It should be possible to fix this problem via algorithmic changes, yes.
Unfortunately I haven't had the {time, money} to make the necessary
adjustments.

Bug#558044:

2009-12-02 Thread Jason A. Spiro
On Thu, Nov 26, 2009 at 6:41 AM, Craig Small csm...@debian.org wrote:

I disagree. pgrep/pkill (they're the same binary) are like grep and use
the same flags. I think that is important.

I think it is more important to protect users. But you are the
maintainer and so the decision is up to you.

Now I will continue to respond to the other arguments that you said in
your last mail.

Changing the flags now will cause more problems than it will solve
because now you will have different flags for new Debian servers, old
ones and the rest of the world.

Maybe you could gradually transition it in, by making both options
work for a year or two and printing a warning message, then disabling
-v.

If you are not careful you can do bad things easily. pkill -v is in the
same vein as fuser -km / or the old rm -rf / mydir/myfile.

Yes. But I think it would be good if you disable this particular bad
thing, just like GNU disabled the old rm -rf / mydir/myfile.

Principle of least astonishment is all good, but inconsistent flags
across different Linuxs is even worse.

Which Linux does not use Debian procps? For example, it looks like
Fedora uses Debian procps.[1]

While I do understand what you
are trying to do here I don't agree. Given that, I'm closing this
 bug.

What would you think if we posted on the debian-devel list and asked
for more advice on other possible options to prevent accidental
killing-all-processes with pkill -v?

Bug#477806: ITP: djbfft -- extremely fast library for floating-point convolution

2009-12-02 Thread Fabian Greffrath

Am 02.12.2009 03:53, schrieb Dmitrijs Ledkovs:

So are you going to upload gjbfft to debian?

No, not really. I have prepared packages in our SVN repo [1], but I
think it's unreasonable to upload just another library package to
Debian for the sole purpose of fixing a warning in another library.

[1] http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-multimedia/unstable/djbfft/

Because a52dec is out of sync in Ubuntu. We have applied a patch which
simply removes the silly warning No accelerated IMDCT transform
found #441693

So do you want help with gjbfft? Or is there really no point in having
it in the archive.
Or would you consider applying patch to a52dec to remove the warning?

I'd favour actually fixing it, though. Simply removing a warning is
not a method I would consider valid to get rid of it.

BTW do you want help with a52dec? Eg. fix lintian warnings, libtoolize
and convert to DEB5, DEB3, quilt, dh7 or CDBS etc

Well, at the moment I am the only (active) maintainer for a52dec in
Debian, but my interest in the package could be more vivid, I admit.
I'd highly appreciate if you could help out a bit and bring the
package to the newest packaging standards.

Cause I have a little bit of time to do this. (I'll send git format-patches)

That sounds perfect, because the packaging is actually tracked in our
GIT repository at [2] now. To work on the package I highly recommend
you to apply as a member of the pkg-multimedia team on Alioth.

Hello, Andreas Henriksson!

The bug report contains no information. The command you quote
in the subject is invalid syntax.

Please append a proper report including atleast:
 - A detailed description of what you did.
 - The result.
 - What you expected to happen.

OK, sorry. It seems I didn't fileld reportbug properly.

My actions:
tc filter add dev lo parent : protocol ip prio 10 u32 match u32 0 0
flowid 1:1 action ipt -j MARK --set-mark 1 action mirred egress
redirect eth2

Results:
/lib/iptables/libipt_mark.so: cannot open shared object file: No such
file or directory failed to find target MARK

bad action parsing
parse_action: bad value (10:ipt)!
Illegal action

The problem were reported early. The solution proposed was to update
iproute up to 20090324. It won't work for me.

Thanks for reporting this! Please note, that this had already been
reported as #558488 (on ia64), which was then reassigned to net-snmp.
Since other architectures are affected as well, I'm keeping this bug
open in collectd for future reference.

I'm thinking about letting the collectd configure script filter out that
option, but that'd be a rather bad hack imho, so a fixed net-snmp would
be preferred.

What would we loose?

IMHO having 2 virtual host definitions in your net using the

There is a high risk to start both guests in parallel by accident

Would you please try again with the packages from Debian?

