Bug#561213: texlive-base does not install: Building Formats broken
Package: texlive-base Version: 2009-4 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable -- Package-specific info: If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries (latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the error in your report. Don't forget to also include minimal examples of other files that are needed, e.g. bibtex databases. Often it also helps to include the logfile. Please, never send included pictures! If your example file isn't short or produces more than one page of output (except when multiple pages are needed to show the problem), you can probably minimize it further. First, for clarification, I believe the relevant packages that are potentially affected are: Etch (oldstable): heartbeat 1.2.5-3, heartbeat-2 2.0.7-2 Etch-backports:2.1.3-6~bpo40+2 Lenny (stable):heartbeat 2.1.3-6lenny4 Lenny-backports: 2.1.4-7~bpo50+1 Squeeze (testing): heartbeat 2.1.4-7 Sid (unstable):heartbeat 2.1.4-7 Experimental: heartbeat 2.99.2+sles11r9-1 With reference to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=537941, which seems to be the most comprehensive source of information on this topic from a coding point of view, I have noted the following: * In the Etch, Lenny, Sqeeze and Sid versions of heartbeat (and heartbeat-2) .la files are only provided in -dev packages, which I suspect would not ordinarily be installed. I am unsure of the status of this with regards to the Experimental version. * In the Etch version the only place that lt_dlopen*() appears to be called is inside the PILS library. And in a somewhat verbose way PILS ensures that the argument passed to lt_dlopen() is an absolute path which begins with /usr/lib/heartbeat/plugins (PLUGIN_DIR, set at compile time). I will verify this in the other versions. Probably tomorrow. The Etch, Etch-backports, Lenny and Lenny-backports versions seem to share the property that lt_dlopen is always passed a fully qualified path, and its always under the somewhat secure directory /usr/lib/heartbeat * The Squeeze, Sid and Experimental versions do not use their own ltdl. With the latter point in mind I am suspecting that heartbeat (and heartbeat-2) is not vulnerable to this problem. I would greatly appreciate other opinions on this. Here are my first obvious comments, before even trying to send that upstream: - Please add the license boilerplate at the top of the files you add, with proper contributor listing. (See the files in the same directory for examples) - ifeq (sh,$(findstring sh,$(OS_TEST))) seems a bit risky. What is the platform name ? sh only ? filter would be better than findstring, then. If it is shsomething, then filter sh% would be better. Now, for a stupid question, does that add support for all the SuperH processors (from SH-1), a subset (as SH-1 and 2 were pretty limited, I would assume from SH-3), or only the latest ones (SH-4 ? SH-5 ?) Would it build on the netbsd port on dreamcast ? Finally, I see there currently is some support for sh/sh3/sh4 in nspr and nss, is that enough? Bug#558691: Also on upgrade
Hi, I just ran into this after upgrading a sid system. The X server was not upgraded, but hal and udev were, and when I restarted the X server (I needed to restart kdm) the keyboard and the mouse stopped working. It did appear to be a hal problem, so I disabled AutoAddDevices in xorg.conf, which eliminated the problem temporarily. And then I found this bug report and rebooted, which got rid of it permanently. I have before/after lshal output dumps that I can provide if you think they're useful. Also, the problem might be further down the stack indeed, as when I was rebooting I saw messages like failed - is udev active? (when laptop mode was stopping). En ese caso, debe crear el usuario dtc y el grupo dtcgrp, y cambiar el propietario y el grupo del binario sbox a «dtc:dtcgrp», de lo contrario no necesitará realizar estas operaciones.
