Bug#561213: texlive-base does not install: Building Formats broken

2009-12-15 Thread Gerd Sebald
Package: texlive-base
Version: 2009-4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

-- Package-specific info:
If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries
(latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong
output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the
error in your report. Don't forget to also include minimal examples of
other files that are needed, e.g. bibtex databases. Often it also helps
to include the logfile. Please, never send included pictures!

If your example file isn't short or produces more than one page of
output (except when multiple pages are needed to show the problem),
you can probably minimize it further. Instructions on how to do that
can be found at

http://www.latex-einfuehrung.de/mini-en.html (english)

   Hi,

The following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities Exposures) id was
published for libtool. I see that heartbeat in unstable no longer
embeds libtool, but it appears that etch and lenny still have it. I am
not sure if it is actually used in the binary packages though. Please
check. If those packages are not affected, please close the bug.

   CVE-2009-3736[0]:
   | ltdl.c in libltdl in GNU Libtool 1.5.x, and 2.2.6 before 2.2.6b,
   | attempts to open a .la file in the current working directory, which
   | allows local users to gain privileges via a Trojan horse file.

Note that this problem also affects etch and lenny, so if your package
is affected, please coordinate with the security team to release the
   DSA for the affected packages.

If you fix the vulnerability please also make sure to include the
CVE id in your changelog entry.

   For further information see:

   [0] http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2009-3736
   http://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/CVE-2009-3736

  Hi,

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

First, for clarification, I believe the relevant packages that are
  potentially
  affected are:

  Etch (oldstable): heartbeat 1.2.5-3, heartbeat-2 2.0.7-2
   Etch-backports:2.1.3-6~bpo40+2
  Lenny (stable):heartbeat 2.1.3-6lenny4
   Lenny-backports: 2.1.4-7~bpo50+1
  Squeeze (testing): heartbeat 2.1.4-7
  Sid (unstable):heartbeat 2.1.4-7
  Experimental: heartbeat 2.99.2+sles11r9-1

  With reference to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=537941,
which seems to be the most comprehensive source of information on this topic
from a coding point of view, I have noted the following:

  * In the Etch, Lenny, Sqeeze and Sid versions of heartbeat
(and heartbeat-2) .la files are only provided in -dev packages,
which I suspect would not ordinarily be installed.

I am unsure of the status of this with regards to the Experimental
  version.

  * In the Etch version the only place that lt_dlopen*() appears to be called
is inside the PILS library. And in a somewhat verbose way PILS ensures
that the argument passed to lt_dlopen() is an absolute path which begins
with /usr/lib/heartbeat/plugins (PLUGIN_DIR, set at compile time).

I will verify this in the other versions. Probably tomorrow.

The Etch, Etch-backports, Lenny and Lenny-backports versions
seem to share the property that lt_dlopen is always
passed a fully qualified path, and its always under
 the somewhat secure directory /usr/lib/heartbeat

   * The Squeeze, Sid and Experimental versions do not use
 their own ltdl.

With the latter point in mind I am suspecting that heartbeat
(and heartbeat-2) is not vulnerable to this problem. I would
greatly appreciate other opinions on this.

Ping: Any comment on this analysis?

I'm sorry, this bug totally dropped off my attention. I'll try to check
  the patch this week.

A bit late, but here I am.

Here are my first obvious comments, before even trying to send that
upstream:
- Please add the license boilerplate at the top of the files you add,
with proper contributor listing. (See the files in the same directory
  for examples)
- ifeq (sh,$(findstring sh,$(OS_TEST))) seems a bit risky. What is the
platform name ? sh only ? filter would be better than findstring,
then. If it is shsomething, then filter sh% would be better.

Now, for a stupid question, does that add support for all the SuperH
processors (from SH-1), a subset (as SH-1 and 2 were pretty limited, I
would assume from SH-3), or only the latest ones (SH-4 ? SH-5 ?)
Would it build on the netbsd port on dreamcast ?

Finally, I see there currently is some support for sh/sh3/sh4 in nspr
and nss, is that enough?

