Bug#451894: Should recommend gnucash-docs

2007-11-19 Thread Saïvann
Package: gnucash
Version: 2.2.1-1
Severity: minor

The current gnucash version doesn't install automatically gnucash-docs
which is needed in order to access gnucash documentation through gnucash
menus and options.

The actual gnucash package only suggest gnucash-docs while it should
recommend it. As specified into the debian devel announcement here :

http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2007/08/msg0.html

apt will automatically install recommend dependencies in a near
future. I suggest to change gnucash dependencies in order to recommend
gnucash-docs.

Bug#451849: openoffice.org-gnome: wiping out contents of files on shared drives when opening

2007-11-19 Thread Tim Richardson

Rene Engelhard wrote:

Hi,

When opening files on a shared folder (in one case, a Windows share, in
another case, a share from another Debian box) the file is zeroed out
when the file is opened. Irretrievable data loss. No warning.
Something to do with gnome Vfs perhaps. The error occurs in Writer and
Calc (the only two parts of openoffice.org I tested).
I saw this happen with a number of small documents that opened just fine
if they were first copied to the local hard drive.

And since when does that happen? With the upgrade to 2.3.0.dfsg-1 or
later or before it (i.e.. with 2.2.1-x or 2.3.0-x)?

Unfortunately I don't really have either nfs nor smb here to test
currently so...
I'll ask upstream whether this is known...

Regards,

Rene

By the way, I am not using nfs on the Linux server I mentioned. The URL
to the file indicates sftp, and I thought I was using samba. It normally
just works. Of course, the share on the Windows machine is smb.

Bug#451909: Man page does not tell that you can also mount files

2007-11-19 Thread Michal Čihař
Package: cryptsetup
Version: 2:1.0.5-2
Severity: normal
File: /usr/share/man/man5/crypttab.5.gz

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi

as the crypttab parsing allows file to be automatically mounted over
loop, it should be documented in man page.

The man page wrongly states: The second field source device describes
the block special device that should hold the encrypted data.

I think something like The second field source device describes either
the block special device or file which will be automatically mounted
over loop that should hold the encrypted data. would be more
appropriate.

Bug#451742: [Pkg-virtualbox-devel] Bug#451742: Don't modprobe vboxadd

2007-11-19 Thread Kel Modderman
Hi Michael,

On Sunday 18 November 2007 23:13:19 Michael Meskes wrote:
On Sun, Nov 18, 2007 at 10:22:14PM +1000, Kel Modderman wrote:
If I put the software on a live debian cd, I can boot the same set of
software on real hardware or in a VM. The software should do the correct
thing in both the real and virtual worlds.

Absolutely right. That's why the init script will check whether it is
inside the VM before starting anything.

I have attached patch below to improve upon what is committed to
pkg-virtualbox in r116 and r118.

Remove the set -e bit, and do exit status checking ourselves with the
log_end_msg lsb function. set -e is generally unwanted in initscripts, and
it is not as if anything that this initscript will ever do should cause script
to bail out so hard.

$ grep 'set -e' /etc/init.d/skeleton
# Do NOT set -e

The committed lspci check will not work, because vendor id and device id is
not provided in the default lspci output stream. A better way would be to do a
direct lookup using known vendor_id:device_id with the '-d' option. If a string
is
returned then the device is present. If nothing is returned, print a message
stating system is not in a Virtual Machine.

Put the check in a function, run it for the start and stop actions.

A warning should be printed in the case the script is ran outside of a VM.

Since now there is a check for emulated Vbox VGA hardware, the call to modprobe
could be retained, just do it quietly, so that we can warn if kernel support is
unavailable and exit before attempting to start the daemons.

Depend on pciutils, because it is called from the initscript unconditionally.

Thanks, Kel.

application: data is taken from archive only, and there is
no reason for any significant delay.

Moreover, I've heard thread creation is rather expensive on
Linux, and by quick benchmark I saw that thread-less version
works several times faster than threaded (on wget -r).

Hi,

Thanks for deep digging of this issue. Can you provide patches, so
that upstream can
also adopt it along with Debian.