Bug#561220: Sigkill during key generation nukes otr.private_key
Subject: pidgin-otr: Sigkill during key generation nukes otr.private_key Package: pidgin-otr Version: 3.2.0-4 Severity: important I log in. Immediately someone with OTR enabled IMs an old account with no OTR. Pidgin's ENTIRE UI freezes for a long time while it auto-generates an OTR key. As an aside, I'd suggest prompting before generating a key with auto-encrypt as this makes the entire app unusable for several minutes and is liable to confuse a user. Anyway, being in a hurry I kill it with sigkill, log back on, and send my important message after disabling the other account...and it freezes again, regenerating the key for my account that already has one. It had deleted my keys. This has a happy ending because I keep backups, but I'd argue this is a pretty serious issue. I know sigkill is hard to deal with, but perhaps you could move the file to .otr_private_keys.bak or something, then do the key generation/file writing business, then unlink the backup, just to be safe? OTR is intended to be encryption for the masses and the masses don't keep backups. And even if the masses don't kill -9 they do power off and xkill when a program freezes for no apparent reason. Bonus points if you can fix the underlying issue as well (note that this occurred multiple times, so if it's a race condition it's a pretty long one). That is, not open the key file for writing until you have all the entropy you need to write it out all at once. Sure there's a tiny window of vulnerability there but this is better than nothing. Thanks for putting in the work for this plugin, it's very nice to have, and thanks to the Adium implemention is quite widespread, even among the not so techno-savvy. I'm just glad this happened to me and not someone without backups. Sorry it's taken so long to update the status of this - it's been a while since I've been in a position to retest it. It's still breaking on a fresh lenny build for me (debconf 1.5.24) - exactly the same symptoms. I wonder if #50595 and #294043 are related too. Looks like patches should still apply fine. Bug#550103: pycocuma: does not save changes to file
Hi, I spent some time trying to reproduce this, but I were unable to do so. 1. Create a new contact and fill in some details 2. Click save on the toolbar 3. Then use the window manager's close command One possibility would be wmctrl -c PyCoCuMa That doesn't work, because it does not kill the application. According to xprop PyCoCuMa - http://localhost:8810; is the right string for the client. Therefore wmctrl -c PyCoCuMa - http://localhost:8810; works for me. Using the window manager (xmonad in my case) close function does not produce the issue in question. 4. Check the contacts file for changes and see none Works for me. This is completely another problem. Indeed it would be better patching in order to use the system library instead of statically linking a local copy. I suspect it is due to the need to have in sync liblt and the local libtool stuff, to avoid breakages from time to time when system libtool is updated. What I see is that this is a quite common choice by upstreams... It's my understanding that libltdl is intended to be embedded in applications by upstream libtool. However, package in Debian should almost always link to the shared version provided in the libltdl package. It's my understanding that build-depeding on libltdl-dev should be enough for that in most cases, but the packages using the local version are probably configured to do so. The documentation has this to say about it: If the `--with-included-ltdl' is not passed at configure time, and an installed `libltdl' is not found(2), then `configure' will exit immediately with an error that asks the user to either specify the location of an installed `libltdl' using the `--with-ltdl-include' and `--with-ltdl-lib' options, or to build with the `libltdl' sources shipped with the package by passing `--with-included-ltdl'. Unfortunately in the specific case of proftpd, the autoconf scripts (which are not automake based) rely specifically onto the local library. After some trials on my side with some extended patches, it is now able to use the system-wide library but as one can expect it fails on linking. To be short, the internal libtool scripts need to be in sync - as one can expect - with the libltdl and a relibtoolization is required at every new libtool release. Too bad. I'm not happy of having to run autotools at every build or maintaining another ugly autoconf patch of such a kind. -- Francesco P. Bug#561233: RFA: xdaliclock -- Melting digital clock
