Bug#569774: gparted cannot resize the PSION format CF cards (fat16 32). please add it
Package: gparted Version: 0.5.0-1 Severity: important Hello, Gparted lacks of power :) fdisk can recognize the type of the partition: fat16 32 and the gparted says unrecognized. It is important that gparted becomes better and more than a just simply basic or tiny version of partition magic or other advanced windows partition managers, . ... Gparted is already a good release now, and becomes more mature. It would be great to work on those img psion files, if you'd like I can submit you the img from dd. Cheers !! Bug#569775: ntp should not use /etc/ntp.conf.dhcp when dhclient don't receive ntp server
Package: ntp Version: 1:4.2.4p8+dfsg-1 I configured dhclient to use ntp servers and it worked fine. Then I moved to another dhcp server that don't send ntp server. But /etc/ntp.conf.dhcp file have stayed and it is wrongly used by ntp. (The previously sent ntp server was 192.168.0.1 - the DHCP/gateway server itself. In the new environment there's no NTP server at this address and ntp suddenly and quietly stopped synchronizing time.) There should be some check if /etc/ntp.conf.dhcp is generated by current dhclient session. If it's left-over from previous session, it should not be used. AFAIUI, it will miss the squeeze freeze. and lacks e.g. the AMR support that is now possible with libraries already in Debian. that's already possible with ffmpeg 0.5 that we ship with squeeze. The problem with that is the license: linking against opencore will render the resulting libavcodec library as GPLv3. Until now, noone has made an analysis on the impact of that change. It would be great to see an updated ffmpeg in Debian. in experimental we'll have something newer soon (given that it will ever pass NEW, cf. mplayer package in NEW but that that's another story.), I'm currently busy with the ffmpeg 0.5.1 release, which is what we will go for with squeeze. -- Gruesse/greetings, Reinhard Tartler, KeyID 945348A4 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#569779: ITP: ipwatchd -- IP conflict detection tool
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist IPwatchD is a simple daemon that analyses all incoming ARP packets in order to detect IP conflicts on Linux. Bug#493646: gitk: Show which patches from other branch were merged.
Kurt Roeckx wrote: On Sat, Feb 13, 2010 at 03:02:46PM -0600, Jonathan Nieder wrote: Then while on the stable branch you use 'git cherry-pick H'. This produces a history like so: E -- F -- G --- H --- I --- ... [devel] / A -- B -- C -- D --- H' [stable] where H' introduces the same change as H did. Right, so it's called cherry picking. I guess I'm still to used on how CVS works where this is just a merge. And the difference with CVS seems to be that CVS doesn't know anymore that it came from the devel branch after that. I don’t know CVS, but if I understand you correctly then git is like CVS in this respect (except for the name for the operation). Git doesn’t know any more that H' came from the devel branch. Humans might be able to tell from the commit message, and with effort git can figure it out by comparing patches, but that information is not explicitly stored anywhere. A better example might be that both F and H where merged to the stable branch, and that H fixes a bug introduced in G. I guess what I want to be able to see is each patch as applied to the branch. If I'm currently at H', I want to see that F' is the previous change in that branch. But I think it's showing me only H now, and that G is the previous patch. The same goes for what is the next patch obviously. I don’t understand. Part of my confusion is that what you are talking about is creating history, but gitk is mostly a tool for viewing history. So I am trying to imagine what series of commands created the history you are talking about and failing. The setup is presumably as before: test_commit() { : $1 git add $1 git commit -m $1 git tag $1 } git init test-repo cd test-repo test_commit A git checkout -b devel for i in E F G H I J; do test_commit $i; done git checkout -b stable A for i in B C D; do test_commit $i; done I am on the stable branch, and I cherry-pick the bug fix F: git cherry-pick -x F Next I want to cherry-pick H. Why? H is a bug fix for G, so I guess I wanted G as well. git cherry-pick -x G git cherry-pick -x H And at this point, gitk and git log will show me a series of commits with subjects H, G, F, D, C, B, A, although the commits labelled H, G, and F on this branch have different