Bug#618637: kppp does not work after upgrade from Lenny to Squeeze

2011-03-19 Thread whitehea
I have what appears to be the same problem. To shed some light on it, I traced
system
calls made by kppp to find out what arguments it passes to pppd, as follows:

su -p
strace -u username -f -s 100 -e trace=fork,vfork,execve 21 kppp

(The -u flag in the strace man page explains why it is necessary in this case
to run
strace with root privileges, using the -u flag to pass in your ordinary
username (under
which you would normally be running kppp.))

The following excerpt from the output of this strace command shows pppd being
called:

...
Opener: received OpenDevice
Opener: received ExecPPPDaemon
Process 2097 attached
In parent: pppd pid 2097
Couldn't find interface ppp0: No such device
Couldn't find interface ppp0: No such device
Couldn't find interface ppp0: No such device
Kernel supports ppp alright.
[pid 2097] execve(/usr/sbin/pppd, [pppd, 115200, -detach,
crtscts,
defaultroute, usepeerdns, user, bwhitehe], [/* 0 vars */]) = 0
Couldn't find interface ppp0: No such device
Couldn't find interface ppp0: No such device
pppd: The remote system is required to authenticate itself
pppd: but I couldn't find any suitable secret (password) for it to use to
do so.
pppd: (None of the available passwords would let it use an IP address.) Process
2097
detached
[pid 2094] --- SIGCHLD (Child exited) @ 0 (0) ---
It was pppd that died
pppd exited with return value 1
...

Based on the mention of /etc/ppp/peers/kppp-options at the beginning of the
original bug
report (and on my experience with older versions of kppp) I was expecting an
argument
like

call kppp-options

to show up in the argument list passed to pppd, but it's not there. It seems
to me that
the absence of call kppp-options or anything like that in pppd's arguments
might
explain why pppd doesn't see Mark's noauth option in
/etc/ppp/peers/kppp-options, and
thus why you get pppd: The remote system is required to authenticate itself
... in the
original bug report

This suggests the following workaround, which gets kppp functioning for me.
(Mark, I
guess you've already done step 1, but I'm including it below because
/etc/ppp/peers/kppp-options was not present in my fresh install of squeeze.)

WORKAROUND

(1) as root, create (or edit) the file /etc/ppp/peers/kppp-options so that it
has one
line containing the uncommented word

noauth

(2) In the Accounts tab of kppp configuration, edit your account as follows:
In the
Dial tab, near the bottom of the window, select Customize pppd arguments
and add the
following argument:

call kppp-options

(3) Run kppp in a terminal window (as in the original bug report)

---

After doing this, my output from step 3 is:

~$ kppp
Opener: received SetSecret
Opener: received SetSecret
Opener: received OpenLock

Opener: received OpenDevice
Opener: received ExecPPPDaemon
In parent: pppd pid 2192
Couldn't find interface ppp0: No such device
Couldn't find interface ppp0: No such device
Kernel supports ppp alright.
Couldn't find interface ppp0: No such device
Opener: received OpenResolv
Opener: received RemoveSecret
Opener: received RemoveSecret

but in spite of these remaining complaints, the ppp0 interface appears to be
running OK
based on the output of ifconfig ppp0 and on apparently normal network
functioning of my
ssh client and my web browser.

Bug#617745: Problem Solved

2011-03-19 Thread Simon Guest
I deleted my ~/.libreoffice and ~/.openoffice.org directories. That
solved the problem, tables are now working as normal, so you can close
this bug.

Perhaps I should have moved those directories somewhere out of the
way, so I could have a poke around to see what broke, but ah well,
it's all good now.

cheers,
Simon

Is evolution marked as online or offline? (on the lower left corner) Do
you use network-manager?

You're just using plain imap, no such thing as evolution-exchange/mapi?

Bug#618872: Wildcard regression in mod_vhost_ldap 2.0.6

2011-03-19 Thread Anders Kaseorg
Package: libapache2-mod-vhost-ldap
Version: 2.0.6-1
Tags: patch
Severity: serious

The commit “Fix wildcard search” [1] in mod_vhost_ldap 2.0.6 is incorrect,
and actually breaks wildcard searches. The code was correct originally
[2], and has been in production use on servers at MIT for two years. But
now it looks for records that literally have ‘\*’ in the hostname instead
of ‘*’, and of course it doesn’t find one.

(Are you sure you haven’t been accidentally testing with records that have
literal backslashes in the hostname, e.g. ‘\*.example.com’? Or perhaps
someone was trying out the patch for wildcard hostnames without my prior
patch that properly escapes LDAP queries [3]?)

