Bug#616639: context menu key does not work on Thinkpad X201 Tablet
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.37-2 Severity: normal The context menu key on my keyboard for my new Thinkpad X201 Tablet does not work, according to evtest and xev it triggers the WakeUp keycode. Below is an evtest log of me pressing the menu key 10 times and then Ctrl+C to kill evtest. Bug#616609: /usr/bin/dpkg-deb: Please document that --fsys-tarfile /dev/stdin will work (dpkg-deb will never seek)
On Sun, Mar 06, 2011 at 08:50:30AM +0100, Raphael Hertzog wrote: On Sat, 05 Mar 2011, Josh Triplett wrote: dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile /dev/stdin seems to work, but it would help to have some guarantee in the documentation that it will always work, and dpkg-deb will never seek on the input. Help for what? What's your use case? In my particular case, writing a program that imports the data of a .deb into a git repository, and wanting to stream the .deb (which I don't necessarily have as a file) into dpkg-deb without using a temporary file. I don't really see the advantage that we get to commit to such a restriction. (--fsys-tarfile is mainly used by dpkg itself) OTOH, we just pass the incoming stream to a decompressor like gzip/xz and I doubt they will do any seek. And parsing the few bits of ar information is unlikely to change. I assumed that the decompressor would handle streaming, as would the ar implementation. I guess I just wanted to know that dpkg-deb will continue to read the contents of the ar archive in order. It already needs to read the debian-binary member first, and --fsys-tarfile shouldn't need to read the control.tar.gz at all, so it seems reasonable and not particularly restrictive to guarantee that dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile will read the ar archive in order. - Josh Triplett -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#616644: xdm: strange behaviour after logging out: not reading kbd or mouse
Package: xdm Version: 1:1.1.10-3 Severity: important Using xdm as session manager, after logging out from windowmanager (e16) session user has again xdm login screen. Strangely any input typed on kbd only gets echoed onscreen after moving the mouse. This echo delay includes the enter key as well as the VT switch keys (C+A+F[1-6]{1}). Also a password containing some unusual chars (such as #@ and the like) is not recognised correctly then, so cannot login. Alternatively (about every other time) the kbd input is echoed immediately (as normal) and recognised well, but the mouse is as dead as a doornail, and is not resurrected on entering windowmanager session. Strangely though a mouse tap seems to be noticed -- and reacted to -- only after having typed a key on the kbd. Pointer movement is nil, however. This strange behaviour can be re-set to normal by switching to a VT and then back to VT7. Note: This only happens after coming back to login screen after logging out from windowmanager session. On first login there's no problem at all (apart from the spaces echoed by the password field, s. bug #575486). Not sure if this comes from xdm proper or some associated xlib. Just noticed: same behaviour is also shown by xdm 1:1.1.8-5. As noted before, my kernel is a custom kernel out of debian linux-source-2.6.30 which I have been using since its compilation without any of these X-related problems. [...] For those who don't understand this sentence, libpcsclite1 in sid now depends on pcscd (which in turn depends on the not-so-welcome hal). This is the real problem IMO; I don't care about small library packages as long as they don't drag in random daemons. After a short coordination with Kel, we've decided to disable PCSC in the next wpasupplicant upload, which allows to drop the dependency on libpcsclite1 and therefore indirectly on hal. Which is the real culprit: why do libpcsclite1 depend on pcscd? This is #612971 (cc:ed), and I do not understand why it should be fixed on wpasupplicant side. Previous versions libpcsclite1 (pre 1.6.0 versions) only had a Suggests: pcscd This has been changed to a Depends: in [1]. [1] http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/collab-maint/deb-maint/pcsc-lite/trunk/debian/control?view=diffr1=16127r2=16128 I think having a Recommends: instead of Depends: is the correct solution. The pcscd package will be installed automatically in most cases and can be removed if needed. The Depends: is too strong and not needed. libpcsclite1 depending on pcscd now brings hal, but then in future it will bring whatever pcscd depends on, which is a bit strange for a library. While I am not a library expert and I understand libpcsclite1 is useless without pcscd, still I do not see why a library depends on a daemon to be *installed*. And what if someone writes another daemon different than pcscd, but still for PC/SC communication through libpcsclite1? pcscd and libpcsclite1 are two parts of the same project. The source package is pcsc-lite. They use an ad-hoc protocol to communicate. I do not think a concurrent libpcsclite1 will ever exist :-) Bye, -- Dr. Ludovic Rousseau -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#614277: various suggestions
