Bug#367296: browsing downloaded .php's later from disk

2006-06-10 Thread Eric Dorland
* Dan Jacobson ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) wrote:

 Problem: users saves e.g.,
 $ wget http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/firmware.php
 to disk, then attempts
 $ firefox ./firmware.php
But firefox, and other browsers, don't know that it is indeed just
 html.

It's tricky though, cause it doesn't have to be. A php script could
output pretty much any type of content.

 The user must first
 $ mv firmware.php firmware.html
 for easier browsing.

I'm not sure who to blame this bug on.
One could reassign this bug to /etc/mime.types, but that would only
 fix other browsers, not firefox.

Or maybe it is all the fault of websites for calling the file .php.

been considered? It would eliminate one source of error, namely
 forgetting to bcc [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The problem with doing this, is it means that all messages need to be
parsed, and to be correct, all messages then need to generate a
transcript message which should be sent back to the user sending the
mail.

If you want this as the default for you, it wouldn't be too difficult
to set up hooks in most MTAs to notice that you're mailing
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and have it automatically Bcc: control. You'd just
get an extra mail until it went five lines wihtout a command, but I
suppose that's what is expected.

In fact, this is caused by a typo in configure.in:
VDK_CFLAGS=$VDK_CLAGS $VDKXDB_CFLAGS

Due to the missing F, part of the CFLAGS are not used in the build.
I was able to build vdkbuilder2 by correcting this and running autoconf.

Please reconsider. If you don't integrate that version now, we'll most
probably do the switch to python2.4 in the next days and we'll replace
dh_python calls by dh_python2 calls (integrated for example in the python
package) or we'll remove call to dh_python in favor of dh_pycentral (existing
and in python-central) / dh_pythonsupport (not existing but quick to
create).

And if we go that way, then we loose the possibility to move easily to a
single unified helper tool in the future since all packages would have
again to be modified to reuse dh_python.

It seems we need a Pre-Depends: gs-gpl | gs (I think this is because
/usr/bin/gs is managed through the alternatives mechanism, so that it
does not exist until a Ghostscript providing package has been
 configured).

Can you confirm that installing a Ghostscript providing package will
 solve the issue?

Since on Debian Ghostscript is not going to be called GSWIN32C.EXE
ever, one could override detection by calling ./configure with the
additional argument GS=gs.

The test in the configure script is mainly there for prodding Windows
users to actually fix their PATH environment variable.

Now you have the package you ca install it with dpkg -i package.deb as

 I'll try without HIPPI again.

That was indeed succesfull.

Bug#372499: find: result depends of locales

I am not sure if it is an indented feature or a bug, but for me it
 looks like a real problem.
The result of a search using find depends of the locale.

This can happen with multibyte encodings without a bug.

Let's take an example: I want to search the current directory for every
file that don't end with .mp3

 ___

 $ LC_ALL=C find ./ \( ! -name *.mp3 \) | wc -l
 504

 $ LC_ALL=fr_FR.UTF-8 find ./ \( ! -name *.mp3 \) | wc -l
 513
 ___
[...]

I'd need an example tree (actually just the list of filenames, find
-print0 list.utf.txt should work) to check whether there is a bug.

Martin,

I have just upgraded from postgresql 7.3 to the clustered 7.4 and found

duplicates and conflicts with the new

  DK == David Kastrup [2006-6-10]

[...]

DK Since on Debian Ghostscript is not going to be called GSWIN32C.EXE

DK additional argument GS=gs.

Thanks David,

this is actually a much better idea, rather than Pre-Depends. Next
upload I will implement it.

Meanwhile, I found out this way we really solved an orthogonal bug: the
Debconf warning is still there (apt-get install auctex in a minimal sid
chroot, 11.83-1+ has GS=gs into the emacsen install script):
--8---cut here---start-8---
[...]

Setting up emacs21 (21.4a-6) ...
emacs-install emacs21

auctex: Debconf passed unknown value `10 auctex/doauto doesn't exist'.

Setting up auctex (11.83-1+) ...
install/auctex: Setting up for emacs21... done.
update-auctex-elisp[2796]: Further output will appear in:
/tmp/update-auctex-elisp.Uin1412.
--8---cut here---end---8---

I think #370659 is due to auctex configure script not being called
before its emacsen install script. I need to think a bit more about the
best way to solve the issue.

