Bug#357588: Test case required

2006-10-05 Thread Daniel 'NebuchadnezzaR' Dehennin
Le 4782 Septembre 1993, Sylvain Le Gall a tapoté:
 Hello,

Hello,

I am trying to reproduce the bug you desrcribe in
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=357588.

But i don't use unicode in my term, so i am not really aware of what
 should be done !

Could you give me some hints on how to state the presence of the bug ?

(maybe a vt-is-UTF8 command or something similar),

Well, just enable UTF-8 in /etc/environment:
LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8

/etc/init.d/console-screen.sh will setup your console in UTF-8 at boot
time.

At login time (with fbgetty), accents work fine, but when logged in I
must use unicode-start to make the console unicode again (accents
became curious glyphs)

I haven't the problem with getty.

Regards.

Bug#388475: xulrunner: FTBFS on GNU/kFreeBSD

 Hi,

the current version fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD.
Please find attached patch to fix that.

 It adds
  * 18_kbsd_nsprpub.dpatch - port of nsprpub for kfreebsd-i386,
already merged upstream
  * 88_kbsd.dpatch - port of xulrunner for kfreebsd-i386,
mainly changes selected defined(LINUX) into
defined(LINUX) || defined(__GLIBC__)

and list them in 00list, updates 99_configure.dpatch.

It would be nice if it could be included in the next upload.

I forgot to send some feedback here, sorry.
The 18_kbsd_nsprpub.dpatch part seems fine, but I don't get some of the
changes of the 88_kbsd.dpatch, nor why they have to be debian specific.

Mike

Bug#391136: conflicts with texlive

2006-10-05 Thread Jack Bates
Package: maxima-emacs
Version: 5.10.0-1

maxima-emacs depends on tetex-extra, which can't be installed alongside
texlive. However texlive should satisfy the dependency. I wish I could
install both maxima-emacs and texlive.

Thanks - Jack

Bug#381389: Reproduceable, and not smart-notifier's fault

 Yeah, I get the same.

I guess now the bug should be sent back to smart-notifier to be fixed
 with an updated build dependency.

Yes but it doesn't bring much as the 5.0.37.2 version is nowhere (and thus not
on
buildd). But you should at least rebuild the package with a current
debhelper to fix #383099.

Bug#391115: [Pkg-sysvinit-devel] Bug#391115: While upgrading to 2.86.ds1-31 mount error and exit status 32

2006-10-05 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Boniforti Flavio]
 Any help about this issue?

I suspect you are using a kernel without tmpfs support. This will
break the system in subtle ways. The oldest and most obvious way is
probably that POSIX shared memory functions will fail as /dev/shm/ is
not a tmpfs, and a recent addition is the /lib/init/rw/ mount point
just introduced to make sure the early boot system have a writable
area to store state information when the coldplug hardware events
arrive before the root file system is checked and mounted read-write.

I am a bit confused, though, because in version 2.86.ds1-30 a test to
check if tmpfs was supposed was added to the postinst (grep -E -qs
tmpfs\$ /proc/filesystems), and I expected this to avoid the upgrade
problem. Can you tell me the output from that command on your system?

Friendly,

Bug#391150: Want personalized menus (that means Start menu only shows what you use and rest is hidden)

2006-10-05 Thread Jason Spiro

Package: kde
Severity: wishlist

It would be great if KDE provided personalized menus just like in
Windows 2000 (http://www.activewin.com/tips/win2000/1/2000_tips_9.shtml).
In short, this means that after you've used the Start menu enough, the
menu collapses to only show the items you use. The items you never use
are hidden. When you click the little arrow at the bottom of the menu,
or when you wait 5 seconds, the hidden items are shown.

Do you also think this would be a nice option to have?

Jason Spiro

Bug#388967: suphp-common: [annoying_notes] Abuse of debconf note(s)

2006-10-05 Thread Christian Perrier
  As announced in
  http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/09/msg00630.html, this bug
report is part of a mass bug filing campaign about the abuse of
  debconf templates of type note.

Can you help me on this, I've already done some changes in the past
(#324635). This note seems really important for me and is only displayed
 during an upgrade from 0.6.0-1.

What is the version in sarge?