I verified the regression from 2.0.5 on a real server, and successfully
tested the patch below on top of 2.0.6. The patch is also available in my
Git repository git://andersk.mit.edu/mod-vhost-ldap.git in the branch
“wildcard”. This branch also has a spelling fix for the example
configuration file.

Subject: [PATCH] Revert incorrect “fix” of wildcard search

It is wrong to add extra backslashes before *, because escaping is
already done by ldap_bv2escaped_filter_value. The extra backslash
made lookups fail.

This partially reverts commit fb5409ad77a245ed0ae746d198b394b580b4de3e.

Bug#618275: Getting IPv6 running with rtorrent (was:Re: Bug#618275: dup of #617791)

2011-03-19 Thread Rogério Brito

Well, unfortunately, I failed miserably at browsing your site for patches.
:-) Google was not of much help either. :-(

I had a discussion with the rtorrent author at some point (trying to
get it into mainline), and he made me do some changes; I'll see if I
can dig them up at some point, or if they're already included in -07.

I would just like to grab something so that I can push a new version to the
Debian repositories (perhaps to experimental, if you think that it is not
proper for public consumption).

Thanks.

Bug#618873: cairo-dock-plugins: Please recompile with Cairo-Dock v2.3.0

2011-03-19 Thread Joerg
Package: cairo-dock-plugins
Version: 2.1.3.10-3
Severity: wishlist

After upgrading cairo-dock-core to 2.3.0~0rc1-1 none of the plugins
seems to be able to run.
The error messages from .xsession-errors:
/tmp/buildd/cairo-dock-2.3.0~0rc1/src/gldit/cairo-dock-module-manager.c:cairo_dock_load_module:167)
this module ('/usr/lib/cairo-dock/libcd-weather.so') was compiled
with Cairo-Dock v2.1.3-10-lucid, but Cairo-Dock is in v2.3.0

Is it possible to have a tighter dependecy between cairo-dock-core and
cairo-dock-.*-plugin to prevent this error?

Bug#611972: Please disable umountroot in lxc-debian template

Like checkroot.sh was disabled in lxc-debian template, may be the umountroot
 should be disabled too.

To me, this is a bug, not a wishlist.

It's really annoying, for instance if one wants to change something in the boot
procedure and wants to restart the container.

Even more, the mount state in the host appears as still rw, which is really
confusing.

My 2 cents,

Best regards,

Bug#618874: lintian: Please check copyright stanzas from non-DFSG licenses

2011-03-19 Thread Nicholas Bamber
Package: lintian
Version: 2.4.3
Severity: wishlist

First of all I have to say that this would be more implementable once the
standardized copyright
format has stabilized and non-use is deprecated. As such it should be taken as
a vote of support for
#478930 .

I recently found that I had issued something into the main area with parts
under the W3C-Document license.
That license does not permit modification. The ability to match verify the
listed licenses against the
stated DFSG status seems like a killer app within the Debian packaging world to
me.

Bug#618715: felix-latin: Can not make any search

2011-03-19 Thread Georges Khaznadar
Hello Michael,

Michael P. a écrit :
 Package: felix-latin
 Version: 2.0-2
 Severity: normal

Whatever I enter into the search bar, I always get a Ne puis charger
 /home/user/.felix-out.tif (in french).

The instructions which triggered this message are :
  QString outfile=QDir::homePath ()+/.felix-out.tif;
  ...
  QProcess::execute(/usr/bin/ddjvu, args);

which imply writing into a file /home/user/.felix-out.tif with the
application ddjvu

So either you are missing the application ddjvu or the directory
/home/user is not writable.

I shall fix the packages dependency : it sould depend on djvulibre-bin,
obviously!

So the software is just unusable.

(Another problem: the interface is always in french)

You are right: every software should at least be able to output messages
in a language provided by a world-sized empire. Possible examples of
language are : Latin, English (by order of appearance).

I suggest to Yves Ouvrard, the upstream author, to modify the default
value of the messages to be in Latin rather than in French. You are free
to contribute to the localization of the package in your mother tongue.

By the way, the dictionary featured by felix-latin is only
Latin-French. If you are aware of an already digitalized Latin-English
dictionary available in the public domain or under some free license,
please inform us.

Best regards, Georges.

Dumpasn1 have code to convert unicode values in BMPString into current
locale, but this code doesn't work, because there is no setlocale call
 in the program.

Also i've found that call to wprintf function as written in dumpasn1 source
doesn't work properly on Debian system, and it is better to use Mac OS X
 branch here.

