Is there some problem with username == primary group name? pam_umask requires both username == primary group name and uid == gid before it will assume UPG are in place when using its 'usergroups' option, and I am not willing to diverge from upstream on this as this would mean admins coming from other systems may get an unpleasant surprise when they find that Debian gives a more relaxed umask than they were expecting in some corner cases. So either someone should convince Linux-PAM upstream to change the behavior of pam_umask, or adduser should enforce the same rules as other implementations, if pam_umask is to be involved here. Beyond that, I have no particular opinion on this question. That's the first useful argument I've heard for changing adduser's behavior. Interoperability with other software is a useful goal, and when I was arguing it wasn't worth the complexity, either pam_umask didn't exist or I was unaware of it. Hi Laurent, On Mon, May 31, 2010 at 08:08:07PM +0200, Laurent Bigonville wrote: Package: git-buildpackage Version: 0.4.65 Severity: wishlist Hi, With this gbp.conf: [DEFAULT] debian-branch = debian upstream-branch = upstream pristine-tar = True [git-buildpackage] debian-branch = patch-queue/debian tarball-dir = ../tarballs/ export-dir = ../build-area/ There is no easy way to tag the release. When building from patch-queue/debian with --git-tag the HEAD of this branch is tagged instead of the debian branch which is wrong. And if I try to tag with --git-tag-only from the debian branch it told me it's the wrong branch. That's actually true. Since patch-queue branches are the best way to deal with source format 3.0 (quilt) packages we should really make this more obvious. What I'm currently doing is to pass --debian-branch=patch-queue/debian to git-buildpackage and do the --tag-only from the debian branch itself. So using something like --use-patch-queue which switches to the pq branch before the build and back afterwards (so the tag apears in the correct location) might be a good solution. -- Guido -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#583979: sudo's pam config not including common-session modules
Package: sudo PAM modules like pam_umask, limits and pam_env don't work with sudo because no common-session modules are included in sudo's pam config file. /etc/pam.d/sudo should be shipped containing the following line: @include common-session-noninteracative If sudo -i would really need it, sudo may use and ship two separate configs /etc/pam/sudo-noninteractive and /etc/pam.d/sudo-interactive, and @include common-session in the latter. But sudo -i should be fine with using the noninteractive auth process config most of the time. Sudo seems to support pam sessions modules since version 1.7 http://www.sudo.ws/pipermail/sudo-users/2005-May/002520.html but they don't get loaded yet. BTW: Sudo seems to be patched to parse /etc/environment itself. I’m replying to Lennart, the original author of nss-myhostname: Do you see and problem with making the default 127.0.1.1 on Debian? Do you mind if your software diverges in Debian somewhat? Hmm, I see no reason why 127.0.0.2 should be a better choice than 127.0.1.1, or vice versa. Can you come up with a reason? Given that one is as good as the other 127.0.0.2 looks a bit more straighforward to me, and I think that generally docs should be fixed to follow what the code does, not the other way round, so I'd probably vote for changing your manual, and keep the code in place. That said, I think this is really a minor issue, and I think it wouldn't be really that bad if debian would deviate here from the rest of the world. So go ahead with 127.0.1.1 if you want to and really don't want to fix the documentation instead. You have my blessing that that is OK. On top of that, if you can make up a good reason I'd be willing to change the upstream to 127.0.1.1, btw. So, convince me! Bug#583954: fstab doesn't mount external USB-drive, but mount -a does
This is probably because of the fundametal problem with the current boot system in Debian, and the fact that the Linux kernel have become event based and it is not possible to know in advance when a device will be available during boot. It is basicly a race condition during boot because the kernel return from kernel module loadin before the bus handled by a kernel module is scanned. :) To solve it, I believe we need to move to a event based boot system. See URL: http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2009/09/msg3.html for more information. I am sure you find similar bug reports against the initscripts package, even if it can't be solved by there without a structural change in the way we handle boots, fsck and mounts. :) Ubuntu uses upstart to get