, found a 6 year old bug marked as CLOSED, and impemented the
fix by removing timidity from the
audio:
line in /etc/group where it was put by timidity-daemon.postinst line 48 as
referenced in reply #58 HERE (ty Kingsley): https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=901931#58
   * What was the outcome of this action?
After removing timidity from the audio: line in /etc/group and rebooting, aduio
was restored and PulseAudio once again showed my sound card as present.
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Bug #901931 to not have been marked as resolved and this to have been fixed SIX
YEARS ago.

Bug#1065753: src:magic-wormhole: unsatisfied build dependency in testing: python3-magic-wormhole-mailbox-server

2024-03-09 Thread Paul Gevers

Source: magic-wormhole
Version: 0.12.0-1.1
Severity: serious
Tags: sid trixie
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: edos-uninstallable

Dear maintainer(s),

Dose [1] is reporting a build issue with your package, it's missing a
build dependency. Obviously your build dependencies shouldn't be
removed from testing, but unfortunately there are multiple scenarios
where that can happen nevertheless. To uphold our social contract,
Debian requires that packages can be rebuild from source in the suite
we are shipping them, so currently this is a serious issue with your
package in testing.

Can you please investigate the situation and figure out how to resolve
it? Regularly, if the build dependency is available in unstable,
helping the maintainer of your Build-Depends to enable migration to
testing is a great way to solve the issue. If your build dependency is
gone from unstable and testing, you'll have to fix the build process
in some other way.

Paul

Note: this bug report was sent after some quick manual checks using a
template. Please reach out to me if you believe I made a mistake in my
process.

Bug#1065752: src:expat: fails to migrate to testing for too long: autopkgtest breakage

2024-03-09 Thread Paul Gevers

Source: expat
Version: 2.5.0-2
Severity: serious
Control: close -1 2.6.1-1
Tags: sid trixie
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: out-of-sync

Dear maintainer(s),

The Release Team considers packages that are out-of-sync between testing
and unstable for more than 30 days as having a Release Critical bug in
testing [1]. Your package src:expat has been trying to migrate for 31
days [2]. Hence, I am filing this bug. The version in unstable causes
autopkgtest failure in multiple reverse dependencies.

It looks like #1063252 was not enough to support tar.xz files created by new
xz-utils. I've created a tarball, committed it into my gbp repo, checked it out
and xz -lvv doesn't show the cu flags for it (and so it's not identical to the
original one). As making a minimal example involving git sounds too complicated
I tried to make a minimal example with raw commands, hopefully I did that
correctly:

Followup-For: Bug #1052195

Dear Maintainer,

Every time I lauch post-mode in emacs, the Compile-Log buffer shows up
displaying 7 times the following:

/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/post-el/post.el: Warning: ‘point’ is an obsolete
generalized variable; use ‘goto-char’ instead.

It also displays "Package cl is deprecated" in the very bottom line. I
have no fluence in lisp so I can't help too much here, but lookin at the line
275 of '/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/post-el/post.el' you find

(require 'cl)

as well as some occurrences of 'point' along the code. Ihave no ideia
on how complicated it can be to fix this, but I will try to help under
any guidance to have this useful package working for us all.

Best, Alexandre

Hi Cord,

Running a search for 'python removal' on the 'testing-changes' mailing list,
ordered by most-recent-first, currently lacks any results from this year.

https://lists.debian.org/cgi-bin/search?P=python+removal=and=Gdebian-testing-changes=0=100=python%09removal=Gdebian-testing-changes%7E.%7E%7E0

The most recent item that appears is:

And an example item that I would expect to see included is:
