Bug#578017: Rewrite local addresses (support /etc/aliases).
On Fri, 16. Apr 2010, 16:09:59 +1000, Trent W. Buck wrote: [Feel free to WONTFIX this if it's beyond msmtp's intended scope.] I want a one-stop way to rewrite the recipient of system mail, i.e. To: root becomes RCPT TO:f...@example.net. I suggest: - add an msmtprc command local-to f...@example.net, rewrites ALL local recipients to f...@example.net; or - add support for /etc/aliases. Support for /etc/aliases is beyond the scope of msmtp, just like support for local deliveries. If this is required, it is best to use a real MTA. The catch-all local-to command you suggested might be simple enough to add, but I'm not sure this would be the right solution for your use case: As my new netbook is powerful enough to run cron, I'm interested in delivering system mail to the smarthost (instead of throwing it away). What happens when the cron job runs while you are offline? System services rely on an MTA that queues the mail in case of problems so that it is not lost. AFAIK, all cron can do is log an error message; it cannot save the mail. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Palm PDAs are not that widespread anymore to justify that those packages are installed by default. One of the downsides of gnome-pilot is, that it pulls hal(libhal1) as dependency which we want to get rid of eventually [1]. gnome-pilot version in debian is too old anyway (and I'm not willing to take over maintainership or so) so I've dropped the build-dep. If those applications really need a menu entry, file a bug asking for .desktop file. I saw the wishlist bug #489441, but this is not a complete change to the menu structure. Too bad, because they really are the same thing. The menu library in Xfce 4.6 doesn't support menu merging, so there's no way to display the Debian menu along the freedesktop menu anymore. You might be able to do some stuff (see http://wiki.xfce.org/howto/customize-menu) using the xdg-compliant Debian menu generated in /etc/xdg/menus when you have menu and menu-xdg installed. But that's definitely not something we'll do for common installs. Only an inclusion of what has made Debian one of the best distributions of all: Desktop agnosticism. tags 577217 patch fixed-upstream thanks Attached is a patch that updates the packaging to make speech-dispatcher use pulse by default instead of alsa. The idea was taken from upstream [1]. In build-time, this system unpacks debian source packages by 'dpkg-source -x' and propagates policy-defined targets of debian/rules into the unpacked sources. . This allows you to: * Manage your own files under debian/ such as debian/rules debian/control, debian/changelog and so on separately away from their original packages. * Create your own tuned packages with your own pre-defined DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS, CC in your debian/rules from their original packages without specifying any environment variables in each build-time. * Create your own tuned packages with patches to their original sources as well as to debian/* files, separating them completely away from their original source packages. * Make it possible to redistribute your modified debian package based on another debian source package which restricts source-code from being distributed in modified form _only_ by the distribution of patch files with the source code for the purpose of modifying the program at build time. Bug#579782: ReleaseNotes.txt and updates
Hi, a Debian user reported [1] that the ReleaseNotes.txt file in the source tarball mentions 1.0 as the latest release. It actually looks like the file is intentionally updated only for major releases. However I have to agree with Nicolás that mentioning 1.0 as the latest release in the last minute notes is misleading and provide the feeling of an outdated file. What about keeping the file updated with the info from the wiki [2]? Bug#580323: ssh tunnel feature sort-of useless
Package: vinagre Version: 2.30.1-1 Severity: important [ important as I think ssh-tunneling of vnc is an important feature, feel free to degrade if you think different ] Hi, after #579693 being solved, I wanted to try ssh-tunneling with vinagre to one of my vnc hosts. The first try hung for a while, before spitting out an authentication timeout. Retrying the connection, I noticed vinagre asks for a ssh password, but my host prefers pubkey authentication. After disabling the pubkey, the hang disappeared, but vinagre still failed to authenticate. Looking even stronger on the password window, I noticed that it does not accept the last char of my password (which is 9 chars long). So I changed the password to something shorter and voila, vinagre could authenticate and I saw my vnc screen. Thus we have two authentication bugs here: 1. vinagre fails to detect (and use) pubkey auth 2. vinagre only accepts passwords up to 8 chars Both make the ssh tunneling feature quite useless, at least for me, as I neither want to miss pubkeys (some of my hosts even do not allow anything else) nor change the passwords to weak/short ones. Bug#457075: Salomé packaging
