Bug#552469: (Little) progress
Hi! I just wanted to note that a request has been sent to debian-volatile [1] for some clarifications, but thus far there hasn't been any response. Best, Michael [1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-volatile/2009/11/msg0.html pgphm4ARhP2TV.pgp Description: PGP signature
Bug#555462: [Pkg-samba-maint] Bug#555462: libsmbclient: cannot list servers in workgroup with 3.4.3
tags 555462 fixed-upstream thanks Quoting Alban Browaeys (pra...@yahoo.com): There is a patch for this issue in upstream bugzilla. I tested it on debian sources , rebuilding the package (thus the .1 in my version of the package): https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6880 With the patch I can indeed list the workgroup servers. Well, upstream bug clearly mentions this will be fixed in 3.4.4. I'm not sure that I see the point in duplicating each upstream bug in our BTS (unless you want us to fix this ASAP in unstable but I don't think the issue warrants this), but anyway marking this as fixed upstream. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#555536: [nautilus] no svgz thumbnail preview
Package: nautilus Version: 2.28.1-1 Severity: normal Tags: patch --- Please enter the report below this line. --- I don't think this has ever worked though similar bug reports claim the problem is fixed. The bug is best described there: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/librsvg/+bug/257713 As the user states opening the svgz in eog successfully generates the thumbnail, to that I would add that browsing the directory using KDE's konqueror/dolphin also generates proper thumbs for nautilus. librsvg2-2 can't be the problem as the above bug resolution claims, b/c it's built properly in Debian: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=450209 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=536414 I can work around this bug by specifying my own thumbnailer ala: http://library.gnome.org/devel/integration-guide/stable/thumbnailer.html.en gconftool --install-schema-file=svgz-thumbnailer.schemas rm -r .thumbnails/fail/gnome-thumbnail-factory/* pkill nautilus # this may not be necessary Note: the schema (attached) depends on rsvg-convert found in librsvg2-bin This does the trick, but if it's supposedly working in other distros then why can't we have svgz thumbs working by default in Debian? I'd rather not have to install this schema and librsvg2-bin on all my machines. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Bug#555541: glusterfs-client: Support for proper client mounting via fstab at startup
Package: glusterfs-client Version: 2.0.7-0.0.1 Severity: wishlist When starting up, Debian fails to mount the glusterfs partitions present on fstab. In fact, glusterfs does not find fuse because the mountall and other init script related to mounting partitions are ran before fuse starts up. After investigation, it appears that the information set within the comment header of fuse, and the lack of init script for glusterfs-client, causes insserv to attempt mounting the glusterfs volumes set in /etc/fstab before FUSE is operational. On servers without insserv, fuse seems to start up before the mount* init scripts ; which is correct. The problem is that no init scripts are included in the glusterfs-client package to prevent insserv from starting fuse after the mount* init scripts. Furthermore, when the machine runs as a glusterfs client, FUSE's init comment header should be overridden, as now FUSE should not depend on $remote_fs, but provide it (through Glusterfs). -- Jan -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (800, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-1-xen-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages glusterfs-client depends on: ii fuse-utils 2.7.4-2 Filesystem in USErspace (utilities ii glusterfs-server 2.0.7-0.0.1 clustered file-system glusterfs-client recommends no packages. It is written that you added a symbles file to change log for a lintian error, but does not become the error without this file in latest lintian. Would you delete it? Or would you teach revision method of this problem? I found malfunction in configure. This package became the compile error by check of magling of gfortran on sh. Old autoconf adds -little option to compile option. sh4 architecture can't interpret this option. Therefore, this has build error. http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-autoconf/2008-10/msg00039.html We need patch revising this. I added patch to revising these. Package building was fine. Bug#555549: libdw1: should not require .debug extension for kernel modules debug info
