Bug#464992: lintian: Copyright false positive

2008-02-10 Thread Adam C Powell IV
Package: lintian
Version: 1.23.45

Greetings,

My package petsc is flagged by the copyright-without-copyright-notice
check, but has the following line in its copyright file:
(C) COPYRIGHT 1995-2004 UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO

This is a false positive, as this line seems to satisfy all of the
requirements: copyright, date, holder. Is the check case-sensitive such
that it misses the all-caps COPYRIGHT?

examples you listed (ldap_initialize and ldap_get_option) now have man

  citing specific missing man pages.

While ldap_initialize is /documented/ in a manpage, the manpage is only
installed as ldap_init(3), not ldap_initialize(3) - so not very
findable. I think there's a fix still required here.

ldap_initialize is a link to ldap_open, so man should cope, no? I admit
that I assumed without checking that the latest release fixed all the man
page symlinks, since 2.4.7-5 didn't make the last archive pulse.

Aha - this is accounted for upstream, but the Debian package didn't have
these listed as manpages to install.

Ditto ldap_get_option; I can't even see any manpages in libldap2-dev
that look like obvious candidates for this. Where did you find this
  documented?

Well, doc/man/man3/ldap_get_option.3. Are we not installing it?

Nope, that one wasn't making it to the package either.

I've corrected these now in svn: using a single wildcard for man3/* is
a bit easier than listing the manpages one-by-one in
debian/libldap2-dev.manpages :)

Bug#454242: kic software and its manual page - updated (fwd)

Subject: Re: kic software and its manual page - updated

Hi Gürkan,

i just wanted to let you know that i used your draft version of manual page
for kic and debian. i hope you don't mind. i can update it anytime, no
 problem.
 it's in debian now
 http://packages.debian.org/kic

Thanks for your efforts, I really appreciate this.
In the meantime, I improved an entry routine somewhat, as I
encountered a problem while trying to draw another test mask. The
corresponding fix is attached (should be applied with 'patch -p0 -u'),
together with the new version of the manpage which has minor
modifications, but makes reference to the improved entry routine.
Anyway, documentation and help is still bad, I know..

The patch just changes version number (from 2.4a to 2.4b) and
modifies point.c to use floating point instead of integer numbers
for coordinate entries, with integer type cast after conversion
into internal units. This allows to enter coordinates by values at
the highest possible precision.

In case this diff is problematic, all the files and new tarball
can be found at http://yargo.andropov.org/src/kic/.

and it could even be really free software if this could be fixed:
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=454242

Ok. Well, at least for research and instruction it is usable already...

kind regards,

In fact, clicking Create New Wireless Network opens the dialog, and
clicking on connect disconnect from the current Access point, that is

 Works fine here.

Could you check the log files: grep NetworkManager /var/log/syslog
Maybe that gives a hint what's going on.

Generally, it is a very good idea to try things like that with a
minimal test case so that the turnaround time is only a few seconds.

I am even thinking about including a test case example with the package.

Bug#464938: d-i on i386 with 16 MiB RAM (using swap)

2008-02-10 Thread trosos
Using bzip2 doesn't save RAM, but it saves space on the root floppy.
(If you add all three ide modules on it, you would normally (using gzip)
end up with image bigger than 1.44 MB).

Therefore I suggest to compress initrd on the root floppy with bzip2,
which claims for using a bzip2 decompressor on the boot floppy,
insted of the gzip one.

Bug#398249: Looking for a solution...

2008-02-10 Thread David Paleino
tags 398249 +moreinfo +unreproducible +help
thanks

Hi,
I'm looking for a solution to the bug you filed against libx86. I've just tried
building it in a cowbuilder sid chroot, and it's fine. Maybe it's just
unreproducible on i386 (the log you posted shows that the build failed on s390).

I already asked my sponsor if there's any chance to have access to a s390
machine to try to solve the problem (it should be a missing #include
defining vm86_struct).

I'm looking for a solution.

Kindly,
David

Bug#465022: linux-image-2.6.24-1-xen-686: Does not work

2008-02-10 Thread William Pitcock
Package: linux-image-2.6.24-1-xen-686
Version: 2.6.24-3
Severity: important

It'd be nice if this actually worked as the only other
alternative is 2.6.18 from Etch. Instead what it does is
start then sit there using 100% CPU. It doesn't even print
debugging messages.

This happens on Xen 3.2.