Thanks again for taking care!

with 2:1.4.1~git20071117-1 resolution is broken here (HorizSync and
VertRefresh values are ignored from xorg.conf, i'll double check and
eventually file a new one ^_^).

Strangely enough, it's now working with 2:1.4-3 too. Should i close it
myself (443471) or should i leave it to the maintainers?

Thanks a lot for you help.

Bug#451915: libgnomesu(GNU/k*BSD): FTBFS: out of date libtool scripts

2007-11-19 Thread Petr Salinger

Package: libgnomesu
Severity: important
Version: 1.0.0-1
Tags: patch
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: kfreebsd

Hi,

the current version of libgnomesu fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD,
because of outdated libtool.

The version of libtool used in libgnomesu is too old to correctly
support Debian GNU/k*BSD, libtool 1.5.2-1 or later is need.

Here is how to update the libtool in your package:

  libtoolize -c -f
  aclocal
  autoconf

Note that you should probably use the same version of aclocal (from
the packages automake*) as the one used in the package. You could
determine it by looking at the first line of Makefile.in.

It would also be nice if you can ask upstream to update libtool
in their next release.

Thanks in advance

 Petr

There is a not correctly working routine in the mentioned script to handle
detaching of loopback devices. After stopping, the device /dev/loopX is still

Bug#451917: xserver-xorg-video-intel: upgrade from 2:2.1.1-4 to 2:2.2.0-1 breaks X for g33 chipset

2007-11-19 Thread Alan W. Irwin
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.2.0-1
Severity: normal

X -probeonly

completely locks up the keyboard with the monitor immediately put into its
low-power state (as close to turned off as possible without quite being
turned off) so the only recourse is to log in remotely and shutdown or to
reset to regain control of the keyboard. Everything worked fine
for previous version (2:2.1.1-4) although there was initially a lot
of trouble with modelines and VGA-1 until I found the right combination
in xorg.conf to get 2:2.1.1-4 to work.

Note, I have tried some other variations such as VGA rather than VGA-1, but
that didn't help the complete lockup with X -probeonly. In the log below
you will see

First SDVO output reported failure to sync

I previously (with 2:2.1.1-4) never saw that error message.

Any advice you could give me to work around the present hard lock
and restore X to normalcy would be much appreciated. For example,
is there any way for me to get back to 2:2.1.1-4?

Bug#451886: fgets() and poison NULL byte attacks (aka NULL escapes)

Possible partial fix for fgets and alternatives.

Bug #57729 is marked as done. It could be fixed for real.
I have found null escapes a pretty reliable way of breaking many C
 programs including various editors.

The standard C stdio.h fgets function is just plain wrong.

fputs stops at a '\0', but fgets may only stop at '\n' even if a '\0'
is encountered. There is no way of knowing how much is read by fgets.
These functions are inconsistent and are not binary safe.

 The standard should be fixed.

The libc will follow the standard, and the standard will never ever
fix things like that. If you're going to read binary data, indeed, you
should not use FILE* or fgets, but plain read(1) calls with non blocking
sockets in a select loop.

Anyway, the glibc _packaging_ team will never ever take the liberty to
introduce new symbols that arent in the upstream glibc, it would be way
too disruptive, so please bring this upstream, we don't have the
resources to do that for you.

and yes btw fputs stops at the first \0 because it puts a string, and
strings in C are NUL terminated. fgets has a disruptive API, and _yes_ I
would very much prefer that fgets had this API intead of the current:

  ssize_t fgets(char *buf, size_t len);

with the usual semantics that -1 means error (with errno set
properly), and else the return value would be the amount of bytes
written in the buffer buf, not counting the last '\0', meaning that the
return value would be at most equal to len - 1. Or even name this
fgetline as it's what it does for real. Sadly it's not the case, blame
the C committee. Meanwhile I'm leaving that bug as wontfix.

This is caused because, by default on Debian mysql-server comes

  silently.

I see two ways to fix this:

 - use skip-networking instead bind-address (Christian, can you give me

bind-address 127.0.0.1 seems to be a good trade-off between security (not
world accessible) and comfort (accessible for local applications which insist
to connect via TCP).

