Bug#518274: egroupware: Cannot logout using Safari

2009-03-04 Thread Tom Wright
Package: egroupware
Version: 1.4.004-2.dfsg-4.1
Severity: normal

When clicking the logout button in the Safari web browser, the following error
page appears instead of the "You have successfully logged out" screen:

Fatal Error: It appears that you have not created the database tables for
eGroupWare. Click here to run setup.

where "here" is a link the /setup. The user is not logged
out after this appears: if I click back then I can continue using egroupware,
even parts which have not been cached. The session also appears from within
the egroupware admin interface until it times out.

This problem doesn't happen when using Opera or Firefox/Iceweasel under linux.
It also doesn't happen when using Konqueror (which has the same innards as
Safari, afaik).

Bug#518264: dpkg-dev: dpkg-genchanges fails to process packages with differing versions

Where does it "seem to think" ? Can you be more precise ?

Can you copy/paste the error message ? What version of the apache source
package can we use to test ?

In theory, it doesn't care much of the binary version since it uses
debian/files as list of .deb and doesn't try to compute their names IIRC.

Cheers,

Bug#419209: lvm2: Hangs during snapshot creation

Possibly because there are many people using LVM snapshotting who haven't
seen this bug? I use schroot with LVM snapshots all the time on a server
running the lenny kernel, and have never seen this bug.

Which was not a supported configuration. Linux 2.4 was supported in etch
only for purposes of upgrading, not for a running system. Your decision to
run an unsupported system actually makes it harder to track down this bug,
since the only baseline we have for comparison in your case is a system with
none of the relevant components in common.

Claiming that the 2.6 kernel is unstable only undermines your credibility.

The original bug reporter claims that the hang only occurs with newer
versions of the lvm2 userspace tools. You could try downgrading to the etch
version of lvm2, to see whether this resolves the problem for you.

What does dmesg show for the system after the snapshot has hung?

Are you sure you did it right ?

In any case, it doesn't sync here.

I'll try to fix by s/idstr/flags/ and report if that solves the issue.

Thanks in advance.

How, then, should the version string (needed to construct the correct
tarball filename) be determined from the upstream branch?

Bug#468066: ALSA defaults

The default device is detected automatically by MPD. The ALSA plugin
chooses the device "default", like any other ALSA program. It's up to
libasound2 then to decide which device to use. There is nothing we
can do further in MPD.

I'm actually surprised this ever worked, since it means you're running an
afsd built with a different architecture than the underlying kernel
module, and I'm not sure that the types are guaranteed to match in the
syscall interface between the two. But maybe I'm too skeptical and people
already thought about that.

Version: 1.4.8.dfsg1-2

Bug #448452 is back, but for a different reason this time. Since
openafs-modules-source is now architecture-specific, it is no longer
possible to build openafs modules for linux-image-2.6.26-1-amd64 on the
i386 architecture.

(I think you were intending to fix the architecture specificity of
openafs-modules-source anyway, but here’s another reason.)

We tried to work around this by force-installing the amd64
openafs-modules-source instead. The module built, but afsd failed to
start. This may or may not be a related problem.

  mega-man:~# /etc/init.d/openafs-client start
  Starting AFS services: openafs afsd.
  afsd: All AFS daemons started.
afsd: Can't mount AFS on /afs(22)
  fs: Invalid argument.

Everything worked using openafs-modules-source 1.4.7.

2009-03-04 Thread Scaldov M.V.
Package: ppp
Version: 2.4.4rel-10.1
Severity: important

pppd does not support option (interface renaming). It is vital
for distinguish pppoe and pptp interfaces when establishing rouing in
non-common way. For example, one has pptp and pppoe provider interfaces
and pptp/dun client interfaces and he wants to route part of clients to
the specific provider. Due to unknown interface name it is impossible
to use iptables-restore from file as well as to set up routing
in /etc/ppp/ip-up.

Bug#517650: lintian: changes made to collection scripts are not reflected unless a package changes

2009-03-04 Thread Raphael Geissert

thanks

Attached mbox should do it.

It would help me a lot if you could merge the collection-related changes (this
one, the one about running them in parallel, and any other I might be
missing) so that I can make the necessary changes to drop the Order field and
smartly run the collection scripts based on their deps. This would also allow
us to start moving bits out of unpack/unpack-* and in to collection/ scripts.