If the note is about warning users for possible problems, you might
consider turning it into an error template...of course, only after
appropriate checks in the config file. What is the current code to
display it?

Also, what is the current wording of the template (I'm not online now
so can't download the source to check)?

Bug#391149: Standard license agreement page should say Next instead of I Agree

2006-10-05 Thread Jason Spiro

Package: nsis
Version: 2.06-3

I am involved with a project which uses NSIS to produce a Windows
installer. The standard MUI license agreement page
(http://nsis.sourceforge.net/File:NSISScreenshot2.png) says:

==
License Agreement
...
blah
...

If you accept the terms of the agreement, click I Agree to continue.
You must accept the terms of the agreement to install $APP_NAME.

[ Back ] [ I Agree ] [ Cancel ]
==

IMO, this is probably confusing for ultra-newbies. I define
ultra-newbies as people who don't read anything onscreen and all do
is look for a Next button and click it.

I think that an easier page for such people to use would be as follows:

==
License Agreement
...
blah
...

Click the Next button if you accept the agreement above. You must
accept the agreement to install $APP_NAME.

[ Back ] [ Next ] [ Cancel ]
==

What do you think?

Cheers,
Jason Spiro

There were remnants of four: tetex-base tetex-bin tetex-doc tetex-extra

However, after purging the problem with installing [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Norbert suggested to delete /etc/texmf/fmt.d/00tex.cnf and

Bug#385878: k3bsetup; cdrecord - wodim transition

2006-10-05 Thread Mark Robinson
Given that cdrecord has been replaced by wodim, perhaps we should be talking
about wodim instead. If we are already looking at wodim per

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=390083
then references in the dialogues need to be patched as well.

At the moment k3bsetup is asking for my root password and then telling me it's
not right. In the past it appeared to succeed with the su, but still failed to
actually change the permissions on /usr/bin/cdrecord.

Setting /usr/bin/wodim suid stops k3b from trying to fire up k3bsetup, but it
doesn't find the drive, and is thus unusable. Gnomebaker seems to be working fine.

I argue against removing k3bsetup as most, especially new, users will have
trouble adding themselves to the cdrom group, let alone finding out that they
need to. Perhaps k3bsetup could, perhaps optionally, add the user to the cdrom
group instead of setting suid on the binaries.

k3b Version: 0.12.17-2+b1
wodim Version: 5:1.0~pre4-1.1

Bug#391122: initscripts: df shows `/dev/.static/dev': Permission denied

2006-10-05 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Atsuhito KOHDA]
Hi, I'm not so sure if this is really a bug of initscripts but
I got the following message every time I did df

 df: `/dev/.static/dev': Permission denied

This is probably the result of either of the directories being
inaccessable for the user running df. Can you try this:

  ls -ld /dev /dev/.static /dev/.static/dev

It should pinpoint which directory point is blocking df from accessing
the mount point. I suspect it is the /dev/.static directory.

I hadn't noticed this myself, but this is a good reason to avoid
listing the mount point /dev/.static/dev in /etc/mtab.

In an effort to load the xen hypervisor with pxelinux.0, I found
that the file mboot.c32 (and others) is missing from the Debian
package. Since this works (I downloaded the original source from
zytor.com) straight out of the box (what says something about
the quality of the packages created by the kernel and syslinux
maintainers) it would be nice to have this file in the Debian

I got this file from Debian in stead of I downloaded it from

I know that the preinst script looks for such files but it doesn't do
anything with them i think. After manually removal of these two files
the update goes like a charm.

Maybe it results from the empty debconf entry

This bug is still present in latest wodim in testing.

Well, well, well, then we should try to isolate the trouble maker.

Please report which USB middleware you are using (lsusb).

Could you borrow another USB case somewhere and try with that? Because I
can burn CDs without any problems with wodim and the cheapest noname USB
  adapter here.

Can you reproduce the problem with kernel 2.4.x kernels?

After further testing (and a little more patience) I can report that
this bug _is_ resolved in the latest wodim. I have to wait 40 seconds
for the burn process to start, but after the 40 seconds everything works
 as expected.

Thank you. However I don't think it is really resolved. Something still
goes wrong in the communication between wodim and the kernel, otherwise
we would not have to wait so long.

What happens if you attach this drive to the IDE bus directly? Maybe it
is a drive failure. Or maybe a wodim/cdrecord problem, independent from
the kernel.