Bug#371841: mysqld fails to start, saying debian-sys-maint has no ccess

2006-06-10 Thread Olaf
Hello Christian,

yes, it is 5.0.22-2. What I tried today: purge everything that is mysql
related. When finished, the user debian-sys-maint was deleted. I then
installed a fresh copy of mysql-server-5.0, now it refuses to start. No
wonder: the user debian-sys-maint still does not exist. I assumed that
it would automatically created by the preinstall scripts.

How do I create this user manually as a workaround? What groups does it
belong to?

The bug is still tagged moreinfo and I would be happy to provide any.

Package: gnome-panel

As described, you open the drow-down calendar, when double-clicking

Bug#372569: schroot session recovery requires explicit root access

2006-06-10 Thread Roger Leigh
Package: schroot
Version: 0.2.11-1
Severity: normal

root must be granted access to every chroot requiring recovery, or
the init script will fail. This is not particularly useful.

root should automatically get access, at least for session recovery,
and this may as well extend to all session operations.

This used to be the case, but the special casing was removed a few
months ago. This can simply be added back.

Bug#370659: auctex: preinst warning: Debconf passed unknown value

2006-06-10 Thread Davide G. M. Salvetti
  DGMS == Davide G M Salvetti [2006-6-10]

DGMS I think #370659 is due to auctex configure script not being called
DGMS before its emacsen install script. I need to think a bit more
DGMS about the best way to solve the issue.

Did another minimal chroot run: apt-get install debconf; apt-get
install auctex. Results:

update-auctex-elisp[12045]: Further output will appear in:

--8---cut here---end---8---

Therefore, it looks like the bug happens when debconf has not yet been
configured. If that were the case, it might be solved by a
Pre-Depends: debconf | debconf-2.0. Still thinking about it.

Meanwhile, Frank, can you please test and confirm the analysis?

Bug#372295:

2006-06-10 Thread Tobias Frost
Sounds like a low-priority debconf question.

In the first line, it is not a bug.

Anyway, I still oppose to making the default just shut down unless
you know how to handle it properly.

Also, the typical use case for
powersaved/kpowersave is a laptop user running KDE.

No, it's not. powersaved can be run by anyone.

That a matter of opinion. For example, I think, powesaved it configured
best out of box.

Does it? Come on... should I submit the patch?

I think, noone would prevent you from writing a patch.
But I also think, that we don't need graphical configuration
everywhere. This is Debian, not SuSe (Again, personal opinion)

Maybe a suggestion for a tradeoff
Make a note into the pacakage description about the default behaviour,
or into /usr/share/doc/powesaved/README.Debian and point in the description
toward it

Bug#315339: update to lvm2 2.02.05-1 renders striped vg unusable

2006-06-10 Thread Tjeerd Pinkert

Package: lvm2
Version: 2.02.05-1

Installing version 2.02.05-1 from the lvm2 package makes my striped VG
unreadable (the other vg does well), downgrading to 2.01.04-5 fixes the
problem.

I can not give you the exact outcome of the vgdisplay but it gave about
the same outcome as in the report of Igor Belyi, Tue, 28 Jun 2005
19:11:49 -0400 (this appears to be the same problem), but some other name
of the volume and other counter numbers (most probably 547 != 1094).

I would say it looked like (i can get you this but than I have to render
my system 'unusable' first):

# vgdisplay datavolume
LV backup: inconsistent LE count 547 != 1094
Internal error: LV segments corrupted in backup.
  Volume group datavolume doesn't exist

now it says (with 2.01.04-5):

Please reconsider. If you don't integrate that version now, we'll most
probably do the switch to python2.4 in the next days and we'll replace
dh_python calls by dh_python2 calls (integrated for example in the python
package) or we'll remove call to dh_python in favor of dh_pycentral (existing
and in python-central) / dh_pythonsupport (not existing but quick to
 create).

Please don't prefix non-debhelper commands with dh_ if you do this. Call
it deb_pysupport/deb_pycentral or something, and likewise please don't
mess with #DEBHELPER#. Stomping all over the namespace because you were
rejected from the package per se seems to miss Joey's point.

