There isn't really a good way to do that today, and dpkg-architecture seems like the natural place to add this. So, I think a new variable like DEB_ARCH_64BIT would be a nice and handy thing to have. More likely DEB_ARCH_BITS=64 so that it covers the future too. However this information doesn't exist currently. Better yet DEB_HOST_ARCH_BITS. :) If we want to support that, we should add a new column to /usr/share/dpkg/cputable. Guillem, what do you think about it? Actually I had some discussion about exporting the wordsize and endianness few months ago on #debian-dpkg with Hector Oron. So I've done some preliminary coding, something like this could do, after some cleanup: http://git.hadrons.org/?p=debian/dpkg/dpkg.git;a=commitdiff;h=93b1eba1 Thinking about it now, probably easier for people to spell DEB_HOST_ARCH_ENDIAN rather than DEB_HOST_ARCH_ENDIANNESS, though. regards, guillem -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#534908: possibly symlink attack due to client-connect script
Package: openvpn Version: 2.1~rc15-1 Severity: important Tags: security OpenVPN's --client-connect option is described as follows: --client-connect script Run script on client connection. The script is passed the common name and IP address of the just-authenticated client as environmen- tal variables (see environmental variable section below). The script is also passed the pathname of a not-yet-created temporary file as $1 (i.e. the first command line argument), to be used by the script to pass dynamically generated config file directives back to OpenVPN. Since the script and it's argument should be visible in the process table, and client connect scripts might just be simple shell scripts, it could be possible for an attacker to launch a symlink attack: 1. monitor process table for connect script 2. create symlink, e.g. to overwrite /etc/shadow 3. watch the connect script clobber /etc/shadow I don't think this is a big threat, it's a problem that can easily be solved by using a proper tempfile (and ensuring that it gets deleted when no longer needed). -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_GB, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages openvpn depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.26 Debian configuration management sy ii libc6 2.9-18 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii liblzo2-2 2.03-1 data compression library ii libpam0g 1.0.1-9Pluggable Authentication Modules l ii libpkcs11-helper1 1.07-1 library that simplifies the intera ii libssl0.9.8 0.9.8k-3 SSL shared libraries ii openssl-blacklist 0.5-2 list of blacklisted OpenSSL RSA ke ii openvpn-blacklist 0.4list of blacklisted OpenVPN RSA sh Versions of packages openvpn recommends: ii net-tools 1.60-23The NET-3 networking toolkit Versions of packages openvpn suggests: ii openssl 0.9.8k-3 Secure Socket Layer (SSL) binary a ii resolvconf1.44 name server information handler -- debconf information excluded -- .''`. martin f. krafft madd...@d.o Related projects: : :' : proud Debian developer http://debiansystem.info `. `'` http://people.debian.org/~madduckhttp://vcs-pkg.org `- Debian - when you have better things to do than fixing systems digital_signature_gpg.asc Description: Digital signature (see http://martin-krafft.net/gpg/)

However, the IP of the connecting client is not known, and neither 'route' nor 'client-connect' can be used in the client-config-dir file (where iroute is used). Subnet topology is a great step forward, but it's currently not usable in situations where clients connect subnets to the server. The best solution would be to allow 'route' directives in the per-client config files in client-config-dir. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_GB, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages openvpn depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.26 Debian configuration management sy ii libc6 2.9-18 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii liblzo2-2 2.03-1 data compression library ii libpam0g 1.0.1-9Pluggable Authentication Modules l ii libpkcs11-helper1 1.07-1 library that simplifies the intera ii libssl0.9.8 0.9.8k-3 SSL shared libraries ii openssl-blacklist 0.5-2 list of blacklisted OpenSSL RSA ke ii openvpn-blacklist 0.4list of blacklisted OpenVPN RSA sh Versions of packages openvpn recommends: ii net-tools 1.60-23The NET-3 networking toolkit Versions of packages openvpn suggests: ii openssl 0.9.8k-3 Secure Socket Layer (SSL) binary a ii resolvconf1.44 name server information handler -- debconf information excluded -- .''`. martin f. krafft madd...@d.o Related projects: : :' : proud Debian developer http://debiansystem.info `. `'` http://people.debian.org/~madduckhttp://vcs-pkg.org `- Debian - when you have better things to do than fixing systems digital_signature_gpg.asc Description: Digital signature (see http://martin-krafft.net/gpg/)