commit IDs than the commits tagged H, G, and F, which were made on the devel branch. I guess this is where your wish comes in: maybe I wanted to cherry-pick the changes from G and H with a single commit? Let me back out the last two changes: git reset --hard HEAD^^ Now I apply the changes from G and H without making a commit: git cherry-pick --no-commit G git cherry-pick --no-commit H and make a commit git commit being sure to write a message that describes the combined change. Throughout, I might have a window open from running gitk --all# or just gitk, or gitk devel, or whatever and hit Ctrl+F5 after each command to see its effect in gitk. I think there used to be a way to only see the current branch and not all branches that got merged in it? The thing is, F' and H' are not any different from the other commits in the stable branch. But suppose you want to see just those commits on the stable branch that do not have anything analogous in devel. (I have often wanted something like this.) The best way I know to do this is kind of clunky: gitk --left-right --cherry-pick devel...stable This will show the commits in devel but not in stable with a left- pointing marker and those stable but not in devel with a right- pointing marker. Note: a commit like the combined G+H described above would show up as a commit in stable but not in devel. Maybe it should atleast show the branch name for each parent of a commit? This sounds like a CVS-ism. Commits aren’t attached to any particular branch in git. Bug#554021: Single to double click on song selection
Hi, I have also found this behaviour an issue. I have found that by disabling KDE single click to open files/folders sorts this out. I am not running (full) KDE itself. The application runs on a headless remote server, (display is done remotely to whichever desktop I use), so I adjusted the KDE configuration file directly: Edit ~/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals add/edit section: [KDE] SingleClick=false I am not sure, but maybe it can be possible to disable it for just this one application. As I don't need that, the above works fine for me.

Bug#569784: debootstrap: cannot build a clean Lenny chroot anymore
Package: debootstrap Version: 1.0.10lenny1 Severity: important -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Today, while trying to build a clean Lenny chroot using pbuilder, I noticed that debootstrap complained of failure to configure packages, mentioning that it will try 5 times before completely giving up. Instead, what happens is that the host becomes unresponsive and has to be force- rebooted (ACPI reset button). So, this bug is two-fold: 1) no longer able to build a Lenny chroot (I tried with and without adding the security updates repository, in /etc/pbuilderrc - fails in both cases). 2) failure to configure the base system and trying 5 more times pulls an insane amount of system resources that brings the build host to its knees. While I realize that Squeeze is getting closer to a release, it's still necessary to be able to create Lenny chroots e.g. to build backports and security releases, so I can only hope that the Debian-boot team can fix this. Cheers! Bug#569785: iceweasel: Please don't use homepage_override / welcome page; user not necessarily admin/developer
Package: iceweasel Version: 3.5.6-2 Severity: important From the 3.5.6-2 changelog: * debian/branding/Makefile.in, debian/branding/firefox-branding.js: Use http://mozilla.debian.net pages for homepage_override and welcome. *Please* don't do this. I administrate systems for non-technical users. I try to make these systems work as transparently as possible, even when I need to upgrade them. Firefox upstream noisily reminds the user to update itself and its addons. I very much like(d) that Iceweasel does not do this, and neither do addons installed as Debian packages. I can update Debian packages any time a user doesn't have Iceweasel running, and they won't even notice. The new homepage_override and welcome page breaks this use case, and throws the user to an unfamiliar page rather than their usual homepage and search box. While I realize that you'd like to get technically inclined users to contribute, the page you've pointed at seems entirely unhelpful for users who just want their system to work. Furthermore, consider that almost any package would like to make the same call for help, and then consider what would happen if any significant fraction of the apps on a user's desktop nagged the user when run after an upgrade. Not a pleasant thought, and certainly not usable. And, even as a technical user, I find the page more annoying than helpful. At least the upstream equivalents point the user at useful addons, new features, and so on. - Josh Triplett -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#569786: vlogger: [PATCH] Add option to write out access.logs without chopping the vhost off the beginning
