Bug#625528: kdm-greeter segfauklt with some /etc/passwd files

2011-05-03 Thread Erwan David
Package: kdm

Ok, the more I think about it, the more I'd find it useful to be able to
just drop a preseed file in a usb key along with kernel/initrd and be
able to use it.

hd-media doesn't fit because that means having a complete mirror of what
you want on the key (since it won't be able to install from a http
mirror) and you need to have the usb key plugged in for the whole
install (it's alway more practical to be able to just remove the key
once it has booted, and in cases like you have a lot of install running
in parallel it means you can just have once key for all of them).

Adding the preseed files to the initramfs means you have to rebuild it
each time the installed is updated or you change the preseed file, which
is a bit painful.

file-preseed udeb is just 24kb installed (3.8kb for the package, meaning
it compresses just fine in the initramfs) so I guess it's not too much
of a space problem.

All in all it's not a huge problem, there are workarounds, but it'd be
really convenient, imho.

Thanks for your work and consideration.

Are you sure this is related? I find strange a recent version of xorg is
still not fixed

No, it's not something possible to cherry-pick as it is based on symbol
versioning from version 2.14. Also it only really apply to binary-only
distribution, in Debian as soon as your rebuild the package, it will use
the new 2.14 symbols, and memcpy instead of memmove.

I don't think we can really keep a version in experimental just for
that. And reverting that patch means nobody will complain, and issues
will never be fixed.

It used to be every 6 months (so around september), but it is not sure
it continues to be like that.

Let's say you have 500 servers, then you get 500
useless warning emails for no valid reasons. Yes,
that's quite annoying, and I do believe worth an
update for large installations. Patching by had is
even more a

What's your argument against the update if not
Julien the worthyness, which I believe is a mater

Bug#625527: fdupes: progress reports written to stderr

2011-05-03 Thread Andre Majorel
Package: fdupes
Version: 1.50-PR2-2
Severity: minor
Tags: upstream

The progress messages ("Building file list" + twirling baton) are
written to standard error. Thus, when logging the output of
fdupes (fdupes >fdupes.log 2>&1), you either run with -q and
have no progress reports or get progress noise in the log.

Progress messages should be written to the controlling terminal
(/dev/tty).

It's apparently an inconvenience to our users, and fixable with
a trivial patch. Are there arguments against it going into the next

Hum, typo I guess. You need "Replaces: libimobiledevice1" in
libimobiledevice2.

In fact only the second one is really needed. dpkg deals correctly with
upgrade of libimobiledevice1.

Bug#625472: expeyes-doc-en and expeyes-doc: error when trying to install together

2011-05-03 Thread Georges Khaznadar
Hello Ralf,

thank you for your quick feedback!

I just uploaded a new revision to fix this bug.

The hardware implementing expEYES can be assembled anywhere as per the
free license of the design. It is currently made by Indian companies,
and will be available through Hackable Devices soon.

Please would you know some people willing to translate the User Manual
to your language? This would be most appreciated.

Best regards, Georges.

By the way, in principle that might be a nice commit to cherry-pick.

Not sure how to do it safely, though --- backing out the amd64
optimization would hide important bugs that can cause suffering later,
while applying upstream's fix would mean that apps linked against libc
would use new ABI.

I guess reverting glibc-2.13~215 (Improve 64bit memcpy/memmove for
Atom, Core 2 and Core i7, 2010-06-30) in sid (but not experimental)
and encouraging people to test libc6/experimental might be a good way.

Do you know how soon upstream's planning to release 2.14?

Oh my word. So glibc 2.13 breaks random binaries that happened to
incorrectly use memcpy() instead of memmove()? What's wrong with the
glibc developers (and Ulrich Drepper in particular)?

I'm with Linus on this: let's just revert to the old behaviour. A
tiny amount of clock cycles saved isn't worth the instability.

Thanks,
-Steve

P.S. I tried rebuilding glibc myself locally, but gcc also segfaults
in the process :-(

FYI, I've checked and noticed some potential problems on many of my mbox files
used for evolution storage.