I hope on your help.

Eduard.

Bug#391155: debconf: Fake bug to collect l10n updates after unbranding

This bug will collect all translation updates after the debconf strings
changes due to the unbranding done by Joey on Oct 4th. This is an attempt to
avoid multiple bug reports opened to fix only one string (which needs to

Bug#391156: wodim: can't write a cdrom anymore

2006-10-05 Thread Jörgen Hägg
Package: wodim
Version: 5:1.0~pre4-1.1
Severity: normal

I've tried to burn a cdrom using wodim, but I get an error almost
right away or after burning for a short while. This burner has worked
fine with earlier versions of cdrecord for a couple of months ago
when I last used it.

I tried to compile the last version of the old cdrecord, but there
seems to be problem with that also, could also be that xcdroast
gives wodim specific parameters, I don't know.

The same problem occurred on an i386-based laptop so I don't think it is
a hardware problem, even if wodim/cdrecord tells me so.
I've tried with different discs and different iso-files.

Here is the debug output:

Calling: /usr/lib/xcdroast/bin/xcdrwrap CDRECORD dev= /dev/hdc gracetime=2
fs=4096k driveropts=burnfree -v -useinfo speed=0 -dao -eject -pad -data
/n/debian_cd/grml_0.6.iso ...

This is wodim, not cdrecord. Don't expect it to behave like cdrecord in any
way, don't refer to it as cdrecord. Send problem reports to
[EMAIL PROTECTED], don't bother Joerg Schilling with any
problems caused by this application.

Bug#391071: partman-auto-crypto: No confirmation before hard-drive wiping

2006-10-05 Thread David Härdeman
On Thu, October 5, 2006 2:07, Frans Pop said:
I personally would prefer to consistently delay disk selection to a second
level in _all_ cases and explain what the next step will be in the
 description; something like:

 example
...
Automatic - use the largest continuous free space
  Automatic - erase entire disk
Automatic - erase entire disk and set up LVM
Automatic - erase entire disk and set up encrypted LVM
  Manual
 /example

Strange, it sounds familiar...oh yes...it's what I've been suggesting all
along [1]. So I think its safe to say that we fully agree.

I can whip up a patch or two once I have confirmation that this is the
final decision on this issue.

This may need to be revised again when we can offer RAID1, but that
depends on the implementation and could probably be solved by mentioning
 that option in the description.

In which way would the scheme need to change for RAID1?

It would probably be a could idea to repeat the fact that existing data
will be erased after selecting a method that does and we need to add an
extra confirmation dialog before the partition table is written when
 using LVM anyway (see #368633).

Yup

BTW. I also noticed that with Use the largest continuous free space
there is currently no indication of what disk will actually be used or
how big the free space is. It is of course kind of implied (whichever
disk has the largest free space), but IMO it would be kind of nice to
tell the user before it is done.

Perhaps we should add the select disk dialogue to the Use the largest
continuous free space choice as well...with the modification that we only
present disks with free space?

Bug#390514: [Pkg-cryptsetup-devel] Bug#390514: cryptsetup doesn't work with SSL encrypted keys

2006-10-05 Thread David Härdeman
On Sun, October 1, 2006 18:29, Stephan Seitz said:
I used the script /usr/share/doc/cryptsetup/examples/gen-ssl-key to
generate a encrypted key, decrypted it and added it with luksAddKey.
Then I changed /etc/crypttab to the path of SSL encrypted key and added
the keyword ssl. But /etc/init.d/cryptdisks couldn’t activate the
 partition.

It should hopefully be able to do so if you use the option
keyscript=/lib/cryptsetup/scripts/decrypt_ssl instead of just ssl, more
explanation below.

 1. The function decrypt_ssl is available in
 /lib/cryptsetup/cryptdisks.functions as well as in
/lib/cryptsetup/scripts/decrypt_ssl. It seems, the first is used.
 Both functions are different.

 2. The function in /lib/cryptsetup/cryptdisks.functions begins like the
other one, but then asks for a second passphrase to decrypt the
previously decrypted key. This contradicts with gen-ssl-key which only
uses one passphrase. I’ve changed the function to only ask for one
passphrase like in /lib/cryptsetup/scripts/decrypt_ssl (see patch).