 See attached patch.

Do you have a sample file I could test dumpasn1 against to reproduce the
problem please?

Also, is the bug still here with the latest dumpasn1 upload?

2.) It would be really helpful if it checked that any bug mentioned as
closed in the changelog really does relate to the bug.

Bug#618835: inkscape: Barcode - Datamatrix dialog gives errors with live preview and bad row/col count

Confirmed in inkscape_0.48.1ubuntu2. Looking at the extension script,
only a finite set of row/col combinations are valid. It's not a good
idea for Inkscape to use spin buttons live preview!

I just tried Extensions Render Barcode - Datamatrix

I checked Live preview and clicked the spin buttons for Rows to
 see the images grow.

When i hit Rows == 19, a new dialog box popped up, with this
 message:

Inkscape has received additional data from the script executed.
The script did not return an error, but this may indicate the
results will not be as expected.

It seems to me that the spin buttons shouldn't allow the user to
choose bad values (e.g. enforce a range), but i don't know enough
about datamatrix to know if that's acceptable or not in a 2-D
constraint.  For example, maybe 200x200 is OK, but 200x10 is not.  if
that was the case, then starting with 10x10, you'd have no way to get
 to 200x200.

So maybe the right fix is for the live preview to simply disable
itself when the dimensions are unacceptable, with an in-window display
 of why it's not working.

Thanks. Note that it's better to use architecture wildcards, e.g. !hurd-any. In
this case I'm making it [linux-any] since that's the Architecture of
wireless-tools, so netspeed can also build on kFreeBSD.

It is just a warning. You can still use the Python module.

This is already fixed in upstream pyscard version.

If the new upstream version is not released soon I will patch the Debian
package.

Bug#618878: [pm-utils] power.d/wireless broken

2011-03-19 Thread Florian Kriener
Package: pm-utils
Version: 1.4.1-7
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
I noticed that pm-utils did not turn on wireless power management
when unplugging from ac on my laptop. I investigated a bit and
found out, that the power.d/wireless skript uses a heuristic
method for finding out if a network interface is a wireless
interface. The line in question is

# Skip if not a wireless card.
[ -d /sys/class/net/$1/wireless ] || return 1

Apparently, the directory /sys/class/net/$1/wireless has gone
away, or is not available on every platform at least. Therefor I
think it's best to use /sys/class/ieee80211 instead.

The patch below corrects the script accordingly. The new skript
works fine on my box but I cannot test it on different hardware
and it might need some adjustments in the final loop for other
network cards since I am not sure what it means, when one
ieee80211/* device has multiple ../device/net/* devices.

Bug#618879: clicking on the tray icon brings up an about dialog

2011-03-19 Thread Stanislav Maslovski
Package: transmission-gtk
Version: 2.11-1
Severity: minor

Just a minor thing that is a bit annoying: if transmission is
minimized to tray, when I click its icon to bring the window up, the
about dialog is always shown above the main window, so that I have to
close it first before I can do anything else. I think it is comlete
unnecessary.

Bug#618872: Wildcard regression in mod_vhost_ldap 2.0.6

2011-03-19 Thread Ondřej Surý
Anders,

sorry for that. I guess my testing was just wrong and since I received
a complaint that the wildcard searches are hammering the LDAP search I
assumed that there was indeed something wrong. I guess I should have
done more testing before releasing the mvl with brown-paper-bag bug
:-(.

I have just uploaded 2.0.7 with your fixes from wildcard branch. Thank
you very much.

Description: mode switching data for usb-modeswitch
Several new USB devices have their proprietary Windows drivers onboard,
especially WAN dongles. When plugged in for the first time, they act
like a flash storage and start installing the driver from there. If
the driver is already installed, the storage device vanishes and
a new device, such as an USB modem, shows up. This is called the
 ZeroCD feature.
 .
On Debian, this is not needed, since the driver is included as a
Linux kernel module, such as usbserial. However, the device still
shows up as usb-storage by default. usb-modeswitch solves that
issue by sending the command which actually performs the switching
of the device from usb-storage to usbserial.
 .
This package contains the commands data needed for usb-modeswitch.

Bug#532121: Status of #532121

2011-03-19 Thread Sebastian Ramacher
Dear James and Andreas,

Jakub Wilk asked me to clarify the situation of #532121 [1]. Is python-crypto
really orphaned or was the RFA bug left open unintentionally?

If it's really orphaned, I'd be interested to adopt it. Otherwise I'd reset the
bug the former state and remove my package from m.d.n [2]. I didn't mean to
hijack the package.