Nicolas Boulenguez wrote: The package failed to build on several GNUstep architectures. The other failures are not GNUstep-specific, AFAICS (except on sparc)? One still fails, see https://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=oolitearch=sparcver=1.75-1stamp=1298935457file=logas=raw For this, you need to preprocess the source on a sparc machine to figure out what's going on. A more burdensome approach is to examine carefully the source. More seriously, Yavor Doganov ya...@gnu.org is CCed since he may want to provide a rational explanation about endian.h being included indirectly by #include math.h but not by #import math.h (maybe CCing to 614...@bugs.debian.org if the answer is of general public interest). AFAIK endian.h is not included by math.h. Most probably it is included by sys/types.h, which itself is indirectly included by another dependency (like png or zlib). The reason to avoid using #import for C headers is precisely this -- it is very difficult to track down the problem, and it may come at any time when any of the involved headers changes. C headers are simply not designed to work with #import. Usually, many include other C headers, sometimes conditionally via defines, sometimes machine-specific. Some headers are designed to work differently if they've already been included once. When you #import parts which are #include'd from other C headers, you may end up missing some bits eventually and would be very confused why it happens. Unfortunately, many Objective-C tutorials erroneously teach people to use #import freely, which is why a lot of programmers get into the bad habit of doing it. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#616647: patch has removed --unified-reject-files option but quilt tries to use it
Package: quilt Version: 0.48-7 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable when doing quilt push, patch fails with unrecognized option --unified-reject-files, and a perusal of patch's changelog reveals that the lenny compatibility option --unified-reject-files has been removed from patch. It would be nice if this was somehow available, maybe by including the signed .changes file in the message? Then I could go hit whoever messed up their changelog such that the queue daemon mailed me instead of them. Hi, I have a similar request: Please include the .changes file in the reply from dak process-upload. When a co-maintainer does an upload, the only thing I can see at the moment is the distribution (in the subject) and the version number. At least the changelog would be very interesting to have. Package: libportaudio2 Version: 19+svn20110302-1 Severity: wishlist --- Please enter the report below this line. --- Dear Maintainer, Could you please consider to support multi-arch in portaudio package. In the short term, add the Multi-Arch: foreign control for libportaudio2 and libportaudiocpp0 [0]. If you need an example, maybe you can look to the package tzdata. In the long term switch to a full muti-arch. I'm not sure gccco already support the new path. Moreover the triplet value is not yet frozen. 1/ control - Multi-Arch: same 2/ move lib to /usr/lib/triplet/. Triplet spec is not yet frozen, it could be $(DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE) or another tupple spec [1]. The rational behinds this update: I'm currently a dev of PCSX2 (playstation 2 emulator) which is only 32bits compatible due to various dynamic recompiler. For the moment there is no easy way for PCSX2 users to install the 32bits portaudio version on amd64 system. Besides it would ease the futur integration of PCSX2 in Debian. Thanks for your attention. Bug#612348: please unremove xprint, libxfontp
Dear FTP masters, xprint and its dependency libxfontp (and God knows which other related packages in this heinous act of digicide) were requested for removal without my authorisation. I have uploaded a replacement version 1:1.3.4-4 of libxfontp in order to make the changes to xprint that I wanted. But I thought afterwards it might perhaps be simpler for you to undo the removal of xprint and libxfontp (1:1.3.4-3) than to accept new packages for them. If that is possible then please do undo the removals (and reject libxfontp 1:1.3.4-4). If not then I'll upload a new xprint to the NEW queue once libxfontp is back in. I will be requesting removal of xprint later, but now is not the time. I want to establish a final version for the archives first. Bug#616362: gcc-snapshot: link failure with gnat (/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -laddr2line)