;-) Some things are already prepared in the packaging.

Hi Matthias, and thanks for the time you're spending on gcc's and
python's transitions!

Now that we know gcc 4.1 is going to be the default version in Etch,
maybe it is time to get rid of this old bug.

Here is a cpp.1 based on the help output of cpp (and on the help2man
command) that may be considered as a free interim replacement until we
have an exhaustive free documentation for GCC.

Do you think it will help? Do you want me to work on other manpages
from the --help output?

I can imagine that you are very busy currently, but please just drop a
note to let me know if I can work on it during the current BSP in Paris.

ideas are welcome as always :)

DDPO does the following:

$description = htmlspecialchars(dba_fetch(d:$package, $pack_db)); /* try
source name first */
if (!$description)
$description = htmlspecialchars(dba_fetch(d:$binaries[0], $pack_db));

But imho, the PTS should have enough space somewhere on the page to
actually print the description. (Though I would be fine with the
mouse-over title.)

2006-06-10 Thread Bart Martens
Hi Christian,

Bug 92047 suggests to rename libgtk-pixbuf-perl to libgdk-pixbuf-perl.
Any opinion on that?

I'm asking you, because your dvdrip package is the only package I know
that uses libgtk-pixbuf-perl.

Bug#349630: Intention to NMU libxml++2.6

2006-06-10 Thread Bradley Bell
Hi, attached is the patch for the version of libxml++2.6 I intend to
upload, applied to
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/libxml++/2.14/libxml++-2.14.0.tar.gz.

Also attached is the delta between just the debian/ subdirs.

Since this fixes an RC bug and blocks one of my packages, please respond
right away if you don't want this NMU to happen or you think it might
cause a problem.

Thanks,
Brad

Right now the PTS only parses Sources files and I would avoid having to

how does DDPO cope with libraries descriptions? source package name rarely is

The links to the binary packages should have the short description for
each as tooltip.

I would also use the description of the binary package named the same
as the source (if existing) as description for the source. Or if there
is only one binary package use that.

wonder: the user debian-sys-maint still does not exist. I assumed that
it would automatically created by the preinstall scripts.
Yes it's done by the postinst script and works fine here.

Can you do: export DEBIAN_SCRIPT_DEBUG=1
and then reinstall or at least do a dpkg-reconfigure mysql-server-5.0
and save the output using script or similar?

How do I create this user manually as a workaround? What groups does it
 belong to?
The reconfigure does this. Oh and we're talking about a MySQL user not
a UNIX system user, maybe that's a misunderstanding here, too, as you
are asking for groups.

Bug#370453: apt-cacher: FHS: cannot recover from cleaning of /var/cache/apt-cacher

2006-06-10 Thread Thomas Girard
severity 370453 important
thanks

Tests have shown that apt-cacher fails to start if and only if
/var/cache/apt-cacher/private does not exist. It does *not* require the
exlock file to start.

But it does not work correctly if /var/cache/apt-cache/packages/ and
/var/cache/apt-cache/headers/ are missing.

I'm downgrading this bug to important ; as vorlon said on irc, restoring
directories perms on removed directories is helpful, but has never been
required before.

I'm happy to include any patches before that, if you are volunteering
;-) Some things are already prepared in the packaging.

Mohammed, thanks for your help. It's certainly valueable to have
manual pages in main. If you do want to go this way, we need
replacements for _all_ manual pages.

The second thing is to remove the gfdl'd texi files from the sources,
so that the package still builds. The idea is to replace these files
with dummy content, such that the build still succeds and the Makefile
don't have to be patched. The files in question are in:

  gcc/doc/*
  gcc/doc/include/*
  gcc/gfortran/gfortran.texi
  gcc/java/gcj.texi
  gcc/ada/gnat-style.texi
  gcc/ada/gnat_rm.texi
  gcc/ada/gnat_ugn.texi
  gcc/fortran/invoke.texi
  gcc/fortran/intrinsic.texi
  gcc/fortran/gfortran.texi
  gcc/treelang/treelang.texi
  libstdc++-v3/docs/html/17_intro/porting.texi
  libiberty/*.texi

Most of the files in gcc/doc/, gcc/doc/include/, libiberty/ can be
replaced by en empty file (or better having just a comment). The man
pages are generated from some texi files, so there must be some
infrastructure kept (see gcc/java/gcj.texi to start with the worst
one). Of course you could write your new manual pages as texi
documents as well.

