Bug#443936: xserver-xorg-video-mga: windowmaker and 1.9.99 get along terribly

2007-10-04 Thread Brice Goglin
kls wrote:
I finally got around to upgrading my laptop (ATI M6LY)'s install of
sid, and found that this is *not* a problem in the mga driver. It's a
problem in some other random xorg component, presumably
 libxcomposite1.

To work around it, I have to disable both the Composite extension and
AIGLX -- it seems that with only one disabled the other caused it to
 be re-enabled.

(Any suggestions on tracing down what's actually wrong?)

 (e.g.
 Section Extensions
   Option Composite disable
 EndSection
 Section ServerFlags
   Option AIGLX no
 EndSection
 )

So I guess that means this bug should either be moved to a different
 package or closed.

If I understand correctly, you are seeing WindowMaker being very slow on
both MGA and ATI with Xorg 7.3 (xserver-xorg-core 1.4) when
AIGLX/Composite is enabled? And it worked fine before? Does it help if
you switch to EXA on ATI? EXA shouldn't as bad as in MGA on your board.

Bug#445213: acpi-support: video-vesa-state and video-restore give errors

2007-10-04 Thread Bart Samwel

Jerry Quinn wrote:

During suspend, /etc/acpi/suspend.d/80-video-vesa-state.sh gives the following
error:

line 7: [: !=: unary operator expected

This appears to be because the test in that line looks like:

 [ $VBEMODE != 3 ]

and VBEMODE gets a value of:

Real mode call failed

Hence the broken shell script.

/etc/acpi/resume.d/17-video-restore.sh has the same issue.

There seems to be an underlying problem here where vbetool and acpi aren't
agreeing on expected behavior.

Hi Jerry,

Thanks for reporting this, I'll look into it.

Bart

Bug#445184: meld: would benefit from an option to save the diff as a file

2007-10-04 Thread Y Giridhar Appaji Nag
Hi Neil,

On 07/10/03 21:37 +0100, Neil Williams said ...
It would be very useful if, after editing two files, meld would have an
option to save the final difference as a .diff or .patch file. I usually

meld already has an option to create a patch file and save it to a file
or the clipboard. If you right-click in one of the two panes that meld
creates while editing / viewing diffs, you can select the Create Patch
item to do this.

If this is what you are looking for (and you did not find it because you
were looking for it in the main menu), we can patch meld to probably add
that to the File drop-down.

I didn't know that the preinst script did something like this. This is
probably about upgrades from very old versions. At first look this
seems to be the fix for from version 0.9.2b-3 for a bug that doesn't
exist anymore. I think it should be safe to just remove the preinst

Sorry for filing the duplicated bug report (Olafur beated me by 6
minutes...). At least, there Thomas's comments and mine appear in the
   second one.

I just realized that there is a rather huge side-effect. octave-headers
triggers the installation of quite a lot of -dev packages (fftw-dev,
  gfortran, ...).

I'm still in favor of merging the packages, though.

We might also move pkg.m into octave2.9-headers and avoid the huge
 side-effect you mention above.

How about scheduling this for 2.9.15? I don't think we should change it
somewhere in between two Debian revisions.

Different topic: it seems
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=420080#29
didn't make it to the list. Slow server or did we accidentally discard
it?

Is this problem reproducible for you with the php5-sybase package in
unstable, which is now based on the mssql extension rather than the
sybase-ct extension? I wasn't able to reproduce it here.

I don't think I would be able to reproduce it with a package based on
the mssql extension. As the author of the original bug report to php.net
pointed out, he could fix it by adding explicit support for the
CS_UNIQUE_TYPE to php_sybase_ct.c. So unless that support has been
forgotten in the mssql extension as well, you won't be seeing that bug.

But because unstable will take a while to become stable, I wouldn't mind
if the tiny fix would be applied to the current stable. If that's not
possible, I guess I'll have to wait for a backport :)

Walter Doekes

I don't know anything about this bug, what it's about, or even in what

bug, it sends it as you write it, without any extra information. So I'd
have to look up the bug to find out what the message is about.