 - check in mysql-server's preinst script if the lo interface is up, and
abort installation of the package with a meaningful warning if it's
   down

I have not read the full report yet but if somebody does not have a
working 127.0.0.1 then I would consider this a broken server and put
the bug on wontfix. But feel free to fix it, Norbert :)

which results in “error: cast from 'char*' to 'int' loses precision”
when trying:
  g++ -o conftest  -DNDEBUG -Wno-deprecated -O2 -W -Wall -Wno-unused-parameter
conftest.cpp

Given the content of gettext.m4 under /usr/share/aclocal, it looks like
the (int) cast is added by some m4 magic by autotools (since gettext.m4
is rather about doing “return gettext…” w/o cast) but I'm quite sure
that gettext.m4 could be modified to be more portable.

Of course, feel free to reassign this bugreport to autotools packages if
you think they're doing the wrong thing, and shouldn't add the “(int)”
cast, or should try to use a “(long)” one.

(confirmed by a simple test case), which is actually bug #306914.

Thanks. I hadn't realised that libwww-perl didn't support IPv6. That bug
report is quite old, and nothing seems to have happened. If there are no
plans to incorporate IPv6 support into libwww-perl, I may need to switch
to using libcurl3 for apt-cacher

Something else I've noticed is that with the version, bzip2 and gzip
 complain about the translation files
 (34% [3 Translation-en_US bzip2 0] [Waiting for headers]bzip2: (stdin)
 is not a bzip2 file)
which didn't happen on the other versions (though it looks like with
older apt-cacher versions, aptitude doesn't even request them, which is
 a bit odd).

Translation support was new in 1.5.5. I haven't seen the bzip2 error
though. There is a similar report at #448092. Are you running in CGI
mode too?

I am going to reassign this to libwww-perl. If you want to persue the
bzip2 issue, can you add it to #448092.

Thanks

There was a discussion on debian-release. Thought you all track that
 list.

I saw your mail in debian-release, but It did not mention that it
was a API break, requiring maintainers to fix their packages to
match. Giving a advance warning of such changes to maintainers via BTS

Notice that this transition has now made texlive-latex-recommended

Bug#431607: Solved ?

2007-11-19 Thread Didier Raboud
Hi,

this bug seem to have disappeared with version 0.7.3-1 in testing (at least on
my machine).

Could the first reporter and the other person who confirmed this behaviour
test this version and say if this update solves this bug ?

Bug#343268: please review/reconsider review wontfix tag

2007-11-19 Thread Jon Dowland
Hello,

This is something that has irked me for some time, but I
only noticed that ubuntu fixed it by witnessing a co-worker
using sudo.

I'm not sure what relationship Josh has with the package,
but in light of Martin's comments / Ubuntu's experiences,
could Josh / Bdale reconsider the wontfix tag?

Bug#444914: temporary-cryptsetup-$$ files appear in /dev/mapper

2007-11-19 Thread Dick Middleton

Jonas,

I suspect that udevsettle is the one you added to cryptsetup. Maybe a
timeout would fix this?

udevsettle indeed supports a --timeout= option, and this would
workaround your delay.

maybe the reason for your 3 minutes delay is that udevsettle has a builtin
timeout of 3 minutes.

That was my assumption.

in that case i have no problems with lowering the timeout of 30 seconds or
something like that.

I was thinking something more like 5 or even just 1. However as I think the
udevsettle is waiting for itself to complete I've tried spawning the cryptsetup
in my script in a separate shell so it runs asynchronously allowing the run rule
script to complete.

It seems to work - I'm not sure what problems might appear!

So that's my particular problem solved but obviously running udevsettle from
within a program is problematic.

Bug#446723: new firmware - sync with vendor version v2.21.0.0

2007-11-19 Thread Kel Modderman
Package: zd1211-firmware

The new firmware package mentioned by Martin-Éric would bring our package in
sync with v2.21.0.0 upstream vendor version, which seems to be the number
package is tracking. I agree, it would be nice to have this, the changelog
was very short, and seems to fix a pretty obvious issue of preventing
dropouts when doing lsusb or cat /proc/usb/devices [0].