Actually the key decryption stuff is in a bit of flux. The keyscript
option is a recent addition to the /etc/crypttab file, and it is going to
deprecate both the ssl and gpg options.

Now, there is a decrypt_ssl script already in /lib/cryptsetup/scripts/,
but it uses a different method compared to what the old ssl option did
(the old method wasn't very good btw). I've already committed some changes
to cryptsetup SVN repo which adds a decrypt_old_ssl script (which works
like the old ssl option) in addition to decrypt_ssl.

For now, I'd suggest you either: wait for the new release, help test the
SVN version (once I've had time to do some more work on it), or use the
keyscript option in /etc/crypttab instead of the ssl option.

 3. Neither decrypt_ssl (nor decrypt_gpg) are protecting the passphrase
against spaces by using quotation marks (see patch).

I'll make sure its fixed in the /lib/cryptsetup/scripts/...

 4. You are using „read -s” to read the passphrase from the command
 line
(silent mode), but the option -s only works with bash. If /bin/sh is
linked to dash, it doesn’t work. I had to change /etc/init./cryptdisks
 to
 use /bin/bash instead of /bin/sh.

I'll take a look at it

 5. Now it works. The next step would be solving the problem how a normal
user could use cryptsetup to activiate a encrypted partition or an
 encrypted removable device.

I think Gnome already has support for mounting luks-encrypted removable
storage (e.g. USB keys). The gnome-volume-manager changelog suggests its
been available since the beginning of this year.

Bug#391094: packaging errors remove old apache2 but prevent install of apache2.2

2006-10-05 Thread David Paleino
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi Moshe,
it's not that serious problem.
You can solve by simply doing a:

# dpkg --force-overwrite -i
/var/cache/apt/archives/apache2.2-common_2.2.3-1_i386.deb

That should work.

Secondly, the package apache2.2 doesn't appear because it simply does
not exist. It's apache2 with version 2.2.3-1.

And, by the way, you are lucky you had only this problem: in fact, I
can't use PHP, because there's not a libapache2-mod-php5 for this
version of apache (just upgraded today). But that's another question.

Cheers,
David

Package: firefox

It would be great if Firefox provided personalized menus just like
Microsoft Office 2000 did. In short, this means that after you've used
the menus enough, they collapse to only show the items you use. The
items you never use are hidden. When you click the little arrow at the
bottom of any menu, or when you wait 5 seconds, the hidden items are
shown.

Do you also think this would be a nice option to have?

So by default on my box it adds reports in Polish cause that's what I use
on my machine.

/etc/init.d/spamassassin restart

If you have locale settings set to let's say Spanish it'll send you reports
in Spanish.

LANG=C /etc/init.d/spamassassin restart will send them in English.

I think it would be useful to have locale settings in
/etc/default/spamassassin.

under some (unknown) circumstances, runit(8) retains a controlling tty:

USER PID %CPU %MEMVSZ RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND
root 1 0.0 0.010420 tty1 Ss+ 09:07 0:00 runit

This has the important side effect that the getty-1 service is unable to set
its own controlling tty to tty1, and that pressing ctrl-c in the login shell
started by getty-1 will deliver the SIGINT to runit so that a ctrl-alt-del
event is triggered.

This doesn't happen on all computers I run runit on, but it happened on at
least two (one amd64, one i386). Both run runit 1.6.0-1.

I guess replacing /sbin/init with a shell script that does exec chpst -P
runit-init might be a workaround, but I'd be happier if this weren't
necessary. :)

runit depends on no packages.

Versions of packages runit recommends:
pn fgettynone (no description available)

Bug#391079: It would be nice if the 'q' key and/or the Esc key quit Orpie.

It is, but 'q' would be even easier. And 'q' would be easy to
implement - you just add one line to orpie-1.4.3/orpierc.
You actually could do it yourself in ~/.orpierc, though I haven't tried
it. I suppose it was the intention of the author of orpie not to use
'q' for imediate quit.

Bug#391048: jabref shows a blank window under compiz

 I can verify this behaviour.
Another strange thing: Moving this gray Window needs 100% of the CPU
while moving a normal Windows doesn't really stress the CPU.

Which process hogs the CPU?

