Bug#415112: linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64: kernel oops in keyring_destroy
Package: linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64 Version: 2.6.18.dfsg.1-11 Severity: important Hi, I'm running kernel 2.6.18-4-amd64 on a FujitsuSiemens RX 400 computer, equipped with 8 GB RAM. The computer is used as our file server and unfortunately, it crashed two times this week with the following kernel oops (a full dmesg output is available at ( http://www-ds.e-technik.uni-dortmund.de/~jplatte/dmesg.txt ) Unable to handle kernel paging request at 00100108 RIP: [802ec036] keyring_destroy+0x32/0x96 After posting this bug on LKML I got a reply stating that this bug is already known and a fix is available: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8067 http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7727 After the oops the computer is mostly unusable, for example samba is unable to handle any requests and it is unable to shut down and reboot properly. Therefore I'm marking this bug important. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-4-amd64 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64 depends on: ii coreutil 5.97-5.3The GNU core utilities ii debconf 1.5.11 Debian configuration management sy ii e2fsprog 1.39+1.40-WIP-2006.11.14+dfsg-2 ext2 file system utilities and lib ii initramf 0.85f tools for generating an initramfs ii module-i 3.3-pre4-2 tools for managing Linux kernel mo linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64 recommends no packages. -- debconf information: linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64/postinst/kimage-is-a-directory: linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64/postinst/bootloader-test-error-2.6.18-4-amd64: shared/kernel-image/really-run-bootloader: true linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64/preinst/lilo-initrd-2.6.18-4-amd64: true linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64/preinst/initrd-2.6.18-4-amd64: linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64/preinst/abort-overwrite-2.6.18-4-amd64: linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64/preinst/failed-to-move-modules-2.6.18-4-amd64: linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64/postinst/old-initrd-link-2.6.18-4-amd64: true linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64/postinst/depmod-error-initrd-2.6.18-4-amd64: false linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64/postinst/create-kimage-link-2.6.18-4-amd64: true linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64/preinst/lilo-has-ramdisk: linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64/postinst/old-dir-initrd-link-2.6.18-4-amd64: true linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64/postinst/depmod-error-2.6.18-4-amd64: false linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64/prerm/removing-running-kernel-2.6.18-4-amd64: true linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64/postinst/bootloader-error-2.6.18-4-amd64: linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64/postinst/old-system-map-link-2.6.18-4-amd64: true linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64/preinst/already-running-this-2.6.18-4-amd64: linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64/preinst/bootloader-initrd-2.6.18-4-amd64: true linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64/preinst/overwriting-modules-2.6.18-4-amd64: true linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64/preinst/elilo-initrd-2.6.18-4-amd64: true linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64/preinst/abort-install-2.6.18-4-amd64: linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64/prerm/would-invalidate-boot-loader-2.6.18-4-amd64: true -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#415063: zabbix: Apache check uses wrong process name
tags 415063 + upstream tags 415063 + wontfix thanks hi Steve, On Thu, Mar 15, 2007 at 03:57:07PM -0500, Steve Greenland wrote: The check described as Apache not running in the Unix_t template (and possibly elsewhere) uses proc_num[httpd]; for Debian, it should be proc_num[apache]. You might also consider checks for apache2, apache-ssl, and apache-perl. yes, those are zabbix default templates. It should be possible to add our own debian related, but i really dont want to mess with the database stuff, this would also mean updating and fixing those debian related templates if upstream suddenly decides to change the database layout etc. and could be become a total mess (wrt upgrade pathes to newer versions and so on ..) With version 1.3.3 afaik items/templates can be exported/importet from xml, we could then add debian related templates to the examples or something, lets see how this works out. Bug#415114: sputtering on Battle for Wesnoth/Zsnes when using libsdl1.2debian-alsa
Package: libsdl1.2debian-alsa Version: 1.2.11-8 Severity: normal Hello, my soundcard is a muse5.1dvd (lspci yields : 01:08.0 Multimedia audio controller: C-Media Electronics Inc CM8738 (rev 10)). When using libsdl1.2debian-alsa, some applications, like Battle for Wesnoth or the Zsnes emulator get the sound with hard sputtering. I noticed that this sputtering is not present when using libsdl1.2debian-oss (I guess this goes through the oss emulation module). I also noticed that this problem is not present in other sdl applications like frozen-bubble. I could stick with libsdl1.2debian-oss, however, my card doesn't have multiplex capacity and I use the alsa dmix for multiplexing. However, dmix doesn't seem to work for applications that use oss-emulation, so I would really prefer to use libsdl1.2debian-alsa. If you need more data about my settings, please feel free to ask me. Bug#413968: clamsmtpd fails, error 451
Well, hard to say it's related without actually being able to reproduce the error, but this: add_clamav2group || true means that any errors from trying to add the clamav user to the clamsmtp group on package install are silently ignored. Probably better to propagate the error, then at least this bug report might be debuggable as a package failing to install, instead of a package failing to run. I can't see any overt reason why it should have failed, though, so I wonder if this bug should be downgraded regardless. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#370186: kernel?
