Bug#534430: linux-image-2.6.26: CBQ broken
Bounded classes are allowed to borrow at least under some circumstances. In my config there is a bounded class parented to root on my DSL uplink and a hierarchy sitting under it where most classes are allowed to borrow. If the root class is bounded it all works like a breeze. I have used to use a replica of this setup under BSD for nearly 10 years and recently moved it to Linux. Because the root class was borrowing the underlying hierarchy was exceeding their allocated bandwidths on casual basis. As a result - no QoS. I have worked around it by bringing down the bandwidth of the parent root CBQ qdisc at the moment. It is now still borrowing: class cbq 2:16 parent 2: rate 38bit (bounded) prio 2 Sent 1041746585 bytes 7852722 pkt (dropped 0, overlimits 0 requeues 0) rate 0bit 0pps backlog 0b 0p requeues 0 borrowed 7984534 overactions 0 avgidle 78 undertime 0 However, it just gets dropped by the qdisc. Bounded classes in lower levels in the hierarchy actually work. Putting a few more classes between the root and the first class that is bounded does not. Overall, it is broken and broken pretty badly. I have not had the time to sit down and read the actual code yet to see exactly where it is broken. Bug#538656: ftp.debian.org: squeeze-p-u/main/bin/Packages.diff/ files missing
Package: ftp.debian.org Severity: normal On ftp.debian.org (or at least all the mirrors I checked and in /ls-lR.gz), some of the latest patch files are missing from /dists/squeeze-proposed-updates/main/binary-xxx/Packages.diff/ This has been seen for both xxx=i386 and xxx=amd64 and may also affect other architectures. Symptoms: In said directories, the file Index lists patch files dated 2009-06-27 and 2009-06-28, but those patch files are not there and are not listed in /ls-lR.gz at the top of the archive. I have checked the actual directory contents of 3 mirrors, none of which contained those files. Also note that my observations were made 4 weeks after those dates, giving the mirror network plenty of time to resynch that directory. Please upload the missing files or find another way to make the archive consistent again. You may also want to check if the same issue affects other *.diff/ directories or patch files in the archive. P.S. I am aware that some current versions of apt happen to skip the patch files as a workaround for a slow rred implementation in apt, but this is just transitional. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.2 APT prefers stable APT policy: (990, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.29jbj3.4-37 Locale: LANG=en_DK.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_DK.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#538637: defect in binary xserver-xorg-core package disables compositing with kwin in KDE 4.2
Matthias Liertzer wrote: Package: xserver-xorg-core Version: 2:1.6.2-1 Severity: important The xserver-xorg-core_1.6.2-1 as downloaded from official debian mirrors can not run the kwin 4.2 windows manager(latest version in unstable) with compositing enabled. After examining the xserver and compiling it various times myself, I noticed that that this has to be a bug in the binary package in debian. In order to obtain a bug free xserver-xorg-core package, all I had to do was building the debian package myself. i.e. apt-get source -b xserver-xorg-core dpkg -i xserver-xorg-core_1.5.1-1_amd64.deb Therefore something must have gone wrong during packaging of the system. Others experienced the same problem and misjudged it for a xserver/driver problem: http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22907 Could you send the list of version of packages that you have installed for each build-depends of the server? Bug#538669: base: Cannot compose accents with GTK applications since upgrade to squeeze
Package: base Severity: important Hi, Since I've upgraded I can't create anymore accents by using a compose key (right windows key for me). This problem seems to only appear in all GTK application (Iceweasel, icedove, dia,...). Otherwise it works in a xterm, OOo and konqueror. If I want to create a é normally I do : right-windows-key then ' then e but I get nothing with icedove for instance. Or if I do right-windows-key then ' then e AND then e again. I get a reverse e like : ə :-) I'm don't where this bug come from. It worked correctly before the upgrade to squeeze. Before I was in testing as well but everything should have been close from a lenny actually. I didn't upgrade for a while. Bug#538674: resolvconf: Please honour recursion no; in /etc/bind/named.conf/options
Package: resolvconf Version: 1.42 Severity: normal Hi, The current /etc/resolvconf/update.d/bind script does not honour the recursion no; option. This leads to resolvconf setting 127.0.0.1 as DNS server, without the local machine being able to resolve DNS names. The following line simply tests whether recursion no; is in named.conf.options: sed 's/^\s*//' /etc/bind/named.conf.options | grep '^recursion\s*no\;' I do not know what do do with it! Why doesn't resolvconf simply use the nameservers specified in /e/n/i and put them in resolv.conf when bind is installed? I have a bind setup running to serve my domains, but I don't want to use it as a local nameserver. Using resolvconf, I have to do it. I'm actually inclined to turn off using apt_pkg by default. It's definitely faster, typically by a factor between 2 and 2.5, but we keep running into weird corner cases with the way apt_pkg parses things. for me anyway, speed is not a huge concern as the code path occurs during a behind-the-scenes cronjob. i guess in an ideal world apt_pkg would correctly parse the file and it'd be a non-issue, but barring that i'd throw my vote in for the slower but correct implementation as well... if only because i don't want to have to support two different versions of deb822.Sources in my code (production is running on lenny, development on squeeze/sid). sean -- signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#511181: found the problem
