No, -i has an optional argument which is the backup file suffix, just
like -en != -e -n.

Bug#574917: ITP: libllamaxml1 -- C++ XML pull parser

2010-03-21 Thread Kaido Kert
Package: wnpp

Owner: Kaido Kert

* Package name: libllamaxml1
  Version : 1.0.1
Upstream Author : Stuart A. Malone
* URL : http://llamaxml.berlios.de/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C++
Description : LlamaXML is a C++ XML parsing and formatting library that
is small enough to be used on handheld devices like PDAs and smartphones, while
still supporting larger desktop and server systems. The library currently runs
on Palm OS Garnet, Palm OS Cobalt, Windows Mobile, Windows and Mac OS X, and is
easy to port to new platforms. The entire library compiles to only 45 KB of
code under Codewarrior for Palm OS, and can be even smaller if only some of its
features are used. The library is also frugal with runtime memory, using a
single-pass streaming algorithm that only stores the current parsing stack in
memory, allowing very large XML documents to be parsed with very little
overhead.

Bug#574916: fglrx-driver: fglrx(4x) references outdated documentation

2010-03-21 Thread Geoff Simmons
Package: fglrx-driver
Version: 1:10-3~prerelease-1
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

Hi,

I noticed a minor issue with respect to referenced documentation. From
the fglrx-driver changelog (1:10-3~prerelease-1):

  * Add link to ATI FAQ for supported hardware in fglrx manpage (too hard to
keep up to date otherwise).

Understandable. After following the link[1], there is this statement:

The ATI Proprietary Linux driver currently supports Radeon 8500 and
later AGP or PCI Express graphics products, as well as ATI FireGL 8700
  and later products.

However, the Radeon 8500 is R200-based (the FireGL 8700 uses Radeon 8500
as its core). Anything prior to the R600 series is unsupported since
fglrx-driver 1:9-4-1. So AMD's own document on the subject is outdated.

If upstream are unwilling to correct the ATI Proprietary Linux Driver
FAQ, please consider clarifying the SUPPORTED HARDWARE section in the
fglrx manpage instead. Attached are patches for both.

Geoff

I'm aware of this fact. Our codebase works just fine when compiled
against X server core up until 1.6, but not anymore since X server
1.7. However, the X core developers haven't answered my question as to
what might have changed in the X server that would explain this sudden
breakage, so I'm at loss as far as debugging this.

Bug#574915: gnupg: gpg misinterprets under-implemented keyservers as empty, misreports search results to users

2010-03-21 Thread Daniel Kahn Gillmor
Package: gnupg
Version: 1.4.10-2
Severity: normal

keyring.debian.org currently offers a limited subset of HKP, covering
only gpg's --send and --recv options. --search is not implemented, as
is apparent from the HTTP 406 return code and message returned from
searches like the following:

http://keyring.debian.org/pks/lookup?op=index&options=mr&search=dkg&exact=on

(HTTP 406 means "Not Acceptable", which itself seems like it might be
slightly misapplied [0]).

However, gpg seems to think that the search was simply empty, rather
than a particular failure:

0 d...@pip:~$ gpg --keyserver keyring.debian.org --search dkg
gpg: searching for "dkg" from hkp server keyring.debian.org
gpg: key "dkg" not found on keyserver
0 d...@pip:~$

when in fact, there is a key "dkg" on the keyserver; it's just the
search query that isn't implemented.

While implementing this functionality on keyring.debian.org would be
nice, it'd also be nice to have gpg report this as an error state to
the user so they don't get confused and think the keyserver simply
doesn't hold a matching key.

Bug#573837: lintian: [checks/manpages] [PATCH] improved checks/manpages.desc::manpage-has-bad-whatis-entry

The additional explanation of the syntax restrictions, particularly the
part about spaces, is good. I reworded it a bit and gave an example. The
mention of TH I left out, since TH doesn't have anything to do with this
tag; so far as I can tell, lexgrog doesn't care what you put in the TH
header.

> - Use parentheses to refer to program names: whatis(1). Tools,

This part I've not applied. Lintian tag descriptions are not manual
pages, and adding manpage sections after every mentioned tool just strikes
me as visual clutter. (Even in manpages, I think this convention is
overused.) Lintian already has an explicit way of adding references to
man pages where appropriate, which was already used for lexgrog(1) (which
is where the details for this particular tag are).

The cross-compilation process is a bit more complicated than that. In
particular, the ocamlopt compiler emits temporary assembly files that are
compiled later by the compiler. When switching to gcc instead of gcc -m32, I
get a lot of messages like this:

/tmp/camlasmf9e413.s: Assembler messages:

/tmp/camlasmf9e413.s:431: Warning: value 0x3cb0 truncated to 0x0

/tmp/camlasmf9e413.s:461: Warning: value 0x7ff0 truncated to 0x0

Hence, I assume it is not safe to compile it using (64 bits) gcc.