From my recent observations the following steps should be sufficient to
unbreak a debian system:

 - remove all references to debian-multimedia.org from
   /etc/apt/sources.list and /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*.list

 - apt-get install libavutil49 libavutil50-

This will of course remove all marillat packages built against 'his'
ffmpeg.

Ben, could you try these instructions out? If they work out, I'll note
them in our Team FAQ.

   Hi,

During a rebuild of all packages in sid, your package failed to build on
   amd64.

I haven't been able to reproduce this on my system (also an amd64), and
I haven't seen it happen on any of the buildd hosts that built
  1:2.9.14-2.

Since the particular test that fails has a test client connect to the
server on localhost, network-specific strangeness might be the reason
why it failed. Therefore, could you explain the details of how stuff is
  supposed to be functioning?

Well, I use netfilter to reject most accesses to the outside world. This
 does not affect local communications.

Does it connect to localhost or 127.0.0.1? DNS resolution might not
 work completely.

localhost.

However, in the mean time, the alpha buildd has failed the build with
the same problem.

I think I'm beginning to understand what's going wrong, and that would
mean that this is a false negative for the test. Since false negatives
are rarely useful, I'm going to make failing the test not a fatal error,
until I've come up with a proper fix (which is going to be somewhat less
trivial)

Thanks,

Ah! Here's a bit more concise test case, which write only 1 integer:
[snip]
Attached are the output file from this program (foo.mat) and the fiel as
matlab itself saves it, generated by:
load('foo.mat');
save('foo_matlab.mat','test')
 in Matlab 2009b.
Note that the file are 1 byte different in length.

I've analysed these files bij hand (well, using a bit of perl), and as
far as I can determine, both of them comply the the file structure as
described in [1].

I'll proceed to check why libmathio and octave can't read it.

Greetings,

Good idea. I have researched your idea. From the first forty or so
Google search results for [ pkill -v ], it looks like nobody in
those search results uses pkill -v some_process_name except by
accident. They only use -v purposefully when they use it with -u, as
in pkill -v -u root or pkill -v -u 0,1 or pkill -v -u
root, daemon, nobody, gdm. Maybe if you want to use -v without -u, you
should need to pass the long option --invert-match instead of the
short option -v. What do you think?

Bug#558691: lshal and Xorg logs

2009-12-02 Thread Torsten Landschoff
Hi Julien,

I reproduced the lack of keyboard support today, please see attached logs.

I did another fresh installation for this but forgot to attach my USB
mouse and keyboard receiver (still using a PS/2 keyboard for the new
system) like I did in the previous attempt.

I did a fresh squeeze installation and ran installed x-window-system and xdm.
After installation, I noticed that I did not connect the USB mouse and
keyboard that I had last time (the PS/2 receiver was connected as well due
to d-i not working with USB kbd/mouse).

Interestingly, after starting xdm I had a core pointer working (the USB
mouse), but no keyboard. At least, the PS/2 connected keyboard is not
working, I did not test with the USB keyboard (sorry, gotta get going...).

I do not have much time currently, so I hope the attached logs are helpful.
I had to reboot using sys-rq this time (did not install ssh, ouch!). After
rebooting, Xorg has keyboard and mouse working fine.

So long, Torsten

No, it is actually a problem with the embedding interface of Gecko,

severity 553381 important
thanks

It seems that this API/ABI breakage doesn't render the whole system or moblin

unusable.
I'll lower the severity of this bug.

Bug#554793: linux-image-2.6.26-2-amd64: ipmi_watchdog module frequently returns errno=16 - Device or resource busy on Dell Poweredge 860s

Michael Meskes wrote:
You mean that it reboots although watchdog is up and running?

Ok, some more details. It reboots shortly after starting wd_keepalive,
early in the boot sequence. Maybe it is failing to keep up because of
all the disk activity during boot?

After booting single-user, I was able to both start and stop watchdog
without any issues.

Could you please try with verbose on and send me the log entries?

The -v option in /etc/default/watchdog did not produce any output.
Maybe it was too early in the boot sequence?

Cheers,

Marcus

Bug#559150: [choqok] Please support yammer

2009-12-02 Thread Resul Cetin
Package: choqok
Version: 0.9.4-1
Severity: wishlist

Please add support for the yammer api. It is described at
https://www.yammer.com/api_doc.html

Yammer is a micro blogging service with business background. So it is more a
twitter with a private space for companies. It is used in many firms even if
it maybe could be replaced by statusnet.