Hi Adam, Sorry for the delay, I have missed the -6 release but I have just built the -7 one which works fine. I have updated the documentation on: http://wiki.debian.org/BuildingSalome It seems that building Med dependencies by hand is no longer needed because libmed-2.3.6-2 is now available in Debian sid. I only had one problem during the installation step with the 'salome.desktop' file which did not exist but it may be an error on my side. I will see if I can reproduce it in the next build. First, the -dev dependency extends beyond libsalome-dev. For example, the GEOM module requires libTKOpenGl.so which is in libopencascade-visualization-dev so salome must depend on at least that package as well. There are likely others. Can some of you help me to figure out what is required? If we miss a couple before upload, that's probably okay, we'll just get even more bug reports for these than we otherwise would. :-) I can help on that part once the VISU module is working, I have just added a ticket on the Logilab's project: http://www.python-science.org/ticket/1841 Later we can hopefully modify Salomé's shared lib loading code so it detects the soname at build time and loads that file at runtime, as this is a bug. If anyone can figure out an easy way to do that now, great; otherwise we need to add a few -dev packages to the dependencies. I have added a ticket too: http://www.python-science.org/ticket/1822 but to my point of view such change should be difficult. Second, I've cut the number of lintian warnings by dozens by making the .py files non-executable. The one problem that results is during startup, which can be solved by the following patch: diff --git a/KERNEL_SRC_5.1.3/bin/runSalome.py b/KERNEL_SRC_5.1.3/bin/runSalome.py index d67d6b0..550a6c2 100755 --- a/KERNEL_SRC_5.1.3/bin/runSalome.py +++ b/KERNEL_SRC_5.1.3/bin/runSalome.py @@ -191,7 +191,7 @@ class ContainerPYServer(Server): if sys.platform == win32: self.CMD=[os.environ[PYTHONBIN], '\'+os.environ[KERNEL_ROOT_DIR] + '/bin/salome/SALOME_ContainerPy.py'+'\','FactoryServerPy'] else: - self.CMD=['SALOME_ContainerPy.py','FactoryServerPy'] + self.CMD=['python','/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/salome/SALOME_ContainerPy.py','FactoryServerPy'] # --- My python is even worse than my French, so that's the best I can do, but I'm certain there's a better way. Can someone help my pathetic python, hopefully in a way that will be acceptable to upstream? I think that SALOME_ContainerPy.py should be considered as an executable script because its first line starts with: #! /usr/bin/env python As a consequence, it should live inside /usr/bin like others commands so no patch is required. The only reproach to upstream may be to keep the '.py' extension which is confusing because SALOME_ContainerPy is supposed to be a command. I have moved SALOME_ContainerPy.py to /usr/bin and made it executable and Salome was still working. I think that it should be possible to add this behavior to the Debian package during the installation step. What is your opinion on this point? Would you like me to work on a patch? Bug#579457: debian-policy: finer granularity for perlapi-*
I would like to include these settings in the virtual package name so that it would be possible to make incompatible ABI changes during the life time of a single Perl upstream version and have a clean transition path. As for the implementation, the name of the virtual package could be derived from $Config{archname}, for example x86_64-linux-gnu-thread-multi. The system type prefix seems unnecessary; stripping it out and adding the version number would give something like Provides: perlabi-5.10.1-thread-multi, perlabi-5.10.0-thread-multi or Provides: perlabi-5.12.0-thread-multi-64int-ld My inclination would be not to use something this verbose. It implies that there could be multiple concurrent builds, which was something I spent some time and effort removing. It seems to me that you could leave it as-is, for this release but additionally make this policy change: For convenience, the perl package could include the suffix and/or the whole string in something like $Config{debian_abi}. In that case we should probably mandate that packages need to use it rather than derive the string themselves. ...which I think is rather a sound idea, which allows you in the ideal case to retain a concise dependency, but does not preclude you changing it arbitrarily should it turn out that there are issues with 64int+ld moving forward. In which case anything would suffice: perlapi-5.12.0-32int for example if you were backing out the change. This of course need not be permanent, the next version could be just perlapi-5.12.1 again. The perl-base package could provide both the old perlapi-version and the new perlabi-version-suffix during the transition period and remove the perlapi-* one when all the packages have been changed. This should not even be required for this transition: no prior package will meet the 64int+lb ABI. [1] Given that this is all about binary compatibility, I don't understand why the virtual package is called perlapi-* and not perlabi-*. Maybe somebody could enlighten me? The name came from the variables in perl used to denote the oldest compatible binary version: api_{revision,version,subversion}. http://perl5.git.perl.org/metaconfig.git/blob/master:/U/perl/patchlevel.U#l74 Feel free to s/abi/api/ if it truely bothers you. --bod -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#534346: Upgrading from 3.8.2 to 3.8.3 with rt-setup-database