Package: libdw1 Version: 0.143-1 Severity: normal Currently libdw1 tries to append .debug to module name to find debug information. This fails with make-kpkg because debug info for kernel modules is installed under /usr/lib/debug/lib/modules/VER/... without appending .debug extension. It would be good if libdw1 could check for files without .debug extension. Alternatively make-kpkg can be changed to append the extension, but it will be against Best practices for debug packages from Developers References (6.7.9), and other debug packages in Debian do not append this extension (it looks like it is Fedora's policy to add .debug). According to strace, systemtap now looks for debug information for module snd.ko in the following locations: /lib/modules/2.6.32-rc6/kernel/sound/core/snd.ko /usr/lib/debug/.build-id/8d/19f404d7db2242e69c87419b8fd32f67fca584.debug /lib/modules/2.6.32-rc6/kernel/sound/core/snd.ko.debug /lib/modules/2.6.32-rc6/kernel/sound/core/.debug/snd.ko.debug /usr/lib/debug/lib/modules/2.6.32-rc6/kernel/sound/core/snd.ko.debug /lib/modules/2.6.32-rc6/kernel/sound/core/build/snd.ko.debug but it can be found here: /lib/modules/2.6.32-rc6/kernel/sound/core/snd.ko -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-rc6 (SMP w/2 CPU cores; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=uk_UA.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=uk_UA.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages libdw1 depends on: ii libbz2-1.0 1.0.5-3 high-quality block-sorting file co ii libc6 2.10.1-6 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libelf10.143-1 library to read and write ELF file ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-15 compression library - runtime libdw1 recommends no packages. libdw1 suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#555551: swfdec0.8: utc-offset property's range is too limited
Package: libswfdec-0.8-0 Version: 0.8.4-1 I just noticed the following: (epiphany-browser:21566): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: value 780 of type `gint' is invalid or out of range for property `utc-offset' of type `gint' After some spelunking I discovered this in swfdec0.8: g_object_class_install_property (object_class, PROP_UTC_OFFSET, g_param_spec_int (utc-offset, utc offset, Difference between UTC and local timezone in minutes, -12 * 60, 12 * 60, 0, G_PARAM_READWRITE | G_PARAM_CONSTRUCT)); which limits the values of the property to plus or minus 12 hours. However, there are places on Earth whose offset from UTC can exceed 12 hours; here in New Zealand, which is in UTC+12, daylight saving time means that the current offset from UTC is 13 hours, which results in the above message. Per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_time_zones#UTC.2B12.2C_M the allowable range should probably be -12 to +14 hours. -- Paul Collins Wellington, New Zealand Dag vijandelijk luchtschip de huismeester is dood -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. When I let my system suspend by closing the lid and later on resume it by opening it again the system resumes and immediately goes to sleep again. I previously suspected it to be the fault of acpid, but I noticed that it isn't configured to handle the lid event this way by default. I can submit it upstream and see about getting it incorporated there afterwards (and we can carry it in the Debian package until the next release if upstream takes it). You can find the patches attached to this mail. Please have a look if they work for you. What is still missing is a way to specify the destination folder using autoconf (I’m not good at autoconf, so this would take me a long time). Currently, /var/run/krb5kdc.pid and /var/run/kadmind.pid are hard-coded (and don’t use ${prefix} either). Bug#553498: Bug#555129: Should not set document root to /var/www - violates the FHS
On Monday 09 November 2009, Manoj Srivastava wrote: Because it violates the FHS -- and it would be at odds with the forthcoming web applications policy. Are you sure access to the document root is unavoidable? Well, it has the document root compiled in, allows only one document root, and doesn't follow symlinks to outside of the document root. That makes it pretty hard. Maybe it is possible to find a solution, but it is not obvious. And it would have to be checked for security issues. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

I'm not sure every web server supports such feature, though. someone ought to file a wishlist bug against php5. at the very least there could be a debconf prompt controlling the global status of php, and i think there's a strong case for arguing that apps shouldn't assume that it's on by default. I would really like to see php being disabled for userdirs by default. Bug#555607: acpi-support: should support default actions for lid close/open via config options
