Bug#512458: [Piuparts-devel] Bug#512458: Add offline instructions
pe, 2009-01-23 kello 06:14 +0800, jida...@jidanni.org kirjoitti: And the user recently did a apt-get update, so /var/lib/apt/lists is fully up to date. $ ls /var/lib/apt/lists|wc -l 24 The user is now offline, and wants to do # piuparts -m ... --bindmount= ... bla.deb and cannot figure out what to use, to make sure all 24 files will be accessible to piuparts if needed, etc. If apt can access the directory you give to --bindmount as a mirror, then it works. If something needs to be done for that, then that needs to be documented elsewhere. The piuparts manpage is for documenting piuparts, not how to set up apt repositories. Another question is if he uses --bindmount=/var/lib/apt/lists, will he risk injuring any of those files? Bug#512679: initramfs-tools: 'more' pager is broken in initramfs shell

Bug#512645: lintian reports errors in package foo, because it does not honor files in the foo-data package, on which foo depends
Hello Russ, Russ Allbery schrieb: Right, the problem is that Lintian checks a package at a time, so while it's checking foo, it has no access to foo-data. Lintian is designed to check each package in isolation. It's difficult to do more than that and still support things like lintian.d.o. OK, I see... That being said, there is a possible hack that we can apply here that may fix the common case of checking a *.changes file for a set of related packages and on lintian.d.o. See the discussion in #456657 for more details. Well, I have no clue about lintian internals, but isn't the check for the dangling /usr/lib/libfoo.so - /usr/lib/libfoo.so.$SONAME in libfoo-dev packages a similar exception? At least it throws no error if /usr/lib/libfoo.so.$SONAME does exist in the libfoo$SONAME package and libfoo-dev depends on it. This is why binary-without-manpage explicitly says to add an override for this case, though. The binary-without-manpage warning is only the simplest one that crossed my mind. A more complicated example is realted to debian/foo.menu files. Imagine the same situation than before: A binary /usr/bin/foo in the foo package and all arch-indep content of /usr/share in the foo-data package. foo denepds on foo-data. Now I add a debian/foo.menu file which contains the lines 'command=/usr/bin/foo' and 'icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/foo.xpm'. Of course, since the file /usr/share/pixmaps/foo.xpm cannot be found in the foo package, lintian throws the menu-icon-missing warning. This will be another lintian overrides. :/ On the other hand, if I move the menu file to debian/foo-data.menu, the menu-icon-missing warning will be gone, but the menu-command-not-in-package warning will appear instead, since /usr/bin/foo is not part of foo-data. Even worse, I cannot make foo-data depend on foo, because I have to avoid circular dependencies. So all I can do is make foo-data recommend foo, but then it is still possible that a user mistakenly install foo-data without foo and ends up with a dead menu entry. Please, I really don't want to add a bunch of lintian overrides for reasonably packaged split-up packages. ;) Cheers, Fabian -- Dipl.-Phys. Bug#512365: gmetad: stack based buffer overflow in process_path
On Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 10:01:13PM +, Stu Teasdale wrote: I can see that the patch was adjusted several times and the current version still has the code that sends the entire tree, could that somehow be used for a DoS attack? sending the entire tree through the network is also triggered when a request is received to the non-interactive port (TCP/8651) and which is under the same ACL setup and accessible to any attacker. the original report was sent to the developer mailing list together with a proposal to add a feature which will loop through several provided paths and therefore execute the code that dumps the whole tree several times in a tight loop. references to a DoS posibility were done linked to that code (which does not exist in the packaged by debian versions of ganglia) and that hasn't been committed either and therefore this bug report focuses on the buffer overflow instead as defined in AVE-2009-0241. But I cannot find a difference. On a etch machine deleting the entries of /var/lib/krb5kdc and running the commands works fine. Yeah, that's the problem. It's a known bug in MIT Kerberos 1.6. If you create an empty database with kdb5_util, the propagation will then work correctly, but it won't cope with not having a database at all. It will presumably be fixed in a later release, but as there isn't an upstream fix yet (so far as I know) I'm afraid lenny is likely to release with that problem. :/ Yeah, thanks replication works now. Bug#512565: totem-xine: Segmentation fault when disabling visual effects
