Bug#568588: mpd: MPD default config doesn't allow multiple programs to share audio output via ALSA
On 2010/02/06 01:13, Lutz Herting webmas...@phatsonic.de wrote: Are these optional lines included in the MPD config by default for a good reason? Otherwise it may be a good idea to comment them by default, since they seem to produce a serious problem for some users. The problems with enabling dmix (very bad sound quality, high CPU usage, random crashes due to ALSA bugs) usually outweigh the problems of two applications accessing the same hardware device. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#568623: nvram-wakeup: grub2 script
Package: nvram-wakeup Severity: wishlist Tags: patch hi, I prepared some code for grub2. It helps (a lot) people that need to reboot the machine to set up the RTC alarm in their motherboard. (Note that the instructions that are provided in the README.reboot file are useless for people using grub2 ). The end result is that there is a new menu voice in the grub2 boot, on bottom, that will immediately halt the machine; this menu is autoselected if the command '/usr/bin/grub-editenv /boot/grub/grubenv set nvram_halt_once=1' is run before reboot; this autoselection happens only once, that is, when you then boot the machine, the usual menu is selected (whatever usual means to you). What follows is tested in Debian squeeze: the attached file is to be saved in /etc/grub.d/50_nvram_wakeup and then 'update-grub' so that the file /boot/grub/grub.cfg is regenerated to contain the new menu voice . That's all folks. I suggest that this script be put somewhere in the nvram-wakeup package; and these instructions may go in a file such as /usr/share/doc/nvram-wakeup/README_grub2_reboot-halt --- I use the above method in my Freevo box, that now is in a PC with a mobo that needs a reboot. In /etc/freevo/local_conf.py, I set AUTOSHUTDOWN_BIOS_NEEDS_REBOOT=True AUTOSHUTDOWN_BOOT_LOADER = GRUB AUTOSHUTDOWN_GRUB_CMD = /usr/bin/grub-editenv /boot/grub/grubenv set nvram_halt_once=1 (the above assumes that the user running freevo can also edit the file /boot/grub/grubenv , so in some setups 'sudo' may be used) Bye, and thanks. a. #!/bin/sh exec tail -n +3 $0 # This is an utility for the nvram-wakeup package. nvram-wakeup # programs the alarm of the RTC (Real Time Clock, a clock in the # motherboard) so that the system will power up at a certain hour. # This menu method provides an easy way to halt the system at reboot, # once. This is needed by nvram-wakeup on certain motherboard, where, # for the changes to take effect, you need to restart (not halt) the # computer and wait until the BIOS runs (don't need to enter the BIOS # setup). menuentry Halt once (for setting alarm) { halt } if [ ${nvram_halt_once} ] ; then set nvram_halt_once= save_env nvram_halt_once set default=Halt once (for setting alarm) fi

Bug#552314: Branch instructions still broken
reopen 552314 thanks Well, whatever was changed in the latest gcc makes gcc stop complaining that a branch is out of range. However, the problem is NOT fixed. Instead of the compiler aborting, it now creates broken object code that will segfault on whatever code previously triggered this behaviour. My work-around of using '-fPIC' to slightly alter the program size still avoids the problem. https://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=mltonarch=mipsver=20100205~svn-r7410stamp=1265408802file=logas=raw https://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=mltonarch=mipselver=20100205~svn-r7410stamp=1265415414file=logas=raw -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#498438: Wrong SE Linux labels on some files under /var/lib/dpkg when installing conffile