I doubt it is suitable for main though, the human unreadable hex array is
pretty useless.

Thanks, Kel.

Upgrading to OOo2.3 makes it impossible to select a JRE under

The good news is that simply removing javasettings_Linux_X86_64.xml and
javasettings_Linux_x86.xml from ~/.openoffice.org2 solves the problem.

Bug#439597: crawl: darkgrey becomes black in xterm-256color

I could try patching Crawl for solution (a) in a few weeks,
but it would be nice if you could first comment on whether
you consider that a reasonable way to fix the problem.

I noticed that crawl can be told at compile time to use an 8 colour
terminal map, and then you can select a colour to replace dark grey.
Look in initfile.cc and search for COL_TO_REPLACE_DARKGREY. Maybe you
know a way of autodetecting the terminal capabilities, or otherwise this
compile time thing can be turned into a run time configuration option.

Hi,

I can not copy underscore _ characters from the gSOAP 2.7.9 Documentation

worked,

When a text is copied the normal characters are fine but the underscores
are simply

missing.

I will upload a new package today.

Bug#436682: hal-info: Support for Sony Ericsson K810i phone

2007-11-19 Thread Sjoerd Simons
tag 436682 +fixed-upstream
thanks

The attached patch adds support for K810 phone to the
10-usb-music-players.fdi file (this phone contains an usb-storage based
 music player).

This phone actually contains two usb-storage devices, one for phone's
internal memory and one for the memory stick reader in the phone. The
last line in the patch changes the storage.model key of the internal
memory device to K810i, because otherwise both devices are displayed as
Memory stick in Nautilus and Rhythmbox.

I've applied your patch in the hal-info upstream except for the change of
storage.model. The upstream view on that was that it's not something we'd like
to do in hal-info. This kind of policy should probably be done at a higher
level. For example, it would be good if gnome vfs detected these kind of
generic names and would change the name to ``Memory stick in K810i'' or
similar.

Thanks for the patch!

I must say that I do not understand this report. Both of these modules are
most certainly included in the official Etch images and both should be
loaded automatically for your hardware.

Could you please try again and provide both the hardware-summary (can be
generated using the save logs option in the main menu of the installer)
and the syslog from the installation (both gzipped).

You can do this without overwriting your existing installation as long as
you stop before the partitioning step.

Huh? Why tag + patch?

The good news is that simply removing javasettings_Linux_X86_64.xml and
javasettings_Linux_x86.xml from ~/.openoffice.org2 solves the problem.

This is not really a patch, I don't believe hacking around in user
configs from maintainer scripts is the proper way ;-)

Why do you have x86 and x86_64 into that dir anyway? Profile shared

Bug#451933: debpartial-mirror: Packages is not updated correctly

2007-11-19 Thread Arthur Lutz
Package: debpartial-mirror
Version: 0.2.95
Severity: normal

After a month or so, I want to regenerate my mirror, but I end up having
the following error :

Failed:
http://ftp.at.debian.org/debian/pool/main/i/imagemagick/libmagick9_6.2.4.5.dfsg1-1+b1_amd64.deb
The requested URL returned error: 404

System message: [Errno 2] No such file or directory

When comparing the Packages that debmirror-partial should be downloading
and the one on my filesystem they differ which leads the software to
attempt to download the wrong version of libmagick9 (should be
dfsg1-2).

The only solution I found so far is to scratch the existing mirror and
re-download everything.

Bug#431218: /usr/bin/git-remote: git remote rename

2007-11-19 Thread Uwe Kleine-König
Hello,

Renaming a remote requires changes in several places:
  * The remote configuration in .git/config
  * The remote branch directory in .git/refs/remotes/
  * Any remote branch heads which reference other remote branches, such as HEAD
(which will likely contain something like ref:
refs/remotes/remotename/branchname)
  * The reflogs in .git/logs/refs/remotes/

git branch -r -m ...

should do a all but the first item for you. Moreover you get an reflog
entry and it works with packed refs.

You have to call git branch for each tracking branch though, and it
doesn't help you to edit .git/config.

Best regards
Uwe