Winbind's log in the case where the failure occurs might help.

Actually, the point is helping in finding what upstream patch did fix
that issue as you confirmed it *has* been fixed.

If we find|have the right patch, "maybe" we can consider adding it to
an upcoming point release of samba (with the rationale that it fixes an
identified regression).

Otherwise, there is basically nothing we can do as the bug is fixed by
more recent upstream versions.

Bug#518266: cryptsetup: determining available hashes/ciphers/keysize

2009-03-04 Thread Matt Taggart
Package: cryptsetup
Version: 2:1.0.6-7
Severity: wishlist

The cryptsetup(8) man page mentions the default hash, cipher, and keysize
values for different cases, but I am looking for a way to determine what
values are available. Looking at the source it seems to determine this from
/proc/crypto (so I guess depends on what kernel modules are loaded?).

Could cryptsetup have an option to print available options? Maybe if you
invoked a flag with "list" like

  cryptsetup --cipher list

it could list available options?

Also I think only certain combinations are supported, it would be nice if
somehow it could list those too.

Thanks,

And also inherently unreliable, because these symbols are from different
builds than the main binary packages. Have you run into many problems of
this sort, where the symbols don't actually match up with the packages in
the archive?

Actually, no. An *older* version. Reverting the patch at

effectively get you that version.

I think this problem should be solved in Privoxy and not in Torbutton:
"localhost" should mean both 127.0.0.1 and ::1 on a dual-stack system if
the application support both IPv4 and IPv6. Or at least, that is the
behaviour system administrators have learned to expect, as it is the one
followed by most daemons (e.g. OpenSSH).

Bug#518260: xine-ui on amd64 has gtk2 window border

2009-03-04 Thread Nathaniel Homier
Package: xine-ui
Version: 0.99.5+cvs20070914-2.1~lenny2
Severity: minor

Xine-ui on amd64 has 2 windows. One window displays video and the other
window displays a controller. The controller window is a themeable
display of controls like play/pause and stop. The controller window
should never have gtk window borders. The video window however can have
gtk window borders. The reason that the controller window can not have
gtk window borders is because it makes xine-ui themes look real ugly and
anyway the proper behavior is without window borders. Lenny i386 does
have the proper behavior. I suppose this is too minor an issue for an
update to be issued for an Lenny point release, but it would be great if
this would be fixed and also put in backports.

Hello,

Franck Joncourt wrote:

Hi Sébastien,

What about this bug?

I didn't forget about this bug, your mails are the last ones in my
inbox (I'm using an inbox-zero process).

Have you been able to reproduce the problem?

I also tried without success on my machine at work, an x86-64 running
an old Mandriva system, with Net::Pcap 0.16, libpcap 0.9.1. This bug
seems to be either very tied to the x86 or to a recent version
version of the libpcap.

I've also tried and failed to link Net::Pcap with libpcap 1.0.0,
which is problematic.

Do you intend to update libnet-pcap-perl?

I intend to update Net::Pcap.

Should we patch libnet-pcap-perl in order to remove the ability to be
interrupted by a signal for this release?

I've answered Martín's concerns in the CPAN-RT ticket:

I'd say many Perl users don't know how signals are actually
handled. In fact, more than a few are surprised that signals are
not immediately delivered. IIRC, I added this code to Net::Pcap
because I had a couple of requests (by private mail, not on CPAN-
RT) to modify Net::Pcap so it behaves this way.

I also remember explaining this to a couple of colleagues, and how
to enable "unsafe" signals.

So, as you already suggested..

I think maybe that could be nice to have a way to enable/disable the
current behavior of the pcap_loop function against interrupts.

.. I'll add a new function, pcap_perl_settings() to address this
particular issue.

Having a note about the possible problem would also be good as Martin
pointed out.

I'll add a note about signals, pointing to the pcap_perl_settings()
function.

I'll also have to fix the problems with libpcap 1.0.0

Bug#471410: Installing accessibility packages by default?

2009-03-04 Thread Samuel Thibault
[Sorry to debian-accessibility people, re-sending with proper To:]

Hello,

It has been suggested a few times (471410, 511329, 516723) to
add an "accessibility" item to tasksel, which would e.g. install
gnome-accessibility. The task would be automatically selected when
accessibility features was used during d-i itself.