reassign 512565 libxine1 1.1.14-4 thanks Le jeudi 22 janvier 2009 à 19:26 +, Laurentiu Pancescu a écrit : I can also reproduce the hang by clicking the visual effects checkbox while audio is paused (it happens at the first click, going from disabled to enabled, unlike the segmentation fault). After it hung, I stopped it with Ctrl-C in gdb and generated another stack trace for the hang (attached). I assumed it's the same bug as the crash, but the stack trace looks somewhat different. Should I file another bug for the hang? This is indeed a different bug (race condition vs. deadlock), but the root cause is the same: xine-lib doesn’t seem to support correctly enabling or disabling visual effects at runtime. In the crash issue, it is trying to access a resource that has been freed, presumably from another thread. In the deadlock issue, it is waiting for a mutex that will never be released since it has been freed in the meantime. (The very idea of freeing a mutex that may be used at any time is, well, “interesting”.) -- .''`. : :' : We are debian.org. Could you please try 5.0.51a from backports.org? If you're still seeing the error with 5.0.51a, you're likely affected by #28837. Any chance that 5.0.67 will make it into debian-stable any time soon? No, lenny will ship with 5.0.51a, but if you're really affected by #28837 we could of course add a backport of the bugfix to our package in lenny. Bug#512740: Sparc disk labels broken on LDOM and Parallel installs
Package: parted Architecture: i386 Version: 1.8.8.git.2008.03.24-11.1 Severity: grave Tags: patch I was exposed to this bug while trying to do a second install of Debian into an LDOM, but its not the only way to trigger it... Parted currently has a bug where if you try to install to more than one disk at once (2 parallel installs), or on LDOM you try to install more than one LDOM which has a physical disk as a backing device, parted will trash the disk label, rendering the disk unusable until you go and relabel it with the 'format' command in solaris. Ubuntu got around this by applying a patch (written by David S. Miller and Fabio M. Di Nitto who happen to do a lot of work on the sparc Linux port). This applies cleanly against the current Lenny source package for parted (which means that the udeb can be rebuilt and installs will be fixed. From the patch description: ## sparc-new-label.dpatch by David S. Miller and ## Fabio M. Di Nitto fabbi...@ubuntu.com ## ## All lines beginning with `## DP:' are a description of the patch. ## DP: Fix sparc disk label generation. This is required for LDOM and ## DP: parallel installations with Solaris 10. I've attached this as it applies cleanly so there's little maintainer work (hopefully). I've set the severity to grave as it causes data loss on the disk you're installing on (if youre already using some partitions on that disk for something else). It also blocks install if its the second disk you've installed Debian on (feel free to correct me!). Bug#512741: dh-make-php: Bug in dh-make-pecl causes some packages (like fileinfo) to fail to untar
Package: dh-make-php Version: 0.2.12 Severity: normal When dh-make-pecl executes the command /usr/bin/pecl download on line 126 it fails to take into consideration that pecl may give warnings. The awk command cannot extract the proper PECLPACKAGENAME from the output. An example: `/usr/bin/pecl download xdebug` gives: downloading xdebug-2.0.4.tgz ... Starting to download xdebug-2.0.4.tgz (288,497 bytes) done: 288,497 bytes File /home/sander/projects/fileinfo/xdebug-2.0.4.tgz downloaded and PECLPACLAGENAME is xdebug-2.0.4.tgz. But for e.g. fileinfo this fails, because fileinfo gives a warning: ~$ /usr/bin/pecl download fileinfo WARNING: pear/Fileinfo is deprecated in favor of channel://php-src/ext/fileinfo/in php sources downloading Fileinfo-1.0.4.tgz ... Bug#510251: postgresql-8.3-plr: does not build against R 2.8