So, I've used formail -ds to "repair" them, after removing all index files,
hoping it would improve the situation. Will see how it goes.

My 2 cents,

I've implemented a different change, but it should also fix the issue
at hand. I'll be requesting an update to the P-a-s entries.

The portability fixes I introduced some time ago allow svgalib to use
the framebuffer if the I/O drivers are not buildable.

Well, I don't think this bug RC, as the package has never been built
there. Anyway packages on their way to the archive now.

Bug#591817: llvm 2.8

Aha!

Thank you. I will get my packages updated for this. I was depending on
the custom-compiled llvm2.8 and I didn't really like it.

I'll also need a new mentor/sponsor for this, but I'll check on
#debian-ruby and #debian-mentors.

Thanks,

The error seen at installation is fixed with 3.5.19-2. But the

Bug#625520: unbound: Not binNMUable for default python version change

2011-05-03 Thread Scott Kitterman
Package: unbound
Version: 1.4.9-2
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Currently unbound will FTBFS once the default Python version is switched to
python2.7 (which will happen during the wheezy development cycle). The
attached patch will make it so unbound will not FTBFS and can be updated to
the new default via binNMU.

Bug#625518: foomatic: please document PPD format

2011-05-03 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Package: foomatic-db-engine
Version: 4.0.7-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: upstream

Hi,

I was looking to track down a bug experienced using the driver [1], from
the point of view of ghostscript. In that PPD, I see:

| *FoomaticIDs: Samsung-ML-1020 gdi
| *FoomaticRIPCommandLine: "gs -q -dBATCH -dPARANOIDSAFER -dQUIET -dNOPA&&
| USE -sDEVICE=gdi%A%Z -sOutputFile=-%C -f - | perl -p -e '%E'&&
| "

So I wondered: what is the command line actually used? In particular, I
wanted to know what would be substitued for %A and %Z.

| $ man ppd
| No manual entry for ppd
| $ man -s 5 -k foomatic
| $

What I am dreaming of is a short foomatic-ppd(5) page explaining that
the format is based on Adobe's PPD format and listing extensions. That
way, the documentation could fill out over time, and it would be easier
for people to see where to look to learn the basics in the meantime.

The package this is filed against is a wild guess; please feel free to
reassign if I got it wrong.

What do you think? Would that make sense? Any idea where one can get
that information today, in order to start?

Regards,
Jonathan

Yes, you are 100% right - this warning seems harmless though annoying.

I seems like most (if not all) distributions are treating it more like a
suggestion.

In http://code.google.com/p/aceracpi/wiki/SupportedHardware in the
Unsupported Acer Aspire section

"One series - But the WMI implementation on this laptop doesn't actually
do anything"

I don't see how both statements can be true simultaneously. Because it
quite literally doesn't do anything--straight from the words of the
developer himself--and ends up breaking wireless, it makes sense to
blacklist it on all Aspire One models.

Bug#625516: miro: download process using excessive CPU on older hardware

2011-05-03 Thread clayton
Package: miro
Version: 3.5.1-2
Severity: normal

With the recent new miro, or new versions of Python that came down
almost at the same time, I am seeing a dramatic degradation in
performance efficiency. Before, on my Thinkpad x24, downloading podcasts
on miro would maybe use 10-20% CPU. Now I am consistently seeing maxed
out CPU, in the 80-100% range, JUST WHILE DOWNLOADING. In fact,
downloading a video in miro is now consuming more CPU then playing the
video after it is downloaded. This is more then a nuisance, as this
machine also has over-heating problems.