Bug#534912: IMAP folder names having a dot (.) treated incorrectly
Package: mutt Version: 1.5.20-2 Severity: normal I upgraded mutt from 1.5.18 to 1.5.20 and noticed the following change in the behaviour. I have a lot of folders with names like list.debian-russian list.debian-devel etc. In the list of folders Mutt displays these folder names correctly, but when I try to select one (for ex., list.debian-russian), I see this in the status line: Selecting list/debian-russian... and then Unknown Mailbox: list/debian-russian (Failure) So, that's it. -- Package-specific info: Mutt 1.5.20 (2009-06-14) Copyright (C) 1996-2009 Michael R. Bug#534868: [Build-common-hackers] Bug#534868: use Makefile as stamp rather than config.status
On Saturday 27 June 2009 21:51:24 Robert Millan wrote: The stamp file used for configure target is config.status, which is always present with configure scripts generated by autoconf. However, not all configure scripts are generated by autoconf. A number of projects ship a script with similar semantics that will generate Makefile but not config.status (qemu and mplayer are two notable examples). I recommend that Makefile is used as stamp file instead. This prevents redundant configure runs on such packages. But not all configure scripts generate a Makefile either. A valid solution may be to provide a variable that allows specifying the stamp file. But the default has to stay config.status. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Bug#531307: dpkg-dev: dpkg-architecture should have a variable to flag 64bit architectures
On Sun, 28 Jun 2009, Guillem Jover wrote: Actually I had some discussion about exporting the wordsize and endianness few months ago on #debian-dpkg with Hector Oron. It looks mostly fine but: - you should add some comments explaining the new columns in cputable - the parsing in Dpkg::Arch should also support the 3 column format and not only the 5 columns one as the cputable is in dpkg and the parsing code in dpkg-dev and both need not be in sync... Bug#534887: live-initramfs: Loop mounting .iso for booting from multi-purpose USB stick?
* Philip Hands p...@hands.com [20090628 01:25]: I've been trying to build a versatile USB stick, with the imntent that it be able to choose between various images at a grub prompt. Some .iso images (i.e. http://partedmagic.com/) are happy with this setup, becasue once booted (via grub4dos's ability to map a .iso and boot it) they look around for the image they came from and loop mount it, in much the same way as debian-live looks for its .squashfs debian-live does not appear to have this ability at present, although given that it can find the .squashfs I'd guess it's not going to be too hard to add, but I'm afraid my cursory glance over the code did not reveal the place where it should be added. JFTR: http://git.grml.org/?p=live-initramfs-grml.git;a=blob;f=debian/patches/06_support_fromiso_isofrom.dpatch;hb=HEAD http://git.grml.org/?p=live-initramfs-grml.git;a=blob;f=debian/patches/07_support_findiso.dpatch;hb=HEAD should basically do what you want. Do I understand it right that the partedmagic live system doesn't require *any* additional bootoptions at all to boot the ISO directly from USB (running losetup CO on it's own)? [...] There is at least one gotcha though -- grub will often fail to map an image if it's fragmented, so you're liable to have to copy all the images off the stick, delete them and then write them back to make it happy. The --mem option to grub's map command is supposed to handle that case, by copying the image to ram, but I've not had a lot of luck with that. Note that when I say grub here I'm talking about grub4dos which is pretty much the same as grub2, but seems to deal with the vagaries of USB-ZIP rather better than grub2 at the moment. You mention it in your blog article http://wiki.hands.com//howto/ultimate-usb-stick/#gettingdebian-livetorun already, but JFTR: grub2 with loopback option doesn't have the fragmentation problem (though grub2 was/is kind of broken in current Debian/unstable). What systems do you have that support USB-ZIP only? regards, -mika- signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#531992: [Pkg-lyx-devel] Bug#531992: lyx: Does not wrap or format hyperlinks