There is already a yammer client for linux called Yamr, but it has no real
integration into the KDE SC.

Yup. I think the upstream author might be MIA, last I heard
he was going to look at this in summer 2008.

I'm hoping to have a look at it sometime this year. I
suspect a proper fix will be a fairly invasive patch.

For the record, the patch itself is trivial and seems to be very simple
to backport.

https://issues.asterisk.org/view.php?id=16242
See links to specific commits from there.

The issue seems to affect both Etch, Lenny and Squeeze. For Sid/Squeeze,
upstream 1.6.0.2-rc7 should be released shortly (it has already been

Bug#559149: splashy does not work with parallel booting

2009-12-02 Thread Darren Hoo
Subject: splashy does not work with parallel booting
Package: splashy
Version: 0.3.13-5.1
Severity: normal

if I enable parallel booting with
  echo CONCURRENCY=makefile /etc/default/rcS
Splashy will cause the boot process to stop at the very
early stage of init scripts, but I do not know where exactly
it stops, because reset the computer is the only thing I can
do when it hangs.

it boots ok with splashy disabled or use CONCURRENCY=none

since sysv-rc began to depend on insserv and made parallel
booting the default, splashy stops working , So I switched to
usplash for a while, it works ok with parallel booting, but it
does not work well during halt or reboot,it always chvt to tty1
and prints out the verbose message.

So I switch back to splashy again only to find that it still
does not work with parallel booting.

I will try to figure out at which exact point the boot process
stops but I don't know how to do that for now.

I wonder if anyone can give me some advice.

BTW,I am using sysvinit instead of upstart, have not tried upstart
yet.

the real problem is the sorting doesn't work anymore. This is very
annoying when you have to browse hundreds of people and they are not

Bug#556652: octave can't load files created by libmatio

Ah! Here's a bit more concise test case, which write only 1 integer:

Attached are the output file from this program (foo.mat) and the fiel as
matlab itself saves it, generated by:
 load('foo.mat');
 save('foo_matlab.mat','test')

Note that the file are 1 byte different in length.

I've analysed these files bij hand (well, using a bit of perl), and as
far as I can determine, both of them comply the the file structure as
 described in [1].

I'll proceed to check why libmathio and octave can't read it.
Thanks for the feedback. Please let me know how it goes ;)

Bug#559152: RFP: python-execnet -- perform zero-install bootstrapping into other interpreters

2009-12-02 Thread Adam Schmalhofer
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: python-execnet
  Version : 1.0.0
Upstream Author : Holger Krekel hol...@merlinux.eu
* URL : http://codespeak.net/execnet/
* License : GPL/MIT
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : perform zero-install bootstrapping into other interpreters
 The execnet package allows to:
 * instantiate local/remote Python Interpreters
 * send code for execution to one or many Interpreters
 * send and receive data through channels
execnet performs zero-install bootstrapping into other interpreters; package
installation is only required at the initiating side. execnet enables
interoperation between CPython 2.4-3.1, Jython 2.5.1, PyPy 1.1 and IronPython
and works well on Windows, Linux and OSX systems.

python-execnet was part of python-codespeak-lib (and with it debian) before
1.1.0. Then it got split out into its own lib, so it could be used by others.
codespeak-lib (py.test) needs execnet for --looponfailing and distributed
testing. However Chris Lamb (DD of codespeak-lib) isn't interested in packaging
it himself, as he doesn't use execnet (see #559042).

If somebody sponsors me, I'll be willing to package it myself.

Bug#558132: systemsettings has gone

2009-12-02 Thread Juan Carlos Amengual Argudo
Mensaje citado por Xavier Vello xavier.ve...@gmail.com:

 Hello

So, please, please, could you tell me why I having these inconsistencies
(input/output) error (Error de entrada/salida in spanish)? Nothing
  [...]

This is either a disk error or a filesystem inconsistency (found a bug in
the kernel, yay ^^). You should monitor your harddisk with SMART just in
case it is a hardware failure.