Hi Russell! [ CCing Manoj as the original author of the dpkg SE Linux support. ] On Tue, 2009-02-17 at 13:32:26 +1100, Russell Coker wrote: If dpkg is not going to abort on an error (not sure when/why this happens) such that ohshit() doesn't abort, then we still have a problem. I experimented with modifying the ohshit() function, but that meant that dpkg-query needed to be linked against libselinux. One possible solution to that would be to have source file that contains ohshit() compiled twice, once for dpkg-query (without SE Linux support) and once with SE Linux support for dpkg. The solution to this is to install a cleanup handler, which resets the context on error. I'm attaching a patch that should fix this in all cases, but there's some things I don't understand in the current SE Linux support in dpkg, which I'd like to understand before applying it. Ok, so this is my basic understanding of how SE Linux works here (my terminology might not be accurate), please correct were appropriate. AFAICS there's at least two ways to apply a context to a file, one is to set the current file system context for new created objects (via setfscreatecon) and the other is to explicitly set the context for an existing file (via setfilecon and friends). Letting a file with the default context should not reduce the security, it might just not allow others to access it. Are the SE Linux file contexts handled like normal file attributes, that get propagated with rename(2) and only get reset on unlink(2) or with an explicit SE Linux call? Or are they handled differently and do get reset on rename(2) (I thought SE Linux was not path based)? (Or I guess in other words are they associated to the inode or the dentry?) If it's the former then yes the extra setfscreatecon() at the end of tarobject() does not seem to make sense, if it's the latter we have an additional problem, as if tarobject gets interrupted and then it tries to restore the .dpkg-tmp backup then the context will be wrong for that one as rename(2) would reset the context. regards, guillem diff --git a/src/archives.c b/src/archives.c index 77d67ce..ed2cb9e 100644 --- a/src/archives.c +++ b/src/archives.c @@ -353,6 +353,17 @@ linktosameexistingdir(const struct TarInfo *ti, const char *fname, return true; } +static void +cu_selinux_context(int argc, void **argv) +{ +#ifdef WITH_SELINUX + /* If selinux is enabled, restore the default security context. */ + if (selinux_enabled 0) +if (setfscreatecon(NULL) 0) + perror(Error restoring default security context:); +#endif /* WITH_SELINUX */ +} + int tarobject(struct TarInfo *ti) { static struct varbuf conffderefn, hardlinkfn, symlinkfn; static int fd; @@ -623,7 +634,7 @@ int tarobject(struct TarInfo *ti) { } } #endif /* WITH_SELINUX */ - + push_cleanup(cu_selinux_context, ~0, NULL, 0, 0); /* Extract whatever it is as .dpkg-new ... */ switch (ti-Type) { @@ -724,6 +735,7 @@ int tarobject(struct TarInfo *ti) { if (nifd-namenode-flags fnnf_new_conff) { debug(dbg_conffdetail,tarobject conffile extracted); nifd-namenode-flags |= fnnf_elide_other_lists; +pop_cleanup(ehflag_normaltidy); /* cu_selinux_context(). */ return 0; } @@ -792,15 +804,7 @@ int tarobject(struct TarInfo *ti) { nifd-namenode-flags |= fnnf_placed_on_disk; -#ifdef WITH_SELINUX - /* - * if selinux is enabled, restore the default security context - */ - if (selinux_enabled 0) -if(setfscreatecon(NULL) 0) - perror(Error restoring default security context:); -#endif /* WITH_SELINUX */ - + pop_cleanup(ehflag_normaltidy); /* cu_selinux_context(). */ nifd-namenode-flags |= fnnf_elide_other_lists;

Bug#568493: [Pkg-samba-maint] Bug#568493: samba: zero-day remote access exploit
Quoting Michael Gilbert (michael.s.gilb...@gmail.com): no, if you watch the video closely (also see [0]), you can see that they have read access to pretty much any file on the system (i.e. /etc/passwd) and write access to any location writable by the account they connect under. That's a bug, it should be fixed, but its impact isn't release-critical. it's your call, but i disagree. In such case, I think we should let upstream do their job and investigate/discuss the issue...which is what happened when Jeremy posted in sa...@lists.samba.org yesterday. So, imho, the bug report was a little bit premature(en?) as I think we've already confirmed that we follow upstream development closely enough. As of now, I understand that the planned fix is to disable wide links by default. In such case, I don't see much more action to have in Debian. Particularly, I'm unsure about fixing lenny. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#498438: Wrong SE Linux labels on some files under /var/lib/dpkg when installing conffile