Package: acpi-support Version: 0.123-1 Severity: wishlist Hi, today I wanted to configure my laptop to suspend to RAM when closing the lid. This is possible with the current way how configuration is managed, but not very beauty. I'd suggest one of the following changes: 1. Make /etc/acpi/lid.sh call /etc/acpi/lid_close.sh when closing the lid and lid_open.sh on opening. Make these scripts call /etc/acpi/local/lid_{open,close}.sh.{pre,post} accordingly. The obvious advantage of this approach is, that the lid logic (close/open?) doesn't need to be duplicated in the scripts. Eventually lid.sh could also be replaced by two more specific scripts, but I don't know if that would work. 2. Add configuration options to make it possible to configure common actions via /etc/default/acpi-support. For example it would make sense to have an option, lets say ACTION_ON_LID_CLOSE, which could be set to either sleep (pm-suspend), or hibernate (pm-hibernate) or none (default: as it is now). Maybe it would make sense to call it somehow different, because with that name none is not really correct as screen locking would still happen (unless configured otherwise). 3. My favorite choice: Combine 1 and 2, so that its possible to configure common actions (sleep, suspend, maybe poweroff, too) and additionaly defining specific scripts that are only handled on open/close of the lid. BTW. I'd be willing to realize either of these options, depending on what the Debian ACPI Team and upstrem think is the best choices. Bug#555609: procps: Strange behavior toggling Single/Seperate CPU States
Package: procps Version: 1:3.2.7-11 Severity: normal Tags: patch When I press 1 to toggle Single/Seperate Cpu States, top lets me switch to the latter mode, even if the terminal is too small to display NUM_CPUS+7 lines. Trying to switch back yields a Sorry, terminal is not big enough message. So i get trapped in Seperate CPU display mode. Example: 32 Core-machine, xterm with 38 lines. When I press 1 Cpu1 -32 are displayed, when 1 press 1 again it gives me the terminal not big enough message. I attached a patch to avoid this condition by disabling the switch to Seperate CPU Stae view if the display is too small ( NUM_CPUS+7, as defined somewhere in the code). Now if one tries to toggle views, top displays Sorry, terminal is not big enough if the terminal is too small, but still allows toggling back to normal even if the terminal is minimized even more. Bug#550009: patch for double-free Signal 6 (ABRT)
Hi, I am able to reproduce the double-free Signal 6 (ABRT) bug in ps by running the following perl/shell command, and repeatedly running ps. Maybe the 20 in the for loop needs to be adjusted according to the machine speed. for i in {1..20}; do perl -e 'while (1) { if (!fork()) { exit(0); } wait(); }' done The bug is triggered in function simple_spew(), at line 345 of ps/display.c 338 while(readproc(ptp, buf)){ ... 345if(buf.nsupgid 0 buf.supgid) free(buf.supgid); ... 347 } If I understand correctly, it is a race condition that happens when the function simple_readproc() (called by readproc()) is reading the information for a process, and the process disappears before /proc/#/status was read. Then, the supgid and nsupgid fields of the proc_t struct are never initialized, and buf.supgid may be free'd a second time, if it was already at the preceding iteration. A similar bug is also present with the functions readtask() and simple_readtask(). It can be triggered by running 'ps H' and the following perl/shell command. for i in {1..20}; do perl -e 'use threads; while (1) { my $thr = threads-create(sub { return 0; }); $thr-detach(); }' done As a solution, I suggest that the proc_t buffer is zero'ed at the beginning of readproc() and readtask(). This is implemented by the attached patch. diff -aurp procps-3.2.8.old/proc/readproc.c procps-3.2.8/proc/readproc.c --- procps-3.2.8.old/proc/readproc.c 2009-11-10 11:59:17.0 +0100 +++ procps-3.2.8/proc/readproc.c 2009-11-10 13:41:48.0 +0100 @@ -828,6 +828,7 @@ proc_t* readproc(PROCTAB *restrict const saved_p = p; if(!p) p = xcalloc(p, sizeof *p); /* passed buf or alloced mem */ + else memset(p, 0, sizeof *p); for(;;){ // fills in the path, plus p-tid and p-tgid @@ -856,6 +857,7 @@ proc_t* readtask(PROCTAB *restrict const saved_t = t; if(!t) t = xcalloc(t, sizeof *t); /* passed buf or alloced mem */ + else memset(t, 0, sizeof *t); // 1. got to fake a thread for old kernels // 2. for single-threaded processes, this is faster (but must patch up stuff that differs!) Bug#555538: snd - FTBFS: error: Seems like an unsupported hardware for jack.