Package: wnpp Severity: normal I request an adopter for the xdaliclock package as I'm not actually actively using this package anymore. It's just some straightforward packaging, nothing complicated, and basically in good shape. There were some new upstream releases, but none of the changes were relevant for Debian. Still, they could be packaged ... The package description is: The xdaliclock program displays a digital clock; when a digit changes, it melts into its new shape. . It can display in 12 or 24 hour modes, and displays the date when a mouse button is held down. It has two large fonts built into it, but it can animate most other fonts that contain all of the digits. It can also do some funky psychedelic colormap cycling, and can use the shape extension so that the window is shaped like the digits. Cheers, Flo signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#558980: clarification, final workaround
Removing -fstack-check from the compiler options when building the libraries and the test fixes the problem. The earlier statement building from source without the libraries fixes the problem is misleading; -fstack-check was left out of the compiler options in that build. So GNADE is useable, but there is a bug in gcc related to -fstack-check. This is already reported in the GCC Bugzilla: http://gcc.gnu.org/PR10127 http://gcc.gnu.org/PR13182 http://gcc.gnu.org/PR13757 http://gcc.gnu.org/PR20548 http://gcc.gnu.org/PR34118 http://gcc.gnu.org/PR39306 -- -- Stephe -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#436119: ITA: dict-gcide
Hi, I have ITAed the package dict-gcide because I use it. I don't have much idea about lexical databases (that being one of the reason adopting it), so hope to gather some help here. The copyright file lists that the copy of GCIDE is archived. I am not very sure who the current upstream is and if this database is still actively maintained. There have been many bugfixes to typos and definitions but I don't see a debian/patches folder. Is Debian the only distribution packaging it now ? Currently there are 19 open bug reports against this package. If I intend to fix them, where do I submit the patches ? This package was orphaned more than 2 years ago and the previous maintainer (Bob Hilliard) seems to be in-active. PS: CCing the DDs who have NMUed this package in the past. At our institute (http://itp.tugraz.at/) we are using a Debian Cluster of Workstations for parallel computation, so we could really use this package. Since I am new to Debian project, I would need a sponsor to become a new maintainer. (though I have built, backported and customized packages for our internal use) Are there any major difficulties with the package or does Ondrej just not have the time to maintain it? Bug#530626: What about 0.4.7?
0.5.3 is in experimental. It is not compatible with the 0.22 opensync syncml plugin. So unless there is major use of it for other things (I am not aware of much), or somebody ports the 0.22 syncml plugin to the 0.5.x API, or 0.4x gets released and uploaded to unstable, libsyncml-0.5.x will have to stay in experimental, sorry. What about 0.4.7? According to the changelog it has support for libsoup 2.4. Is that compatible with the 0.22 opensync syncml plugin? Sep, 14:27 (+0200) geschrieben: Package: debsecan Version: 0.4.12 Severity: normal Hi, after a fresh install of debsecan the debconf doesn't contain my selection for debsecan/suite. I'm using dpkg-preconfigure that might cause this bug pops up. I had a look at this bug and here's what I found out: The order the package scripts are called and what dpkg does is this: dpkg --unpack installs the file in /etc/default/debsecan dpkg --configure runs debsecan.config and debsecan.postinst debsecan.config reads the content of /etc/default/debsecan and sets these values as default values, then it asks the user With dpkg-preconfigure you get this: dpkg-preconfigure runs debsecan.config debsecan.config asks the user dpkg --unpack installs the file in /etc/default/debsecan dpkg --configure runs debsecan.config and debsecan.postinst debsecan.config reads the content of /etc/default/debsecan and sets these values as default values, but doesn't ask the user, because the questions are all marked as seen The second run of debsecan.config destroys the settings the user made in the first call. The config script should not reset the value of the answer, if the user already answered the question. But I'm not sure how this works with dpkg-reconfigure and a manual change in /e/d/debsecan. And I saw the function normalize_suite in config doesn't allow lenny, i.e. you can't select lenny, it always becomes reset to GENERIC. Regards, Jörg. -- Erfahrung heißt gar nichts. Package: gfortran-4.4 Version: 4.4.2-5 When compiling a test program containing only an include, the compiler does not fail when not finding the include as it should: $ cat testinclude.f90 program testinc include 'notthere.inc' print *, 'I''m running although I shouldn''t even compile.' end program $ gfortran-4.4 -o testinclude testinclude.f90 testinclude.f90:2: Error: Can't open included file 'notthere.inc' $ echo $? 