Should I report it to the plr mailing list? No. I can reproduce this problem which is caused by the fact that the r-base-core package is lacking /usr/share/R/includes/Rdevices.h . I will reassign the bug report to this package. Thanks for getting this back into Debian - at first I thought I would have to build it myself... You can work around this problem for your local installation by just copying src/include/Rdevices.h into the plr source directory. The you can build the package for the moment. make[1]: Entering directory /usr/local/src/plr/plr-8.3.0.6' sed 's,MODULE_PATHNAME,$libdir/plr,g' plr.sql.in plr.sql cc -g -Wall -O2 -fpic -I. -I/usr/lib/R/include -I/usr/share/R/include -I. -I/usr/include/postgresql/8.3/server -I/usr/include/postgresql/internal -DPKGLIBDIR=\/usr/lib/postgresql/8.3/lib\ -DDLSUFFIX=\.so\ -DR_HOME_DEFAULT=\/usr/lib/R\ -c -o plr.o plr.c In file included from plr.c:33: plr.h:61:22: error: Rdevices.h: No such file or directory -- here you can see the problem. BTW, if you detect a bug which prevents to build a package from source it is definitely higher than wishlist. In most cases it is an RC critical bug. If you are unsure you can set it at least to normal. If I reassign the package to r-base-core it is not RC for this package but at least important because of the problem it causes for plr. Bug#512747: coreutils: users does not report users logged in under X
Package: coreutils Version: 6.10-6 Severity: normal I got the shock of my life when I found that even with two separae users logged under two virtual terminals (X.org, KDE 4, from experimental), users does NOT report ANY users logged in on the system. This is when running users command from konsole. So, I go to tty1, log in user1, user2 from tty2, user3 from tty3, etc. and userX from X. I try running the users command from both X and each tty separately, and find that users reports all users logged in from ttys; but not those loggedin on X. Is there any possibility that the system r00ted? There is nothing suspicious so far; but reason I ran users was that the system is too swappy with 2 users on X; but I have only 512 megs of RAM. And I run firehol with the default client-all.conf file in /etc/firehol/firehol.conf. So, not easy to get cracked; unless something smart has happend. And I am on a dynamic IP; but the system is connected most of time. I am no security expert, so any questions to rule out /confirm a cracked system is welcome. PS:- Is there is a security issue here? Bug#510607: Another patch is required
The applied patch http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=d06193f311102b2c990ec5f66b470ea49ecc73a4 does not fix the problem completely, 2.6.26-13 is still not yet working for me. Closer investigation of the commit history between 2.6.26 (July 13th) and the patch applied shows that there are a few other patches. When I apply http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=8d8acd46fb7e962ac04baef5a118d431fae6b0f6 the USB WLAN stick works for me. I suggest to apply this patch as well. The maintainer of the driver confirms that this patch is save for 2.6.26: http://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2009/01/msg00394.html (the patch he is proposing additionally in his mail is already in 2.6.26). Bug#512748: /etc/init.d/spamassassin does not stop spamd
Package: spamassassin Version: 3.2.5-2 Severity: important Initrc script for spamd uses start-stop-daemon with --exec option both for starting and stopping. This option makes start-stop-daemon check the /proc/PID/exe value. On my system spamd process have /proc/pid/exe pointing to /usr/bin/perl, not to /usr/sbin/spamd, so spamd starts ok, but refuses to stop saying a message: No /usr/sbin/spamd found running; none killed. Since spamd uses pid file, I think it will be trivial to remove --exec parameter from stop and reload commands in /etc/init.d/spamassassin. Bug#512750: request-tracker3.6: SQLite is unsupported, documentation needed
Package: request-tracker3.6 Version: 3.6.7-4 Severity: serious Justification: maintainer's opinion By default 'apt-get install request-tracker3.6' will pull in rt3.6-db-sqlite as the first choice, and users opting for automatic database management (dbconfig-common) will get an SQLite installation with no further (database-related) questions. This is unfortunate because upstream considers the SQLite database backend unsupported and intended for development and testing purposes only. The default database choice was thus a bad call on my part, as I have recently realized. My rationale for the choice was to get a working installation automatically, and SQLite is just about the only way to do that currently. It mostly works and we have received no bug reports about it, but upstream says it has a few known problems. While some people will probably realize they should use MySQL or PostgreSQL for production installations, this leaves the rest with an installation that's officially unsupported. And naturally many of them are going to go to the upstream rt-users list for support anyway. It is too late to change