To avoid that, it's a good idea to give some context (quoting the bug

Description: Creation and verification of DKIM mail signatures - Perl library
DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) provides a method for validating an identity
that is associated with a message, during the time it is transferred over the
Internet. That identity then can be held accountable for the message.
 .
This is a Perl implementation created by Jason Long of Messiah College.
It performs signing as well as signature verification.

Neither spamassassin nor libmail-dkim-perl lists any dependency on
Crypt::OpenSSL::Bignum. I noticed this comment in
Mail::SpamAssassin::Plugin::DKIM:

 # Have to do this so that RPM doesn't find these as required perl modules.
 # Crypt::OpenSSL::Bignum included here, since Mail::DKIM loads it in some
 # situations at runtime and spews messy errors if it's not there.
 BEGIN { require Mail::DKIM; require Mail::DKIM::Verifier; require
Crypt::OpenSSL::Bignum; }

but I can't find any reference to Crypt::OpenSSL::Bignum anywhere in
Mail::DKIM,
so I belive this is a dependency bug in spamassassin. If the comment
were true, this should have been reported as a bug against libmail-dkim-perl
instead of an ugly workaround.

Anyway, the requirement must either be removed from spamassassin or documented
in spamassassin.

do find /path/debian/dists/. -name *$arch* -exec rm -r {} \;
find /path/debian/pool/ -name *_$arch.deb -exec rm -r {} \;
done

It will make the list consistent with the architectures available on
your mirror.

 Archive-ftp: /pub/debian/

One more thing about anonftpsync, it allows the mirror to be used by
people eevn during its update, since the update is almost atomic.
It's why we strongly recommanded its use.

 CDImage-ftp: /pub/debian-cd/

The CD/DVD mirror is ok.

Comments about the connectivity (available bandwidth, peering) and the
frequency update are welcome :-)

Don't hesitate to reply to the bug when this detail will be ok.

Thanks for mirroring Debian and best regards.

Bug#445234: Include comments in example .mg

2007-10-04 Thread Trent W. Buck
Package: mg
Version: 20070529-1
Severity: wishlist

The example .mg contains no comments. It's natural for a Unix user to
guess that .mg uses an octothorpe as the comment prefix; in fact it
uses a semicolon. Simply placing a comment in the example file

would avoid this momentary confusion.

Bug#445236: gdm: the font in text-input field is way too big

2007-10-04 Thread Giacomo Montagner
Package: gdm
Version: 2.18.4-1
Severity: important

When gdm starts it is appearently OK, then while typing in
username/password the font used is too big, and only the part which fits
inside the text-input box is displayed.
Also the menus displayed by clicking on Session, Actions or
Language are written with too big fonts and fill the screen, so menus
are unusable.

wpasupplicant uses a script named /etc/logrotate.d/wpa_action

For the interests of clarity and consistency, this should really be the
name of the package, not the name of the log file.

It is also the name of the daemon, wpa_action(8). I disagree that it makes any
more sense to change the name of the logrotate rule, and certainly don't
think its worth it to change something under /etc now.

Reinhard, what do you think?

hmmm I was a bit quick in my last answer, I see you use the pdnsd in

Sorry I missed that. Though to make the default configuration work, you
have to use resolvconf. Resolvconf is recommended in unstable/testing
hence will be pulled by default, and then the default configuration
should work out from the box for most systems around. This is hence
fixed.

Note that I did pdnsd backports available on www.backports.org with a
more recent pdnsd, and better default configurations.

The only mention of the ifupdown option and its usage is in

Please add information about the ifupdown option to a common place like

 also be useful.

You are right, and I am lazy. Will do that next time I have a hack on hostapd

Bug#445104: xscreensaver: aborts X session if I let the log-back-in screen time out while switched to a virtual console

2007-10-04 Thread Edward Welbourne
Sounds like X is dying on vt switch.
I guess so.

I assume this doesn't happen when xscreensaver isn't running?
Indeed.

If X is indeed crashing, can you attach your X log after the crash?
(should be /var/log/Xorg.0.log, or /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old after X has
 been restarted)

In the interests of brevity, the follows the diff between my current
log and the last time I exercised the crash in the course of
reproducing the bug. If you want the whole log I can send that, but I
notice this does indeed include a backtrace ...

Bug#444866: tzdata: Please provide tzdata-source package with original Olsen database

libicu) could use it as build-dep. It would make the synchronizing the

  See also Bug#416206.