Well, it would be interesting if it turned out to be a kernel problem. I hadn't installed hal until (relatively) recently, so I don't know what kernel version introduced the problem. It could, indeed, be a firmware-driver interaction problem, where there was a firmware bug which was only triggered by a change in the driver. :-/ Perhaps this bug could be forked off (and assigned to the kernel or something) to deal with the remaining issue? -- Nathanael Nerode [EMAIL PROTECTED] It's just a goddamned piece of paper. -- President Bush, referring to the US Constitution http://www.capitolhillblue.com/artman/publish/article_7779.shtml -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#414539: Iceweasel not remembering saved passwords
Package: iceweasel Version: 2.0.0.2+dfsg-3 Same happens to me, too. I thought that somehow my passwords had been deleted, but I checked and I found the following: 1. I can see all passwords inside the Security tab in the Preferences dialog, so it is clearly not a problem of the password database being erased. 2. I go to a website that Iceweasel knows the login/password and only the login is filled. If I enter the password, Iceweasel prompts to remember it and remembers in following occasions. Bug#415130: iceape-calendar: Remote calendar functionality severely deficient
Package: iceape-calendar Version: 1.0.7-3 Severity: important I appreciate that iceape-calendar is provided for people that were using Mozilla Calendar in the Mozilla Suite, but is not officially part of the current Iceape Suite and I'm grateful to those who've worked to make this happen. However, iceape-calendar's handling of remote, webDAV based does not (remotely!) imitate that of mozilla-calendar, and unless I'm mistaken, is severely deficient. The iceape-calendar package description does say You can also use the calendar to subscribe to these events (share your calendars) as well. I'm surprised no-one else has noticed this, and I hope I'm missing something - in which case, apologies, and thanks to anyone who can put me right. The main points are: (1) iceape-calendar's Reload remote calendars context menu (or File menu) item. I can't work out what this does, but it certainly doesn't do what it should, and what mozilla-calendar's Refresh remote calendars (same place in context menu) does, namely: * overwrite the local copy of each remote calendar, in turn, with the remote copy This is the functionality that makes calendar sharing possible: several people modify a .ics file on a server, and use a calendar client to read it (and cache a local copy). Possibly connected with this is: (2) iceape-calendar has no option to Subscribe to a remote calendar. In mozilla-calendar, this is available in the Tools menu, but also helpfully in the New calendar context menu (and File menu), where the creation contains a check box for: Publish changes automatically? For remote calendars, this will download a new version before you add, edit or delete an event. It will then perform your action, and upload the new file to the server. Again, this is a core part of sharing remote calendars. Instead, iceape-calendar seems to have only an action to create a New calendar file, which optionally can be remote. When I use this to try to subscribe to an existing remote calendar, iceape-calendar silently OVERWRITES any existing calendar of the same name. I lost data this way, and fortunately my resentment is contained because I have good backups. Therefore, I have not found a way to make iceape subscribe to my existing (mozilla-calendar-generated) remote .ics files; and I don't see the point of going through a laborious import process if I cannot use the result in a sharing way (with the rest of my scattered family). I've classified this bug as important because I believe it has a major effect on the usability of a package. I appreciate that some people might see it as wishlist, but in that case I think the description of iceape-calendar as supporting sharing of calendars needs to be edited out. I've reported this bug as applying to the version of iceape-calendar currently in etch (1.0.7-3), which is where I want to use it; but I've checked that it all applies too to the version currently in sid (1.0.8-3), albeit on amd64. Bug#414660: csound: writes garbage data to terminal, then quits
Hi there, I'm not going to do this myself, though, but it should be easy enough for an NMUer after the 3-day limit has passed. I see. Interesting... I figured Csound would be 64-bit clean by now. I've successfully compiled Csound 5 on my AMD64 machine, and it seems to work fine; are there plans to package that version? I see .deb packages in the relevant SourceForge project but no discussion about actual inclusion in Debian. Hmm, isn't it jumping from 4.x to 5.x at this point way too dangerous? I agree that efforts to package csound 5 should be made, for sid - lenny, but at this point it doesn't sound feasible to plan a jump to csound 5. I see two ways of solving this bug: actual solving the problem (although I don't see it happening) or this package being NMUed to do what Steinar said... -- Marcos Marado Sonaecom IT -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#367010: groovy: Groovy version 1.0 required for FreeMind packaging.