Bug#625515: sudoedit clears password/timeout ticket on debian 6.0.1

2011-05-03 Thread Jared Spiegel
Package: sudo
Version: 1.7.4p4-2.squeeze.2
Severity: important

on debian 6.0.1, sudoedit(8) seems to clear the "you have entered your password
more recently than $timestamp_timeout" ticket. it does honour existing
tickets, but it seems to unconditionally clear them upon exit.

example, executing all the following with less than $timestamp_timeout between
commands:

# sudo -l

# sudo -l

# sudo -l

# sudoedit somefile

# sudo -l

i tried this on two different 6.0.1 systems with the same results.
also tried on a 5.0.8 system for control (same sudoers(5) file as 6.0.1)
and sudoedit(8) does not clear the password as reported here.

/etc/sudoers.d is not "includedir"ed in our config.

Bug#625514: gdm3: Cannot remove old locales from list at login

2011-05-03 Thread rypervenche
Package: gdm3
Version: 2.30.5-6squeeze2
Severity: important
Tags: l10n

Languages are not refreshed to show the current locales of the system. I have
had it once where I had 2 English and 2 Chinese language choices on my gdm3
login screen, but had since removed the unnecessary locales.

screenshot:
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c211/Rypervenche/GNULinux/xephyr.jpg

I also messed with my fonts.dtd file and I got this language choice (I think
it's C), I have since replaced my fonts.dtd with the original, however this
choice has not left gdm3.

Bug#625513: gpa: After creating a new key the expiration date differs from the one that was selected

2011-05-03 Thread Siddharta Buda - Hotmail

Package: gpa
Version: 0.9.0-1

I was creating several test keys without submitting them to any server.
I noticed that using the "Expires" checkbox is not working correctly as
the resulting date is different from the one originally selected. At
first I thought it was my fault, so I created a new key and set it to
expire at 2011-07-16, but the resulting key had the expiration date set
to 2011-06-16 (exactly one month of difference). I created a new key and
set the expiration date to 2012-12-31 and the resulting key was set to
never expire.

I am able to select any key and change its expiration date using the
"Change expiration" button and the calendar. The process works correctly
and the expiration date is the same to the one selected in the calendar.

The contents of the ~/.gnupg/gpa.conf file is:

$ cat ~/.gnupg/gpa.conf
default-key A080A184A810264AA823A13A8A08174A8528AAA0
advanced-ui
show-advanced-options
detailed-view

(Note the default key is a fake one, I modified to include it in this email)

I chose "Normal" priority to report this bug as the keys seem to work
fine: I encrypted/decrypted several files and clipboard texts; I also
signed some files, and extract those signatures from them. Everything
worked fine.

I'm using Debian 6 (squeeze) amd64 on an HP G70-463CL laptop computer.
XFCE is my only Desktop Environment.

Bug#618285: xserver-xorg: X server freezes (nouveau driver)

This problem occurred again. This time I was using an external monitor.
First the mouse pointer started to behave abnormally: it was slow to
move, on the external monitor it was randomly changing shape, and on
the laptop screen it was invisible. When I wanted to quit the X server,
the image was showing the root window and was no longer updated.

I could ssh the machine and saw that the Xorg process was no longer
running (but the screens were still showing the root window of Xorg).
I found no other solution than rebooting the machine.

Bug#613490: Attempting to Troubleshoot: More Info Requested

2011-05-03 Thread Scott Schaefer

I am starting to look into this, and have two questions:

1) Can you tell me the precise commansd you are using ? i.e. Does
"Generating small DHs" mean:

openssl dhparam -outform DER -5 -out parameters.dh # for
=256,512,1024,2048,4096

2) You reference an 8-minute difference to "former openssl version". Am
I correct in assuming, since you were using 0.9.8o-5 from sid, that
"former version" = 0.9.80-4squeeze1 ??

It's for different hardware. You can't choose between the drivers.

No, it says that it *is* blacklisted - which is true for some specific
Aspire One models. However, the code also has specific support for many
other Aspire One models.

Did the driver work on this hardware in earlier kernel versions?

Ben.

Bug#625512: xauth should have an option to wait for the lock to be released

2011-05-03 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Package: xauth
Version: 1:1.0.5-1
Severity: wishlist

I did two ssh to the same machine at the same time, with the
consequence for one of them:

xauth: error in locking authority file /home/vinc17/.Xauthority

It would be better if xauth had an option to wait for the lock
to be released (with a timeout) instead of returning an error.