Kind regards

Bug#618882: python-qt4: crashes plasma-desktop

2011-03-19 Thread Sebastian Bremicker
Package: python-qt4
Version: 4.8.3-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is a duplicate of #615626
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=615626 but I think that this
was only introduced with 4.8.3-2. After logging in plasma-desktop crashes. I
already reported this to KDE at https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=268875
indicating that it might be debian-related. Downgrading python-qt4 again to
4.8.3-1 appears to solve the issue.

Kind regards

Sebastian

Well, unfortunately, I failed miserably at browsing your site for patches.
:-) Google was not of much help either. :-(

Mm, yes, the bug is the only place to find them, really.

It's sort of stupid that I should need a distribution site for them;
they should just gone into mainline. But that's a different story...

I would just like to grab something so that I can push a new version to the
Debian repositories (perhaps to experimental, if you think that it is not
 proper for public consumption).

OK, well, I can try making an updated patch. But as long as I can't find a
DHT node to bootstrap against, it's sort of hard to test. :-)

FWIW, I tried checking against the version in stable, but that seemingly
can't deal with Magnet links at all.

Bug#618884: gnome-shell: problem moving windows from one screen to the other when they are vertically arranged

2011-03-19 Thread Rémi Letot
Package: gnome-shell
Version: 2.91.91-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

I have a laptop with dual screen setup. The external screen
is above my laptop screen.

This setup worked not optimally but fine with the previous
version of gnome-shell, but now I'm unable to move a window
from one screen to the other. The title bar refuses to go over
the separation.

It works ok when the screens are configured to be side by side,
I have the problem only when they are one above the other.

Thanks,

Bug#618885: sasl2-bin: unowned files after purge (policy 6.8, 10.8)

2011-03-19 Thread Holger Levsen
Package: sasl2-bin
Version: 2.1.23.dfsg1-8
Severity: important
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts piuparts.d.o

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package left unowned files on the
system after purge, which is a violation of policy 6.8 (or 10.8):

http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-maintainerscripts.html#s-removedetails

Filing this as important as having a piuparts clean archive is a release goal
since lenny.

From the attached log (scroll to the bottom...):

0m20.7s ERROR: FAIL: Package purging left files on system:

Bug#618886: lilo: [INTL:fi] Updated Finnish translation of the debconf templates

Please include attached updated translation file fi.po to the package.

The last string may be missing a word and also there should be change
the for - for the.

Until kernel using the newer disk interface 'libata' you need the newer
DiskID and/or UUID in your /etc/lilo.conf the for boot and root options.
For the most modern systems you should use this conversion and then run
'/sbin/lilo'.

Please make sure to unfuzzy all the complete translations or ask for
updates if meanings change in the string.

Bug#618887: dirvish: Alias to / interpeted as no alias

2011-03-19 Thread Peter Lebbing
Package: dirvish
Version: 1.2.1-1.1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

When having a line in the vault config like:

tree: /root/backupmnt/ /

It behaves like

tree: /root/backupmnt/

The alias to / is ignored. This means that a file at the root of the
transfer named test, ends up in the index named

/root/backupmnt/test

Whereas one would expect the index file to contain this name as

/test

because of the alias option.

Attached patch fixes that behaviour. Currently, dirvish does the
following things:

- remove trailing slashes
- if alias is empty, set it equal to path, the first argument to the
  tree option.

By reversing the order of these two operations, the behaviour ought to
be as expected for all cases, including alias to root, if you ask me.

Thanks,

Peter.

Bug#618888: proftpd-basic: files in /home plus owned and unowned files after purge (policy 9.1.1, 6.8, 10.7.3 + 10.8)

User: debian...@lists.debian.org

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package left owned and
unowned files on the system after purge, which is a violation of policy 6.8,
10.7.3 and 10.8:

http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-maintainerscripts.html#s-removedetails
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-files.html#s10.7.3

From the attached log (scroll to the bottom...):

0m30.7s ERROR: FAIL: Package purging left files on system:

  /var/log/proftpd owned by: proftpd-basic

Putting files in /home is also a violation of
http://www.pathname.com/fhs/pub/fhs-2.3.html#HOMEUSERHOMEDIRECTORIES (which
is a violation of Debian policy 9.1.1) thus the serious severity.