However, Mario Lang raised:

`While it is a possible approach to have the installer explicitly
select packages for the users who are going to use the machine,
it is also obvious that an administrator might not know in advance
that a person with special needs is going to use this machine.
If we think this through, we realize that what would be most desireable
is to have accessibility infrastructure installed by default on a
default desktop, so that a person with special needs can just activate
it at login time if they need to.'

`What if, for example, you walk up to a friend/coworker and talk about
some issue. You end up wanting to show them something, so you'd
actually like to login on tehir Linux machine with accessibility enabled
so that you can work together on the project. However, since nobody
thought their machine would ever be used by a disabled person, the
necessary software would not be installed.'

`That is why I think ultimately, accessibility infrastructure needs to be part
of the default desktop installation. There are a few other scenarios as well,
like public workstations (for instance in universities) running Linux.
Currently, for them to be accessible, the admin staff needs to know all the ins
and outs of accessibility, or they at least have to make a conscious decission
about providing it to users. If accessibility would work by default,
the chance of success for disabled people trying to find an accessible
computer would be much higher.'

So, I'm asking: would it seem reasonable to ask tasksel to install
accessibility packages along desktop packages?

I have tried to install Lenny with a gnome desktop, I ended up with
2.3GB disk usage. Adding gnome-accessibility and brltty used only 83MB
more disk. The figures are probably quite similar in the case of a KDE
desktop and kde-accessibility+brltty. Considering the great help it can
be to a not-so-small part of our users, is it too big?

I have also tried with a base system: 560MB disk usage. Adding brltty
and speakup brought 21MB. Maybe that more a concern. I'd tend to think
that people installing a base system usually already know what they will
want to install, and installing the gnome meta package would pull
gnome-accessibility as it's Recommended by gnome-desktop-environment.

Samuel

Bug#471410: Installing accessibility packages by default?

2009-03-04 Thread Samuel Thibault

Samuel

I also see this. Disabling the "Max CPUID Value Limit" in the BIOS
CPU configuration allows the kernel to boot.

However, applying the patch in the link above did not allow the
kernel to boot without this option being disabled. I applied
directly to the current linux-2.6 source package, then built and
installed it. I'll try again tomorrow with both patch1 and patch2
(this was just patch1), and see if that makes a difference.

Roger

Bug#518256: cups: HW margins in PPD file are ignored - top first cm not printed

2009-03-04 Thread Ladislav Dobias
Package: cups
Version: 1.3.9-14
Severity: important

Hi,

after upgrading last week, printed pages have lost top first cm, and there is a
large space at the bottom too.
After searching on net, I found LP bug similar to my problem:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/282186
and it seems the problem is in pstopdf script.

If I use the pstopdf from the bug above (final link -
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19430834/pstopdf ), than it works correctly for
me.

Steps to reproduce:
- have installed some real PPD (I have HP OfficeJet R65) in CUPS
- print a test page to PDF through CUPS, it shows printable area:
  /usr/sbin/cupsfilter -m application/vnd.cups-pdf -p /etc/cups/ppd/R65.ppd
/usr/share/cups/data/testprint.ps >test1.pdf

- after some checking, I realized, that the paper size is taken from
/etc/papersize and PPD is ignored. This is not corect.

I run more scenarios:
1) original pstopdf
  echo letter > /etc/papersize
  In output, there was:

 Imageable Area
 Page Size: 8.5x11.0in 215.9x279.4mm
 Lower-Left: 0.0x0.0in 0.0x0.0mm
 Upper-Right: 8.5x11.0in 215.9x279.4mm

  I.e. PPD was ignored.

2) original pstopdf
   echo a4 > /etc/papersize
   In output, there was:

  Imageable Area
  Page Size: 8.26x11.7in 209.9x297.1mm
  Lower-Left: 0.0x0.0in 0.0x0.0mm
  Upper-Right: 8.26x11.7in 209.9x297.1mm

   I.e. PPD was ignored.

3) after I replaced pstopdf from the link above, I had correct results:
   echo letter > /etc/papersize
   # yes, even with letter it reads correctly PPD: A4 with real margins

  Imageable Area
  Page Size: 7.99x11.07in 203.0x281.2mm
  Lower-Left: 0.14x0.5in 3.4x12.7mm
  Upper-Right: 8.13x11.57in 206.5x293.9mm

I.e. PPD was used correctly for paper size and margins.