This would avoid to have to find a workaround, such as writing
a wrapper that does a real blocking lock.

Bug#625510: Broadcom 802.11 driver missing from 2.6.39-rc[45]

2011-05-03 Thread Erich Schubert
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.39~rc5-1~experimental.1
Severity: normal
Tags: experimental

The driver for my other laptops broadcom BCM4313 seems to be missing.

Comparing the config files:
/boot/config-2.6.38-2-686:CONFIG_BRCM80211=m
/boot/config-2.6.38-2-686:CONFIG_BRCM80211_PCI=y
/boot/config-2.6.38-2-686:# CONFIG_BRCMFMAC is not set
/boot/config-2.6.39-rc5-686-pae:CONFIG_BRCM80211=m
/boot/config-2.6.39-rc5-686-pae:# CONFIG_BRCMSMAC is not set
/boot/config-2.6.39-rc5-686-pae:# CONFIG_BRCMFMAC is not set
/boot/config-2.6.39-rc5-686-pae:# CONFIG_BRCMDBG is not set

I wonder if maybe BRCMSMAC is the appropriate option now. A short search
revealed a patch to remove CONFIG_BRCM80211 "since [...] renamed to brcmsmac".
Could you enable that option for the next upload? Thanks.
(Not sure what the "full-mac cards" are that the BRCMFMAC driver is for. There
I saw something that you could not have SMAC und FMAC as module at the same
time (well, actually a patch that removes such a comment), but nothing yet of
the benefits of one over the other. Apparently fmac does more in the hardware
of the wireless card, but offering less features. Anyway, you could try
enabling both, unless there is some hint that this doesn't work?

Thank you for all your work on Debian!

Bug#625509: python-debian: please port to Py3k

2011-05-03 Thread Tshepang Lekhonkhobe
Package: python-debian
Version: 0.1.20
Severity: normal

Can you either make this package capable of running for Python 2 and 3,
or make separate packages for it, as python-apt does.

For one, python-apt disables at least one of its tests because of this
lack. Also, I would like to use it in wajig, whose next upload should
be Py3k-powered (port lives in VCS).

Bug#623747: bug 623747 svgalib: FTBS on armel

2011-05-03 Thread peter green
Note: I write this message to the bug as a concerned user of freepascal
in debian.

Currently in debian the svgalib packages themselves are marked as being
for architectures linux-any and kfreebsd-any but packages-arch-specific
restricts building on the buildds to i386 and amd64. Further at least on
armel the current source FTBFS.

The submitter of this bug has supplied a patch and with that patch
applied svgalib compiles on armel.

The lack of svgalib packages on armel is currently rendering
fp-units-gfx-2.4.2 uninstallable on armel. Afaict uninstallable packages
are a RC issue.

I see two ways of fixing the uninstallability.

1: apply the patch the submitter of this bug supplied and change
packages-arch-specific allow the buildds to build svgalib on armel (and
possiblly other architectures).
2: modify the freepascal packaging to eliminate the dependency on the
nonexistant binary package

What i'm not sure on is which is the correct path. I know there have
been arm boxes that use PC graphics hardware in the past but I don't
know if they are compatible with svgalib or indeed whether they are
compatible with the debian armel port.

Depending on the responses I get I will either raise the severity of
this bug or file a new rc bug against fp-units-gfx-2.4.2

FWIW: as soon as I finish guile-2.0 (next on the list), and get it into

I'm going to start the archive removal process for guile-1.6.

I wonder if the move of the .so files fixes the problem for everyone.
Any idea? More generally, what do you think would be the correct
solution at this point wrt Guile 1.8?

Thanks for the help

Bug#625507: acer-wmi: acer-wmi kernel module causes wireless to not work

2011-05-03 Thread Zachary Buhman
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.38-3
Severity: normal
File: acer-wmi
Tags: patch

I'm on an Acer Aspire One 721-3574.