Solved! :-) I rebooted the system, booting in recovery mode, started a root
shell, umounted /usr and ran fsck.ext3 -p -f -c /dev/hda2. Fsck fixed some
inconsistencies and errors in filesystem and everything is now fine (after
reinstalling some packages, being systemsettings one of them).

The only question being open is now: why in booting sequence, system says that
/dev/hda2 was clean? There were indeed errors in filesystem :-?

Bug report against what? fsck? :? I think this is a serious issue...

Thanks a lot!

To make it short: no.

More specifically, we actually don't have any sensible options to upload
ATM. 4.7.0-pre4 is very buggy and the 4.7.0 release was rescheduled to
25 December while the bugs are still being fixed. So until 4.7.0 it does
not make sense to upload -pre4 now to break even more stuff.

It is a really nasty problem and I'm considering a local fixed
package using your patch in case it might last some time until a new
 package appears.

Use latest master if you wish or just patch our package. I don't think
we can do anything else for you right now.

The home directories on this box are mounted over CIFS, so I'm using
pam-mount and the option is required.

Is there something that can be done so rabbitmq doesn't go through PAM
and doesn't get hung up on trying to mount some remote filesystems?

I don't think the rabbitmq packages are doing anything unusual, and I
wonder whether this affects any packages with init scripts that use
su, directly or indirectly, to start a daemon. So it might be a case
of well don't do that. I find it strange that pam_mount doesn't
exclude system accounts (the rabbitmq user is created as a system
account).

One possible fix might be to edit /etc/pam.d/su to remove the
pam_mount lines.

Bug#458826: jwm: [debian bugs] Multibytes characters title cannot be displayed

Hi Joe,

Could you take a look at these Debian bugs. Especially the 458826

release?

Thanks,
Jari

jwm: Multibytes characters title cannot be displayed
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=458826

Japanese characters cannot be displayed at title with some
application, e.g. openoffice.org. The problem is that COMPOUND_TEXT
handling is not good.

jwm: The mouse bindings are not configurable
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=497465

The mouse bindings are not configurable. If the click focus model is
being used, an operator may expect mouse input to go to the active
window. However, the mouse still exhibits sloppy focus behaviour. If
a long document is being viewed (in a browser for example), an operator
may
expect to roll the page up and down using the mouse wheel. However, if
the
mouse cursor has been moved to the bottom of the screen over the task
bar, rolling the wheel switch tasks or sometimes switching desktops,
rather than scrolling the page, even though the taskbar or desktop
switcher was never clicked.

Bug#559158: New upstream release 2.7.1 of libarchive available

2009-12-02 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Package: libarchive
Version: 2.6.2-1

Please upgrade to libarchive 2.7.1, it contains useful
features such as the ability to use the command-line tools
for uncompressing if libarchive is not linked against the
needed library, like it is the case for lzma.

The libopal-dev and libopenmpi-dev packages were marked as conflicting to
resolve bug #404003; the problem was file '/usr/lib/libopal.so' contained in
both packages.

Since at least lenny this library was renamed to '/usr/lib/libopen-pal.so' in
libopenmpi-dev package, so the confict does not exist any longer.

There are no other conflicting files in these packages, so the conflicts tag

Can you check if using ldap-method static instead of dynamic, the
problem persists?
As you know, I'm using this in many schools since last year and have
never had this problem. I'm using the same configuration debian edu has,
except that I use static to connect to ldap. On the other hand, I don't
know why dynamic is being used in Debian edu, as it creates much more
traffic with the ldap server, and adding new machines to ldap is not
something I do everyday to need a dynamic connection to the ldap
server

Bug#461125: ocaml-nox: linking into a shared library fails due to R_X86_64_32 relocations

2009-12-02 Thread Joost Yervante Damad

Hello,

I also ran into this issue and found the following workaround:

1) recompile libasmrun.a with -fPIC

2) link my library with -Wl,-Bsymbolic

Then I am able to run a C binary that calls ocaml where ocaml lives in the
created .so.

2) is not very nice. I tried solving it by sprinkling @PLT symbol tags in
asmrun/amd64.S instead. This makes everything compile and link without -
Bsymbolic but segfaults with an uncomprehensive error.

It would be very nice if you could adapt the ocaml build to build libasmrun.a
with -fPIC on the x86_64(amd64) architecture by default.