However, I'm open to any suggestion, in particular when tested and if possible
with a patch...

Bug#534964: Including memory cgroup support disabled by default

We don't want memory cgroup support to be enabled by default, due to the
run-time overhead. Below is a patch that allows the code to be included
but disabled by default. However, memory cgroup support still has some
run-time cost when included but disabled, which we need to evaluate
before making this change.

Description: dockable clock applet for various window managers
Lal is a clock for the dock. Nothing more, nothing less. It is a very
simple tool especially helpful for those that are using openbox. It
can use various colors, sizes, formats, etc. It can accept any POSIX
 date format.

Note: Version 1.1 is currently sitting in the upload queue. I am hoping
to finish version 2.0 within a few months that will come with many new
features such as a calendar. One goal of the new version will be to check
through the code to see if this tiny file can be stripped down at all to
make it even more light weight.
I'm working with the upstream authors to bring this release which is why
I refer to anticipated features for this version.

Description: The Cairo 2D vector graphics library
 Cairo is a multi-platform library providing anti-aliased vector-based rendering
for multiple target backends. Paths consist of line segments and cubic splines
and can be rendered at any width with various join and cap styles. All colors
may be specified with optional translucence (opacity/alpha) and combined using
the extended Porter/Duff compositing algebra as found in the X Render
 Extension.

Cairo exports a stateful rendering API similar in spirit to the path
construction, text, and painting operators of PostScript, (with the significant
addition of translucence in the imaging model). When complete, the API is
intended to support the complete imaging model of PDF 1.4.

This surely is not a default behaviour and I have never this. I doubt this
could have anything to do with KDE. Can you still confirm this bug with the

Bug#574906: libvirt: Please rebuild against parted 2.2

2010-03-21 Thread Colin Watson
Package: libvirt
Version: 0.7.7-3
Severity: important

As previously announced
(http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2010/03/msg00121.html), we are
transitioning to parted 2.2, and this is on its way into unstable now.
Please rebuild your package against it. This should just be a matter of
replacing your build-dependency on libparted1.8-dev with a
build-dependency on libparted0-dev (>= 2.2).

Thanks,

Bug#574667: [PATCH] Properly deal with inodes excluded from incremental dump

2010-03-21 Thread Frédéric Brière
Here's my best effort at squashing this bug. It works fine for my
series of backups and appears to produce the appropriate results.
Still, caveat emptor. :)

A few comments about this patch:

  - Setting TMPNAME and calling deleteino() is not strictly necessary,
and is merely done for optimization.

  - The two blocks in findunreflinks() could probably be merged -- I
refrained to keep the patch less intrusive.

  - I couldn't think of insightful comments to include in the patch,
especially after 5 or 6 tab stops. Sucks, though, as this is one of
the best-commented programs I've seen. I tried my best to document
the patch itself, so all would not be lost.

Subject: [PATCH] Properly deal with inodes excluded from incremental dump

Files which are excluded from a dump (via -e or the nodump attribute)
still have their inode marked as in-use in the dump header. This can
cause problems when restoring from an incremental dump, if that inode is
currently assigned in the symtable:

  - If assigned to a file that is being overwritten by another inode,
the old entry will be renamed away, but never reclaimed, thus
leaving the TMPNAME flag turned on and preventing its removal.

  - If assigned to a directory, that directory will not be removed by
removeoldleaves(), and its entry will linger on in its parent's
e_entries.

- If its parent is being updated, removeleaf() will wrongly be
called on the entry. The above comment about TMPNAME also
  applies.

- If its parent is being deleted, this will fail due to the entry's
  presence.

Bug#574695: wink: segmentation fault error

2010-03-21 Thread Lubos Rendek
UPDATE:

Almost solved. This problem occurs when user wish to stop editing a label
text. In order to resume to wink main interface user needs to click on the
image white space.

This text label editing exercise is not very intuitive and could be
improved by letting user to click on the thumbnails below to resume to to
winks main interface.

However this bug is more a design problem and its importance should be
reduces or marked as solved as it does not affect wink's main
functionality.

That's funny, I have never seen this. Can you still reproduce this with the

This also contains unit tests and a small bugfix for the previous

on the cmdline to psql instead of just the template database name.

Do you mean that this exact line is printed to the screen? This is very
strange!

Yes, boot log attached.
It is a generated by copy-paste with gpm, since these messages are not
logged on the disk.
I count 6 "options libata ignore_hpa=1" string, but in the flash between
grub and the switch to graphic mode due to KMS, i have seen about three
other messages.

And i also see one of these when i do "ifup ppp0".
I have done some search on the network scripts but i haven't found who
trigger that message.