Is making it use the tzdata binary data at runtime (as suggested in
#416206) not a much better idea?

Providing another library with 100% compatible API is interesting
idea, but the DateTime::TimeZone already exists and is used by some
existing projects and packages. This library is stable and reliable.

I'm the maintainer of DateTime::TimeZone , not the upstream developer.
I really don't want to completly redesign this library just because
the Debian already provides the Olson DB only as binary data.
Rewriting the library from scratch can't be harmless for its stability
and reliability.

I think this idea is just not realizable.

Bug#445238: vim: write errors in swap file when on remote FS

2007-10-04 Thread Chris Butler
Package: vim
Version: 1:7.1-056+2
Severity: normal

When using vim to edit files on a remote FS (in this case sshfs, but I
imagine this happens with others too), vim starts throwing errors saying
E297: Write error in swap file if the connection to the remote dies
and then comes back up again. I'm guessing that vim is keeping the
filehandle for the swapfile open, and this filehandle becomes invalid
when the connection dies.

Steps to reproduce:

mkdir tmp
sshfs -o reconnect localhost:/tmp tmp
vim tmp/foo

Type some stuff in, save it, then keep it open. In another window, kill
the ssh process that's been spawned by sshfs, then go back to vim. Start
pressing u/^R to undo/redo, and you should start to see the
aforemetioned error.

The above example is a bit contrived, I actually noticed the problem
when using software suspend, which makes the ssh processes die.

According to strace, the error returned from the write(2) call is EIO.
Perhaps instead of just throwing an error, vim should attempt to re-open
the swap file and THEN throw an error if that fails as well.

I don't see the benefit of this longtitle you're proposing, it gives
not much more info than the title itself. Is there any restriction on
  length for

 Then remove the longtitle entirely.

Yep, that was exactly what I was thinking to do.

it or any other problem? Why is it not appropriate?

The longtitle must be a valid menu entry, not some kind of self-promotion.

Aha, got it. Thanks for the explanation.

 Imagine the menu Applications/Network/Communication filled
 with entries like
The user-friendly, lightweight and fast Claws Mail email client
The resource-efficient and easy-to-use Evolution email client
The beautiful and standard-compliant Thunderbird email client
The system-friendly, bloat-free and text-based Mutt email client

Would you not find that annoying ?

  Indeed, I'll remove it.

Also please migrate to the new menu structure [1].
   section=Apps/Net should be changed to
   section=Applications/Network/Communication

You're late on this, it's already fixed in 3.0.2, uploaded
  yesterday ;-)

Sorry, I build the list of menu file on gluck which seems to lag a
 bit...

No need to be sorry, these things happen.

When gdm starts it is appearently OK, then while typing in
username/password the font used is too big, and only the part which fits
inside the text-input box is displayed.
Also the menus displayed by clicking on Session, Actions or
Language are written with too big fonts and fill the screen, so menus
 are unusable.

Does it happen only with the default theme, or are other GDM themes
affected as well?

Bug#445239: qtiplot: crashs on Gauss fitting

Package: qtiplot
Version: 0.9-1
Severity: normal

After opening the following ASCII file

5 3,5
(in a German locale, , is required instead of .) and selecting
Fit Wizzard in Analysis it crashes once I click with my mouse on
the Gauss function in the dialog. It seems to work with most other
functions.

I'm sorry but I'm unable to provide a backtrace as I have my Debian
box running in a Xen session which doesn't like gdb.

Also it seems that DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=nostrip debug is not respected
so that I had to change CONFIG += release into CONFIG += debug in
qtiplot/qtiplot.pro. Probably it should default to debug as dh_strip
is called in debian/rules which respects DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS.

Bug#445236: gdm: the font in text-input field is way too big

2007-10-04 Thread Giacomo Montagner
All themes are affected. Of course to configure gdm I hat to login,
then start gdmsetup as root from a terminal, because it's impossible to
select the configure option from the menu directly in gdm login-screen:
fonts are so big that that option gets out from the screen.

Thanks for reporting the issue! I know where the error comes from and it
should be easy to fix. Until it's fixed, installing openmpi-common will
help, as the needed files are in there.