Description: Versatile, virtual-hosting FTP daemon - binaries
ProFTPD is a powerful modular FTP/SFTP/FTPS server. This File Transfer
Protocol daemon supports also hidden directories, virtual hosts, and
per-directory .ftpaccess files. It uses a single main configuration
file, with a syntax similar to Apache.
 .
Because of the advanced design, anonymous-FTP directories can have
an arbitrary internal structure (bin, lib, etc, and special files are
not needed). Advanced features such as multiple password files and
 upload/download ratios are also supported.
 .
This package contains the daemon and all main modules used for
common configurations. If you need database-centric authentication
install the suitable proftpd-mod suggested package.

2011-03-19 Thread Josselin Mouette
Package: mkvtoolnix

Hi,

currently mkvtoolnix ships two desktop entries.
 - One of them doesn’t work at all, since it references a non-existing
   binary (mmg).
 - The other doesn’t work either since it doesn’t specify Terminal=true.
Furthermore, even if it worked, it has nothing to do in a main menu.
At the very least, it needs to set NoDisplay=true to be disabled by
   default.

Bug#618890: flightgear should depend on fgfs-aircraft-base and fgfs-models-base

2011-03-19 Thread Tomasz Kaźmierczak
Package: flightgear
Version: 2.0.0-3
Severity: important

The flightgear package only recommends fgfs-aircraft-base and fgfs-models-base
packages.
Because of that, when one doesn't 'treat recommends as depends' the packages
are not installed.
The effect is that after running fgfs one gets the following errors.

1. If the fgfs-aircraft-base is missing, the fgfs displays this message in
console and quits immedietely:
Cannot find specified aircraft: c172p
Config option parsing failed ...

2. If the fgfs-models-base is missing, the fgfs starts to load and then quits
with a Segmentation Fault:
Failed to load file: Models/Aircraft/marker.xml

Hi Michelle,

I found this bug with wmmixer. Do you need this feature yet?

Yes, now it is more importandt because if I startmy FVWM which swallows
3 instances (onbord and two Audigy ZS) of wmmixer I have to check where
the right mixer is

If you can correct this bug it would be a very great service. I am open
for immediately testing if it works under Squeeze (production system)

Ok, taking a look on the wmmixer, this application is developed to
support *one* mixer device, and show this device in the dock widget. The
configuration file accepts channels using a number: addchannel 0, and
0 is the first channel of the selected device. You can change the
device using the correct parameter when you launch the application.

You need (else, correct me) that one dock supports multiple soundcards,
then:

1. The parameter (-m) to select the device must be changed to support
multiple devices
2. Because in the configuration file you select only the channel 0 as
a number, and not the device, the configuration file needs to be changed
to support multiple soundcards. Then, should accept something like
addchannel 0,1 for the souncard 0 and the channel 1
3. You need to check the device list sort, because if one device was in
/dev/mixer and now is /dev/mixer0, then the channels are affecting to
other device.
4. Because now you have multiple devices, the application must to know
what device is selected, and need to have a list of devices. In the
source, the class WMMixer has only one device and should be changed to
an array. For this reason, abstraction between the devices and the user
interfaces is needed to do that.

After read the source, to do that, we need to rewrite the full application.

Is possible to do that? probably. But the problem is that the current
application and the new application will be completely different.

In my oppinion, this bug is not a real bug, is not a little patch, is
a new application design, and the bug should be closed.

Regards,

kix.

Bug#618896: ITP: libmoosex-oneargnew-perl -- Moose role that extends class' constructor to accept single arguments

2011-03-19 Thread Alessandro Ghedini
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Alessandro Ghedini al3x...@gmail.com

* Package name: libmoosex-oneargnew-perl
  Version : 0.001
Upstream Author : Ricardo Signes r...@cpan.org
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/MooseX-OneArgNew/
* License : GPL-1+ or Artistic
  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : Moose role that extends class' constructor to accept single
arguments

MooseX::OneArgNew lets your constructor take a single argument, which will be
translated into the value for a one-entry hashref. It is a parameterized
role with two parameters:
 * type - The Moose type that the single argument must be for the one-arg form
to work. This should be an existing type, and may be either a string type or
   a MooseX::Type.
 * init_arg - This is the string that will be used as the key for the hashref
constructed from the one-arg call to new.

NOTE: This is another dependency of the new version of libconfig-mvp-perl.

Looks like the build failure is due to 08_pcsc_dynamic.patch

We could drop the patch or we could update the patch to add '-ldl' to LIBS in
build system. I'm undecided, and atm extremely burnt out with real life work,
so am looking for some advice.

08_pcsc_dynamic.patch is untested by anyone, not very beautiful looking. Also
it seems up to me to push to upstream, which I'm not totally confident about.