A patch should be a tarball of all these new files.

  Matthias

Actually I hadn't been consistent. I'd fill in the server
name (as an IP address) and some of other details (variably
share, folder, username).

I have just tried filling in just the server name, both with
a valid address and some bogus characters. Both result in
the same problem.

Thanks again. Sorry to ask you a lot of questions, but
this bug is quite hairy and I can't reproduce it.

That's not a problem: Thanks for your help in trying to
solve this issue.

Which GTK+ theme are you using? Does the bug happen when
using another theme (clearlooks or industrial, for
 example)?

(checks) Mist from gtk2-engines-mist 2.6.8-1. I've just
created a temp user and reproduced the problem there with
the default theme which is (checks) clearlooks 2.6.8-1. I
tried changing the theme to simple, no change :(

I've tried the other connection-types (SSH,FTP) and they are
working OK, so it is just the windows share option.

the attached patch makes configure look for X.h in /usr/include/X11

x11proto-core-dev.
(I didn't include the patch to configure itself, so you need to run

Bug#372577: python-json: py2.3.egg-info directory is installed into /var/lib/python-support/python2.4

2006-06-10 Thread Max Bowsher
Package: python-json
Version: 3.4-1
Severity: normal

Installing python-json causes the directory
/var/lib/python-support/python2.4/json_py-3.4-py2.3.egg-info to be
created. Note the mismatch between python versions in the containing
directory, and the egg-info name.

This creates issues for the use of json-py under Python 2.4.

Whilst pkg_resources.require() tolerates this, and still finds the
json-py egg, setuptools' easy_install does *not* find it, because it
performs filtering based on Python version declared in egg filenames.

The elementtree, kid, and python-cherrypy packages rename the egg-info
directory to remove the -py2.X tag, avoiding this problem.

I can't reproduce it here, on my ppc with a just updated pbuilder. The
arch used, version of gcc and the build toolchain would be useful.

Here it is:
Kernel: Linux 2.6.16-xen i386 (i686)
Toolchain package versions: libc6-dev_2.3.6-15
linux-kernel-headers_2.6.13+0rc3-2.1 gcc-4.1_4.1.1-2 g++-4.1_4.1.1-2
binutils_2.16.1cvs20060413-1 libstdc++6-4.1-dev_4.1.1-2
libstdc++6_4.1.1-2

Should be the same with my pbuilder (except kernel which is 2.6.16 stock
kernel from Debian).

Cheers,

Bug#372578: also check debian/rules for bashisms

2006-06-10 Thread Bas Zoetekouw
Package: lintian
Version: 1.23.19
Severity: wishlist

I just got a FTBFS report for one or my packages, which uses brace
expansion in debian/rules:

 install -m0644 exscalibar-1.0.4/src/{geddei,qtextra,remote/rgeddei}/*.a \
   /build/buildd/exscalibar-1.0.4/debian/tmp/usr/lib
 install: cannot stat
 `exscalibar-1.0.4/src/{geddei,qtextra,remote/rgeddei}/*.a': No such file or
 directory
 make: *** [install-arch] Error 1

It would be nice if lintian could check for those. I'm not sure if
the problem is that makefiles like debian/rules are not checked for
bashisms, or that {}-expansion is not detected as a bashism yet (or
possibly both).

Bug#372581: libgnomevfs2-common [libvfolder-desktop]: keywords in comment break *.desktop parser

2006-06-10 Thread Nikolaus Schulz
Package: libgnomevfs2-common
Version: 2.8.4-4
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi!