Bug#465028: libqt3-mt: Missing weak symbols for stat64 functions

2008-02-10 Thread Guillem Jover
Package: libqt3-mt
Version: 3:3.3.8b-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

The Qt shared libraries were providing weak symbols for stat64,
lstat64 and fstat64 until version 3:3.3.7-9, but not anymore, other
Qt/KDE apps depend on those symbols, so they get terminated when the
symbols cannot be resolved during runtime (as the linking is done
lazyly). Affected applications I've seen terminate during runtime or
just when starting: gwenview and k3b.

regards,
guillem

Right, I added a similar note on the upstream bug report.

 the problem I originally
reported was an almost immediate lockup on starting X (if the virtual
size was too big and without the NoAccel option), while Ken still
observes a lockup when he logs in, when 'mail-notification' starts and
 puts up a pop-up window. (I don't use that tool, so I wouldn't have
 seen that issue.)

I am unmerging your own bug report from #452357 and marking it as fixed
in 2:2.2.0.90-2. In #452357, the lockup appeared 10s after the startup
of the server, Ken's bug might be more similar to this one.

 make[4]: *** [smb2.o] Error 1

Thank you. I pushed the following patch, which should fix these.

Debian bug 464384: fix OFF_T_FORMAT mismatches on amd64

On AMD64 apparently, off_t is long but ELinks detected SIZEOF_OFF_T == 8
and defined OFF_T_FORMAT as lld, which expects long long and so causes
GCC to warn about a mismatching format specifier. Because --enable-debug
adds -Werror to $CFLAGS, this warning breaks the build. When both
SIZEOF_LONG and SIZEOF_LONG_LONG are 8, ELinks cannot know which type
it should use.

To fix this, do not attempt to find a format specifier for off_t itself.
Instead cast all printed off_t values to a new typedef off_print_T that
is large enough, and replace OFF_T_FORMAT with OFF_PRINT_FORMAT which
is suitable for off_print_T altough not necessarily for off_t. ELinks
already had a similar scheme with time_print_T and TIME_PRINT_FORMAT.

Bug#465030: RFP: wildmidi -- software MIDI player and library

2008-02-10 Thread Emmet Hikory
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: wildmidi
  Version : 0.2.2
Upstream Author : Chris Ison [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://wildmidi.sourceforge.net/
* License : GPL, LGPL
  Programming Lang: C
Description : software MIDI player and library

WildMIDI is a simple software MIDI player using the wildmidi library.
The player itself is rather useless, but the library is a nice means
to provide MIDI processing without the overhead of timidity (and avoids
any need to split out a libtimidity to allow build-dependencies without
running a daemon).

I've prepared a package for Ubuntu, and would be more than willing to
also support this in Debian if anyone is interested. Alternately, if
someone else wants to maintain it, feel free: I'm happy to pass initial
packages to get started.

Bug#426238: Bug # 426238: ntp: kernel time sync error 0001

2008-02-10 Thread Steve Lane
In response to Bill Wohler's comment on 28 Aug 2007:

since 2.6.18 in lenny is now obsolete, this bug can probably be closed

please be aware that, as of today (2008-02-10), anyone using the most
recent nvidia-kernel package (nvidia-kernel-2.6.18-6-686) is using
linux-image-2.6.18-6-686, and that, therefore, 2.6.18 in lenny is *not*
now obsolete, and that, therefore, this bug is still a problem and
should not be closed.

I am hoping that an nvidia-kernel-2.6.22 package will be available
soon, but I have not yet heard back from inquiries into this.

In the mean time, any report of progress in addressing this bug would
be much appreciated.

Thanks. I think I might understand the problem here. Just to make
sure, could you please provide the output of:

pmount -d /dev/cdrom

Well, the great thing about pmount is that it precisely calls mount
for devices in /etc/fstab - saving trouble (except, of course, when that
 behavior is buggy).

True. But why was it changed from a working state to using pumount for
 devices not under /media?

I'll need to investigate that. I've been neglecting pmount for a
while, and the bug count keeps increasing...

  Cheers,

click to place and then gets gets usual window manager decoration,
spilling off the screen. Used to work until I obtained the upgrades
associated with a mainstream etch in november 2007.

There is a new version of twm in unstable, would you please try that one? And,
also, could you please try gthumb 3:2.10.8-1 from unstable?