On Sat, 6 Feb 2010, Guillem Jover guil...@debian.org wrote: Ok, so this is my basic understanding of how SE Linux works here (my terminology might not be accurate), please correct were appropriate. Letting a file with the default context should not reduce the security, it might just not allow others to access it. If you don't do anything special then the default context for the created file will be based on the context of the directory that it is created in. The default if there is no specific policy is for the type to match the type of the directory. There can be special policy saying when a process of domain X creates a file in directory type Y then use type Z. In addition a process can request that a certain context be used for creating a file, the policy can deny such a request or deny it based on the type of object being created. After a filesystem object is created it can be relabeled. Leaving a file with a default context can mean that SUID type functionality is not applied, this can mean that privileges are not dropped. Are the SE Linux file contexts handled like normal file attributes, that get propagated with rename(2) and only get reset on unlink(2) or with an explicit SE Linux call? Or are they handled differently and do get reset on rename(2) (I thought SE Linux was not path based)? rename(2) and link(2) make no difference to the label. unlink(2) doesn't change it either. Access checks are performed on open handles to unlinked files - when a process calls exec() file handles may be closed by SE Linux because the process transitioned to a new domain and is no longer granted access to the file (or isn't permitted to inherit the file handle). fsetfilecon(3) may be called on an unlinked file, as access controls in SE Linux are performed on all accesses if an unlinked file has it's context changed then processes that are accessing it may suddenly get their access denied with EPERM. (Or I guess in other words are they associated to the inode or the dentry?) It's always been the Inode. There is no other sane way to do it. If it's the former then yes the extra setfscreatecon() at the end of tarobject() does not seem to make sense, if it's the latter we have an additional problem, as if tarobject gets interrupted and then it tries to restore the .dpkg-tmp backup then the context will be wrong for that one as rename(2) would reset the context. rename(2) does not affect the context. -- russ...@coker.com.au http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Main Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. 2010/2/5 Marcos marcoscosta...@gmail.com: We're waiting more of 2 years ago. Don't (busy-)wait for it: Invest the time instead to provide a good patch for it. :) It sometimes also help (as you see now) to poke someone ~ but it is far better to do this with some more information: for example, i didn't know that this minor bug is blocking someones work! (the original bugreport only talks about private use) The priority had increased by far with this information… But enough storytelling: In this specific bug case a patch from me [0] for this and a few other Translation-file-specific things is pending for the next ABI-break which will happen sometime in the future (before squeeze). The relevant lines from the patch for this bug should be: // get the environment language code // we extract both, a long and a short code and then we will // check if we actually need both (rare) or if the short is enough string const envMsg = string(Locale == 0 ? std::setlocale(LC_MESSAGES, NULL) : Locale); size_t const lenShort = (envMsg.find('_') != string::npos) ? envMsg.find('_') : 2; size_t const lenLong = (envMsg.find('.') != string::npos) ? envMsg.find('.') : (lenShort + 3); string envLong = envMsg.substr(0,lenLong); string const envShort = envLong.substr(0,lenShort); I don't know if this really handles all cases as i don't know much about locales, but it should handle at least e.g. de, de_DE, ast_DE (bogus) and de_DE.UTF-8 and given that nobody else cared to provide a patch for it i guess this will be better than nothing. This is btw also true for the rest of the patch [0] as all my questions in the LongDesc thread [1] remained unanswered… Best regards / Mit freundlichen Grüßen, David Kalnischkies [0] http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~donkult/apt/sid/revision/1920 and ff. Bug#568619: Support for other arches