It seems, that this was already fixed in cups 1.3.9-3, but now in 1.3.9-14 it
is again here. Why is it back?

Workaround for me: use pstopdf from the link above.

Regards,
Lada

P.S.
It is really important bug, mainly for my wife :-)

I'm using the latest emacs-snapshot packages from that URL.

The metapackage listed above is a dummy I created because a silly
package has "Depends: emacs" instead of "Depends: emacsen", and
without that dummy package I would be forced to install emacs22 as
well as the unofficial emacs-snapshot.

Hmm, it looks like that silly package is actually this one,
w3m-el-snapshot: http://bugs.debian.org/506106. I didn't kick up a
stink about it because emacs-snapshot is unofficial, so
w3m-el-snapshot isn't obliged to support it.

It seems that you are using an unofficial Debian emacs package.

What's your Emacs version?

I have confirmed that the official package emacs22 22.2+2-5 and the
unofficial package emacs-snapshot 1:20090222-1 from
http://emacs.orebokech.com are working fine.

Just to be sure: have you restarted nautilus since you upgraded the
shared-mime-info package?

Bug#517753: Solved !

2009-03-04 Thread Nicolas BERNAERTS

The problem is solved !

In fact, it was a problem of compatibility between the 2.6.26 kernel and
my RTL8111 network interface.
I realized it as I found there was a huge amount of dropped frames on
the NIC.

After some searches, I found that the 2.6.26 kernel (the one of Lenny)
is using a wrong NIC driver for RTL8111.
I've also found on some Ubuntu forum how to replace the faulty driver by
the official driver from Realtek.
Once done, everything is back to normal. Mt-daapd is running fine as it
was before, serving all the Roku Soundbridge with no glitch.

For whoever having this problem, I've done a small guide explaining how
to solve it on Lenny or Squeeze :

http://bernaerts.dyndns.org/linux/49-debian-server-rtl8111

Thanks so much for your help, and sorry for all the trouble.

Cheers.

Bug#514212: console-setup: on UTF-8 console, caps lock is turned into a shift lock

Thanks for having implemented it!

Just an additional needed fixup: with the current svn, capitalization of
non-ascii letters does not work for two reasons:

- one needs to use locales to get locale-specific capitalization (e.g.
in turkish, capitalization of i is not I but an I with dot above).
- for compatibility reasons, when chr() is given a value between 0 and
0xff, it builds an 8bit char, not a unicode char. The problem is that
uc() then does not work in UTF-8 locales. Using pack("U",...) always
  produces a unicode char.

See attached patch.

Package: nautilus

This also happens with JPEG files (and possibly other image files). This
is what nautilus says when trying to open a jpeg file:

risk to your system.

Do not open the file unless you created the file yourself, or received

Bug#487873: Maybe fixed

2009-03-04 Thread Giovanni Mascellani
With a friend of mine I managed to find a probable source for this bug:
the program crashes in exif-gps.cpp, line 142.

  GPSData = ExifRead["Exif.GPSInfo.GPSMapDatum"];

GPSData was previously declared (line 129)

  Exiv2::Exifdatum& GPSData = ExifRead["Exif.GPSInfo.GPSVersionID"];

I fail to understand why you would want to write the value of the tag
Exif.GPSInfo.GPSMapDatum on the value of the tag
Exif.GPSInfo.GPSVersionID (GPSData is a reference). Moreover, trying
this write results in a segmentation fault. Commenting out line 142
seems to fix the problem.

If my diagnosis is correct, maybe should be forwarded upstream.

Regards, Giovanni.

Bug#507089: a little more info

2009-03-04 Thread Carsten Pfeiffer
kaffe apparently has its own copy of classpath, so the difference is no
surprise.

Also, the problem is related to the file.encoding property, and
File.canWrite() is not the actual problem, but File.exists().

import java.io.*;
import java.util.*;

public class Bla {

public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
//System.setProperty("file.encoding", "UTF-8");
File tempFile = new
File("/tmp/x/test-dir-write11fd33add11_1.tmp");
System.out.println("exists: " + tempFile.exists());
}

As is, the program correctly shows that the file does not exist. If you
comment in the System.setProperty() call, the program now tells you that the
file exists, even though it does not.

When specifying file.encoding on the commandline with -Dfile.encoding=... it
works both for UTF-8 and ISO-88591.