Package: vlogger Version: 1.3-3 Severity: wishlist I found that using vlogger with programs such as awstats that expect logs to be in an unaltered combined log format doesn't work. awstats for example will simply die on any line that doesn't include a host. It's a very small patch and with it vlogger won't munge log lines at all before writing them to subdirectories as it does normally. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) Ok, I can reproduce this. I'll see if it's already fixed/reported upstream, otherwise I'll investigate this myself. Kindly, David -- . ''`. Bug#569790: Remove selected tracks option (with patch)
Package: minirok Version: 2.1 Severity: wishlist Hi, Firstly, thank you very much for this player. Simplistic, easy to use, not resource intensive, and uses the file system (no library) - everything I wanted well it seems nearly. The first thing my biggest user (ie my wife) requested was the ability to be able to remove selected tracks from the playlist. The crop feature does do that, but you have to select all the tracks you want to keep (so it works inverse to a simple 'remove this track' option) I thus added a new menu option, which removes the selected track(s) Regards Lucas van Staden www.dedmeet.com (linux) www.proxiblue.com.au (consumer electronics) Below is the patch: u...@pygmy:/usr/share/minirok/minirok$ diff -c playlist.py_ori playlist.py *** playlist.py_ori 2010-02-14 18:03:35.128477864 +0800 --- playlist.py 2010-02-14 18:11:14.214724875 +0800 *** *** 1116,1126 --- 1116,1128 if len(selected_indexes) == 1: enqueue_action = menu.addAction('Enqueue track') + remove_action = menu.addAction('Remove track') if index.data(Playlist.RoleQueuePosition).toInt()[0] 0: enqueue_action.setCheckable(True) enqueue_action.setChecked(True) else: enqueue_action = menu.addAction('Enqueue/Dequeue tracks') + remove_action = menu.addAction('Remove selected tracks') stop_after_action = menu.addAction('Stop playing after this track') *** *** 1140,1145 --- 1142,1150 self.model().toggle_stop_after(index) elif selected_action == crop_action: self.model().removeItemsCmd(self.unselectedIndexes()) + elif selected_action == remove_action: + self.model().removeItemsCmd(selected_indexes) + else: return QtGui.QTreeView.mousePressEvent(self, event)

Bug#569791: RM: several Ada packages from testing on mips only (RoM)
Package: ftp.debian.org Severity: normal A compiler bug which is too difficult for anyone to investigate (unavailabilily of hardware being the biggest hurdle), I have decided to drop support for mips from select packages that I maintain. All packages are now ready to transition to testing but they are blocked because testing still supports mips. Therefore, please remove the following packages from testing on mips only (not mipsel): gnat-gps (from 4.3~2008.08.09) libaws-bin, libaws-dbg, libaws-doc (from 2.5-3) Hopefully this will allow all remaining Ada packages to reach testing (on the other architectures, that is) well in time for the freeze of Squeeze. Bug#569794: fetchmail: please add possibility to keep old sleeping/awakened logging behaviour
Package: fetchmail Version: 6.3.13-2 Severity: wishlist -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I miss the old syslog behaviour with the sleeping / awakened at messages. The only possibility to regain these messages is to add option --verbose, but this logs too much into syslog (for me about 50 lines instead of the expected 2). I know that this behaviour change is a intended one [1]/[2], and I don't care about the change of the *default* behaviour, but I would really love a possibility to keep the old behaviour that I'm used to and that I consider reasonable. The only patches that are relevant for stable are 0005-mount.cifs-take-extra-care-that-mountpoint-isn-t-cha.patch and 0006-mount.cifs-check-for-invalid-characters-in-device-na.patch, corresponding to CVE-2009-3297 and CVE-2010-0547 respectively. Bug#569539: The culprit *is* xterm source, misc.c:817