0 $ ./testinclude I'm running although I shouldn't even compile. The expected result of echo $? in the above case is of course 1 and no binary should have been produced. I tested this on amd64 with gfortran-4.4 version 4.4.2-3 and 4.4.2-5. I'm currently back to gfortran-4.3 which shows the expected behaviour: $ gfortran-4.3 -o testinclude testinclude.f90 Error: Can't open included file 'notthere.inc' $ echo $? 1 The bug is particularly annoying because it breaks many autoconf-style tests. In my test, bcp was able to clone a file, suggesting that this may be a Coreutils bug rather than a kernel issue. In this case, the upstream version of libsvm-ruby also shouldn’t depend on the libsvm.pc file being available. I’d just go ahead and change libsvm-ruby’s extconf.rb to set $CFLAGS and $LDFLAGS instead of using pkgconfig. In my opinion there is little chance for the upstream packaging to be improved in LIBSVM as I have been trying to convince upstream to do certain improvements for years and they resisted. Now I am reducing my investment in LIBSVM related technology to 0. This is because we think libsvm is only a simple library(one header and one library), also we want to keep it as simple as possible and as close to upstream as possible. If it causes too many inconvenience, I will consider to re-introduce it back. Thanks for your suggestion. Ah, I see, so the pkgconfig file is a Debian-specific addition. In this case, the upstream version of libsvm-ruby also shouldn’t depend on the libsvm.pc file being available. I’d just go ahead and change libsvm-ruby’s extconf.rb to set $CFLAGS and $LDFLAGS instead of using pkgconfig. Bug#561251: mount: Bluebirds shows as /media/dvd when no disk is in reader!
Package: mount Version: 2.16.2-0 Severity: minor Weird! When I remove a disk from my dvd rewriter, I get a phantom volume labelled Bluebirds in /media/dvd. I can even open at least one of the file - autorun.inf - and read it. There are also 3 .exe files (bluebirds.exe, dragburn.exe and s e t u p.exe) that I haven't tried to run. The obvious answer would be that they exist in the /media/dvd directory. However, that is not the case. I also can't rm them. I get an error saying it's a read-only file system. Moreover, I can umount /media/dvd and the files dissappear. Unfortunately, they reappear the next time I remove a disk from the reader. It looks like there is some kind of automount happening. However, I can't find a bluebirds.exe file on my system, so it's not mounting some local files. There is also nothing showing up in /etc/mtab when Bluebirds seems to be mounted. This has been going on for several months now. It's not a serious problem, but it's strange and annoying to have KDE tell me that Blubirds has been mounted every time I removed a disk from my DVD rewriter. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-2-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages mount depends on: ii libblkid1 2.16.2-0 block device id library ii libc6 2.10.2-2 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libselinux1 2.0.89-4 SELinux runtime shared libraries ii libsepol1 2.0.40-2 SELinux library for manipulating b ii libuuid1 2.16.2-0 Universally Unique ID library mount recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#561176: krb5-kdc-ldap: krb5kdc leaks file descriptors
I've forwarded your bug upstream. I don't see any changes in upstream svn since 1.7 that are likely to be a fix and I'm unlikely to have time to look at this myself in the next month or so. --Sam -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#557929: Why I don't think breaks is the right approach

If that's the case, then the problem is unlikely to happen for others in the future. Harald No matter what happened exactly in my case, I see it quite Harald likely that people break their system. The only thing you Harald have to do is to install a package from testing/unstable on Harald a lenny system with a dependency to libk5crypto3 and then Harald uninstall it again. Libk5crypto3 will get uninstalled as Harald well, as it is marked as an automatic dependency and it's Harald good bye for your remote system. Understood. I'm willing to take that particular risk. The situations I'm most worried about are: * upgrades to squeeze breaking * People who are continually tracking a few packages from squeeze * breaking. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