Curiously, if I first start Jabref and then compiz with the --replace
  option, it works fine.

If you terminate compiz and restart another WM the gray Windows
disappears and the UI is shown as normal

Still, given that it works if compiz is started after the app, why do
you think this is an issue in compiz?

gah, forgot about the epoch. i knew about the version not existing, but
that was the upstream version it was fixed in, and i was curious to see
if the version tracking would accept that and round it down to the
nearest real version or not...

Bug#391172: gnomermind: Help does not open help file.

2006-10-05 Thread Andreas Krüger
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: gnomermind
Version: 1.0.1-7
Severity: normal

I open up gnomermind, click on Hilfe (German for Help) and then on
GnomerMind/Help.

Expected behaviour: Help pops up.

Actual behaviour: A window pops up, telling me

»ghelp:///usr/share/gnome/help/gnomermind/C/index.html« ist kein gültiger Ort.

retranslated from German to English:

ghelp:///usr/share/gnome/help/gnomermind/C/index.html
is not a valid place.

Oddly enough, typing, into a terminal window,

gnome-help ghelp:///usr/share/gnome/help/gnomermind/C/index.html

does open the help file all right.

Regards, and thank you for providing fine software

Bug#391122: initscripts: df shows `/dev/.static/dev': Permission denied

Hi, I'm not so sure if this is really a bug of initscripts but

  df: `/dev/.static/dev': Permission denied

This is probably the result of either of the directories being
inaccessable for the user running df. Can you try this:

   ls -ld /dev /dev/.static /dev/.static/dev

It should pinpoint which directory point is blocking df from accessing
the mount point. I suspect it is the /dev/.static directory.

As a normal user (LANG=C to avoid Japanese message);
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ LANG=C ls -ld /dev /dev/.static /dev/.static/dev
/bin/ls: /dev/.static/dev: Permission denied
drwxr-xr-x 12 root root 3900 Oct 5 09:42 /dev/

and as a root;
ferio:/home/kohda# LANG=C ls -ld /dev /dev/.static /dev/.static/dev
drwxr-xr-x 12 root root 3900 Oct 5 09:42 /dev
drwx-- 3 root root60 Oct 5 2006 /dev/.static
drwxr-xr-x 13 root root 28672 Oct 4 08:12 /dev/.static/dev

so, as you suspected, /dev/.static was blocking df.

However, on my another system of testing, it seems the
permissions are the same as those of unstable;

capa:/home/kohda# LANG=C ls -ld /dev /dev/.static /dev/.static/dev
drwxr-xr-x 14 root root 13560 Oct 5 09:43 /dev
drwx-- 3 root root60 Sep 25 16:49 /dev/.static
drwxr-xr-x 13 root root 28672 Oct 2 15:55 /dev/.static/dev

but df works fine!

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ LANG=C df
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on

/dev/sda4 21971976 5083284 15772580 25% /home

I hadn't noticed this myself, but this is a good reason to avoid
listing the mount point /dev/.static/dev in /etc/mtab.

It might be so. If you need any other information, please
let me know. Thanks for your rapid reply.

Bug#391171: ITP: grepcidr -- Filter IP addresses matching IPv4 CIDR/network

2006-10-05 Thread Ryan Finnie
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Ryan Finnie [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: grepcidr
  Version : 1.3
Upstream Author : Jem Berkes [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.pc-tools.net/unix/grepcidr/
* License : GPLv2
  Programming Lang: C
Description : Filter IP addresses matching IPv4 CIDR/network
specification

grepcidr can be used to filter a list of IP addresses against one or
more Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR) specifications, or arbitrary
networks specified by an address range. As with grep, there are options
to invert matching and load patterns from a file. grepcidr is capable of
comparing thousands or even millions of IPs to networks with little
memory usage and in reasonable computation time.

grepcidr has endless uses in network software, including: mail filtering
and processing, network security, log analysis, and many custom
applications.

Bug#382861: Updating Sarge teTeX to etch/sid TeX live ... help

2006-10-05 Thread Frank Küster
Gernot Salzer [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

I followed Norbert's/Frank's advice and purged all tetex packages.
 There were remnants of four: tetex-base tetex-bin tetex-doc tetex-extra
 all version 3.0

However, after purging the problem with installing [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 remained the same.