Hi Markus, tricky question you have there... My issue is not so much with groovy itself, but rather with its dependencies: looking at the current package, it contains 24 external jars. Quick scan through those lets me think that half of it are not in Debian yet. So here is the deal: - I package groovy under the umbrella of Debian Java Maintainers - you are my sponsor - you don't complain too much if the next version still contains some 12 external jars (first task for me is to check that the licensing is OK) - once FreeMind is back into Debian, I'll package the missing groovy dependencies as time permits (and you are welcome to be my sponsor). Is it a fair offer? Cheers, Eric Marcus Crafter said: Hi Eric, Unfortunately the package was orphaned quite a while ago and is seeking a new maintainer. Would you be interested in taking over maintainership of the package? Bug#411727: uswsusp: resume_device set to devfs-like name (under D-I), always prevents hibernation

My understanding is that : - uswsusp is installed under the D-I environement ('Laptop' task depends on it). - The D-I environnement uses devfs long names. - so uswsusp configures swap device using devfs. - therefore s2disk doesn't work. when booted to the regular debian kernel which uses `normal' device names This is correct. In only recently found this out through a bugreport. Because we're already so far in the freeze and this behavior is going away in the future anyway (I've been told) and didn't want to fix this. Also I though it would involve some kludge which was likely to break, but .. Would it be better to: - add a hook in the current package, in order to detect that we're in D-I, then use di's mapdevfs. .. I didn't know mapdevfs existed... I think I can prepare a simple workaround based on this. Something along the lines of if [ -x /bin/mapdevfs ]; then newpath=`mapdevfs $oldpath` fi That is if mapdevfs does what I think it does;) Release team: would an upload to t-p-u with a interdiff which will roughly look like this be acceptable? Bug#415136: No kernel messages are logged after /etc/init.d/sysklogd restart
Package: sysklogd Version: 1.4.1-18 I just appended a line containing *.* /dev/tty8 to /etc/syslog.conf, to let anything also beeing reported on tty8. After customizing /etc/syslog.conf, neither way to stopstart, restart or reload syslogd via /etc/init.d/sysklogd seems to work properly. /sbin/syslogd is running again, but no kernel messages are logged in any way. Logging from other processes like cron, backup-manager or sshd works. A complete system reboot helps, as does switching to runlevel 1 and then back to runlevel 2 via init. But neither option passed to /etc/init.d/sysklogd that involves stopping syslogd seems to get logging of kernel messages back up (dmesg still works, though). After some tinkering around I found out that after a /etc/init.d/sysklogd restart, a manual /etc/init.d/klogd restart reenables loggig of kernel messages. Is this intended behaviour? If my manual network settings are incorrect and I am changing them later because debian can't find an apt repository the changes won't be made in /etc/network/interfaces. This file still keeps the wrong settings. Bug#415148: nautilus-open-terminal used on removable media causes unmount problems
Package: nautilus-open-terminal Version: 0.7-1 When nautilus-open-terminal is used on a mounted data CD disk, it causes nautilus to keep /media/cdrom0 open, preventing the disk from being ejected. To duplicate the problem: 1) Insert a data CD into the computer's drive. A disk icon appears on the desktop. Open a terminal window and run the following command: % lsof | grep cdrom lsof: WARNING: can't stat() ext3 file system /dev/.static/dev Output information may be incomplete. No processes have /media/cdrom0 open. Good. 2) Double-click on the disk icon to open the cdrom in a nautilus window. Again, in the terminal window: % lsof | grep cdrom lsof: WARNING: can't stat() ext3 file system /dev/.static/dev Output information may be incomplete. 3) Right-click on the nautilus window and select Open In Terminal Now, in the first terminal window, run the lsof command again: % lsof | grep cdrom lsof: WARNING: can't stat() ext3 file system /dev/.static/dev Output information may be incomplete. nautilus 22734peek cwd DIR 22,0 2048 1792 /media/cdrom0 zsh 23161peek cwd DIR 22,0 2048 1792 /media/cdrom0 4) Exit the /media/cdrom0 terminal window. Aha! Bug sighted!: % lsof | grep cdrom lsof: WARNING: can't stat() ext3 file system /dev/.static/dev Output information may be incomplete. nautilus 22734peek cwd DIR 22,0 2048 1792 /media/cdrom0 Once the /media/cdrom0 terminal window closes, shouldn't nautilus close /media/cdrom0 as well? 5) Close the /media/cdrom0 nautilus window: Bug persists!: % lsof | grep cdrom lsof: WARNING: can't stat() ext3 file system /dev/.static/dev Output information may be incomplete. nautilus 22734peek cwd DIR 22,0 2048 1792 /media/cdrom0 And if all else fails, shouldn't nautilus close /media/cdrom0 once the nautilus window displaying cdrom0 closes? The only way to eject the CD now is to kill nautilus -- forcing the user to lose all other nautilus windows that might also be open. Thanks for all the hard work you guys have put into Debian. Bug#409862: Single letter hostnames are rejected as incorrect