I've tried to install twm (yes, I have an unstable box), but it doesn't even
start (I usually use Xfce). And have really no time to debug why it doesn't
start, sorry :s

So, please try the newer versions (no need to dist-upgrade, just install those
two packages from unstable -- or even just gthumb)

Thank you,

I had a look into the hardware description of my DELL notebook and it
says that the graphic card supports AGPx8. I also had no problems

Bug#461833: totem-xine as default

2008-02-10 Thread Bastien Nocera

So FWIW, I agree with Joss, since #370789 seems unlikely to be fixed
soon, totem-xine should be the default for lenny.

Perhaps there are reasons to prefer using the gstreamer version? I know
that totem used to default to xine, and switched to the well-working
 gstreamer 0.8 for etch.

If the error message were at least fixed to not lead users on a wild
goose chase for codecs, as I suggest in #464624, and it instead
suggested using totem-xine, that might be enough to leave
totem-gstreamer as the default. After all, libdvdcss2 has to be manually
installed to play most dvds, and so we can't aim for perfect dvd support
out of the box anyway. Unless something happens with discover or the
like to automate setting that up..

Liar liar, pants on fire.

Bug#457491: grub2: FTBFS continues, more in e-mail

2008-02-10 Thread Simon Raven
Package: grub2
Version: 1.96+20080209-1
Followup-For: Bug #457491

hi,

I'm trying to backport grub2 to Etch. My installed GCC version is 4.1.1
(Etch's), nothing fancy (I also checked `cc --version' and it spat out:

=
cc (GCC) 4.1.2 20061115 (prerelease) (Debian 4.1.1-21)
...
=

I get this error on build:

=

the patch was applied as normal, but seems this hack is't helping
anything for Etch GCC at all. I've read the BTS messages, and it would
seem that that something else is in order.

I imagine I could remove or edit that patch, despite it being built with GCC
4.1.x.

Any input welcome,
simon

For this please install virtualbox-ose-source and then

This module should be located under:

The module above is from linux-modules-extra and is prebuilded.

If the module is builded please modprobe/or insmod it and make sure that

Hopefully this helps to get rid of the error.

Bug#465043: anthy: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review

2008-02-10 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: anthy
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Tuesday, January 22, 2008, I notified you of the beginning of a review
process
concerning debconf templates for anthy.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

Please try to avoid uploading anthy with these changes right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Wednesday, February 13, 2008,
when I will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
about Wednesday, March 05, 2008. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or
changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my
own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact
that I simultaneously work on many packages.

Around Thursday, March 06, 2008, I will contact you again and will send a final
patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Bug#464837: should warn about merciurial files

2008-02-10 Thread Chris Lamb
Hi,

A fix for .hgignore was commited by Frank Lichtenheld:

  r1201 | djpig | 2008-02-09 19:03:58 + (Sat, 09 Feb 2008) | 5 lines

Merge all the tags for vcs ignore files and vcs control
dirs. Since the explanations don't actually differ, different
tags make no sense. While at it, add the mercurial equivalents
  as well.

I think this is the right approach, but we could go further in merging a
few of the random checks for control files together. The attached patch
(against r1202):

 * Merges the

- vcs-ignore-file-in-package
- arch-inventory-file-in-package

tags into the package-contains-vcs-control-file tag, modifying the
   existing regression tests to suit.

 * Adds regression tests for .httags, .hg_archival.txt, .httags, etc.

The argument for this is basically an extension of Frank's: a developer
does not need to know exactly what the control file really does, just that
it is /something/ to do with revision control (and the file should be
removed).

In addition, this tag is trivially extendable to other control files.

What this patch doesn't do is apply the same cleanup to the diff-contains-
FOO-control-{file,dir} tags. Is this wanted?

Regards,

Bug#464006: Acknowledgement (psad: Missing alternatived dependency on system-log-daemon)

2008-02-10 Thread Michael Biebl
Hi Daniel,

could you give me a status update on this bug report? psad is the only
package which makes rsyslog uninstallable.
In case you are busy atm I could prepare a NMU, if you are ok with that.

Cheers,
Michael

thanks

I can't reproduce the bug with the same versions of software (x86, libc6 2.7-6,
linux 2.6.22-3-686 on SMP w/2 CPU cores, en_US.UTF-8 or ru_RU.UTF-8 locale).

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ echo -en '\xe1\xe2\xe3' | iconv -f windows-1255 ; echo
בגד

I.e., the output contains three characters. So my best guesses, so far, are:

1) Faulty memory. Please run memtest86 for at least 2 hours.