Norbert suggested to delete /etc/texmf/fmt.d/00tex.cnf and
 run update-fmtutil:
 update-fmtutil: cannot read /etc/texmf/fmt.d/00tex.cnf

I don't think this was a good advice (or maybe he meant 00tetex.cnf?
01tetex.cnf?

So it seems I have to wait for further suggestions or texlive
 versions before installation succeeds.

First of all, you need a 00tex.cnf. I attach one. Second, the
attachments you made in the other mail show that it is 99postinst.cnf
that causes your continued problems. Quoting from it:

#
#
# /etc/texmf/fmt.d/99postinst.cnf
#
# This file has been generated by tetex-bin's postinst script.
# teTeX no longer uses /etc/texmf/fmtutil.cnf for its configuration,
# but rather a file in /var/lib/texmf/web2c that is generated from
# configuration files in /etc/texmf/fmt.d.
#
# The postinst script detected that your old fmtutil.cnf contained
# lines that you seem to have added manually. In order to include those
# lines in the generated file, they have been extracted to this file,
# /etc/texmf/fmt.d/99postinst.cnf.
#
# You can add changes here, or in a new file in this directory, see
# the manpage of /usr/sbin/update-fmtutil(8). Note that if there are two entries
# for a format, the second wins - because this file has number 99,
# it's entries will always be last
#
#

And the non-commented entries in it are:

mf mf - mf.ini
mfw mfw - mf.ini
pdftex pdftex language.datpdftex.ini
omega omega language.datomega.ini

All these entries for mfw and mf come from teTeX in woody. In other
words, during the upgrade from woody to sarge, you have chosen to keep
the settings for these four formats at their old values.

So this part of the bug seems to be not a bug, but a particular local
configuration. You can safely delete 99postinst.cnf, after that texlive
should configure fine.

Check with some other program that need GL/3D support (like xt) and see

Yes I know that lightspeed needs GL and yes, celestia, which uses GL,

What I meant is that I don't think that X server configuration is the

Bug#391175: mozilla-thunderbird: line-wrapping limit changeable on the fly

2006-10-05 Thread Andreas Krüger
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: mozilla-thunderbird
Version: 1.0.2-2.sarge1.0.8b.2
Severity: wishlist

Thunderbird mail composition has the very usefull feature of wrapping lines
after, e.g., 75 characters. I suggest it should be possible to change the
number of characters on the fly, after already having started to compose
the message.

For me, 75 characters is usually just what I want. A noteable exception
being when I write Debian bug tracking messages, such as this.

This message was composed mainly by a copy-and-paste operation of some
text, that has been generated under control of the reportbug programm.

If you scroll further down, you can see it has some lines describing this
system and setup. Those lines have been wrapped in the paste process, but
should not have been.

As a workaround, I can save the message, change the wrapping for all
messages, and reopen the message, and repeat the paste.

Regards, and thank you for providing fine software

Bug#391176: hybserv: Hybserv blocks apt-get during upgrade

2006-10-05 Thread Arnaud Guiton
Package: hybserv
Version: 1.9.2-2
Severity: important

Hello !

While upgrading from 1.9.2-1 to 1.9.2-2, Hybserv hanged, blocking apt-get. I
got the following output :

--
Preparing to replace hybserv 1.9.2-1 (using .../hybserv_1.9.2-2_i386.deb)
...
Stopping Hybserv 2 IRC Services: hybserv.
Unpacking replacement hybserv ...
Setting up hybserv (1.9.2-2) ...
Installing new version of config file /etc/init.d/hybserv ...
Starting Hybserv 2 IRC Services: hybserv.
--

Hybserv was correctly restarted (I had working services), but it did not let
apt-get continue.
I had to kill apt-get (^C) to have my shell back. Running apt-get install
hybserv finished the upgrade.

Fortunately the upgrade only involved Hybserv, so no other daemon was
impacted, but other daemons could have been stopped by apt-get (before
Hybserv upgrade) and not restarted. I thus tagged the bug 'important'.

I could also reproduce the bug on two different machines.

Cheers,

Bug#391165: runit retains a controlling tty; ctrl-c on tty1 reboots/halts system

Hi Andras, can you please check the kernel versions on the affected
systems? I've reports that this problem happens with some 2.6 kernel
versions, most probably starting with some minor version.