Il giorno Thu, 15 Mar 2007 07:38:46 +0100 Ola Lundqvist [EMAIL PROTECTED] ha scritto: That should be [[:lower:][:digit:]]*(*([[:lower:][:digit:]_-])[[:lower:][:digit:]])) But this regex still allow -a, right? Mmh, no... well, it doesn't here :). Please use [:class:] instead of [a-z] as the latter is locale dependant and, while it seems reverted on recent bash, i think i can remember that a not-so-old release of bash broke it down ( well, the bash is/was right, the scripts aren't ). Hmm, well I'm not sure if I want to allow other letters than that. Not sure I'm following you here. [[:lower:]] is the same that [a-z], but better :): [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/test$ touch a A b B y Y z Z [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/test$ echo $LC_COLLATE C [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/test$ ls [a-z] a b y z [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/test$ ls [[:lower:]] a b y z [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/test$ export LC_COLLATE=[EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/test$ ls [a-z] a A b B y Y z [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/test$ ls [[:lower:]] a b y z As said, it seems that now ( at least etch - bash 3.1dfsg-8 ) the case .. in match follows the COLLATE=C behaviour, but anyway [:class:] should be a safer choice. Do posix allow other letters? Tried to quickly dig into SUSv3 w/o finding any reference to it ( please note that I haven't found != there's none ). Anyway IMHO trying to melt down POSIX, DNS, RFC, conventions and various implementations is really a pain and I'm not sure the OP was kidding when said you, as the coder, have to take your decision ( i assume you already did, i.e., when allowed only lower characters ). As for my ( very personal ) thought I'd use [[:alnum:]]*(*([[:alnum:]-])[[:alnum:]]) ( note the lacking of dash and the case insensitive match ) that IMHO should be a valid rfc hostname ( apart from not enforcing an upper lenght limit ), as the 2-characters lower limit isn't so clearly affirmed ( think about the DN root servers ). Bug#408823: mantis: dpkg-reconfigure deletes config_defaults_inc.php
Hi, this one is definitive reproducible, but I cannot really understand, why this happens. Fact is that configuration files that has been created by my package during installation are to be deleted on removal. Therefore the pre-removal script contains an entry which deletes those configuration files. But for me it seems that it is a bug in dpkg that these script is called during reconfigure. I will inform me about this issue, before I do anything about it. Thanks for reporting this issue. Best Regards Patrick signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature
Bug#411326: gnome-volume-manager: I think this may be important in cases of suspend/resume
On Fri, Mar 16, 2007 at 08:24:30AM +0100, Olivier Berger wrote: Package: gnome-volume-manager Followup-For: Bug #411326 I think that in case of suspend/resume cycles, plugged devices may need to be unmounted, remounted, and stuff like dbus or hal (as a consequence) may need to be restarted... No.. I didn't check what actually happens. But the kernel should remove and re-add these devices on suspend/resume if appropriate. In that case your devices will be unmounted on removal and remounted when their re-added. So, I think gvm should be able to resist such situations (and drive-mount-applet too). They should handle hal restarts, but that has nothing to do with suspends.. I'm no so sure about what's needed to properly address mounting/unmounting and restarts in hibernate though... anyway, in the case this could be usefull, that were my 2 cents, Nothing special from hal, again the kernel should ensure that it removes/readds devices when applicable. Do you have a real life example where this goes wrong or was this more a theoretical bug report ? Sjoerd -- Last yeer I kudn't spel Engineer. Bug#409862: Single letter hostnames are rejected as incorrect
Hi On Fri, Mar 16, 2007 at 02:38:15PM +0100, Gian Piero Carrubba wrote: Il giorno Thu, 15 Mar 2007 07:38:46 +0100 Ola Lundqvist [EMAIL PROTECTED] ha scritto: That should be [[:lower:][:digit:]]*(*([[:lower:][:digit:]_-])[[:lower:][:digit:]])) But this regex still allow -a, right? Mmh, no... well, it doesn't here :). Oh, good! I really thought that it would match that. Anyway IMHO trying to melt down POSIX, DNS, RFC, conventions and various implementations is really a pain and I'm not sure the OP was kidding when said you, as the coder, have to take your decision ( i assume you already did, i.e., when allowed only lower characters ). ehm... Well I should allow upper case letters as well... :) As for my ( very personal ) thought I'd use [[:alnum:]]*(*([[:alnum:]-])[[:alnum:]]) Agree in principle. ( note the lacking of dash and the case insensitive match ) Why the lack of dash? that IMHO should be a valid rfc hostname ( apart from not enforcing an upper lenght limit ), as the 2-characters lower limit isn't so clearly affirmed ( think about the DN root servers ). I think your suggestion above is fully ok, but I think I have to allow dash, at least for backwards compatibility.