Oh thanks for it, but you were just 2 minutes too late :/
I am already uploading 10-3~prerelease..

10-3~prerelease isn't working for me. it causes segmentation fault in X.
I'm stuck with the experimental xserver-xorg-video-radeon for now
(radeonhd also working but with no acceleration) as I've updated X to 7.5.

Bug#515307: ITP: gvpe

2010-03-21 Thread Jonathan Wiltshire
Since gvpe really needs a maintainer who uses it regularly, and my
organisation is moving away from (so I shan't be doing) I'm not really in a
position to give it enough care.

I still think gvpe would be a useful package to have in Debian, since it
builds a fully meshed network instead of a traditional centralised VPN. I
will keep my work handy if another developer would like to pick it up
(there are some license problems to solve, amongst other things).

Bug#574898: pgf: Produces output indigestible by gs

2010-03-21 Thread Jö Fahlke
Package: pgf
Version: 2.00-1
Severity: normal

[ Sorry for the vague subject, if you can think of a better one, please ]
[ change it... ]

I had a strage error of dvipdf refusing to work and cooked it down to this:
==
\documentclass{article}

\usepackage{tikz}

\begin{document}

\begin{tikzpicture}
  \coordinate (dune) at (5, 0);
  \node (gmshreader) at (0, 0) {gmsh};

  \draw[shading=axis]
(gmshreader.east) -- (dune);
\end{tikzpicture}

\end{document}
==

My primary test was creating a .pdf file with the help of latex and dvipdf.
With the code above, dvipdf would fail (see below for error message).
Removing "[shading=axis]" would make it work.

I also tried pdflatex and viewing the .pdf with evince. That worked fine,
however evince gave some "matrix not invertible" warnings, which suggests a
division by zero somewhere (the gs error messages might suggest that as well,
but sadly I don't speak a single word of postscript). The test case tries to
vertically shade a path consisting of a horizontal line, I can imagine that
can lead to a division by zero.

OK, so this is probably an error by the author of the document above, but a
good error message would really be nice, if that is possible. Preferably at
the time latex/pdflatex is run.

Thanks,
Jö.

Here are several things I tried and their results:

When I run that through "latex test.tex" I get test.dvi with no problem.

Bug#551780: Fix by reading from avahi-browse with a timeout

2010-03-21 Thread Crestez Dan Leonard
I attached a possible fix for this. It will timeout if avahi-browse
doesn't respond in 250 miliseconds. This seems reasonable; if the answer
takes longer than that it's not useful for interactive use. This will
still work for people who care about avahi.

This seems more like a big in avahi or avahi's configuration in debian,
but I don't really care about why avahi takes a long time to answer. I
believe it's reasonable for bash-completion to include workarounds for
bugs in other programs. It's useful for the shell to work reliably even
if the system is otherwise misconfigured.

It seems that bash-completion debian bug mail also goes to the
bash-completion-devel upstream list. Patch is against latest upstream,
any feedback is welcome.

I had to mangle +o posix to get tests to pass. I don't know why the test
suite puts the shell into posix mode anyway.

Hi,
I'm sorry , I cannot understand what you wrote.
Might you write in English, please?

I can guess that there is an issue about libglib1.2 with gocr-gtk
0.41-1.
gocr-gtk is not present anymore in gocr upstream and consequently has
been removed from the Debian package.

It seems that you are using packages from etch (oldstable), in which
gocr-gtk was still present; you installed gocr 0.46 from testing in
which gocr-gtk is not present anymore.

If you need a GUI to use gocr, please refer to gocr-tk, which is still
present in current upstream package.

Please confirm if this is the problem you're encountering.

thanks,
C.

Bug#574896: libgtk2.0-0: text entries send spurious notify::text with "" on destroy

2010-03-21 Thread Yves-Alexis Perez
Package: libgtk2.0-0
Version: 2.18.9-1
Severity: important

Hey,

recent GTK+ upload changed a behavior in text entries when destroying
which breaks some software, especially xfce4-terminal.

I've opened various bugs on Xfce and GNOME bugzillas:

http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6331
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=613489

and it seems that in the end it's related to a change in GTK+ which has
a patch at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=613489 (it has
been applied to master).

It'd be nice if you could include the patch in debian since it really
makes xfce4-terminal unusable everytime one goes to the preferences
window.

(I'm not sure it deserves an RC bug but it still “break other software”,
though not completely unrelated :)

Cheers, and thanks for your time,

After checking the output with the above patch again more closely I've
seen that the error is still present, just that it no longer leads to a
fatal error with the patch. I need to examine this further and have
disapproved the above revision until then.

I thus recommend to remove the kpowersave suggests.

I am guessing that perhaps values beyond the brink of Unix Time in 2038
aren't dealt with, causing false expiration detection and system
lockouts looping etc. at some truncated value of some time value.