On Tue, Nov 10, 2009 at 10:09:27AM +0100, Bastian Blank wrote: environs...: s390-ibm-linux-gnu gcc audio.c:7056:2: error: #error Seems like an unsupported hardware for jack. Please contact k.s.matheus...@notam02.no Oh no, they use inline-asm for atomic ops. With the current source, the package can only be built on x86, amd64 and powerpc(64). You'd end up with FTBFS on sparc, mipsel and all other CPUs. We had the same problem with FFADO, see e.g. http://subversion.ffado.org/ticket/197 The generic solution is the use gcc builtins. This requires gcc-4.1 or newer and at least some kind of underlying hardware atomic ops: http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc-4.1.2/gcc/Atomic-Builtins.html So you could replace (patch) the code in audio.c:7056 with static inline void __attribute__ ((__unused__)) atomic_add(volatile int* __mem, int __val) { __sync_add_and_fetch (__mem, __val); } or if the target doesn't support __sync_add_and_fetch, mimic it via compare-and-swap: static inline void __attribute__ ((__unused__)) atomic_add(volatile int* __mem, int __val) { int actual; do { actual = *__mem; } while (! __sync_bool_compare_and_swap (__mem, actual, actual + __val)); } However, I don't think somebody would ever use snd, jack and the lot on s390, so an easier approach would be to limit the libjack-dev dependency to amd64, i386 and powerpc. Probably the best approach would be to ignore jack here and simply use pulseaudio for all. If not talking about pro audio, pulseaudio seems to be the sensible default across distros (Ubuntu, Fedora, opensuse following right now) HTH -- mail: a...@thur.de http://adi.thur.de PGP/GPG: key via keyserver -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#555615: xserver-xorg-video-mach64: Monitor always enters powersave mode when X starts on 233Mhz iMac
Package: xserver-xorg-video-mach64 Version: 6.8.2-1 Severity: important When ever I start the xserver, the power button on the iMac changes from Green to Orange, indicating that the monitor has entered powersave mode. If I change to a linuxterm the monitor turns on. If I switch back from the linux term to the X session the monitor turns off again. This does not seem to be caused by excessive screen resolution. As shown below, this occurs even if I limit the res to 640x480. This bug occurs in (a prerelease of the) Xubuntu Karmic Koala livecd *. However it does not appear to occur on the Dapper Drake. * I mentioned this in launchpad bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xubuntu-meta/+bug/447735 However, since xubuntu wouldn't even give me a terminal I could not diagnose this further on Xubuntu. I also get the following error FATAL: Module mach64 not found. However installing mach64.ko and drm.ko as described here http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mach64 does not help. To ensure compatibility with mach64.ko I also tried switching back to the Lenny kernel (The above link describes an incompatibility between mach64 and some 2.6.27 and later kernels), but I got the same problem. Bug#552528: Caused by character set mismatch

While it's parsing the UI definition, it translates Restore the default menu layout to Ripristina la struttura predefinita del men, which uses the ISO/IEC 8859-15 character set. It subsequently calls g_markup_escape_text on this string, which expects it to use UTF-8. This causes it to miss the end of the string and, eventually, to try to access an inaccessible page, causing the segmentation fault. I don't know where or how this should be fixed. There is probably a missing bind_textdomain_codeset call, or whatever the equivalent is in Python. Python's gettext module provides a bind_textdomain_codeset call, but adding gettext.bind_textdomain_codeset(config.GETTEXT_PACKAGE,'UTF-8') and prefixing GETTEXT_PACKAGE on the previous two lines with config. doesn't eliminate the segmentation fault. bind_textdomain_codeset is also provided by the locale module. When that version is used, the application does not have a segmentation fault. I've attached the patch. Bug#555620: install-info: ginstall-info produces somehow broken utf-8 output
Package: install-info Version: 4.13a.dfsg.1-5 Severity: normal Using system locale de_DE.UTF-8 update-info-dir creates a somehow broken dir file. Where Men\303\274 should be Menü. For me it seems dir should be encoded in utf-8 and for the most parts it looks alright. But some entries are intermixed with bogus entries (see Gzip / Ada mode above). This requires gcc-4.1 or newer and at least some kind of underlying hardware atomic ops: http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc-4.1.2/gcc/Atomic-Builtins.html So you could replace (patch) the code in audio.c:7056 with static inline void __attribute__ ((__unused__)) atomic_add(volatile int* __mem, int __val) { __sync_add_and_fetch (__mem, __val); } Note that this isn't reliable in all arches. Csound failed to build in SPARC because __sync_add_and_fetch existed (so we used it), but there was some other __sync_* functions that were not referenced in csound causing problems (gcc complained because they were undefined). -- Saludos, Felipe Sateler signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part
Bug#521746: eagle: FTBFS bug not fixed yet re: libxrender.so.1 and amd64 [fix attached]
As the package currently is made, the warning is the same as the original reporter's comment: dh_shlibdeps -a dpkg-shlibdeps: failure: couldn't find library libXrender.so.1 needed by debian/eagle/usr/lib/eagle/bin/eagle I tried putting ia32-libs-dev into the Build-Depends, and pbuilder throughs an error (since it is only available on ia64 like you said). When I move ia32-libs to Build-Depends (so it is also no longer in Depends), the package builds fine. However, you are right, I don't know where the header files are - usually you don't depend on the runtime library, but it seems that the headers are in the library package possibly. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