Looking at how xkbbell achieves the beep I found it does: (in xkbutils/xkbbell.c) 204 elseok= XkbBell(dpy, win, volume, nameAtom); Now, xterm has this code: 811 void 812 xtermBell(XtermWidget xw, int which, int percent) 813 { 814 TScreen *screen = TScreenOf(xw); 815 #if defined(HAVE_XKB_BELL_EXT) 816 Atom tony = AtomBell(xw, which); 817 if (tony != None) { 818 XkbBell(screen-display, VShellWindow, percent, tony); 819 } else 820 #endif 821 XBell(screen-display, percent); 822 } On checking, HAVE_XKB_BELL_EXT is indeed set. However AtomBell() is returning 'None'. But wait a moment, looking back at xkbbell it defaults this to 'None' as well: 43 static Atom nameAtom = None; and the only way that changes is if it passes this test: 198 if (bellName!=NULL) 199 nameAtom = XInternAtom(dpy,bellName,0); which it doesn't unless you specify a bell with 'xkbbell bellname'. So with just 'xkbbell' working this means that passing a nameAtom of 'None' to XkbBell() is perfectly fine, so why is xterm deciding it's a bad thing ? Thus just commenting out lines 817 and 819 causes xterm beeping to start working again. Obviously you'd actually want to make it something more like: 811 void 812 xtermBell(XtermWidget xw, int which, int percent) 813 { 814 TScreen *screen = TScreenOf(xw); 815 #if defined(HAVE_XKB_BELL_EXT) 816 Atom tony = AtomBell(xw, which); 817 XkbBell(screen-display, VShellWindow, percent, tony); 818 #else 819 XBell(screen-display, percent); 820 #endif 821 } So that you only issue one of XkbBell() or XBell(). Note AtomBell() always sets its return value to a default of 'None', so there shouldn't be a need for a NULL pointer check or anysuch there. I may be wrong about not wanting to issue both, X11 experts can check that. XkbBell(3) has nothing to say about the Atom name 'None' being special, but it does say it can be NULL (but not what happens if it is). It does also state: If a compatible keyboard extension isn't present in the X server, XkbBell calls XBell with the specified display and percent, and returns False. Otherwise, XkbBell calls XkbDeviceBell with the specified disâ play, window, percent, and name, a device_spec of XkbUseCoreKbd, a bell_class of XkbDfltXIClass, and a bell_id of XkbDfltXIId, and returns True. which seems to mean that my change as above to not try both XkbBell() and XBell() is correct, as the former will fall back to the latter if needs be anyway. -- - Athanasius = Athanasius(at)miggy.org / http://www.miggy.org/ Finger athan(at)fysh.org for PGP key And it's me who is my enemy. Package: linux-image-2.6.32-2-sparc64-smp Version: 2.6.32-8 Severity: serious On my sid sparc box I can reproducibly cause a shell getting in a state where the kernel soft-locks and one cpu is only occupied py this process. kill -KILL does not work, sync does not work, restarting the computer needs reboot -n -f and so on. I think this is due to some misalignment of signal stacks, as described in http://marc.info/?l=linux-sparcm=126576299426902w=2 (at least the hanging cpu hangs in the area this patch touches and the process seems to be hanging in some fault handler occouring in a fault handler occouring in some signal stuff as far as I can tell, my sparc assembler skills are quite limited). Bug#569799: RM: knetworkmanager -- ROM; dead upstream, no longer works with network-manager 0.8
Package: ftp.debian.org Severity: normal knetworkmanager (binary package network-manager-kde, source package knetworkmanager) is a GUI frontend for network-manager. The current version in unstable/testing is 1:0.7~~svn941706-2. It is based on KDE3 and no longer maintained upstream. With the upload of network-manager 0.7.999 (0.8~rc3), the package stopped working [1]. A replacement for KDE4 is available. It's source package name is plasma-widget-networkmanagment and it *also* builds the binary package network-manager-kde. Currently available from experimental (soon to be uploaded to unstable) and at version 0.1~svn1075616-1. Please remove the old KDE3 version of knetworkmanager from the archive. As plasma-widget-networkmanagement also builds a binary package named network-manager-kde, I'm not sure if that has any influence on the removal of the old knetworkmanager package. If so, please take that into account. Bug#569721: Hard-coded line numbers in generated kernel patches break kernelconfiguration
Hi! M. Vefa Bicakci wrote: As you can see, the line number 40 is hard-coded to the patch. Unfortunately, this ends up putting the Xenomai related options right in the middle of config X86 options, which causes the errors shown above. Thanks for the report and for pointing this out! I know the following request should be separate wishlist bug, but can you please use a patch system like quilt or something similar so it would be easy to see what changes you made to the original Xenomai source code without having to dig through the diff.gz file? Bug#556378: Debian bug #556378 and without-dlsym