Cheers,

Mike

Bug#558691: Also on upgrade

2009-12-15 Thread Vasilis Vasaitis
  Hi,

I just ran into this after upgrading a sid system. The X server was
not upgraded, but hal and udev were, and when I restarted the X server
(I needed to restart kdm) the keyboard and the mouse stopped working.
It did appear to be a hal problem, so I disabled AutoAddDevices in
xorg.conf, which eliminated the problem temporarily. And then I found
this bug report and rebooted, which got rid of it permanently.

I have before/after lshal output dumps that I can provide if you
think they're useful.

Also, the problem might be further down the stack indeed, as when I
was rebooting I saw messages like failed - is udev active? (when
laptop mode was stopping).

Thanks,
Vasilis

Bug#559402: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#559402: Bug#559402: xfce4-panel: 'Editor' launcher freezes entire X session

2009-12-15 Thread Piotr Engelking
Yves-Alexis Perez cor...@debian.org:

What do you mean by “the entire session”? xfce4-session? Or all xfce
 related processus?

Xfce4-session and all its descendants, with the exception of shells
started by X terminals and their descendants.

And in fact I already did that to fix #426164 but it the launcher is
still shipped (but the config file does not have it so it shouldn't even
 be displayed).

Could you try with a fresh user and report back if the launcher is
present or not? (assuming you didn't yourself modify
the /etc/xdg/xfce4/panel/panels.xml and didnt merge the modification in
 4.4.2-4 but I guess it's not the case :) )

With a fresh user, there is only one panel and the launcher is not
present. It seems that both users I tested had old Xfce configuration
files I was not aware of (and it didn't occur to me to look under
~/.config). Sorry for the noise. :(

Bug#561220: Sigkill during key generation nukes otr.private_key

2009-12-15 Thread Alex Roper

Subject: pidgin-otr: Sigkill during key generation nukes otr.private_key
Package: pidgin-otr
Version: 3.2.0-4
Severity: important

I log in. Immediately someone with OTR enabled IMs an old account with
no OTR. Pidgin's ENTIRE UI freezes for a long time while it
auto-generates an OTR key. As an aside, I'd suggest prompting before
generating a key with auto-encrypt as this makes the entire app unusable
for several minutes and is liable to confuse a user.

Anyway, being in a hurry I kill it with sigkill, log back on, and send
my important message after disabling the other account...and it freezes
again, regenerating the key for my account that already has one.

It had deleted my keys.

This has a happy ending because I keep backups, but I'd argue this is a
pretty serious issue. I know sigkill is hard to deal with, but perhaps
you could move the file to .otr_private_keys.bak or something, then do
the key generation/file writing business, then unlink the backup, just
to be safe? OTR is intended to be encryption for the masses and the
masses don't keep backups. And even if the masses don't kill -9 they do
power off and xkill when a program freezes for no apparent reason.

Bonus points if you can fix the underlying issue as well (note that this
occurred multiple times, so if it's a race condition it's a pretty long
one). That is, not open the key file for writing until you have all the
entropy you need to write it out all at once. Sure there's a tiny window
of vulnerability there but this is better than nothing.

Thanks for putting in the work for this plugin, it's very nice to have,
and thanks to the Adium implemention is quite widespread, even among the
not so techno-savvy. I'm just glad this happened to me and not someone
without backups.

Alex

Bug#439763: debconf: hangs on puppet installs on preseed install

2009-12-15 Thread Adrian Bridgett
Sorry it's taken so long to update the status of this - it's been a
while since I've been in a position to retest it.

It's still breaking on a fresh lenny build for me (debconf 1.5.24) -
exactly the same symptoms. I wonder if #50595 and #294043 are related
too. Looks like patches should still apply fine.

It has 2.6.30 as kernel, so should work fine for you. You only have to

If you cannot, I doubt there's anything wrong with network-console itself.

Thanks, I'll take a look. For reference it's getting as far as
calling udpkg (in /bin/network-console-menu) which then calls
/var/lib/dpkg/info/di-utils-shell.postinst. That is getting as far as
running db_input but then I'm kicked out.

