Bug#653472: /usr/bin/git-import-dsc: git-import-dsc: does not remove debian/ from upstream for source 3.0 (quilt) packages
Hi, On Wed, Dec 28, 2011 at 06:31:22PM +0100, Ansgar Burchardt wrote: git-import-dsc does not remove debian/ from upstream for source 3.0 (quilt) packages. I imported parcellite_1.0.2~rc3-1.dsc (from unstable) and then parcellite_1.0.2~rc5-1.dsc (from mentors.d.n). After this additional files appeared in debian/ that are not in the .debian.tar.gz, but in the .orig.tar.gz: It shouldn't remove any files at all. If upstream ships a debian/ directory it should be imported as is. If something different is needed there's a filter option. Can you provide download links so I can try to reproduce this? Bug#653408: [Debian-med-packaging] Bug#653408: [ITR] templates://biomaj/{templates}
Le 12/29/11 8:53 AM, Christian PERRIER a écrit : Dear Debian maintainer, The Debian internationalisation team and the Debian English localisation team will soon begin the review of the debconf templates used in biomaj. This review takes place for all packages that use debconf to interact with users and its aims are: - to improve the use of English in all debconf templates; - to make the wording of debconf templates more consistent; - to encourage more translations of templates. Even if your first language is English, this process is likely to help track down typos or errors, and improve consistency between the debconf templates of your package and that of other packages in the distribution. The process involves both debian-l10n-english contributors and Debian translators. The details of the process are given in http://wiki.debian.org/I18n/SmithDebconfReviewProcess. I will act as the coordinator of this activity for biomaj. The first step of the process is to review the debconf source template file(s) of biomaj. This review will start on Sunday, January 01, 2012, or as soon as you acknowledge this mail with an agreement for us to carry out this process. All parts of the process will be carried out in close collaboration with you, and, unless you explicitely ask for it, no upload nor NMU will happen for biomaj. If you approve this process, please let us know by replying to this mail. If some work in progress on your side would conflict with such a rewrite (such as adding or removing debconf templates), please say so, and we will defer the review to later in the development cycle. Process can go. However I started to update templates file to add longer description to the fields. I join the file if you want to. Else, file is up-to-date on Alioth SVN. Bug#649235: [Pkg-ime-devel] Bug#649235: ibus-sunpinyin: please depend on/recommend python-glade2
Hi, Wait a moment... please. My mail had 2 points. * bug needs to be responded and dealt properly. (This is the primary point) * bug seems easy if it is only to add dependency. (This was a small point) This second point should have had some qualifier stating If this is really a bug and bug reporter is right, ... I did not check this in detail when I posted message. My guts feeling is python-gtk2 dependency is enough since we are not using glade to create UI interface from this dialogue. ibus-anthy, ibus-sunpinyin, ibus-pinyin, ... : all depends on ibus ibus depends on ibus-python ibus-python depends on python-gtk2 So we are OK with dependency. other ibus input engine, such as ibus-pinyin, put ibus-engine-* and ibus-setup-* in /usr/lib directory too. Bug#653609: CgiHowto does not have correct instructions for munin-html
Package: munin Version: 1.999.4508-1 Severity: normal Tags: experimental The instructions on http://munin-monitoring.org/wiki/CgiHowto for the munin-cgi-html feature are not accurate for a number of reasons: 1. The paths are wrong. There seems to be a disconnect between the new default apache.conf file and the HOWTO. The default apache.conf wants to go to /var/cache/munin/www/static for the static images, which is actually wrong, so the HOWTO's Alias is correct in this case. However, the Rewrites to /cgi-bin/munin-cgi-html is unneccesary if there is going to be an Alias to /munin-cgi. See my apache.conf below. 2. RewriteEngine will not turn on unless it's turned on from the VirtualHost statement. Per http://httpd.apache.org/docs/current/mod/mod_rewrite.html#vhosts: By default, mod_rewrite configuration settings from the main server context are not inherited by virtual hosts. To make the main server settings apply to virtual hosts, you must place the following directives in each VirtualHost section: RewriteEngine On RewriteOptions Inherit This was driving me crazy until I saw this and put the two statements in my VirtualHost entry. Everything worked after that. 3. It recommends commenting out the munin-html line. As you can see from the last line of this email, Debian doesn't really like that. Bug#653073: bug#10363: /etc/mtab - /proc/mounts symlink affects df(1) output for