The symptom was that I couldn't enable wireless with any of the usual tricks.
After doing a bit of research and (days) of playing, I finally figured out that
for whatever reason, the acer_wmi kernel module was soft blocking every
wireless card on the laptop (external usb nic's too).

I've pasted an example session here:
http://paste.pound-python.org/show/6077/

acer-wmi is obviously buggy, doesn't seem to provide much utility, and causes
more trouble than it solves. My suggestion is to blacklist it in wheezy until
the problem is fixed

I have used python-apt to implement this and would appreciate testing
before upload to Debian, so please update your clone and report back

Bug#168201: Bug Not Found -- Incorrect Cause or More Info Required

2011-05-03 Thread Scott Schaefer
Based on my reading of the code, your SSL_xmit() routine never calls
into the SSL library code if size==0.

While I appreciate your report that adding the lines ...
if (size == 0) // PTB fight new openssl bug
  return 0;

... "cured the problem", I believe you/someone will need to demonstrate
how any SSL lib function is invoked in the code below, EVEN WITHOUT THE
ADDED LINES.

Premise #1: There are only two SSL lib entry points:
a) result = SSL_write(con, tbuf+off, len);
b) result = SSL_read(con, tbuf+off, len);

Premise #2:
Your SSL_xmit() is called from two places. In both cases:
   con != 0
   size >= 0
(Other constraints/assertions are not required in this discussion)

Premise #3
SSL_xmit() returns -1 if buf == 0, regardless of (other) inputs

Thus, because size >= 0, len >= 0

Premise #5
SSL_xmit() initializes variables 'result', 'tot', and 'off' to zero
It also len = size.
No other statements preceding 'while (len > 0) { ...' have any side
effects.

Thus, at while (len > 0) {, all of the following are true:
result=0
tot=0
off=0
len >= 0   /* because input size >= 0 */

Premise #6
If size==0, execution continues at end of while, identical to exit:
label
Since result=0, statement 'return result' is executed and function
returns.,

I am open to demonstration the above logic is flawed.

In absence of such demonstration, either something is missing from your
report, or the problem lies outside of SSL lib code.

Bug#625506: /etc/xen/scripts/network-bridge script fails with additional bridges

2011-05-03 Thread Moonwalker
Package: xen-utils-common
Version: 4.1.0~rc6-1

Recently I had troubles with creating more than one network bridge for my domU.
For example, I have 2 domU running with xenbr0 bridge for both with peth0 and
two vif#.0 interfaces in it. Everything is fine.
Now I need to run another one domU with a different bridge attached to a
different interface. I'm trying to bring up a new bridge manually (before I
change any config files or networking scripts):
/etc/xen/scripts/network-bridge start bridge=xenbr1 netdev=dummy0
But... If I already have xenbr0 up and running it will not work (and the script
terminates absolutely silently, damn). It appears that the following statement
in /etc/xen/scripts/network-bridge script causes such behaviour:
if [ `brctl show | wc -l` != 1 ]; then
return
fi
It seems that something is completely wrong here. Why should it check in a such
way (counting command output lines, LOL) for _any_ bridges presence, not a
specific one passed to the script?
With this condition removed the second bridge is created and brought up just as
expected.

FWIW, just changing python-all-dev to python-dev (without other source
changes) will also make it FTBFS in some non-minimal environments,
thanks to stupidity of python_distutils.pm.

python-all-dev will pull in all supported python versions, but canto only uses

build a little faster. Also it will make it easier for us to detect when it
needs a binNMU for python transitions.

Bug#625502: O: qt-x11-free -- Qt GUI Library

2011-05-03 Thread Ana Guerrero
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

kdelibs3 was removed recently from the archive and the last tiny bit
of KDE 3 remaining, aRts, will be removed quite soon.

This means the KDE team is not longer interested in Qt3 and we are looking
for new maintainer(s).

More information at:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2011/05/msg00056.html

Adopting Qt3 require skills and time since you would have to do the upstream
work. Consider carefully this before adopting Qt3.