On 2010-01-10 13:16 +0100, Craig Small wrote: Hello, I'm part of the group taking over the maintenance of ncurses packages within Debian. I noticed your comments at http://bugs.debian.org/556378 about the static libraries and configure flags. Currently we build the libraries using --with-shared which, I believe, makes both the static and shared libraries. However to use --without-dlsym ONLY on static library build we would have the split the two, is that right? Something like ./configure --with-shared --without-normal ..etc... make and install somewhere (makes shared libraries with dlsym) ./configure --without-dlsym ...etc.. make and install somewhere (makes static libraries without dlsym) Is this what you meant by this flag? It will mean doubling the number of builds but there are a fair few already. It is not quite that bad as doubling the number of builds since some of them are already done with --without-gpm. Bug#569793: depends on a unavailable package, etcinsvk
[Holger Levsen] the priority of #557074 (etcinsvk uses svk, scheduled for removal) has been raised to serious, as svk has been removed from unstable today, thus making debian-edu-config uninstable in sid (as it depends on etcinsvk), thus making d-e-c seriously buggy. As far as I know, svk was removed from unstable several weeks ago, and the new etcinsvk propagated to squeeze after this because svk was still in squeeze. Do you mean that it was removed from testing today? Anyway, unless someone show up to maintain svk, we have only two choices: - Drop etcinsvk, find and adjust replacement to behave more like etcinsvk (etckeeper have been mentioned). This will give all existing installations a problem in the future, as their etcinsvk revision history is lost. - Adjust etcinsvk to support alternative to svk, and implement migration code to move the history from svk to this alternative. More work, and better for the sysadmins with etcinsvk active. When it comes to debian-edu-config, I believe the dependency can be dropped without any bad happening, both in Lenny and Squeeze. I believe there is code in debian-edu-install to install etcinsvk independent of this dependency, and the code in debian-edu-config to use etcinsvk should be protected by tests to check if it is present before using it, so the package should also work without it. If not all places are protected like this, we need to add them. Bug#569808: empathy does not respect settings of remote desktop prefernces in gnome
Package: empathy Version: 2.28.2-3 Severity: grave Tags: security Justification: user security hole Hello, I would like to use the feature of remote desktop sharing via the empathy. However, allowing this via empathy enables the user on the other side to control my mouse and keyboard. This despite the fact that under the gnome-settings I only chose to enable only the desktop for viewing. Ofcourse, I could share my desktop through gnome, and then initiate the empathty call, but then what's the point of having this feature in empathy, if it does not respect my preferences ? I file this as a security issue, because I think users on the other side should not have access to my desktop unless I enabled it specifically. If I had a sudo session in the last moments before sharing the desktop, it means that they inherit my root permission and can cause damage, intentionally or not. If you don't think it's a security issue, feel free downgrading this but. Also, I'm almost sure this is GNOME issue, and not Debian, but I prefer reporting it here. Bug#418642: Cannot reproduce unusability of smart
severity 418642 normal thanks Hi, I have tried to reproduce the original issue. With smartpm installed but rpm not, current smartpm is perfectly usable for Debian channels. I have not found an ordering of installing smart and installing/removing rpm that triggers such a bug. Hence I think that at least smart is not completely unusable and the serious severity can be downgraded. I dare not say that there is not a situation with a specific combination of channels and packages installed that would trigger a bug, so I'm not closing it outright, but at least I haven't been able to find that situation. Perhaps the original submitter can inform us if he still experiences the problem? cheers, Thijs -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