the functionality for Lenny, the only thing we can do is to add documentation. As discussed with upstream, the plan is to insert prominent warnings in the request-tracker3.6 and rt3.6-db-sqlite package descriptions and README.Debian. Also, we intend to put a recipe for mysql/pg migration on the web at http://pkg-request-tracker.alioth.debian.org/ and make README.Debian point there. This way we can improve the recipe even after the release and upstream can refer the end users there. I'm setting the initial severity to 'serious': not getting these changes in lenny means we need to discuss if dropping RT from the release altogether is the next best alternative. We intend to get a fixed package in sid RSN, so hopefully it doesn't come to that. -- Niko Tyni nt...@debian.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#512755: debconf question unnecessary and doesn't use a2enmod
Package: libapache2-mod-python Version: 3.3.1-6 Tags: l10n Hi, The package currently asks whether it should enable the module, and explains that this is necessary if you want to use it. When someone installs the package, it's obvious they in principle want to use it. In the rare case (which?) that they don't, they can disable it in the Apache configuration. It enables itself by using ln -s, while there's an interface available for it: a2enmod. I propose that the debconf question is removed and that the package just enables itself upon installation through a2enmod. A package that does this right already is libapache2-mod-php5. thanks, Thijs -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#512753: wxGlade/GNUmed: starts up in random position/size/workspace which used to not happen
Package: python-wxgtk2.8 Version: 2.8.7.1-1.1 Severity: normal I noticed in both wxGlade and GNUmed the following behaviour: Most of the time the application window (and the stderr redirect window) open up in random positions/sizes/workspaces on KDE. GNUmed tries to set its size upon startup to a value read from the database. This sometimes works but mostly not. Not sure how wxGlade handles setting the size at startup. Resizing the apps works but it's quite a nuisance for users. It used to work just fine until just a couple of days ago (say, 10 ?). I just noticed it with wxGlade today for the first time. I previously thought it was just a glitch of GNUmed but it now appears to become a pattern with wxPython based GUIs. poedit seems to work so far, however. Bug#227511: Just tag them wontfix and close the bugs
Matthias Klose a écrit : I disagree. At lest I'm using wontfix and close for valid bug reports, which are fixed in a later version, but are not fixed in the version before (i.e. gcc-3.3, gcc-4.0). 'wontfix' implies that there is a bug report, where there is no one. And even searching within the archived bug reports, skipping those tagged 'invalid' would limit your search to real bug reports. I totally agree with this. I was going to submit a similar bug report when I saw this one. Bug#504473: Bug #504473,RFA: gputils -- GNU PIC utilities
Hello, I read your RFA on gputils Debian package, and I would like to apply as an adoptor of your package. I'm a ~10-year user of Debian as a developer/system admin, and has some experience in packaging debs (though it was for closed in-house applications). I'm interested in adopting as I'm also a long-time user of PIC microcontroller (and gputils package) for my hobby electronics project. However, as I'm not an official DD, I'll need someone to sponsor me and upload created packages. Bug#512759: request-tracker3.8: Database schema - possible missing index for Postgres on Groups table
Package: request-tracker3.8 Version: 3.8.2-1~experimental1 Severity: normal Tags: patch This is a similar bug report to #512653. Tested on an instance with 50,000 tickets. Box has 4x3.2Ghz Xeon cores and a reasonable amount of memory. Although there are two existing indexes for the Groups table, I've been consistantly seeing one particular query slowing RT down under Postgres. The query is: SELECT * FROM Groups WHERE LOWER(Domain) = LOWER($1) AND LOWER(Type) = LOWER($2); And I've tested with the following substitutions for the bind: SELECT * FROM Groups WHERE LOWER(Domain) = LOWER('SystemInternal') AND LOWER(Type) = LOWER('Privileged'); Under load, I've seen execution times of 400ms on this query, though on an unloaded box it's much lower: rt=# explain analyze SELECT * FROM Groups WHERE LOWER(Domain) = LOWER('SystemInternal') AND LOWER(Type) = LOWER('Privileged'); QUERY PLAN - Seq Scan on groups (cost=0.00..5628.92 rows=5 width=66) (actual time=0.023..109.991 