[Now with correct CC] Hi, as you can see here: https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=serna-free Serna fails on a few architectures. I’d like to see this fixed, if possible. Unless I’m mistaken, the greatest hurdle are the atomic ops defined in sfworks/common/ThreadMutex.h, which are only implemented for a few architectures. Did you consider using a library such as libatomic-ops-dev or the functions provided by qt http://doc.trolltech.com/4.3/atomic-operations.html? This would probably make the problem disappear. Note that although libatomic-ops does not implement an atomicExchange method directly, this is not a problem, as this method is not actually used in the serna code. Bug#567913: Ping mail for pending French debconf translations
Hello dear Debian maintainers, This mail is a small ping mail sent to all pending bugs where a French translation was sent, for debconf messages of various packages. These bugs are currently the only pending bugs with French translations. And, as you may know, we like having 100% statistics..:-) I know that most of them are quite recent, so don't feel too pressured. I would just like to know whether you, maintainers, have intents to do an upload of yoru package in a foreseeable future, including these minor fixes (as well as, probably, several other translation fixes for other languages). In case some of you are not DD and are waiting for a sponsored upload, please feel free to point me to the package .dsc file so that I can get it, check it and, hopefully, upload it. Many thanks in advance for your answers. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Bug#568455: [pkg-fetchmail-maint] Bug#568455: fetchmail TLS/SSL with Exchange 2007 results in Autorization failures
Hey, * Patrick Rynhart p.rynh...@massey.ac.nz [2010-02-05 02:49]: Package: fetchmail Version: Lenny Severity: important After upgrading from Debian Etch to Lenny using SSL/TLS to retreive email via POP from our Exchange 2007 environment is broken. All attempts to retrieve mail (with credentials provided in users .fetchmailrc files) result in Autorization failure The certificates used to secure our Exchange environment are issued by DigiCert Inc (I'm not sure if this is related but thought that the CA for this certificate could have been dropped between Etch and Lenny - however, if I build from source and compile against the Debian Lenny provided SSL libraries then the problem is resolved). The issue was resolved by building fetchmail 6.3.13 from source with SSL support enabled. 6.3.13 is not in lenny?! downgrading and tagged with moreinfo, using 6.3.13 SSL works fine. Bug#532494: Multibyte support in vilistextum - Status
Michal Suchanek hramr...@centrum.cz wrote: FWIW here is a patch that a) tries to detect if user is running in utf-8 locale by a heuristic similar that that used in the autoconf test setlocale(LC_CTYPE, ) only sets the current LC_CTYPE to the value of the user environment. If e.g. the user has LC_ALL=C the program will fail even if there is a utf-8 locale it could use installed on the computer. The attached patch first tries to set the locale found in the autoconf script. If that fails, it popens 'locale -a' and searches for a working utf-8 locale to use. I suggest to download a diagnostic tool from your disk's vendor site and see if it report it as failing. The problem (one of) with smart is that the semantic of the table above in not consistent between manufacturers. So i suggest you to look at the wikipedia SMART page, in particular the Known ATA S.M.A.R.T. attributes table, but take it with a grain of salt: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T. That said, from your smart table i'd do some search regarding this attributes and you disk manufacturer: * Raw_Read_Error_Rate * Start_Stop_Count * Seek_Error_Rate * Power-Off_Retract_Count * Load_Cycle_Count * Hardware_ECC_Recovered * Reallocated_Event_Count I'd look if the raw values of Raw_Read_Error_Rate and Seek_Error_Rate as used by your manufactured are worrying or not. Same thing for Hardware_ECC_Recovered. At work we have at least 4 Maxtor that show high and always increasing raw values but they work without problem since years. Also the Reallocated_Event_Count should require some investigation: why is so high but Reallocated_Sector_Ct and Current_Pending_Sector are zero? Last, looking from your smart table seems that your drive turn often in standby/sleep mode. This can be seen by the high values of Start_Stop_Count, Load_Cycle_Count and Power-Off_Retract_Count. An in your initial report you said that you used suspend/resume. I think that you should reduce these value because they are very high and all this start/stop cycle will (or already have) reduce the life of your disk. Maybe on your system there is something that force too aggressive power saving on your disk. Laptop-mode-tools