Hmm, now I'm not sure anymore about the encoding. If I leave out setting of
file.encoding, but instead call System.getProperties() once at the beginning,
File.exists() also returns true. Independent of whether or how I specify
file.encoding on the commandline.

Here's my properties:

Bug#518237: gnome-screensaver: Screen goes dark in fullscreen games

2009-03-04 Thread Stephan Fuhrmann
Package: gnome-screensaver
Version: 2.22.2-2
Severity: normal

The gnome screen blanker makes the screen darker after 10 minutes of gameplay on
Quake 3 based games, for example Enemy Territory (free download). Gameplay
degrades
because to that. Darkening is turned off in energy settings of the screen
saver, but it darkens anyway.

This means the following doesn't work:
1.) Darkening the display is turned off (=never), but it happens anyway.
2.) Activity in game window (mouse, keyboard) is not detected.

I verified the effect with stopping the screensaver (problem gone) and
continuing it (problem comes again).

The problem was not there with the old xscreensaver from Debian Etch.

Unfortunately I can't come up with an easier testcase.

Bug#518236: libnet-imap-simple-perl: empty return value of select() function

2009-03-04 Thread Daniel Parthey
Package: libnet-imap-simple-perl
Version: 1.17-3
Severity: important
Tags: patch

The following example program (when supplied with correct IMAP servername
and username/password combination) returns an empty "$messages" variable
when run against an IMAP server. Variable $messages should contain the
number of messages on the server, but it doesn't:

$ cat imap.pl
#!/usr/bin/perl
use Net::IMAP::Simple;
my $imap = Net::IMAP::Simple->new('imapserver.example.org') ||
   die "Unable to connect to IMAP: $Net::IMAP::Simple::errstr\n";
if(!$imap->login('correct-username','correct-password')){
print STDERR "Login failed: " . $imap->errstr . "\n";
exit(1);
}
my $messages = $imap->select('INBOX');
print $messages." messages\n";
$imap->quit;

This bug also affects lenny since it ships libnet-imap-simple-perl 1.17-3.

$ ./imap.pl # with broken Simple.pm (wrong)
 messages

$ ./imap.pl # with patched Simple.pm (correct)
0 messages

With the following patch the function returns the correct value "0 messages".

Yes, that's true. It might be better to not change too much and people
selecting the nodeadkeys might know how to change the mapping to make the
key sends the character engraved to the key.

Installing shared-mime-info solves the problem. This may very well be
a bug in a dependency of gajim--I don't know.

Those are a separate issue that I missed before. I'll have a look.

This is the one my patch fixed.

As the upstream author of libsndfile I can tell you that for
what that is testing, the difference between 1.02 and 1.021
is irrelevant. Its a product of floating point rounding inside
libvorbis. I did all my development and testing with libvorbis
from SVN which due to some improvements, gave results < 1.02.
The libvorbis in debian is older and produces slightly worse
results for that test.

> either the test is wrong, or the result is wrong.

The test is right for libvorbis-1.2.1 (still unreleased) and later
but wrong for libvorbis < 1.2.1.

Does gdm do it right so that the corresponding code could be snarfed

Bug#518057: ITP: libvariable-magic-perl -- module to associate user-defined magic to variables from Perl

2009-03-04 Thread Antonio Radici

With this module, you can add your own magic to any variable without having
to write a single line of XS.

Is it better than 'tie' approach?

Hi,
I suppose that they are different approach, with the tie approach you can use
only the
operational available to the actual perl type (array, or hash for example).

The main purpose of this ITP, anyway, is to add a missing dependency for
libb-hooks-endofscope-perl, currently packaged by the debian perl group (same
as this
ITP).

Cheers
Antonio

Bug#517569: 517...@bugs.debian.org

2009-03-04 Thread peter green

tags 517569 +patch
thanks

The attatched patch fixes the issue reported in this bug report

The patch also contains a build system fix to make the package buildable
with the new autoconf.

I've also bumped the build-dep on libavformat-dev and set a
build-conflict on old versions of libswscale-dev since this patch will
break building with older versions of them.

I've also noticed that the build uses libswscale if it is present on the
system but libswscale is not in the packages build-deps. Generally it is
considered bad pratice in debian to have builds which produce different
output depending on the packages installed on the build system.