I started getting random python segfaults in the log (see log below).
There are no additional trace lines in my log, though.

All of them are from 5 different python cgi scripts out of a bigger
set, and apparently they succeed without segfault most of the time.
Actually the segfaults seem to happen only once in every 1 or more
tries.

All the scripts do file I/O, but do not use any exotic python modules.

The simplest one I've seen fail is available from:
http://code.google.com/p/migrid/source/browse/trunk/mig/cgi-sid/isjobactive.py

It is a production server, but please inform me if there is anything I
can test without too much down-time.

And it looks like as if the ping response are getting slower if i try to load
a website at the same time.

What can i do to isolate this bug?

I will try to find an other wifi, and see if it's working better else were.
Also
i can try to compile the .32 from the kernel.org source and check if that
works better.

Anything else i could try?

Thanks
Carl

I am running kernel 2.6.32 with a Btrfs root file system under KVM, x86-64

It was suggested on the Btrfs mailing list that I test file cloning by running
the bcp demonstration script provided as part of btrfs-progs (available from

suggesting that this may be a Coreutils bug rather than a kernel issue.

Bug#550103: pycocuma: does not save changes to file

2009-12-15 Thread Patrick Schoenfeld
Hi,

I spent some time trying to reproduce this, but I were
unable to do so.

 1. Create a new contact and fill in some details
 2. Click save on the toolbar
 3. Then use the window manager's close command
One possibility would be wmctrl -c PyCoCuMa

That doesn't work, because it does not kill the
application. According to xprop PyCoCuMa - http://localhost:8810;
is the right string for the client. Therefore

wmctrl -c PyCoCuMa - http://localhost:8810;

works for me. Using the window manager (xmonad in my case) close
function does not produce the issue in question.

 4. Check the contacts file for changes and see none

Works for me.

Best Regards,
Patrick

There is a transition of libdevstat6 - libdevstat7,
unfortunately binNMU does not suffices due to 8.x kernel headers.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Bug#559842: CVE-2009-3736 local privilege escalation

using the system version, which would avoid this kind of bugs to be have

   fixed in proftpd at all.

This is completely another problem. Indeed it would be better patching
in order to use the system library instead of statically linking a local
copy. I suspect it is due to the need to have in sync liblt and the
local libtool stuff, to avoid breakages from time to time when
system libtool is updated. What I see is that this is a quite common
  choice by upstreams...

It's my understanding that libltdl is intended to be embedded in
applications by upstream libtool. However, package in Debian
should almost always link to the shared version provided in the
libltdl package. It's my understanding that build-depeding on
libltdl-dev should be enough for that in most cases, but the
packages using the local version are probably configured to do so.

The documentation has this to say about it:
If the `--with-included-ltdl' is not passed at configure time, and
an installed `libltdl' is not found(2), then `configure' will exit
immediately with an error that asks the user to either specify the
location of an installed `libltdl' using the `--with-ltdl-include'
and `--with-ltdl-lib' options, or to build with the `libltdl'
sources shipped with the package by passing `--with-included-ltdl'.

Unfortunately in the specific case of proftpd, the autoconf scripts (which are
not automake based) rely specifically onto the local library. After some trials
on my side with some extended patches, it is now able to use the system-wide
library but as one can expect it fails on linking. To be short, the internal
libtool scripts need to be in sync - as one can expect - with the libltdl
and a relibtoolization is required at every new libtool release. Too bad.
I'm not happy of having to run autotools at every build or maintaining
another ugly autoconf patch of such a kind.

It's not like you have a choice anyway, autoreconfiguration is mandatory
for packages which use libtool.
Look at the udev package for a trivial recipe to do it without blowing
up the .diff.gz with mechanical changes.

Bug#561228: VCS-CVS are converted to bogus hyperlinks

2009-12-15 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Package: qa.debian.org
Severity: wishlist

Lines of the form
│Vcs-CVS: :ext:_anon...@anoncvs.mirbsd.org:/cvs contrib/hosted/tg/deb/makefs
are converted to bogus hyperlinks of the form
│http://packages.qa.debian.org/libb/:ext:_anoncvs%40anoncvs.mirbsd.org:/cvs%20contrib/hosted/tg/deb/libbsd-arc4random-perl
which is wrong for a number of reasons.