an event based boot system, and this is the reason your external USB disk is mounted correctly there. :) Happy hacking, -- Petter Reinholdtsen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. If the problem is actually in the grace package (rather than in the gsfonts one), maybe we should also send a block 583964 by 583956 ... Well, actually this bug is of grace rather than gsfonts. Squeeze will drop defoma. Most of packages include fonts, ghostscript, and gsfonts already dropped and won't revert. I believe grace has to replace grace.defoma with another structure, if it needs a dynamic font configuration. (I'll try to help.) Temporally I'd like to downgrade severity of this gsfonts bug to migrade #583729 fix to Squeeze ASAP. Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist * Package name: swftools Version : 0.9.0 Upstream Author : Matthias Kramm, Rainer Böhme, De Clarke. Contact: swftools-com...@nongnu.org * URL : http://www.swftools.org/ * License : GPL, LGPL Programming Lang: C Description : collection of utilities for working with Adobe Flash files (SWF) Copy and paste from its homepage: SWFTools is a collection of utilities for working with Adobe Flash files (SWF files). The tool collection includes programs for reading SWF files, combining them, and creating them from other content (like images, sound files, videos or sourcecode). SWFTools is released under the GPL. The current collection is comprised of the programs detailed below: * PDF2SWF A PDF to SWF Converter. Generates one frame per page. Enables you to have fully formatted text, including tables, formulas, graphics etc. inside your Flash Movie. It's based on the xpdf PDF parser from Derek B. Noonburg. * SWFCombine A multi-function tool for inserting SWFs into Wrapper SWFs, contatenating SWFs, stacking SWFs or for basic parameter manipulation (e.g. changing size). * SWFStrings Scans SWFs for text data. SWFDump Prints out various informations about SWFs, like contained images/fonts/sounds, disassembly of contained code as well as cross-reference and bounding box data. * JPEG2SWF Takes one or more JPEG pictures and generates a SWF slideshow from them. Supports motion estimation compression (h.263) for better compression of video sequences. * PNG2SWF Like JPEG2SWF, only for PNGs. * GIF2SWF Converts GIFs to SWF. Also able to handle animated gifs. * WAV2SWF Converts WAV audio files to SWFs, using the L.A.M.E. MP3 encoder library. * AVI2SWF Converts AVI animation files to SWF. It supports Flash MX H.263 compression. Some examples can be found at examples.html. (Notice: this tool is not included anymore in the latest version, as ffmpeg or mencoder do a better job nowadays) * Font2SWF Converts font files (TTF, Type1) to SWF. * SWFBBox Allows to read out, optimize and readjust SWF bounding boxes. * SWFC A tool for creating SWF files from simple script files. Includes support for both ActionScript 2.0 as well as ActionScript 3.0. * SWFExtract Allows to extract Movieclips, Sounds, Images etc. from SWF files. * AS3Compile A standalone ActionScript 3.0 compiler. Bug#583983: kopete: 'The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly.' message on start. No taskbar notifications, no smiles onmessage text, no styles
Package: kopete Version: 4:4.4.3-2 Severity: important Tags: squeeze kopete version 4:4.4.3-2 On the application start it shows the message box with this message: 'The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly.' -- and proceedes start normally. In the chat window it can not show emoticon pictures (showing placeholder), since I can see them in the Configuration - Chat Window - Emoticins dialog. The installation kdeartwork-emoticons package has added emoticon themes, but they also aren't show in chat. Trying to reinstall the kopete package, I've also lost all message window styles. The mesage 'Chat style could not be found, or is invalid.' is shown instead. And the most uncomfortable effect: it doesn't show notifications in the taskbar (no matter that I've checked notification options in the configuration). So I have to look at my contactlist again and agian to find if there are any messages. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-trunk-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=ru_RU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages kopete depends on: ii kdebase-runtime 4:4.4.3-1runtime components from the offici ii kdepim-runtime 4:4.4.3-1Runtime components for akonadi-kde ii libc6 2.10.2-9 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libexpat1 2.0.1-7 XML parsing C library - runtime li ii libgadu31:1.9.0~rc2-1Gadu-Gadu protocol library - runti ii libgif4 4.1.6-9 library for GIF images (library) ii libglib2.0-02.24.1-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libidn111.15-2 GNU Libidn library, implementation ii libkabc44:4.4.3-1library for handling address book ii libkde3support4 4:4.4.3-2the KDE 3 Support Library for the ii libkdecore5 4:4.4.3-2the KDE Platform Core Library ii libkdeui5 4:4.4.3-2the KDE Platform User Interface Li ii libkdnssd4 4:4.4.3-2the DNS-SD Protocol Library for th ii libkhtml5 4:4.4.3-2the KHTML Web Content Rendering En ii libkio5 4:4.4.3-2the Network-enabled File Managemen ii libkmime4 4:4.4.3-1library for handling MIME data ii libknewstuff2-4 4:4.4.3-2the Get Hot New Stuff v2 Library ii libknotifyconfig4 4:4.4.3-2library for configuring KDE Notifi ii libkopete4 4:4.4.3-2main Kopete library ii libkparts4 4:4.4.3-2the Framework for the KDE Platform ii libkpimidentities4 4:4.4.3-1library for managing user identiti ii libkutils4 4:4.4.3-2various utility classes for the KD ii libmeanwhile1 1.0.2-3 open implementation of the Lotus S ii libmediastreamer0 3.2.1-2 linphone web phone's media library ii libmsn0.3 4.1-1.2 high-level C++ library for MSN Mes ii libortp83.2.1-2 Real-time Transport Protocol stack ii libotr2 3.2.0-2 Off-the-Record Messaging library ii libphonon4 4:4.6.0really4.4.1-2 the core library of the Phonon mul ii libqca2 2.0.2-1 libraries for the Qt Cryptographic ii libqimageblitz4 1:0.0.4-4QImageBlitz image effects library ii libqt4-dbus 4:4.6.2-4Qt 4 D-Bus module ii libqt4-network 4:4.6.2-4Qt 4 network module ii libqt4-qt3support 4:4.6.2-4Qt 3 compatibility library for Qt ii libqt4-sql 4:4.6.2-4Qt 4 SQL module ii libqt4-xml 4:4.6.2-4Qt 4 XML module ii libqtcore4 4:4.6.2-4Qt 4 core module ii libqtgui4 4:4.6.2-4Qt 4 GUI module ii libsolid4 4:4.4.3-2Solid Library for KDE Platform ii libssl0.9.8 0.9.8n-1 SSL shared libraries ii libstdc++6 4.4.4-1 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libv4l-00.6.4-1 Collection of video4linux support ii libx11-62:1.3.3-3X11 client-side library ii libxml2 2.7.7.dfsg-2 GNOME XML library ii libxslt1.1 1.1.26-3 XSLT processing library - runtime ii phonon 4:4.6.0really4.4.1-2 metapackage for the Phonon multime ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3 compression library - runtime Versions of packages kopete recommends: ii libqca2-plugin-ossl 0.1~20070904-4 QCA OSSL plugin for libqca2 ii libqt4-sql-sqlite 4:4.6.2-4 Qt 4 SQLite 3 database driver Versions of packages kopete suggests: ii kdeartwork-emoticons 4:4.4.3-1

Bug#583917: initramfs-tools: long delay (6–10 minutes) during boot (root device detection) after upgrade on RAID/LVM/LUKS setup
Am Montag, den 31.05.2010, 22:29 +0200 schrieb Michael Prokop: * Paul Menzel pm.deb...@googlemail.com [Mon May 31, 2010 at 06:41:45PM +0200]: yesterday I upgrade my Debian Sid/unstable system after over a week. Several core packages were upgraded by doing this as lvm2, mdadm, initscripts, initramfs-tools. I have a standard md RAID1 setup with LVM over it. Furthermore there is a partition for `/boot` and a LUKS encrypted `/`. Now I am seeing the following behavior. After GRUB2 started (`linux /vmlinuz-2.6.32-5-amd64 root=/dev/mapper/lvm-root …`) I first get to see a lot of lines sys/devices/virtual/block (some incremented number in 80??) (this is from memory). Afterward I am asked for the LUKS passphrase. After that nothing happens. Just a lot of – according to my Web research unrelated –udev-work messages about `NAME` and `SYMLINK` stuff and nothing happens. Then after six to ten minutes booting finally continues. [...] Is that related to the `root` argument passed in GRUB to `linux`. In [1] the solution is to use a UUID instead of the path. Though I did not find how I can find out the correct value for my RAID device or LVM partition. Executing 'blkid /dev/mapper/lvm-root' should provide you the UUID of the LVM partiton for use as root=UUID=... argument. Thank you. While waiting during the now four hour long boot I found that too over the comment about `vol_id` in `/etc/fstab`. ;-) Adding `root=UUID=…` to `/boot/grub/grub.cfg` fixed the long boot for me. There are still the following issues. 1. What upgrade introduced this behavior? 2. According to `/etc/default/grub` the `root=` entry should be set to the UUID. # Uncomment if you don't want GRUB to pass root=UUID=xxx parameter to Linux #GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID=true Somehow that does not work on my system. 3. The comment in `/etc/fstab` should be updated to use `blkid` instead of `vol_id`. 4. I still see those `sys/devices/virtual/block/md{0,1} (number)` running by. Once before entering the LUKS passphrase dialog and after it. Each time this seems to cause a delay of several seconds to the boot process. I guess that is debpkg:mdadm related. Bug#583316: Running gs in a safe directory.