Bug#567619: xserver-xorg: After upgrading squeeze xserver stops responding
Hi I have a squeeze/sid on a laptop (sony vaio), and i had the same issue after upgrading. I performed some tests and i found that: - the problem seems to be related the 2.6.32-trunk kernel. if i boot with the 2.6.30 anything works well. - the problem affects only the laptop monitor. if i plug an external monitor to the vga port, xorg start, but it works only on the external monitor. - i tried resetting the my xorg.conf file, with a basic one generated by Xorg -config, but the result was the same. - the laptop monitor dies at all, even if i restart the x server, i have no more output on that monitor unless i reboot the whole system. Hovewer, anything works well on the external monitor. - when X dies, the network dies too if you're using network manager, so, you can't access to the system anymore. This happened to me the first time, and i had to reset the pc, then, i re-enabled the network configuration in /etc/network/interfaces (disabling de-facto network manager) following there are informations extracted from the logs.. this is part of the Xorg.0.log when i start without an external monitor: (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so (II) Module intel: vendor=X.Org Foundation compiled for 1.7.3.902, module version = 2.9.1 Module class: X.Org Video Driver ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 6.0 (II) intel: Driver for Intel Integrated Graphics Chipsets: i810, i810-dc100, i810e, i815, i830M, 845G, 852GM/855GM, 865G, 915G, E7221 (i915), 915GM, 945G, 945GM, 945GME, Pineview GM, Pineview G, 965G, G35, 965Q, 946GZ, 965GM, 965GME/GLE, G33, Q35, Q33, GM45, 4 Series, G45/G43, Q45/Q43, G41, B43, Clarkdale, Arrandale (II) Primary Device is: PCI 0...@00:02:0 drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0 drmOpenDevice: open result is 10, (OK) drmOpenByBusid: Searching for BusID pci::00:02.0 drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0 drmOpenDevice: open result is 10, (OK) drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns 10 drmOpenByBusid: drmGetBusid reports pci::00:02.0 (==) intel(0): Depth 24, (--) framebuffer bpp 32 (==) intel(0): RGB weight 888 (==) intel(0): Default visual is TrueColor (II) intel(0): Integrated Graphics Chipset: Intel(R) 945GM (--) intel(0): Chipset: 945GM (II) intel(0): Output VGA1 using monitor section Monitor0 (II) intel(0): Output LVDS1 has no monitor section (II) intel(0): found backlight control interface /sys/class/backlight/sony (II) intel(0): Output TV1 has no monitor section (II) intel(0): EDID for output VGA1 (II) intel(0): EDID for output LVDS1 (II) intel(0): EDID for output TV1 (II) intel(0): Output VGA1 disconnected (II) intel(0): Output LVDS1 disconnected- why that?? Bug#568645: setupcon requires udevadm trigger udevadm settle
tag 568645 help severity 568645 minor thank you On Sat, Feb 06, 2010 at 02:50:34PM +0100, Jordi Pujol wrote: When I change the keyboard type in the file /etc/default/keyboard, and after restarting the service, udev does not reflect the change, until that I execute udevadm trigger udevadm settle I think that the setupcon program should call udevadm after setting a new keyboard layout, Strictly speaking setupcon means 'setup console' and this doesn't suppose that udevadm has to be called. Because of this I am lowering the severity to 'minor'. On the other hand I agree that this can be useful. The reason I am not going to fix this is that I am not well acquanted with the udev/hal system. I understand that the patch to fix the bug is very simple but sometimes to maintain a one-line code and to fix all problems that could arise in the future requires more than simply understanding what this one-line command does. There is no way back - if this functionality is added to setupcon the users will expect it so it would be impossible to revert the change. Correspondingly I am adding a 'help' tag to this bug and leaving for some other developer to fix it.