Hi I also experienced this error, and tracked it down. For some reason if there's a Schema.Pg in /etc/request-tracker3.8 the upgrade script will try to apply it. I'm not sure at what point the package was updated to move things like schema.Pg from /etc to /usr, but my install has been upgraded a few times and had a schema.Pg there. Moving acl.*, initialdata, schema.*, upgrade and RT_Config.pm away from /etc solved the problem for me. Would it make sense to have a package upgrade script either automatically clean out those files (if it detected they were unchanged), or at least warn the user? -- Knut Arne Bjørndal, Tekniker Easy Connect AS - http://1890.no E-post: knut.arne.bjorn...@easyconnect.no Tlf: 53 20 53 25 signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

I tried installing winNT SP1 in kvm-72 and upgrading kvm to 0.12 as available in bpo and testing. The guest system boots and works just fine here. So I can only conclude that the change in question was in earlier kvm, i.e., when your guest were installed it saw different hardware, which now does not work anymore. If this is the case, there's very little reason to dig into this further, I'm afraid. Alternative possible cause is that you're using even older NT, for which the problem will be reproduceable when upgrading from kvm-72 to kvm-0.12 (note again I'm using SP1 as base install). But after a bit of thinking, it looks like fixing this isn't worth the effort actually: it is how winNT reacts to changes in the hardware it is running on, give or take bugs fixed in later service packs. And by changing kvm you _are_ changing the virtual hardware. I just looked at the winNT hardware configuration - it is already using some sort of generic IDE driver for the IDE controller for me (it is listed in the SCSI controllers applet in the Control Panel). So I don't know what else to try, actually. In order to move win2000+ one usually switches ide to a generic IDE driver, so it works on any IDE controller. With winNT we've only one driver, which already is generic. Oh well. /mjt -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#580344: liboauth-php: Please slightly adjust path in examples code
Package: liboauth-php Version: 0~svn622-1 Severity: minor For the examples provided to be useable, one has to adjust the patch to the files loaded in common.inc.php. Maybe this should be fixed to : require_once(OAuth.php); require_once(OAuth_TestServer.php); Also, maybe a note in a README.Debian would help, by mentioning one has to change the $base setting in common.inc.php to test the provided examples. After installing without using a net connection, a simple modprobe e1000e and dhclient made the net connection work. The following were added automaticly to /etc/modules by the installation: e100 e1000 e1000e But booting with these in /etc/modules did not make the network interface work. Had to do modprobe e1000e manually after each boot. This sounds like a kernel issue. Reassigning to the kernel team. Cheers, FJP I have a correction to make, it was only the DHCP part that didn't work when booting into the installed kernel. The e1000e driver is loaded correctly, and the other (incorrect) drivers can't be seen when doing lsmod. The detection in the installation is still broken though. If it's any help, the installed kernel is 2.6.32-trunk-amd64, and the one used on the USB key is 2.6.30-2-amd64. The network also worked fine with the installed kernel being 2.6.32-3-amd64. I remember reading that Linus and Molnar had problems with this driver in one of the latest kernels, maybe updating the USB key kernel would fix it. When making the USB key I used the boot.img.gz from http://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/dists/testing/main/installer-amd64/current/images/hd-media/ and the netinstall image http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/squeeze_di_alpha1/amd64/iso-cd/debian-testing-amd64-netinst.iso -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. It doesn't use gtkhtml for the about dialog (that would be quite weird) but for the Help documentation. There are a couple of options to go from here: use WebKit/Gecko/maybe gtkhtml3, or depend on a documentation viewer (such as yelp). I'll see if I can work something out.