This is probably sarge-only, see below. If you take a *.desktop file
and put the 'Categories' keyword into a comment *before* the real
'Categories' keyword, this program disappears from the GNOME menu.
Here's a little shell script demonstrating the problem.

script
#!/bin/sh

PROG=mozilla-firefox

ed -s /usr/share/applications/$PROG.desktop EOF
/Categories/i
# BUG triggered by 'Categories' keyword in comment
.
wq
EOF

echo Magic! $PROG's gone from the menu!
echo Hit a key to restore it.
read -n 1 DUMMY

ed -s /usr/share/applications/$PROG.desktop EOF
/^# BUG trigg/d
wq
EOF
echo Pheew! It's back.
/script

I've attached a patch fixing this for Sarge, ready to be dropped
into debian/patches. I'd say the breaking code generally looks bad, but
at least the patch fixes this particular problem.

AFAIUI libvfolder-desktop has been dropped in favour of
libgnome-desktop as of Gnome 2.10. I haven't tested Gnome in
testing/unstable, but the problem didn't appear in Ubuntu Breezy, that
is Gnome 2.12.

HAND,
Nikolaus

Even with the attached rc.firewall customized to allow mDNS,
guarddog generated /etc/rc.firewall blocks port 5353.

If you create a user-defined protocol with guarddog, it will allow the
specified ports to be used to/from you machines IP (or the created

Can you please use your attached rc.firewall and enable logging, and
then pass me the kernel/firewall logs from attempts to use
zeroconf/avahi with the guarddog firewall?

Bug#351385: balsa: 2.3.8 is buggy and obsolete in Etch

2006-06-10 Thread Pierre Morin
Hello Peter !

I see an XMailer balsa 2.3.12 in your message. I'd
like to know how you got it since even unstable has
still 2.3.8 with bug 351385.

Have you used an external/contrib repository ?
Have you compiled from source ? How ?

Whatever way you have used, I think it would be cool
to show a way to put an updated Balsa into Etch. Are
NMU for that ?

Or maybe you forged the header ?-)

Bug#370817: Not only usb printers

2006-06-10 Thread Tobias Frost
severity 370817 grave
thanks

(Please appologize the severity, but I think it is not a good idea to
let this pacakge in testing without resolving this issue)

Also my printer (Espon Stylus 640) stopped working.
There is no error message in the logs.
(Just backend failed with status 1)

I did not change the configuration.

Adding the printer also failed, it is mis-detected as both CANON and
EPSON on the same parallel port.

However, even if adding the printer with manually selecting the ppd
file, this won't help

Unless I am mistaken, there was a Debian General Resolution lately
that allows GFDL'd documents in main, provided they have no
front-cover text, no back-cover text and no invariants. I am
concerned that wholesale deletion of all documentation from the GCC
package is a disservice to users. Should we not rather assess each

Ok, I tried to make US happy. I attached a small patch that seems to do
the work. I do not know whether it works in any case, but it worked for
all of my tests.

Please note, that I have virtually no experience with Perl, so there is
probably a much more elegant/efficient way to do this.

I could not reproduce your bug on my ARCH=i386 system.

The log you provided shows a read on file descriptor number 3, but the
last returned file descriptor with number 3 is from this:
 open(/etc/mozilla/mozillarc, O_RDONLY|O_LARGEFILE) = 3
 fstat64(3, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=152, ...}) = 0
 read(3, # This file was generated by deb..., 152) = 152

Could you please attach a full strace produced with strace -f -e

(Downgrading as it is unreproducible here and for three other persons
sitting next to me and nobody else reported this.)

All of them actually front and back cover texts, as far as I am reading
right now in the texi files.

Don't forget the documentation will be available in non-free as soon as
a package is ready.

And don't be afraid, we won't be throwing out of main DFSG free

for some reason the files were removed from CVS upstream, yet shipped
with the 1.10.1 release tarballs. Therefore we've put 1.10.1.dfsg
without them. However, upstream reckons that they *will* be not shipping
with the next update (whenever that'll happen), so that's when we'll be
back with the real orig.tar.gz.

For now, the update (1.10.1.dfsg-1) is in incoming as it was uploaded
yesterday after dinstall time.

Building without pfmon-2.0 works fine.

However I don't know which behaviour is expected.

Executing the parallel backend:
% ./parallel --help
Usage: parallel job-id user title copies options [file]

If this is not Debian-specific, then I really wonder how much QA is done on
CUPS releases upstream...

I tried recreating a printer from scratch, same result.

The parallel backend works OK when run by hand with the right command line
arguments (surprisingly, sigh.).