In effect, in the pdf document the link will cross the boundary of the the text area. Ok at the core this is not a LyX problem. LyX uses the hyperref package to create the links in the output. According to the hyperref docs[1] you've to set breaklinks=true. In LyX you can achieve that by going to Document-Settings-PDF Properties- enable the Use Hyperref support check box - Tab Hyperlinks - checkbox Break links over lines. The result is that the exportet TeX file has the settings made but the link in the pdf is still not wraped here. Maybe you can comfirm that on your system aswell. This will require some more digging through documentation and bugtracker to find the root of the problem. Bug#534632: [Pkg-lyx-devel] Bug#534632: Feature: scale big graphics in the editor
On Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 12:24:56AM +0200, Alex Dănilă wrote: Hi Alex, When inserting big graphics into LyX the editor will show them at original size. The graphics may be set to show at some scaling down percent, but LyX will show them at the same size. The problem with this is that it it makes document editing harder by taking up a lot of screen space and having to scroll too much and loose overview. I would like LyX to scale the shown graphics in a smart way (I don't know which is that) or maybe show them at the scale chosen by the user in the graphics dialog. Any other method of easing work with these big graphics is welcome. This is a bit tricky. According to #3674 [1] in the LyX bugtracker you should see an instant preview so that you can adjust the scaling while having the insert dialog still open. Currently this doesn't work on Linux. After all this is still not exactly what you've asked for. A bit more in this direction is #2151 [2] which asks for an automatic scaling factor setting. One more in the same direction is #2200 [3]. Still not exactly what you asked for but I guess this is very close if you get some automatic scaling that adjusts to your current screen size. I'm unsure which one fits best here or if I should forward this in a new report. Any recommendations? Bug#531992: [Pkg-lyx-devel] Bug#531992: lyx: Does not wrap or format hyperlinks
Hi, thank you for the attention. I was actually curios why the Break links option does not give the effect. I confirm, the Tex file contains breaklinks=true but the pdf does not wrap the link. Best wishes, :) Alex Sven Hoexter wrote: On Fri, Jun 05, 2009 at 05:31:56PM +0200, Alex Dănilă wrote: Hi, When inserting a web link, LyX will not take care to wrap it or format it some other way in the resulting document. Bug#534929: bash 4 outputs spurious ^C when sending SIGINT
Package: bash Version: 4.0-2 Severity: normal I often search through the history to find an old command to paste, followed by pressing ^C (causing SIGINT to be sent). This worked fine in bash versions up to 3, but in version four, this outputs a spurious ^C _directly into the readline text_. e.g. bash 3: cerebro ~# man bash cerebro ~# bash 4: cerebro ~# man b^Ch cerebro ~# This makes it rather hard to go back to look at old commands. I didn't find anything about this in the documentation, nor obviously a way to get sane behaviour (defined by me as like other shells). Can be used on a debian system in a productive way? Thank you for your reply. It's had quite a bit of testing on the Simply Mepis 8.0.6, which is essentially Lenny under the hood. It depends on Python = 2.5. Unless the kernel building tools in Debian are renamed upstream, it should work on all versions except oldstable. You didn't answer my question: can this package be useful to a Debian user? It's mainly a tool for anyone that wants to easily customize their own kernel; maybe optimize and strip out unwanted drivers. I realize Not from how you introduced it: it takes information from an ubuntu forum (that's not the most fortunate decision) so it doesn't seem so general purpose as you're asserting right above. Debian maintains an experimental kernel build repository that may duplicate much of this package's results. and so again: what's the point of this package in Debian? I don't care if Mepis is interested in it, it *must* be useful for Debian in the first place. Master Kernel didn't file an ITP, and I didn't until after I put it up in the mentors repository. and that's wrong, and already axplained Should I pull the sources off there and upload them elsewhere? I realize I'm going about this backwards, but we worked on the packaging first to get it into his PPA and the Lenny compatible Mepislovers community repo. Later came the idea to see if it was worth trying to get it into Debian. I think it's not that useful here, but I look forward for other comments. Bug#534632: [Pkg-lyx-devel] Bug#534632: Feature: scale big graphics in the editor