btmakemetafile.bittorrent test http://www.example.com:8000 It turns out that my mistake was to use the above command instead of the below command to create the metafile. btmakemetafile.bittorrent test http://www.example.com:8000/announce I suggest that the btmakemetafile program give a warning when /announce is not at the end of the URL. This won't be adequate to solve the problem but will be a good step towards alleviating it. What we really need is to have the tracker logs indicate the URL that was used for accessing itself. If something obviously wrong like missing /announce is done then it would be good to have that logged directly. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#535425: ia32-libs-tools [...] dependency on the amd64/ia64 package and binary NMUs
Andreas Beckmann andr...@abeckmann.de writes: Andreas Beckmann wrote: Another question: to all generated ia32-libf00 (1.2.3-4~23) packages a dependency on libf00 (= 1.2.3-4) is added. This should only be neccessary is some files/scripts (e.g. manpages, config files, translations) have been removed during creation of the ia32- package to prevent file conflicts when both ia32-libf00 and libf00 are installed. If no such conflict exists, it should be possible to have ia32-libf00 installed and working without having libf00 installed, too. Or a Conflicts: libfoo ( 1.2.3-4), libfoo ( 1.2.3-4) would work to forbid mismatching versions to be installed. That one is really getting nasty if binary NMUs are involved: i386: libpcre3: Candidate: 7.8-2+b1 amd64: libpcre3: Candidate: 7.8-2 ia32-libpcre3 gets a dependency on libpcre3 (= 7.8-2+b1) which is unsatisfyable on amd64. Andreas Yeah. That is one reason why I droped it already in the ia32-apt-get branch. Policy 8.2 already forbids libraries to have conffiles, shared data, binaries and so on. So anything that breaks by dropping the i386-amd64 dependency will near certainly violate Policy 8.2. So if things break a bugreport is in order instead of the ugly dependency workaround. However the config script of console-setup is limited and does not support every possible option. This is the reason of the warning. If you answered you wanted to continue to use the unsupported option - it will be supported both in X and on the console. Only dpkg-reconfigure will be unable to reconfigure the options in /etc/default/console-setup so if you want to make changes you will have to edit this file manualy. Due to a bug console-setup this warning was displayed on every upgrade. I suppose you are seeing it for first time only because 1.36 is the first version of console-setup you have used. Since 1.44 this is no longer the case - you see the warning only once. If you see this warning the next time console-setup is upgraded, please submit a bug report. Bug#538434: [Pkg-kbd-devel] Bug#538434: kbd: add X-Interactive keyword to initscript LSB info
On Sun, Jul 26, 2009 at 06:00:48AM +1000, Kel Modderman wrote: Please apply the attached patch which adds `X-Interactive' keyword to the LSB information of initscript(s) in your package. I asked Kel why these scripts have to be considered interactive and he answered that this is due to #534711. When the scripts are executed in parallel mode, then /proc/self/fd/0 (and /proc/self/fd/2 which is used by console-setup) are redirected to /dev/pts/?. Because of this the scripts think they are not executed on the console and refuse to configure the console. I wonder if there is some other method to check whether we are on the console or not... But this is aready not the default, since it has the confusing side-effect of making the object returned by each iteration (each of which has a different id) actually share the same data. Is anybody strongly opposed to making iter_paragraphs not use apt_pkg by default? I'm still trying to figure out a way to salvage the output from apt_pkg in this case, but I'm not having much luck. I'm not against changing the default. However, I'm against making it difficult / undocumented how to use apt_pkg + shared storage. I do care about runtimes but I want to retain the nice data structures of deb822 nevertheless (i.e. please not make me use python-apt all alone). What it might make sense then is to have different top level functions, with one maybe marked fast and well documenting that it has potential drawback. The other can safely be our, slower, default. I notice you removed the static library in version 0.141-1; would it be possible to bring it back? Note that libdw1 contains a whole bunch of shared libraries which can be dynamicly loaded, and you probably need atleast one of them. Upstream does not provide them staticly. I suggest you look at doing this with the shared version instead, I don't see an advantage of doing it staticly. makedumpfile's purpose is to dump the memory of a crashed kernel (from a newly kexec'd crash kernel), ignoring user memory and pages of zeros. It's possible to do this after booting the crash kernel through a normal init process, but to avoid needing to pre-allocate a lot of memory for the crash kernel, it's better if makedumpfile can run in the initramfs. For that, we want a statically linked binary (or else we have to copy the libz, libelf, and libdw shared libraries also into the initramfs). It works just fine linked against libdw.a. -- John Wright j...@debian.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble?