CVS specifications are not URIs, they consist of two parts, and
the separator is important (i.e. the parts cannot possibly be
easily concatenated), as it specifies the location of the root.

So I suggest to not make hyperlinks out of VCS-CVS fields, but
maybe display them as hover information.

VCS-Browser, if existent, are fine though.

Pandoc, like many other Haskell programs, uses Template Haskell,
which requires a stage-2 compiler. I'm not sure why the ghc compiler
on hppa is only stage-1, but that would be the place to fix the
 problem.

Happens on alpha, hppa, and kfreebsd-i386 with 1.3-1, i386 is building

Bug#561232: libtorrent11: encryption = try_outgoing,enable_retry is borked

Version: 0.12.5-2

Submitted upstream as bug 2008:
http://libtorrent.rakshasa.no/ticket/2008

I'm seeing the same issue as
http://libtorrent.rakshasa.no/ticket/1748

The server side is running Debian/stable with bittorrent 3.4.2-11.1, which
doesn't support encryption. When I have encryption =
allow_incoming,try_outgoing,enable_retry on the client side I see one attempted
encrypted handshake, but no unencrypted retry in wireshark.

I've tracked this down to create_outgoing() filtering out the retry because of
PeerList::connect_filter_recent. If I comment out the
PeerList::connect_filter_recent retry works as expected.

I've tried checking this bug against SVN, but it doesn't compile:
../../../rak/allocators.h:77: error: ‘L1_CACHE_BYTES’ was not declared in this
scope

The following hackish patch fixes this issue for me:

Bug#561233: RFA: xdaliclock -- Melting digital clock

2009-12-15 Thread Florian Ernst
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the xdaliclock package as I'm not actually
actively using this package anymore.

It's just some straightforward packaging, nothing complicated, and
basically in good shape.
There were some new upstream releases, but none of the changes were
relevant for Debian. Still, they could be packaged ...

The package description is:
The xdaliclock program displays a digital clock; when a digit changes,
it melts into its new shape.
 .
It can display in 12 or 24 hour modes, and displays the date when a
mouse button is held down. It has two large fonts built into it, but
it can animate most other fonts that contain all of the digits. It
can also do some funky psychedelic colormap cycling, and can use the
shape extension so that the window is shaped like the digits.

Cheers,
Flo

Bug#558980: clarification, final workaround

Removing -fstack-check from the compiler options when building the

The earlier statement building from source without the libraries
fixes the problem is misleading; -fstack-check was left out of the

So GNADE is useable, but there is a bug in gcc related to
-fstack-check. This is already reported in the GCC Bugzilla:

I was playing kbounce, when I encountered a weird problem. I had a section

the ball got really close to it, and somehow, both halves filled. The ball
wasn't
trapped in the wall, and actually bounced out of the playing area. Supposedly. I
noticed the walls weren't filling right afterwards.

Bug#561235: Crash when exiting pidgin and a chat window is still open

2009-12-15 Thread Markus Rechberg
Package: pidgin
Version: 2.6.4-1
Severity: important

Pidgin crashes every time when the program is excited and at least one chat
window is still open. Seems to be protocol independent (reproducible with XMPP
and ICQ contacts). It is not necessary that any message was send. Opening a
chat window and then exciting pidgin is enough to reproduce the crash.
Important because it breaks the chat history log (everything or at least the
last part from this session will be missing in the chat history log).

Bug#561232: ignore the debsums error

BTW,
-- debsums errors found:
debsums: changed file /usr/lib/libtorrent.so.11.0.5 (from

is because I skipped recreating the .deb over and over again during
debugging and just copied the src/.libs/libtorrent.so to /usr/lib.