Hi, [2] is in the line with what I imagined first. What I didn't notice when reporting this is Scale on screen % setting in the image dialog. I will use this for now. Thinking more about this, maybe the best would be something like an option to limit image depending on the LyX window. I guess the problem has no chance to being solve in general way. If you believe it makes sense to report a bug about preview size dependent on the LyX window, you or I could do the report. Otherwise, I'm fine enough with Scale on screen properties per image. Thank you for your work. :) Alex Sven Hoexter wrote: On Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 12:24:56AM +0200, Alex Dănilă wrote: Hi Alex, When inserting big graphics into LyX the editor will show them at original size. Bug#484277: Possible fix
Autotools and dpkg-cross could provide a simple fix: lt_cv_sys_lib_dlsearch_path_spec=/usr/$(DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE)/lib /lib /usr/lib /usr/local/lib The default path (on amd64) is: libtool:sys_lib_dlsearch_path_spec=/lib /usr/lib /usr/local/lib /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu So it looks like libtool is reading BUILD when it should be reading HOST. Now we can either fix this in dpkg-cross by setting lt_cv_sys_lib_dlsearch_path_spec in the /etc/dpkg-cross/config* files and hopefully we can fix this in libtool too. dpkg-cross gives us a direct fix for current builds (i.e. without regenerating the autotools data of a particular package) and a fix in libtool gives us a long term fix. It looks like the libtool macros are listening to the wrong environment variables - BUILD (which doesn't change when cross-compiling) compared to HOST (which does change and this change should affect libtool generation from ./configure). This change to a CDBS package removes the RPATH from the cross-built binary packages: DEB_CONFIGURE_EXTRA_FLAGS=lt_cv_sys_lib_dlsearch_path_spec=/usr/$(DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE)/lib /lib /usr/lib /usr/local/lib By using HOST, it does not change the value from what would be automatically generated in a native build. Whether the *order* of the variables matters, I don't know. More testing required but I'm thinking of putting this into dpkg-cross to support such tests. -- Neil Williams = http://www.data-freedom.org/ http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/ http://e-mail.is-not-s.ms/ pgpr9t44wKOzx.pgp Description: PGP signature
Bug#534868: [Build-common-hackers] Bug#534868: use Makefile as stamp rather than config.status

In that case, I think the best solution would be to generate a stamp in CDBS. Then no matter what configure does, it will always work. Bug#534940: lintian: inconsistent reporting of affected files
Package: lintian Version: 2.2.12 Severity: normal Hi, the way affected files are reported by linitian is inconsistent, some tags report them with a leading './', others don't. E.g. shared-lib-without-dependency-information ./usr/lib/libfoo.so.1.2.3 shlib-with-non-pic-code usr/lib/libfoo.so.1.2.3 Probably only one form should be used and the ./ prefix is not needed IMO. Bug#523504: Bug #523504 is probably a duplicate of #447084
On Sun, 28 Jun 2009 16:15:49 +0400 Dmitry E. Oboukhov wrote: [...] FP However, I don't think the bug is in xterm: as explained in the long FP bug log of #447084, FP I managed to reproduce the problem in the window FP title of xterm, in the window title of galeon, and also in the drawn FP output of root-tail. FP I seem to remember reproducing the problem even with conky. FP It would look like an awkward coincidence if all those applications FP shared the same exact bug... FP It seems more plausible that they all use the same feature in a common FP buggy library (libx11-6). I can reproduce this bug only with a few programs (like as xterm). I use conky, galeon and they work fine on my system. I think that #447084 binds with non-utf fonts which were in .deb long ago. Now all (my opinion) themes are fixed. As explained in the bug log of #447084, I checked that the fonts I use are able to correctly display cyrillic letters. See especially http://bugs.debian.org/447084#15 Moreover, I reproduced the bug with root-tail, which has nothing to do with fluxbox themes, as far as I know. See http://bugs.debian.org/447084#50 FP In summary, I still think that the bug is in libx11-6 and that FP bug #523504 should probably be reassigned to libx11-6 version FP 6.9.0.dfsg.1-6 and merged with #447084.