rows=1 loops=1) Filter: ((lower((domain)::text) = 'systeminternal'::text) AND (lower((type)::text) = 'privileged'::text)) Total runtime: 110.039 ms (3 rows) Creating a specific index for this query speeds things up significantly (about 1000x faster in terms of actual execution speed): rt=# CREATE INDEX Groups3 ON Groups (LOWER(Domain), LOWER(Type)); CREATE INDEX rt=# explain analyze SELECT * FROM Groups WHERE LOWER(Domain) = LOWER('SystemInternal') AND LOWER(Type) = LOWER('Privileged'); QUERY PLAN --- Bitmap Heap Scan on groups (cost=4.35..23.61 rows=5 width=66) (actual time=0.128..0.130 rows=1 loops=1) Recheck Cond: ((lower((domain)::text) = 'systeminternal'::text) AND (lower((type)::text) = 'privileged'::text)) - Bitmap Index Scan on groups3 (cost=0.00..4.34 rows=5 width=0) (actual time=0.122..0.122 rows=1 loops=1) Index Cond: ((lower((domain)::text) = 'systeminternal'::text) AND (lower((type)::text) = 'privileged'::text)) Total runtime: 0.172 ms (5 rows) I've seen this query called quite often - in fact pretty much any time a permissions check is invoked. Rather than adding this INDEX, is it necessary to make these case insensitive? The LOWERs are put in by _MakeClauseCaseInsensitive of DBIx::SearchBuilder::Handle::Pg, which is called on line 362 of RT::Record by LoadByCols. The particular queries which this INDEX deal with are called by: LoadSystemInternalGroup of Group_Overlay.pm LoadSystemRoleGroup of Group_Overlay.pm Given that there are only 9 distinct types in the groups table, would it be better to remove the case change on at least the types column? That said, I can't imagine it being that easy to do so for one column... Anyway, digression aside, patch attached. Bug#444708: Status of the ITA
Hi, what's the status of this ITA, are you still actively working on it? It would be nice to have more up-to-date parrot packages and also a package for perl6. I don't think you need a confirmation for bug #382147 being fixed before you make the upload. You can still upload and then you will automatically see, if it builds fine on ia64 or not and can fix it otherwise. I would not stall the progress because of that. Relocating this directory to /var/tmp/dgvirus seems like an easy fix, as /var is tipically sized for larger files. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-6-686 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages dansguardian depends on: ii adduser 3.102 Add and remove users and groups ii clamav 0.94.dfsg.2-1~volatile1 anti-virus utility for Unix - comm ii libbz2-1.0 1.0.3-6 high-quality block-sorting file co ii libc62.3.6.ds1-13etch8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libclamav4 0.93.3.dfsg-volatile1 anti-virus utility for Unix - libr ii libesmtp51.0.3-1+b1 LibESMTP SMTP client library ii libgcc1 1:4.1.1-21 GCC support library ii libgmp3c22:4.2.1+dfsg-4 Multiprecision arithmetic library ii libssl0.9.8 0.9.8c-4etch4 SSL shared libraries ii libstdc++6 4.1.1-21The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii perl 5.8.8-7etch6Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3-13 compression library - runtime dansguardian recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#510251: r-base-core is lacking /usr/share/R/includes/Rdevices.h
reassign 510251 postgresql-8.3-plr thanks Andreas, First off, thanks for maintaining pl-r. I wasn't aware that it has landed in your lap. I was aware that the Pg maintainers didn't really want it (for lack of R expertise) but I had no spare capacity to take it on myself. On 23 January 2009 at 14:10, Andreas Tille wrote: | On Fri, 23 Jan 2009, Andreas Tille wrote: | | You can work around this problem for your local installation by just | copying src/include/Rdevices.h into the plr source directory. It also affected things I maintain such as the RPy package. So the error is plainly with the client package. It is not an R issue inasmuch as that these interface were never public (yet pl/R is a well-known example even used in the 'R Extensions' manual about embedding). | I learned that Rgraphics.h is lacking as well | and once you include these both in the plr source tree and try to | build against R 2.8 you get something like: Did you talk Joe Conway about this? Joe as upstream author has always been very responsive clueful when I contacted him about pl/R (which I had played with over the years). Now the final question for Faheem: Pl/R has existed in Debian for years. Why did you think you needed to rebuild it for etch? Were you lacking a particular combination of versions of R and/or Pg on etch ? I'm sure we can sort all this out.