Ok, the simplified version has been committed in dbb536a64.

Hello,

Can you please try the latest version,
libwind0-heimdal_1.4.0~git20100221.dfsg.2-3, which I uploaded
yesterday.

It removes a back port to the error handling I was forced to apply due
to libcomerr not having the required function.

Then again, the version in testing had exactly the same patch, so will
be surprised if it helps, but just in case...

Thanks

Bug#551926: cannot be installed together with pip or pip-python

2010-03-21 Thread Ian Bicking
I won't rename pip upstream. The Perl pip package didn't show any
liveliness, was not packaged, and both our commands are superseded by
another old command line tool called pip for dealing with pipes -- that
project isn't causing any naming problems despite having had a better online
presence than pip (though it appears by now that the presence of Perl's pip
has come up slightly to reverse that). No one asked or even suggested I
rename pip when I announced the name, someone merely noted that a tool with
the same name existed.

Personally I think virtualenv is more reasonable to package anyway, and it
includes pip in a localized way that avoids name clashes.

Bug#574729: apt: essential is not a priority. apt-get should not install essential packages by default

And in which way apt should know that you no longer have a package from
e.g. stable which requires the functionality of package X which is in testing
no longer essential? The closest match is that if you removed the sources
for stable you have fully upgraded to testing.

Consider a case in which an essential flag is dropped without an replacement -
e.g. then perl-base is no longer required to be essential. If you have multiple
sources you most likely have also packages from multiple releases -
so some older packages maybe depend implicitly on perl-base,
you can't tell me which packages does this, can you?
(And yes, i still think it is silly that users want to remove obsolete packages
but don't want to remove obsolete sources list entries…)

> This is the reason policy says that an essential package should not be
> removed easily but it does not say that all essential packages should
> be installed automatically.
I would be really interested in the difference. If you haven't removed it,
why apt wants to reinstall it then?

dpkg also allows you to install a package and ignore its dependencies,
so apt shouldn't try to fix this? The job of APT is to prevent the user from
dependency hell, essentials are here to prevent the archive from too many
dependencies. If APT would stop taking care of dependencies - and
essentials are the hardest form of dependencies (They are always installed,
will never be removed and work even in unpack state.) - the sole idea
behind APT is destroyed…

What you could try with your package is Provide+Conflict+Replaces the
essential package - apt will not come up with a solution to this "problem"
itself as we will have a (short) time frame in the transition in which no
package is installed providing the functionality so you still have to go over
dpkg force flags, but at least in theory apt should notice with the provides
that a package with this functionality is installed after that.
Another thing you can try is installing a dummy package with this name
and an exorbitant high version number…

… or you can wait until the next release. It should include a way to
disable essentials completely or limit them to installed packages. [0]
I think both modes are silly in general but i needed them sometimes
for debugging multiarch and i guess they will find their users -
i just hope these users are then clever enough to do the job
i would never ever want to do again on my own - i have a package
manager for dependency solving…

Best regards / Mit freundlichen Grüßen,

David Kalnischkies

P.S.: After all, we are talking here about ~25 packages -- i accept bets now
then the bugcount talking about essential packages exceeds the actual
count of packages marked as essential…

Bug#568827: Tiny example program to show up the problem

2010-03-21 Thread Samuel Hym
Hello,

I wrote a very simple python-gtk program that simply open an image and
displays it and provide the screenshots on a normally working
configuration and on my geode platform.

Here is the list of the installed versions of packages that might be
involved in the trouble. According to some report in olpcnews
mentioned above
http://www.olpcnews.com/forum/index.php?topic=4689.75
reverting to some older xorg solves the issue. There must be a strange
interaction between the ways gtk handles images, a change in core xorg
and the way it all maps to geode. Mmmm.

Regards
Samuel

Hello

I think I've found a work around for this issue. (I'm using Mandriva 2010)
Just allow "testcards" in beidgui.conf. You'll get a warning when accessing

I also can access www.taxonweb.be without problem (naturally with PKCS#11
configured in Firefox)

Thanks for coming back to that issue, and we really should solve
this!

> What about using python-pip for the executable of the python-pip package
> and using perl-pip for the executable of the pip package?

To be honest: Since the perl pip is older and Ian was considering a
rename to pypip [0] my hope was that we can leave the perl package
as-is and the python package would first change upstream and then in
Debian. (In general I see no advantage of changing two binaries in
Debian.)

CC'ing Ian to get an update on his point of view.

This is also reported as [rt.cpan.org #32034]. I'm attaching
the relevant patch:

This seems to solve the POE problem reported in
   http://rt.cpan.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=32034
 * new fileevent2.t test for checking this problem

I've verified that this fixes libpoe-loop-tk-perl for me on amd64.
Cloning, reassigning and blocking accordingly.

I guess it should just be reassigned.