FWIW, here are readymade patched binary .debs:

Bug#436119: ITA: dict-gcide

2009-12-15 Thread Ritesh Raj Sarraf
Hi,

I have ITAed the package dict-gcide because I use it.
I don't have much idea about lexical databases (that being one of the reason
adopting it), so hope to gather some help here.

The copyright file lists that the copy of GCIDE is archived. I am not very sure
who the current upstream is and if this database is still actively maintained.

There have been many bugfixes to typos and definitions but I don't see a
debian/patches folder. Is Debian the only distribution packaging it now ?
Currently there are 19 open bug reports against this package. If I intend to
fix them, where do I submit the patches ?

This package was orphaned more than 2 years ago and the previous maintainer
(Bob Hilliard) seems to be in-active.

PS: CCing the DDs who have NMUed this package in the past.

Regards,
Ritesh

Bug#561099: what about decimal wraparound?

2009-12-15 Thread Thiemo Nagel
Ordinary users will be affected as soon as the linux kernel version adds
another digit:

* 2.6.100
* 2.10.x
* 10.x.x

Even today 2.6.30.10 sorts before 2.6.30.9, so anybody who builds his
own kernel may be affected (not -rc kernels only).

As said in the subject, the mode (kde expression is permissions) of
backup files is set to 777.

I locate the bug (line 254 in src/core/filehandler.cpp) but as it uses
the KDE gedöns KIO::* and KFileItem::* I do not know how to patch that
correctly. However, KIO::chmod(..., -1, 0, ...) seems to be not the
correct way.

Bug#550458: RFA: petsc4py -- Python bindings for PETSc

2009-12-15 Thread albert
Hi!

I'm thinking about contributing to the Debian project by adopting this
package.

At our institute (http://itp.tugraz.at/) we are using a Debian Cluster of
Workstations for parallel computation, so we could really use this package.

Since I am new to Debian project, I would need a sponsor to become a new
maintainer. (though I have built, backported and customized packages for our
internal use)

Are there any major difficulties with the package or does Ondrej just not
have the time to maintain it?

Regards,
Chris

Bug#530626: What about 0.4.7?

2009-12-15 Thread Julian Tibble
0.5.3 is in experimental. It is not compatible with the 0.22 opensync
syncml plugin. So unless there is major use of it for other things (I
am not aware of much), or somebody ports the 0.22 syncml plugin
to the 0.5.x API, or 0.4x gets released and uploaded to unstable,
libsyncml-0.5.x will have to stay in experimental, sorry.

What about 0.4.7? According to the changelog it has support for
libsoup 2.4. Is that compatible with the 0.22 opensync syncml
plugin?

Regards,

Bug#559782: centerim: CVE-2008-4776

2009-12-15 Thread Boris Petersen
Hmm we've fixed this a long time ago. CenterIM doesn't seem to have a
maintainer anymore.

 Hi,
the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities Exposures) id was
published for libgadu.  Centerim embeds libgadu, so it is affected.

 CVE-2008-4776[0]:
 | libgadu before 1.8.2 allows remote servers to cause a denial of
 | service (crash) via a contact description with a large length, which
 | triggers a buffer over-read.

If you fix the vulnerability please also make sure to include the
CVE id in your changelog entry.

Bug#545363: debsecan doesn't use debconf properly

2009-12-15 Thread Jörg Sommer
Package: debsecan
Tags: 545363 - moreinfo
thanks

Jörg Sommer hat am Sun 06. Sep, 14:27 (+0200) geschrieben:
 Package: debsecan
 Version: 0.4.12
 Severity: normal

 Hi,

after a fresh install of debsecan the debconf doesn't contain my
selection for debsecan/suite. I'm using dpkg-preconfigure that might
 cause this bug pops up.