I didn't start to track it down yet.

Thanks, Gerrit.

CRAIL (n. mineral)
Crail is a common kind of rock or gravel found widely across the
British Isles. Each individual stone (due to an as yet undiscovered
gravitational property) is charged with 'negative buoyancy'. This
means that no matter how much crail you remove from the garden, more
of it will rise to the surface. Crail is much employed by the Royal
Navy for making the paperweights and ashtrays used inside submarines.

Bug#382861: Updating Sarge teTeX to etch/sid TeX live ... help

2006-10-05 Thread Gernot Salzer
Norbert suggested to delete /etc/texmf/fmt.d/00tex.cnf and

  update-fmtutil: cannot read /etc/texmf/fmt.d/00tex.cnf

I don't think this was a good advice (or maybe he meant 00tetex.cnf?
 01tetex.cnf?

I suppose he meant 00tetex.cnf, so any stupidity is my fault, not his.

Since I had no 00tetex.cnf and I wasn't sure which file Norbert meant,
I moved 00tex.cnf away, ran update-fmtutil, and then moved 00tex.cnf
back. Just to make sure that this doesn't solve the problem.

So no harm done by this check.

First of all, you need a 00tex.cnf.

Thanks, very kind of you.

  I attach one. Second, the
attachments you made in the other mail show that it is 99postinst.cnf
 that causes your continued problems.

Thanks, this solved the problem.

All these entries for mfw and mf come from teTeX in woody. In other
words, during the upgrade from woody to sarge, you have chosen to keep
the settings for these four formats at their old values.

Not knowingly. As a user I have no idea to which settings the
setup program is referring, and of course I want to keep my
formats. If you see a message like this, then you assume that
the installation is aware of the installed formats and
programs and will upgrade them, but you wouldn't expect
that the installation procedure takes an old configuration
file and tries to build the formats regardless of whether
the programs/formats are installed or not.

So this part of the bug seems to be not a bug, but a particular local
configuration. You can safely delete 99postinst.cnf, after that texlive
 should configure fine.

In my opinion it is a bug of tetex to leave a configuration file
behind that refers to non-installed programs (the list of formats is
no user setting but internal bookkeeping),
and it is a bug of texlive (at least of its transition
capabilities) to pay attention to this file.

I'm not sure whether there is an easy way to avoid this trap
without breaking something else, but I'm sure that there
will be more people like me having an old 99postinst.cnf:
In my case, I never wanted to install tetex, neither on woody
nor on sarge. But because of dependencies, some tetex-packages
were installed nevertheless, and then afterwards deleted
and even purged by me, but this file remained. So perhaps
texlive installation should try to cope with this particular
situation, e.g. by renaming or deleting 99postinst.sh
(with some heuristic checks of the contents).

Thanks a lot for your help,

Gernot

Bug#384233: reply

2006-10-05 Thread Alexander Gerasiov
Package: mediawiki1.7
Followup-For: Bug #384233

Hmm... Didn't receive messages from that tread, only the last one %) Or
I miss them =\

Ok, that was upgrade from 1.5. During the upgrade something was wrong
(as I remember, I had to manually do some database upgrade) and after
all I found this file.

If you had time, check (test) upgrade procedure from 1.5 to 1.7 to be sure that
this file won't be created.

Regards, Alexander.

Bug#390695: linux-image-2.6.18-1-686: weird messages upon loading the CD-ROM driver[1~

I will, but it will be my first one (in the .deb). And i don't know
how it will run, because i must cross compile on x86-64.
Anyway, lets see what will happen ;)

Generally with such (hardware driver) errors, i whouldn't suggest to
dpkg install/uninstall care stuff. Just kernel with some modules in
initramfs, without even mounting any _important_ file systems, like
/root or others.

Having flash stick with GRUB helps with such testing, all you need is
just to copy tested stuff on it, and have menu item for it, and run

BTW, if any of initramfs-tools developers see this, i would suggest to add
shell execution, if debug option is in cmdline, like this:

/usr/share/initramfs-tools/init:
[]
debug)
debug=y
exec /tmp/initramfs.debug 21
echo Type C-d to continue booting...
set -x
/bin/sh
here-  ;;
[]

Having done all one might need, C-d and boot is countinueing. (maybe there
are other options, i don't know ;)

But, Hilmar. If you do not feel comfortable in debug environment, better
not to try...