Further to the problem, upstream build system seems not to add '-ldl' to LIBS
for BSD configurations. For example:

$ grep -A1 -B1 '\-ldl' wpa_supplicant/Makefile

ifndef CONFIG_DRIVER_BSD

LIBS += -ldl

endif

--

ifneq ($(CONFIG_L2_PACKET), freebsd)

LIBS += -ldl

endif

I do not know why this is the case, and I think this will come up if I was to
push this patch upstream. There are multiple places in which this linker flag
gets added to LIBS for non BSD configurations which is why we did not witness
this build failure on linux before now.

Attached is what I drafted up in working copy of pkg-wpa SVN in response to the
FTBFS notifications some days ago, comments about how to proceed are very
welcome. I know Stephan's inclination is to drop the patch and let someone
with the hardware and know how fix up the problem in the future.

Thanks, Kel.

The fedora guys have had a good go at this without success. the upstream

qualify as free. I don't think we can even package it in non-free

Bug#618900: xserver-xorg-video-mga: does not work with MGA G100 chip

2011-03-19 Thread Martin
Package: xserver-xorg-video-mga
Version: 1:1.4.11.dfsg-4+squeeze1
Severity: important

When starting X from console with startx video changes to graphic mode,
but the picture on the screen is all messed up. I can not see anything
sane. Bottom half of screen is black, only upper half is used by X but
it is so messed up that I can not recognize anything where to click.

The computer is actually working, so I can switch to console with
CTRL-ALT-F1. But at this time the screen is messed up on console too.
The screen is full of some random symbols [letters/puctuation marks] and
all those letter kind of dance [to me it seems like sync signal is bad].
I can type some commands but and see that some characters on screen are
changing but it does not echo character that I type but some random
character. And command do get executed. I can for example type:
$ sudo reboot
and computer do reboot, but I can not see what I am typing.

Basically at this point computer is not usable either in graphic mode or
on console.

Just to make sure my graphic card or monitor are not dead I installed
Lenny again and all worked well.

If I use 'vesa' as driver instead of 'mga' the graphical desktop shows OK
but it is not usable because the useage of CPU by X is 100% and it takes
ages to open any window [xterm or xclock for example].

For fastest fix that comes to mind now is to use driver from lenny.
Is it possible? Or can I download and recompile lennys driver to work
in squeeze?

Martin

That's a part of it, yes - you've submitted a partial patch which
doesn't implement enough support to work fully on pretty much all modern
systems.

GNU/Linux box with dual cores, especially the last lines! This bug is
important due to the support of a new architecture and a patch and from
what I've learned regarding severity levels it is important! Prove me
 wrong and I'll concur.

Please take a reality check here - the code for this leaf package now
compiles but does not fully run on an architecture which isn't exactly
likely to be a release candidate in the near future. This doesn't
strike me as being the most urgent issue ever.

Which are your arguments for kfreebsd, which is one of the
 supported architectures of x86info?

Note that I downgraded the severity to wishlist. This is different to
closing the bug. All you're doing by trying to keep the severity of the
bug inflated is to annoy me.

 Under GNU/Linux:

As the output says the program was unable to access the cpuid driver.
The cpuid driver requires administrative rights.

Bug#618901: coolkey: Doesn't work with Iceweasel or Epiphany

2011-03-19 Thread Marcelo E. Magallon
Package: coolkey
Version: 1.1.0-8
Severity: normal

This is probably a grave bug, but I want to confirm that there's
at least someone out there that can use the package.

After installing the epiphany-extensions package and enabling
the Certificates extension, going to the tools menu and
clicking on Manage Security Devices produces no dialog.

In Firefox, in the Security Devices dialog, I can go to the load
dialog, add /usr/lib/pkcs11/libcoolkeypk11.so and press OK, and
it says unable to load module.

My guess is that there's a dependency of coolkey that was
upgraded (pcsc looks like a good candiate to me), but the
package can't be rebuilt from source in sid, so my testing has
been very limited so far. The alternative is that there's some
configuration missing, but I haven't been able to figure out
 what.

 Thanks!

Bug#618902: knode: Disable automatic setting of Followup-To header for non-cross-posted articles

2011-03-19 Thread Thomas Hochstein
Package: knode
Version: 4:4.4.7-3
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream
Forwarded: https://bugs.kde.org/178208

knode will automatically set a Followup-To header to every posting,
even when it is not crossposted to more than one group, violating
a should not in RFC 5536 3.2.6.