Greetings, Joost Damad

Bug#557998: gvfs: mounting LUKS-encrypted usb-stick ignores label

2009-12-02 Thread Leo 'costela' Antunes
Sorry for the delayed answer.

Michael Biebl wrote:
That is the underlying problem then. gvfs resp. devicekit-disks simply
uses the label that is set by udev. udev in turn should run the blkid
prober from util-linux to get the label.
What does blkid -o udev -p /dev/mapper/device say, is
 ID_FS_LABEL(_ENC) set?

Actually, both are correctly set:

# blkid -o udev -p /dev/mapper/devkit-disks-luks-uuid-(...)-uid1000
ID_FS_LABEL=personal
ID_FS_LABEL_ENC=personal
ID_FS_UUID=(...)
ID_FS_UUID_ENC=(...)
ID_FS_VERSION=1.0
ID_FS_TYPE=ext4
ID_FS_USAGE=filesystem

Any other ideas?
On my laptop, also running sid, this works flawlessly, so I figure it
must be somethig wrongly configured somewhere, but I don't recall
changing anything that might affect this (it's a pretty standard sid
installation with only minor system-wide changes).

Cheers

Bug#559022: Fw: Bug#559022: iproute: tc filter action ipt -j MARK still causes an error about libipt_mark.so

2009-12-02 Thread Andreas Henriksson
tags 559022 - moreinfo
thanks

Hello Igor!

Thanks for the additional information. Yes, it seems the xtables extension
(the new iptables api) is still broken. Because the configuration tests
for xtables are also broken, iproute falls back on building the
old non-working iptables module for tc instead of the xtables module.

Could you please test the attached patch?

cd /tmp
git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/shemminger/iproute2.git
wget http://fatal.se/tmp/iproute-xtables-1.4.5-rev2.diff
cd iproute2
patch -p1 ../iproute-xtables-1.4.5-rev2.diff
make

./tc/tc

I'm not using this myself and don't have detailed knowledge in this area.
I couldn't get the above command to work, instead I tested with this:

sudo iptables -N mark
sudo ./tc/tc qdisc add dev lo ingress
sudo ./tc/tc filter add dev lo parent : protocol ip prio 10 u32 \
match ip src 127.1.1.1/32 \
action ipt -j MARK --set-mark 1

sudo ./tc/tc filter show parent : dev lo

sudo ./tc/tc qdisc del dev lo ingress

Your feedback would be appreciated!

PS. I've notified Jamal (of net...@vger.kernel.org fame)
who has been working on this before about the issue.
Hopefully we'll be able to get it solved soon. Sooner if you help. ;)

Yup, thats the way to go. After some time it's also reasonable to close such
bug reports. In this specific case it would help too if Rémy could confirm
it's indeed a hardware issue.

Bug#559168: dpatch: errors are not send to stderr

2009-12-02 Thread Jari Aalto
Package: dpatch
Version: 2.0.31
Severity: normal

An exaple:

   $ dpatch  cat-all   /dev/null
   $ echo $?

But there is an error:

   $  dpatch  cat-all | grep 'does.*not'

USE CASE

When running debian/rules that call dpatch via
/usr/share/dpatch/dpatch.make rule, it's diffifult to tell where the
problem is because the error messages are sent to stdout (thus to file
patch-stampT) and not stderr:

$ make  -f /usr/share/dpatch/dpatch.make patch
test -d debian/patched || install -d debian/patched
dpatch apply-all

SUGGESTION

Please send all error messages to stderr.

Bug#558993: Subject: FTBFS: NSWindow.m:198: fatal error: method definition not in @implementation context

2009-12-02 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Yavor

I'm sorry about this, but please go blame the gnustep developers for this.
Besides, we have more bugs/problems if we don't upgrade. Not able to develop stuff
with the latest Gorm etc.

I never claimed there won't be any break, but I have tested most gnustep
software
with the latest gnustep tarball release and that works. I guess we're best to
upgrade to the latest versions of everything for squeeze.

Nobody want's stoneage gnustep libs. People install GNUstep from source, is that
what Debian meant to be? Make users and developers suffer by having to install
everything by them selves? I doubt.

Guerkan