 The directory is called /var/log/installer.
I seriously doubt that /target/var/log/ being on a separate partition

Please check if the installer directory is there if you unmount /var/log.

Package: apt-listbugs
Version: 0.0.58
Severity: important

Usually works just fine. Every few runs, get:
E: Sub-process if dpkg -s apt-listbugs | grep -q '^Status: .* ok installed';
then /usr/sbin/apt-listbugs apt || ( test $? -ne 10 || exit 10; echo

echo 'Warning: apt-listbugs exited abnormally, hit enter key to continue.'
12 ; read a /dev/tty ); fi

Since I was being run through kpackage which has a terminal window which is
not 100%, no opportunity to hit enter key to continue. Then again, the
message is on very long lines and do not even see this prompt.

Sometimes a reload in kpackage will fix it. Restarting kpackage most
always fixes it.

Note that reportbug reported that 0.58 is more recent than Sid. I got it
from Sid.

Well, I cannot reproduce it, but I believe you. I suppose this has to
do with #389439. I will upload hybserv 1.9.2-3 today and I strongly
think it will fix this.

Bug#391182: debian-installer: Impossible to boot linux 2.6 i386 image on Opteron (daily build 3 oct 2006 and d-i rc3 with 2.6 kernel)

2006-10-05 Thread Pierre Machard
Package: debian-installer
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

Yesterday I installed an opteron at work. This opteron must run in a 32 bits
environnement (binary compatibility issue). I downloaded d-i daily build
(03 oct 06) and d-i rc3 with 2.6 kernel. Once the initrd expended at boot
time, nothing happened. Hence an Opteron cannot be installed with 2.6 i386
kernels.

To fix this issue I installed an image with a 2.4 kernel (i386 d-i rc3 2.4 and
sarge installer) and booting went well.

I do not know if this issue was known or not. Feel free to downgrade the
severity
if you belive that it should not be RC. However, I guess that our users might
want to install debian 32 bits on an Opteron

Cheers,

Bug#391038: clamscan dies with ERROR: Can't get information about user clamav when run as root

2006-10-05 Thread Stephen Gran
This one time, at band camp, Graham said:
Indeed, there does not seem to be a clamav user on my system. Maybe
the clamav package should create it?

In a word, yes. I'm a little confused as to how you've ended up without
 the user, to be honest.

 I don't have the clamav-base package installed... that's how.

I had selected clamav (etch) and clamav-data (volatile) for
 installation.

Maybe clamav should depend on clamav-base?

Yes, that's probably the simplest answer. I had avoided it up to now
because I didn't think the command line scanner needed the overhead of
user creation and so forth. It looks like I was wrong.

Bug#390205: cl-statistics + SBCL: compiles but still throws an error

2006-10-05 Thread Peter Van Eynde

This is strange: cl-statistics compiles fine in CMUCL and *appears* to
compile fine in SBCL, but SBCL still throws an error.

From the log, and from experience, I guess that the error is 'compile-file
warned while'. This is a pretty irritating issue but the sbcl people claim it
is a feature, not a bug :-(.

This is because the warnings are of possibly broken code (they are not
STYLE-WARNINGS):

 ; compiling (DEFPACKAGE :STATISTICS ...);
 ; caught WARNING:
; STATISTICS also exports the following symbols:
 ; (FISHER-Z-TRANSFORM NORMAL-MEAN-CI-ON-SEQUENCE
 FALSE-DISCOVERY-CORRECTION)
 ; See also:
; The ANSI Standard, Macro DEFPACKAGE

instead of :

 ; compiling (DECLAIM (OPTIMIZE # ...))
 ; compiling (IN-PACKAGE :STATISTICS)
; compiling (DEFMACRO TEST-VARIABLES ...); in: LAMBDA NIL
 ; (LET* ((STATISTICS::DUMMY (CDR #:WHOLE60)))
 ; (BLOCK STATISTICS:TEST-VARIABLES))
 ;
 ; caught STYLE-WARNING:
; The variable DUMMY is defined but never used.

So actually there is a bug in cl-statistics :-S