I think this one got fixed somewhere along the way. At least building 2.0.0

Beside that I'm of course happy that we've seen so many mails to d-d-a and
elsewhere telling us that using gold is now a release goal. (I spare it out
to CC doko because I doubt he'll care anyway about someone ranting on his
comunication)

Talking about the GCC 4.6 “*RC bugs*”, I got one other report telling that
Debian's GCC 4.6.1 will introduce more failures. Then why do we need to act in
emergency and fix all the 4.6.0 bugs within 7 days ? Can't you tolerate us to
collate both transitions, without having to put placeholders bugs in the BTS ?

I still do not understand why pressure is given to answer in 7 days, which is
at most one full week-end, for non-urgent issues. We lose energy, trying to be
too much ahead of upstream's work. I read a lot of complains on -devel that
the manpower is short for the release, but please consider that it is short
elsewhere as well. Please chose carefully your words in a way that does not
call for wasting it.

Cheers,

For a customer site, we need to be able to install apache2-mpm-prefork
and apache2-mpm-worker at the same time. Currently, this doesn't work
because of the Conflicts and hence the APACHE_HTTPD is of no use for
us.

We will most likely be using backports from backports.debian.org, so
we would even benefit from 2.2 packages that are co-installable. At
the moment we have to use patched packages which we would like to
avoid.

I'm putting Martin Zobel-Helas on Cc who is working with the customer.
I won't have time for the next weeks to work on this, maybe he can
provide a patch.

Bug#625500: Acknowledgement (developer.php: lists my packages for Kees Meijs)

2011-05-03 Thread Jon Dowland
This must be a cookies/local code problem.

I'm seeing most of my packages on any developer page I visit, e.g.
http://qa.debian.org/developer.php?login=direct...@apebox.org&comaint=yes

If I use a fresh browser instance (or incognito) I don't see them.

Weird!

Ha, then you're happy. Just remove tracker-miner-evolution.

I just packaged a snapshot of 2.0.4 which should soon be released. The
package has version number 2.0.3-2 which does not match the result of
swig -version. I am too tired to fix this now and it will righten itself
when upstream releases 2.0.4

I was able to build the znc bindings with this SWIG package (after
removing the SSLv2 code).

Greetings, Torsten

Bug#625498: cron: Cron does not check permissions of linked file when symlink is first created

2011-05-03 Thread Karl O. Pinc
Package: cron
Version: 3.0pl1-116
Severity: normal

Hi,

Files in /etc/cron.d that have group write permissions will
not have their cronjobs run but if /etc/cron.d/ contains
a symlink to a file with group write permissions the cron
jobs in that file are run. After the content of the file
is changed cron will then refuse to run the jobs.

The following script demonstrates the problem:

--
# Tidy up before we start.
rm -f /etc/cron.d/foo /tmp/foo
sleep 60

# Establish crontab
cat - >/tmp/foo

Bug#625495: cron: Cron does not recover well from a BAD INODE INFO error

2011-05-03 Thread Karl O. Pinc
Package: cron
Version: 3.0pl1-116
Severity: normal

Hi,

When cron finds a crontab file has the wrong permissions
(and perhaps the wrong owner, I didn't check) it refuses
to execute the cronjobs in that file until the file
is deleted and re-created. It is not enough to
correct the problem and touch the file.

This makes diagnosing and fixing the problem more difficult.

The following script demonstrates the problem:

# Tidy up before we start.
rm -f /etc/cron.d/foo /tmp/foo
sleep 60

# Establish crontab
cat - >/etc/cron.d/foo

Ah. That's because it has an entier mtn database in it, as part of the
database_dump_load test.

The failure in automate_certs is in the very start of the test;
mtn_setup. That same code is executed in most of the other tests,
successfully.

So this looks like an intermittent error on the host.

You can run just this test by:

cd BASEDIR
./run_func_tests automate_certs

If that fails consistently, but

./run_func_tests automate_cert

passes, there is something very mysterious going on.