I had a look at this bug and here's what I found out:

The order the package scripts are called and what dpkg does is this:

dpkg --unpack installs the file in /etc/default/debsecan
dpkg --configure runs debsecan.config and debsecan.postinst
debsecan.config reads the content of /etc/default/debsecan and sets these
values as default values, then it asks the user

With dpkg-preconfigure you get this:

dpkg-preconfigure runs debsecan.config
debsecan.config asks the user
dpkg --unpack installs the file in /etc/default/debsecan
dpkg --configure runs debsecan.config and debsecan.postinst
debsecan.config reads the content of /etc/default/debsecan and sets these
values as default values, but doesn't ask the user, because the
questions are all marked as seen

The second run of debsecan.config destroys the settings the user made in
the first call. The config script should not reset the value of the
answer, if the user already answered the question. But I'm not sure how
this works with dpkg-reconfigure and a manual change in /e/d/debsecan.

And I saw the function normalize_suite in config doesn't allow lenny,
i.e. you can't select lenny, it always becomes reset to GENERIC.

Regards, Jörg.

Bug#561181: sepia: install fails with emacs23

2009-12-15 Thread Hilko Bengen
* Kevin Ryde:

where I hoped that if sepia does plenty that doesn't depend on w3m then
it would install but the w3m parts be omitted or be non-functional in
 emacs23 (or unless a new-enough w3m-el).

Thanks for spotting this. You are right about the core functionality...

I remember seeing that message from emacs-w3m... Could you please try if
installing w3m-el-snapshot cures the problem on your system?

In that case, a cheap fix would be to have sepia depend on
w3m-el-snapshot.

Cheers,

Jason White wrote:

I am running kernel 2.6.32 with a Btrfs root file system under KVM, x86-64
 architecture.

It was suggested on the Btrfs mailing list that I test file cloning by running
the bcp demonstration script provided as part of btrfs-progs (available from
a Btrfs Git repository). In my test, bcp was able to clone a file,
suggesting that this may be a Coreutils bug rather than a kernel issue.

Thanks for the report.
Can you rerun that via strace and send the log at least
to the bug-coreutils list (Cc'd)?

strace -o log cp --reflink testfile testfile2

Even better, can you do that using stock upstream coreutils-8.2,
assuming it still fails?

Bug#561245: Missing include files give error message but return code 0.

2009-12-15 Thread Thomas Jahns
Package: gfortran-4.4
Version: 4.4.2-5

When compiling a test program containing only an include, the compiler does not
fail when not finding the include as it should:

$ cat testinclude.f90
program testinc
  include 'notthere.inc'
  print *, 'I''m running although I shouldn''t even compile.'
end program
$ gfortran-4.4 -o testinclude testinclude.f90
testinclude.f90:2: Error: Can't open included file 'notthere.inc'
$ echo $?
0
$ ./testinclude
 I'm running although I shouldn't even compile.

The expected result of echo $? in the above case is of course 1 and no binary
should have been produced.

I tested this on amd64 with gfortran-4.4 version 4.4.2-3 and 4.4.2-5. I'm
currently back to gfortran-4.3 which shows the expected behaviour:

$ gfortran-4.3 -o testinclude testinclude.f90
Error: Can't open included file 'notthere.inc'
$ echo $?
1

The bug is particularly annoying because it breaks many autoconf-style tests.

Greetings, Thomas

iceweasel-2 and it won't open 'about:config' or any web-pages. Local

Could you try with the latest version from lenny ? (don't forget to also

Were you able to try the above suggestion ?

Bug#561225: coreutils: cp --reflink fails with Btrfs file system

I am running kernel 2.6.32 with a Btrfs root file system under KVM, x86-64
architecture.

It was suggested on the Btrfs mailing list that I test file cloning by running
the bcp demonstration script provided as part of btrfs-progs (available from
a Btrfs Git repository). In my test, bcp was able to clone a file,
suggesting that this may be a Coreutils bug rather than a kernel issue.

Note the bcp python script silently falls back to a standard copy,
so may be hiding the issue. Note you can get that behaviour with cp like:

cp --reflink=auto testfile testfile2

cheers,
Pádraig.

Bug#560541: pkgconfig file in libsvm-dev? [was: Bug#560541: libsvm-ruby: FTBFS]

 Sorry for the inconvenience.
This is because we think libsvm is only a simple library(one header and one

also we want to keep it as simple as possible and as close to upstream as
 possible.
If it causes too many inconvenience, I will consider to re-introduce it
 back.
 Thanks for your suggestion.