That bug is not just cosmetical; there are real world problems
when posting to mailinglists gated to newsgroups (gmane.* and
linux.*), especially when one user is posting to gmane.X (with
automated superfluous Followup-To set to gmane.X) and another
user is reading that message on linux.X and trying to reply.

There are numerous reports on the upstream bug tracker, with
the most applicable one at https://bugs.kde.org/178208

The bug seems to be fixed with commit 1079182 in upstream's
SVN at http://websvn.kde.org/?revision=1079182view=revision
(dated 2010-01-23).

Bug#618903: empathy: I can't select video source for video chats

2011-03-19 Thread wzab

Package: empathy
Version: 2.30.3-1+b2
Severity: important

I use a system with multiple video input devices.
Unfortunately when I start the video chat, empathy automatically tries
to use the TV tuner as video input and freezes (due to format
incomaptibility?)
There is no settings window, in which I could select the video source
to be used with Empathy.

Bug#618904: openldap 2.4.23 slapd server process frequently hangs during everyday use

2011-03-19 Thread Mark Cave-Ayland
Package: slapd
Version: 2.4.23-7
Severity: critical
Tags: squeeze

After upgrading our LDAP server from lenny (2.4.11) to squeeze (2.4.23), we
have found
that the slapd process frequently hangs when adding new objects to the LDAP
tree. The
server freezes and will not accept any new connections until it is forcibly
terminated
with kill -9 and then the slapd process restarted.

When the slapd process has hung, I see the following backtrace in gdb:

(gdb) bt full

This suggests that there may be some kind of thread locking issue occurring
which is
causing the main process to hang.

I have raised this with upstream here:
http://www.openldap.org/lists/openldap-technical/201103/msg00175.html
and confirmed that the same issue occurs on a vanilla build of 2.4.23. Further
testing
here shows that issue appears to be resolved in 2.4.24.

This is an extremely critical DOS issue and means that Squeeze's 2.4.23
packages are
unusable in a production environment.

Bug#618905: references obsolete hal init script

2011-03-19 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: acpid
Version: 1:2.0.8-3
Severity: normal

Hi,

in hal 0.5.14-4 (wheezy) I changed it to use D-Bus activation so it is started
on
demand. That means there is no longer a hal sysv init script.

As a result:

1.) The Should-Start: hal in the acpid LSB header is no longer useful,
As it is not a fatal error though, you can safely keep it and it's just
a little cruft you are carrying around. I'd definitely drop it for
wheezy+1
2.) The postinst tries to restart hal if it find the init script.
I guess with acpid using netlink now this can be dropped completely?

Michael

You check out the git repository of pkg-boinc as described on

Thanks. That helped to reproduce the problem. You messed with the
pristine-tar branch:

I just hope that the renaming is ok in the first place.

I assumed it was online since I did not take it offline before the

running during the upgrade. I started evolution after the upgrade.
Yes, I use network-manager.

You're just using plain imap, no such thing as evolution-exchange/mapi?

Yes, I am using just plain imap.

 Regards,

Because I needed to have a working evolution, I downgraded to the
version in stable. The downgrade wasn't very easy as synaptic kept
wanting to uninstall packages like evolution-dbg and gnome-dbg and
libhtml3???, etc. then it would say I had broken packages, ...
Eventually, I was able to downgrade. I think at one point I had to
uninstall evolution and maybe a few other things like ekiga. Ekiga must
have had some dependency on something that had to be removed due to the
downgrades. After I downgraded, when I opened evolution, I noticed I
didn't have my saved local mail folders, they were all gone. I looked
at the date on the .evolution folder in my home directory and noticed
that it had a recent date and time that was sometime during the
upgrade/downgrade process. So, something during the upgrade/downgrade
process had deleted and recreated my .evolution directory. However,
evolution didn't go through the wizard process or anything as if there
were no .evolution directory. It shouldn't delete my local .evolution
directory if I upgrade or uninstall evolution or kill an unresponsive
evolution. So, I shut down evolution and got my previous .evolution
directory back from backup. I rebooted my computer to make sure nothing
was cached or anything. Then I started the downgraded evolution with
the restored .evolution directory and mail works now.

I have pinned the downgraded evolution to the version from stable.
Since it caused me so much grief and work, I am not very anxious to try
again. At least not on my main computer.

2011-03-19 Thread Gordon Haverland
Package: libvigraimpex3

Every once in a while when updating things, I've been seeing
a message from ldconfig, saying that /usr/lib/libvigrimpex.so.3

and diff says they are the same contents. I don't know if the .so.3

common. My apologies if things are supposed to be the way they are.