For the database_dump_load test, the file compare is failing. We'd have
to run that test by hand, and compare the two files with a hex dump or
something, to see what's wrong.

I am not sure what problem you want to solve, exactly. AFAIK, there is
no package that exclusively depends on a threaded MPM. Therefore, you
can simply install apache2-mpm-prefork and have no dependency
problems. For each instance, you can still use whatever MPM you want
via the APACHE_HTTPD variable in the /etc/apache-xxx/envvars file. Am
I missing something? Or should the documentation be clearer?

In any case, Apache httpd 2.4 will have MPMs as dynamic modules, which
will likely result in the apache2-mpm-* packages going away
completely. Therefore, I don't want to spend any effort on those
packages.

Bug#625494: ldap-utils: ldapadd not accepting the -y option

2011-05-03 Thread Dean Rantala
Package: ldap-utils
Version: 2.4.23-7
Severity: normal

Passing the -y option (read password from file) causes failure to bind.

Example:

ldapadd -x -D 'cn=admin,dc=example,dc=com' -y /etc/pam_ldap.secret < input.ldif

However, the following will work:

ldapadd -x -D 'cn=admin,dc=example,dc=com' -w `cat /etc/pam_ldap.secret` <
input.ldif

Regarding my pam_ldap.secret file:

1) It is owned by root
2) It has permissions 600 set
3) It has no cr/lf at the end of the file (double checked with a hex editor)
4) I am running these commands as root

This currently causes ldapscripts to fail as well

I removed the files and rebooted. Nothing changed: I still cannot switch
to the non-US layout, and none of the options have been taken into
account (compose key, etc.).

At reboot, I get an error message when the keymap and console are
supposed to be initialized:

Bad number of antecedents at /usr/bin/ckbcomp line 3078, line 372.

It is the same message if I remove the cached_* files and run setupcon
from the console.

Please tell me if I can test something else to help.

Well, to be blunt, the transient policy has been in place for about 5
years now. This is the current practice and policy of the RMs, so I

Yes. If a maintainer is taking more that for a *RC* bug fix, then they
*should* keep the buglog updated with status.

Bug#625492: Errors preventing crontab execution should be logged at higher priority

2011-05-03 Thread Karl O. Pinc
Package: cron
Version: 3.0pl1-116
Severity: normal

Hi,

Files in /etc/cron.d that have group write permissions will
not have their cronjobs run. I configured /etc/rsyslog.conf
with the line:

cron.notice /var/log/cron.log

and the log message that indicates there is a problem did
not get logged. This means to me that the message is
being logged at the INFO priority.

I believe that log messages which indicate that cron jobs
are not running should be logged at WARN or above. This
would make it a lot simpler to seprate out the cronjob start/stop
messages from more serious problems.

(Note: I did not test the message that results
when a file is not owned by root which reports
WRONG FILE OWNER. It may also be reported at too low
a priority.)

The following script generates the log message:
---
# Tidy up before we start.
rm -f /etc/cron.d/foo /tmp/foo
sleep 60

# Establish crontab
cat - >/etc/cron.d/foo <-

Bug#624129: problems with kernel/watchdog.c: always return NOTIFY_OK during cpu up/down events e.g. "BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 63s!"

Could you boot with nmi_watchdog=0 and when you get a shell prompt, run
something like

perf top OR
perf record grep -r foo /*

I am curious to know if this is lockup detector related or the perf
subystem related.

Cheers,
Don

OK, with 2.6.39-rc5-git4:

$ cat /proc/cmdline

BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-2.6.39-rc5-git4
root=UUID=96c96a61-8615-4715-86d0-09cb8c62638c ro lapic
nmi_watchdog=0

Once I'd installed linux-tools-2.6.39, perf ran fine and I've
attached the perf.data output.

Thanks. I assume no softlockup warnings showed up after running the perf
command?

Cheers,
Don

Correct, no soft lockups warnings after running the perf command.

Arthur.