2) An issue with your shell prompt. Please add ; echo to your test command to
add a trailing newline.

Bug#464821: halibut: Conform with Vim addon policy

2008-02-10 Thread Colin Watson
On Fri, Feb 08, 2008 at 11:56:17PM -0500, James Vega wrote:
As of the 1:7.1-022+1 upload of Vim, /usr/share/vim/addons is not
included in Vim's runtimepath and therefore not automatically used by
Vim. The Vim Addon Policy[0] describes the suggested ways for a Debian
package to provide an addon's functionality to the user. Since
halibut only ships syntax/halibut.vim, it could also simply document
that the user can symlink the file to ~/.vim/syntax/halibut.vim.

I can understand why plugins should be disabled system-wide, but surely
syntax highlighting should be available automatically once the package
is installed? After all, in the absence of filetype detection you have
to use ':setf halibut' to enable it. It seems absurd to me to make users
jump through an extra hoop.

Bug#465051: meritous: segfault on drawing boss

2008-02-10 Thread Bas Wijnen
Package: meritous
Version: 1.2-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch,upstream

Meritous segfaults when trying to draw the first boss monster. The
attached patch fixes the problem. It's a buffer overflow. tail_x[i+1]
is written to with i == 9, but tail_x only has 10 elements (tail_y as
well, but tail_x is what overwrites boss_spr, at least on my machine).

Thanks,
Bas

Upgrading a Debian testing box to 3.0.5-2 from 3.0.5-1 (I believe) on my
AMD64 box broke the Plone CMF. In the Zope management interface it lists
my Plone folders by name with the following text in parethesis afterwords
This object from the CMFPlone product is broken! When I click on the
broken objects it loads a page with the following text: This object is
broken because the CMFPlone product that created it is no longer
installed or is installed incorrectly. Please contact the product
maintainer for assistance. Note that the data associated with this
product has not been lost, and will be accessible again if the product is

Can you please send me the output of find /var/lib/zope2.10/plone3-site?

Could their be some old config files hanging around that caused this
confusion and also relate to this bug?

Are you using the plone3-site instance or an hand-made one?

I've found a bug in bison parser (parser.y). Fixng it makes the bug

(If it's OK, I could NMU the package as flex is in build-dependencies

Bug#465054: xserver-xorg-video-nv: takes like 15 seconds to switch from X to a vt/console (ctrl-alt-fn)

2008-02-10 Thread Helmut Grohne
Package: xserver-xorg-video-nv
Version: 1:2.1.7-1
Severity: normal

Switching from X to a console takes like 15 seconds or more. From within
X I press ctrl-alt-f1. The display does not update anymore (clock,
etc.). After about 12 to 17 seconds the vt appears in text mode.
Switching back to X is fast. I can then see a bit cpu load on gkrellm
for those 12 to 17 seconds.

This is a major annoyance for me, as I regularly need this feature,
still it doesn't look important to me, as this normally isn't needed.

Bug#465055: php-ps: FTBFS: libgd2-dev not available anymore.

2008-02-10 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Package: php-ps
Version: 1.3.6-2

Hi,

You have a build dependency on:
libgd2-dev ( 2.0.0) | libgd2-xpm-dev ( 2.0.0) | libgd2-noxpm-dev ( 2.0.0)

The buildd's will only consider the first of those, and then fail.
You'll want to remove that part.

Bug#465060: nsd: Please add LSB formatted dependency info in init.d script

2008-02-10 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: nsd
Version: 2.3.6-1
Tags: patch
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: missing-dependency

To be able to check boot script order, and also to be able to start
boot scripts in parallel, it is important to know the dependencies of
the various boot scripts. The Linux Software Base specifies a init.d
header file format useful for this purpose, and adding such header to
the anacron init.d script would make it possible for me to use this
information to check the current sequence and to speed up the debian
boot.

I am working on a system to update the boot sequence based on these
dependencies, and would like see this as the default in Lenny.
Because of this, it is nice if the dependencies was updated quickly.

URL:http://refspecs.freestandards.org/LSB_2.1.0/LSB-generic/LSB-generic/initscrcomconv.html
documents the LSB header format. Some debian notes are available from
URL:http://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts.

Here is a patch to document the dependencies. I hope this is correct.

that task might be better left to the sendsigs script in runlevel 0