Bug#614765: liboss-salsa-asound2: dependencies problems with libasound2

2011-03-19 Thread Roberto Di Cosmo
liboss-salsa-asound2 tries to provide a replacement to libasound2
by declaring a Provides: libasound2 and a Conflicts: libasound2

Unfortunately, 1889 packages in squeeze absolutely need (we say 'strongly
depend on' [2]) the real package libasound2, and not the virtual one
(because the declared dependencies are versioned); actually, for the
same reason, a total of 2531 packages are incompatible (we say
'strongly conflict' [1]) with liboss-salsa-asound2.

On the other hand, there is *no* package that strongly depends on
liboss-salsa-asound2, so the problem is with liboss-salsa-asound2,
and not with the other packages.

I may humbly suggest one of two solutions:

 - either drop liboss-salsa-asound2

 - or change the metadata by simply allowing liboss-salsa-asound2 to
overwrite files belonging to libasound2 (if this is enough that
/usr/lib/libasound.so.2 is the one contained in this package for
   everything to work fine)

Hope this helps

algorithms for computing strong dependencies and strong conflicts
among packages, described in the papers [1] and [2] below.

Bug#618900: xserver-xorg-video-mga: does not work with MGA G100 chip

 $ sudo reboot
and computer do reboot, but I can not see what I am typing.

Or can I download and recompile lennys driver to work
 in squeeze?

Not really, you'd have to downgrade the whole X stack to lenny. Can you
please attach X logs from both lenny and squeeze to this bug for
comparison?

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#618733: x11-common: startx as non-root no longer working

2011-03-19 Thread Arno Schuring
Grumble. I apologize for the noise, I should have been more thorough.
Apparently somewhere in the mists of time, while trying to solve
things myself, I decided to hand-edit the startx script.

And while I did reinstall everything X-related, I apparently did not
reinstall xinit itself. A simple sh -x on the startx script showed that
it wasn't even trying to run /usr/bin/X...

That's a part of it, yes - you've submitted a partial patch which
doesn't implement enough support to work fully on pretty much all modern
 systems.

It fixes a FTBFS bug though, which makes important a reasonable
severity for this.

However, we respect your opinion about this being wishlist for now and
will likely ship the x86info package in a seperate repository for your
users until the patch is acceptable for inclusion according to your
standards.

When I said I hadn't rejected the patch that's exactly what I meant. If
I had no intention at all of applying the patch I'd just have closed the
report.

No, sorry. We just package the software as provided by upstream and
normally don't replace specific LaTeX package by newer versions. If
you urgently need that new version please install it into your local

I tag your bug as fixed in upstream, we'll close it when packaging TL

Bug#614765: liboss-salsa-asound2: dependencies problems with libasound2

2011-03-19 Thread Samuel Thibault
Roberto Di Cosmo, le Sat 19 Mar 2011 14:46:01 +0100, a écrit :
liboss-salsa-asound2 tries to provide a replacement to libasound2
 by declaring a Provides: libasound2 and a Conflicts: libasound2

Yes. And fails to, that's a known wontfix issue.

Unfortunately, yes.

On the other hand, there is *no* package that strongly depends on
 liboss-salsa-asound2,

Sure, since in principle people use alsa, not oss-under-alsa (they
should be fixed into simply using oss instead, if they did).

so the problem is with liboss-salsa-asound2, and not with the other
 packages.

Agreed, but still wontfix.

I may humbly suggest one of two solutions:

  - either drop liboss-salsa-asound2

Why? It can be useful in the cases where it can be installed. And we
_do_ need it on kfreebsd hurd.

  - or change the metadata by simply allowing liboss-salsa-asound2 to
overwrite files belonging to libasound2 (if this is enough that
/usr/lib/libasound.so.2 is the one contained in this package for
everything to work fine)

The libasound.so.2 provided by libsalsa clearly doesn't provide enough
support for everything to work fine: the announced compatibility is only
1.0.5, and there's no seq support.

So yes, it provides poor support for Linux, but that's an upstream lack
of feature, and not a reason for dropping it completely.

Samuel

Bug#618799: libvigraimpex: unacceptably slow on mips

2011-03-19 Thread Jakub Wilk
For a reason on another the attached program[0] is disturbingly slow on
gabrielli.debian.org. It takes 74 seconds to run it; even my qemu mips
machine (600 bogomips) is ca. 10 times faster.

Dear mips porters:
- Could you test speed of the program on other mips hardware?
- Do you have any ideas what could be the cause of such a bad
efficiency?

[0] To compile it, you need to have libvigraimpex-dev installed, but no
special compiler flags are needed.