Dear Bernhard, Instead of trying to use -P- (which currently does not work anyway) with all the complexity of guessing where to add it if the commands are taken from some user config file, it just changes to an empty directory befor calling gs. Sounds good... except: I do not see where /usr/lib/gv/safe-gs-workdir is created. I would prefer to check it actually is empty... pure paranoia, is root-owned so is unlikely to change. Name it please-keep-empty maybe? Bug#583624: libnss-myhostname: maybe use 127.0.1.1 to be consistent with Debian's default /etc/hosts

No special reason I guess,.. I wanted it just to be aligned with Debian's standard. I think the best would perhaps be to find out why Debian chose to use 127.0.1.1 and decide then Cheers, Chris smime.p7s Description: S/MIME cryptographic signature

Bug#583991: Heads up for ISC DHCP v4 transition
Hello, According to my research, you maintain a package, which installs a DHCP hook into /etc/dhcp3 The v4 DHCP packages use /etc/dhcp instead, so at the point that I upload them to unstable, you'll need to modify your package to install its hooks into /etc/dhcp instead. I think I'm fairly close to uploading to unstable. It's currently available in experimental to have a play with. I believe it will have to go through NEW processing when I upload it to unstable, so I'll update this bug again when it hits NEW. regards Andrew signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#583992: [Pkg-utopia-maintainers] Processed: cloning 547653, reassign -1 to resolvconf, reassign -2 to avahi-autoipd ...
Hi Andrew, could you specify what your exact plan is here and how you want packages to be changed wrt their hooks they install, do you want them to be symlinked, moved or copied? Why don't you just make isc-dhcp-client (and dhcp3-client) read hooks from both /etc/dhcp *and* /etc/dhcp3. This way packages could move to the new location and when the transition is over you could drop the compat code from isc-dhcp-client. Anyway, seems that in systems with /var/run/utmp there is still no log. See followup to your bug report, http://bugs.debian.org/463598 I tried removing the '-u /var/run/utmp' part from Xstartup, but seems to still not register sessions. Are wdm sesions registered at your site with the change? I compared code in wdm and xdm Xstartups and they looked very similar, so I guess this problem originates somewhere else. In the box where wdm is installed last time /var/log/wdm.log was updated was long time ago, on November 2005 for sid. I wonder what happened at that time. I think about something related to xfree86 - xorg transition (last xfree86 log in this sid box is from September 2005). Bug#583999: twidge: Fails to display new style retweets
Package: twidge Version: 0.99.4+nmu1 Severity: important Tags: upstream When comparing what i see using twidge to what i see using the twitter.com website, I noticed a bunch of missing tweets in the twidge version. It turns out twidge doesn't handle the new style of retweet introduced several months back, These tweets are simply ignored, so unless you check the website, you would never know they were there in your feed. Having to check the website to make sure you aren't missing out on things your friends think are important/worthwhile knowing about makes using Twidge a little pointless, hence the reason for marking the bug important. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers maverick APT policy: (500, 'maverick'), (500, 'karmic') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.34-5-server (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_AU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_AU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages twidge depends on: ii curl 7.19.7-1ubuntu1 Get a file from an HTTP, HTTPS or ii libc6 2.12-0ubuntu2 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libffi53.0.9-2ubuntu1Foreign Function Interface library ii libgmp3c2 2:4.3.2+dfsg-1ubuntu1 Multiprecision arithmetic library twidge recommends no packages. twidge suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