Ah, I see, so the pkgconfig file is a Debian-specific addition. In this
case, the upstream version of libsvm-ruby also shouldn’t depend on the
libsvm.pc file being available.

I’d just go ahead and change libsvm-ruby’s extconf.rb to set $CFLAGS and
$LDFLAGS instead of using pkgconfig. Rudi, what is your opinion as
Debian and upstream maintainer?

In Ubuntu, we've applied the attached patch to achieve the following:

   * [FTBFS] open() needs mode if O_CREAT in qfits_memory.c to be build
 in GCC 4.4 (LP: #495422)

We thought you might be interested in doing the same.

I trust you that it does not build with Ubuntu with GCC 4.4, but it does
build with GCC 4.4 in Debian. This is probably due to an Ubuntu specific
change, thus lowering the severity.

Bug#561249: g++-4.4: Spurious warning with -Wconversion (uint16_t/htons) in -O2 mode

2009-12-15 Thread Eric Estievenart
Package: g++-4.4
Version: 4.4.2-5
Severity: normal

Consider following code:
-- test.cpp -
#include arpa/inet.h
void test()
{
  uint16_t s = 123;
  // No warning expected here
  uint16_t swapped = htons( s );
}
--
g++-4.4 -Wconversion -Werror -c test.cpp  = no error
g++-4.4 -O2 -Wconversion -Werror -c test.cpp  = error!
(this also applies to g++-4.3, not 4.2)

I don't see why the optimization changes the triggering of the warning,
this is very painful because it requires either disabling -Wconversion
or -Werror, which are not acceptable for high quality code.

Cheers

Bug#560541: [DRE-maint] Bug#560541: pkgconfig file in libsvm-dev? [was: Bug#560541: libsvm-ruby: FTBFS]

2009-12-15 Thread Rudi Cilibrasi
I am planning on abandoning libsvm-ruby like I orphaned the libsvm
package. In my opinion there is little chance for the upstream
packaging to be improved in LIBSVM as I have been trying to convince
upstream to do certain improvements for years and they resisted. Now
I am reducing my investment in LIBSVM related technology to 0. Best
regards,

Rudi

 Sorry for the inconvenience.
This is because we think libsvm is only a simple library(one header and one
 library),
also we want to keep it as simple as possible and as close to upstream as

Bug#561251: mount: Bluebirds shows as /media/dvd when no disk is in reader!

2009-12-15 Thread Gary Dale

Package: mount
Version: 2.16.2-0
Severity: minor

Weird! When I remove a disk from my dvd rewriter, I get a phantom volume
labelled Bluebirds in /media/dvd. I can even open at least one of the
file - autorun.inf - and read it. There are also 3 .exe files
(bluebirds.exe, dragburn.exe and s e t u p.exe) that I haven't tried to
run.

The obvious answer would be that they exist in the /media/dvd directory.
However, that is not the case. I also can't rm them. I get an error
saying it's a read-only file system. Moreover, I can umount /media/dvd
and the files dissappear.

Unfortunately, they reappear the next time I remove a disk from the
reader. It looks like there is some kind of automount happening.
However, I can't find a bluebirds.exe file on my system, so it's not
mounting some local files. There is also nothing showing up in /etc/mtab
when Bluebirds seems to be mounted.

This has been going on for several months now. It's not a serious
problem, but it's strange and annoying to have KDE tell me that Blubirds
has been mounted every time I removed a disk from my DVD rewriter.

Bug#561176: krb5-kdc-ldap: krb5kdc leaks file descriptors

2009-12-15 Thread Sam Hartman
I've forwarded your bug upstream. I don't see any changes in upstream
svn since 1.7 that are likely to be a fix and I'm unlikely to have time
to look at this myself in the next month or so.

Harald No matter what happened exactly in my case, I see it quite

Harald good bye for your remote system.

Understood. I'm willing to take that particular risk.
The situations I'm most worried about are:

* upgrades to squeeze breaking
* People who are continually tracking a few packages from squeeze
* breaking.