Євгеній Мещеряков eu...@debian.org writes: Hello, I reported that bug because I tried to compile spark-gpl. I'm interested in that; I'm sure others are, too. Could you please announce your effort on debian-...@lists.debian.org? It must be possible to join efforts. IIUC, the main stumbling block is, or was, that some SPARK tools are written in Prolog and require a non-free Prolog compiler. Do you know anything about that? Compilation failed with stack overflow or invalid memory access. It was compiled fine with gcc-snapshot, but linking failed. So I guess the bug with stack overflow was fixed somewhere between gcc-4.4 and 4.6. Or maybe it was introduced by patches... This bug has quite a complex history. Upstream (AdaCore) supports symbolic tracebacks through a library called libaddr2line.a, which they produce from their own patched binutils sources. This has been so for as long as I can remember. I patched gnat 3.15p back in 2005 to support symbolic tracebacks without requiring this special library (doing a fork()/exec() of addr2line instead). This patch was broken by an upstream change in gnat-4.3 and re-fixed in gnat-4.4 (=4.4.4-4). 3 березня 2011 о 21:07 +0100 Ludovic Brenta написав(-ла): This is because the patch ada-symbolic-tracebacks.diff has not been ported to gcc-snapshot. I see that this patch is present in gcc-snapshot source, and it is even applied (at least at the beginning of the build, I do not have enough free time now to build it all). But installed g-trasym.adb really contains pragma Linker_Options (-laddr2line);. Is it intended behaviour or there is something wrong here? Yes, this is wrong. Debian has no such library as libaddr2line, so the Linker_Options should not be there. The patch ada-symbolic-tracebacks.diff normally removes it but, as I said, it has not yet been ported to gcc-snapshot, so it leaves the sources in an inconsistent state. BTW do you think it is worth it to submit bug reports to the gnat bugzilla? I see there are many reports from years ago with no comment. Is it used at all by upstream? Submitting bugs in the bugzilla is always a good idea. AdaCore look at these bugs occasionally but not systematically; they have already fixed a majority of them (see the closed PRs). (It is only natural that they give priority to bugs submitted by paying customers). In addition, contributors outside AdaCore occasionally step in. That means quilt needs to be updated (since presumably --unified-reject-files has been removed from upstream patch). quilt push is kind of a fundamental operation of quilt which means quilt is unusuable until this is fixed. Hello, I believe that this bug is not due to the quilt software, but to your local configuration. In fact, grepping for that string on the source package reveals that it is only present in the documentation (both in the man page and in the pdf version). So I assume that you have that string in your ~/.quiltrc file. Bug#616660: /usr/bin/pcretest must not be shipped in libpcre3
Package: libpcre3 Version: 8.02-1.1 Severity: serious User: vor...@debian.org Usertags: multiarch Hi Mark, The /usr/bin/pcretest executable in the libpcre3 is a violation of Policy 8.2: If your package contains files whose names do not change with each change in the library shared object version, you must not put them in the shared library package. Otherwise, several versions of the shared library cannot be installed at the same time without filename clashes, making upgrades and transitions unnecessarily difficult. [...] Run-time support programs that use the shared library but are not required for the library to function or files used by the shared library that can be used by any version of the shared library package should instead be put in a separate package. This package might typically be named `libraryname-tools'; note the absence of the soversion in the package name. Of course libpcre has a very, very stable ABI so it's possible we will never have to worry about a new soname (and this explains why no one has worried about this policy violation before now), but with multiarch finally coming around, a library package that ships a binary in /usr/bin doesn't only conflict with a different soname of the same library, it also conflicts with the *same* library from a different architecture. IMHO it doesn't make sense to create a -tools package just for pcretest, especially given the lukewarm justification for including the executable that's given in bug #162998. Perhaps this executable could be moved to the pcregrep package, or else maybe it should just be dropped?a -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0 APT prefers oldstable APT policy: (500, 'oldstable'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: armel (armv5tel) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-1-iop32x Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages libpcre3 depends on: ii libc6 2.11.2-10 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib libpcre3 recommends no packages. libpcre3 suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. For the moment there is no easy way for PCSX2 users to install the 32bits libglew version on amd64 system. Besides it would ease the futur integration of PCSX2 in Debian. Thanks for your attention. Bug#616664: gthumb: slow preview when importing from device
