On Thu, Nov 26, 2009 at 6:41 AM, Craig Small csm...@debian.org wrote: I disagree. pgrep/pkill (they're the same binary) are like grep and use the same flags. I think that is important. I think it is more important to protect users. But you are the maintainer and so the decision is up to you. Now I will continue to respond to the other arguments that you said in your last mail. Changing the flags now will cause more problems than it will solve because now you will have different flags for new Debian servers, old ones and the rest of the world. Maybe you could gradually transition it in, by making both options work for a year or two and printing a warning message, then disabling -v. If you are not careful you can do bad things easily. pkill -v is in the same vein as fuser -km / or the old rm -rf / mydir/myfile. Yes. But I think it would be good if you disable this particular bad thing, just like GNU disabled the old rm -rf / mydir/myfile. Principle of least astonishment is all good, but inconsistent flags across different Linuxs is even worse. Which Linux does not use Debian procps? For example, it looks like Fedora uses Debian procps.[1] While I do understand what you are trying to do here I don't agree. Given that, I'm closing this bug. What would you think if we posted on the debian-devel list and asked for more advice on other possible options to prevent accidental killing-all-processes with pkill -v? ^ [1]. http://cvs.fedoraproject.org/viewvc/rpms/procps/devel/FAQ?view=markup -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#477806: ITP: djbfft -- extremely fast library for floating-point convolution
Am 02.12.2009 03:53, schrieb Dmitrijs Ledkovs: So are you going to upload gjbfft to debian? No, not really. I have prepared packages in our SVN repo [1], but I think it's unreasonable to upload just another library package to Debian for the sole purpose of fixing a warning in another library. [1] http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-multimedia/unstable/djbfft/ Because a52dec is out of sync in Ubuntu. We have applied a patch which simply removes the silly warning No accelerated IMDCT transform found #441693 So do you want help with gjbfft? Or is there really no point in having it in the archive. Or would you consider applying patch to a52dec to remove the warning? I'd favour actually fixing it, though. Simply removing a warning is not a method I would consider valid to get rid of it. BTW do you want help with a52dec? Eg. fix lintian warnings, libtoolize and convert to DEB5, DEB3, quilt, dh7 or CDBS etc Well, at the moment I am the only (active) maintainer for a52dec in Debian, but my interest in the package could be more vivid, I admit. I'd highly appreciate if you could help out a bit and bring the package to the newest packaging standards. Cause I have a little bit of time to do this. (I'll send git format-patches) That sounds perfect, because the packaging is actually tracked in our GIT repository at [2] now. To work on the package I highly recommend you to apply as a member of the pkg-multimedia team on Alioth. [2] http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-multimedia/a52dec.git;a=summary Cheers, Fabian -- Dipl.-Phys. Bug#551751: gnome-panel: some application icons lost transparency in notification area
reassign 551751python-eggtrayicon thanks Jakub Lucký wrote: Package: gnome-panel Version: 2.28.0-1 Severity: minor Hi I am using Gnome for long time (about 2 years on Debian now) and during some updates in the past (Can't be really sure, my computer was crashed for a long while) some application icons lost their transparency, so it looks weird when you have transparent panel... I checked that .xpm and .png file from /usr/share/pixmaps, which is (probably) displayed on that panel, and it has transparency around I am submitting screenshot... I bet this is a problem with EggTrayIcon. I've checked gmail-notify and gajim and both use it (gmail-notify through the python bindings) so I'll assume I'm right :) Since the egg code is used directly from the packages and there's no Debian package, but there is a python-eggtrayicon, I'm reassigning this bug to it. When I have the time I'll report bugs against packages using EggTrayIcon asking them to switch to GtkStatusIcon. Cheers, Emilio signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

From the first forty or so Google search results for [ pkill -v ], it looks like nobody in those search results uses pkill -v some_process_name except by accident. They only use -v purposefully when they use it with -u, as in pkill -v -u root or pkill -v -u 0,1 or pkill -v -u root, daemon, nobody, gdm. Bug#558691: lshal and Xorg logs
Hi Julien, I reproduced the lack of keyboard support today, please see attached logs. I did another fresh installation for this but forgot to attach my USB mouse and keyboard receiver (still using a PS/2 keyboard for the new system) like I did in the previous attempt. I did a fresh squeeze installation and ran installed x-window-system and xdm. After installation, I noticed that I did not connect the USB mouse and keyboard that I had last time (the PS/2 receiver was connected as well due to d-i not working with USB kbd/mouse). Interestingly, after starting xdm I had a core pointer working (the USB mouse), but no keyboard. At least, the PS/2 connected keyboard is not working, I did not test with the USB keyboard (sorry, gotta get going...). I do not have much time currently, so I hope the attached logs are helpful. I had to reboot using sys-rq this time (did not install ssh, ouch!). After rebooting, Xorg has keyboard and mouse working fine. Bug#559149: splashy does not work with parallel booting
Subject: splashy does not work with parallel booting Package: splashy Version: 0.3.13-5.1 Severity: normal if I enable parallel booting with echo CONCURRENCY=makefile /etc/default/rcS Splashy will cause the boot process to stop at the very early stage of init scripts, but I do not know where exactly it stops, because reset the computer is the only thing I can do when it hangs. it boots ok with splashy disabled or use CONCURRENCY=none since sysv-rc began to depend on insserv and made parallel booting the default, splashy stops working , So I switched to usplash for a while, it works ok with parallel booting, but it does not work well during halt or reboot,it always chvt to tty1 and prints out the verbose message. So I switch back to splashy again only to find that it still does not work with parallel booting. I will try to figure out at which exact point the boot process stops but I don't know how to do that for now. I wonder if anyone can give me some advice. Bug#461125: ocaml-nox: linking into a shared library fails due to R_X86_64_32 relocations
Hello, I also ran into this issue and found the following workaround: 1) recompile libasmrun.a with -fPIC 2) link my library with -Wl,-Bsymbolic Then I am able to run a C binary that calls ocaml where ocaml lives in the created .so. 2) is not very nice. I tried solving it by sprinkling @PLT symbol tags in asmrun/amd64.S instead. This makes everything compile and link without - Bsymbolic but segfaults with an uncomprehensive error. It would be very nice if you could adapt the ocaml build to build libasmrun.a with -fPIC on the x86_64(amd64) architecture by default. Bug#557998: gvfs: mounting LUKS-encrypted usb-stick ignores label
Sorry for the delayed answer. Actually, both are correctly set: # blkid -o udev -p /dev/mapper/devkit-disks-luks-uuid-(...)-uid1000 ID_FS_LABEL=personal ID_FS_LABEL_ENC=personal ID_FS_UUID=(...) ID_FS_UUID_ENC=(...)