Package: gthumb Version: 3:2.12.2-1 Severity: normal Hey, I've started to use gthumb with the gio/gvfs backend. I gvfs-mount my Canon EOS 350D camera which then appears in the side pane, and can import photos using “Import from removable devices”. Both in the importer and in the pane, displaying the thumbnails is really slow, it looks as if it was retrieving the whole pictures and thumbnails them, instead of the previous behavior (when it was directly using gphoto2) where it was getting the thumbnail already available from the camera. It'd be nice to bring that back since it means it takes ages to display the picture you want to select for import. Spyder is not a web development tool. It thus does not require libjs-jquery. This may be corrected. Hello, first thanks for your report. In fact spyder use python-sphinx for is documentation and the search engine provided by sphinx put jquery.js in the generated documentation. So to avoid multiplications of thoses files on the system and simplify its maintenability I find it better to use directly libjs-jquery. So if it is ok for you. GDM does not use it and the patched version of XDM does not use it either. In Debian, this PAM module is configured to enable ConsoleKit only for a text console. Here is a patch for XDM. Maybe this can easily be adapted for slim: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17325 However, in the meanwhile, maybe this is better to use pam_ck_connector by adding an appropriate /etc/pam.d/slim file and fix the bug Alexis mentioned. Bug#616427:
this is not a bug, this is a feature. You told it not to save the temporary file so that's what it did. Hi Christopher, i'm sorry, but i think this feature is a bit misleading. Imagine you save a document in LibreOffice and open it the other day, but then you decide not to alter it, and you quit without saving. What do you expect? I'm quite sure you would be happy to read your document again. In my case i was quite unhappy because i lost one hour of work. As i have written before, a simple solution would be to tell charm not to delete the draft file. When something is changed, create a new draft file with a new timestamp and everything is fine. Hi Patrick; In my experiments, adding to sythesis-sdk.pc did not fix the problem, while adding it to synthesis.pc did. I seem to recall that synthesis-sdk.pc is not used by the syncevolution configuration currently (at least in 1.1.99.2). Of course this could change in the future. With 2:1.9.99.903-1, I'm getting: | -(cyril@talisker)-(/tmp)-() | $ xauth -f private generate $DISPLAY . untrusted timeout 10 | xauth: (argv):1: couldn't query Security extension on display :42.0 Will see if that's expected once I get some more info from a squeeze system. Bug#616667: X server crash due to xauth generate with large timeout
Cyril Brulebois writes (Re: Bug#616667: X server crash due to xauth generate with large timeout): With 2:1.9.99.903-1, I'm getting: | -(cyril@talisker)-(/tmp)-() | $ xauth -f private generate $DISPLAY . untrusted timeout 10 | xauth: (argv):1: couldn't query Security extension on display :42.0 Will see if that's expected once I get some more info from a squeeze system. xauth generate _replaces_ the cookie in the specified xauthority file with an untrusted one. That error message is the one you get if you _already_ have an untrusted cookie in your xauthority file - ie, if you run xauth generate for the second time without running the cp again. If you ran xauth generate without the -f option then I'm afraid you have busticated your session. Of course it may be that that error message is also the one you get if a fixed server rejects your big timeout, but that should be easy enough to test ... You can see the trace in the below (pasted by your reportbug scripts) Linux kernel log. Is the ALSA version in Debian Sid/unstable not compatible or is there another problem? I'm not sure what you mean by 'the ALSA version'. ALSA is made up of kernel drivers and libasound in user-space. The drivers are included in the kernel package and cannot be incompatible with it. The interface between the drivers and libasound is not supposed to change in an incompatible way, and in any case a user process should not be able to crash the kernel. Sorry for my ignorance and thank you for the clarification. So I think this is just a bug in the driver. Please report it upstream at https://bugzilla.kernel.org under product 'Drivers', component 'Sound(ALSA)'. Let us know the bug number or URL so we can track it.