So this is a special case of a general problem with no easy solution: What should df do when 2 filesystems are mounted at the same location? It can't easily give correct information for both of them, since the later mount obscures the earlier mount from view. It is a special case of an even more general problem, that mtab or /proc/self/mounts and therefore mount(8), df(1) etc. only represent the linear path where a filesystem was mounted at the time it was mounted, not the underlying tree structure. What happens with the following sequences, assuming / is the only mounted filesystem: mkdir /mnt/p1 mount /dev/sde1 /mnt/p1 mkdir /mnt/p1/p2 mount /dev/sdh1 /mnt/p1/p2 versus mkdir -p /mnt/p1/p2 mount /dev/sdh1 /mnt/p1/p2 mount /dev/sde1 /mnt/p1 not that that would be very useful, but in general it is possible. In the second case the filesystem on sdh1 is completely invisible, yet mtab and /proc/mounts in both cases contain something like /dev/sde1 /mnt/p1 ... /dev/sdh1 /mnt/p1/p2 ... only in different order: the last mounted filesystem comes last. This way df(1) should already be able to just hide any obscured filesystem: it could make two passes over the mount list, remembering every mount point and if a later mount point is equal or a parent of an earlier one (which can be determined by a simple string compare), mark the earlier one as invisible. Then in the second pass over the list output the remaining mounts. Remains the question whether this is correct in all cases and actually desirable behaviour. I think the latter is true, because df(1) output is just a snapshot of how the system looks like to a newly created process, and a newly created process can't access the obscured filesystems at all. (The fact that /proc/mounts is a symlink to /proc/self/mounts hints in the same direction.) If what's really wanted is the status of all mounted filesystems whether visible or not, I fear this can't be done without kernel help, because exactly by the snapshot as seen by a new process nature you don't get a handle to statfs() from the obscured parts. They can be found by looking in /sys/block or /proc/diskstats but there doesn't seem to be useful info, perhaps just another sysfs file containing the statfs() output would already suffice. Or perhaps just propose that one of the three nearly-identical /proc/self/mount* files get two additional columns with the info df(1) needs... Bug#405702: sdl-net1.2 bug #405702 fixed long ago
2011/12/29 Ulrich Eckhardt dooms...@knuut.de: On Thursday 29 December 2011 01:20:43 you wrote: Sorry for the big delay, there are new efforts to try to maintain SDL packages in better shape. This bug seems to have been fixed long ago (Thu Apr 20 16:48:25 2006 +, about 9 months before this Debian bug report was submitted), in this commit upstream: http://hg.libsdl.org/SDL_net/rev/8551dd6a2235 There is one thing that strikes me though, and that is that I only consider the fix above as a workaround, not as a fix. There are problems with it: 1. the ignored signal is ignored process-wide This means that other code which relies on the signal being raised will fail when libSDL switches the process to ignoring it. 2. the signal is not ignored if a handler is in place If other areas actually registered a handler, the signal will not be ignored, the code in SDL checks this. This could mean that SDL then again starts to fail (I don't think so though). 3. the wrong handler is restored if the signal was ignored If the calling code ignored the signal process-wide, SDL will not ignore it again, but when uninitialized it will again switch it to the default, while the remaining code might still rely on it being ignored. What I don't get is why send() isn't simply called with MSG_NOSIGNAL as I suggested. I switched to dropping SDL_net and creating my own network wrapper doing just that and I never had problems again. I can't provide proper tests though, since I have abandoned that code altogether. Sorry, I didn't link the bug report in the previous e-mail, which sheds more light into this decision: http://bugzilla.libsdl.org/show_bug.cgi?id=121 As I understand it, Sam Latinga would prefert to use, in order: 1) BSD's SO_NOSIGPIPE socket option, but it's not (was not?) available in Linux; 2) your proposed MSG_NOSIGNAL, which probably it's not (was not?) available in non-Linux systems; 3) so SIG_IGN is the last resort working portably without complicating things from his POV, and at that point in time. (Maybe there are better solutions now?). As you most probably know, in Debian we have Linux, FreeBSD and GNU Hurd kernels, so this is a direct concern for us, too. Althought supporting both options with #ifdefs is probably not much code and would give the best possible solution in each platform, maybe the result is inconsistent between systems and the code using SDL_net would have to forcibly cope with these differences when using different Unix kernels, so probably he just wanted to abstract differences away with SDL_net. Probably the majority of projects using SDL_net favour multiplatformness rather than perfect control of network conditions, and indeed maybe many of them actually do not care about Unix differences. On top of that, today (5+ years after the decision was taken in one way) changing the behaviour would probably not be good for all people already relying on this particular behaviour of SDL_net, even if it's suboptimal. Does this make sense? What do you think? Note that I don't object to closing this bug, as obviously the fix is good enough, but I wanted to raise the concerns so they are at least documented. Well, I think that your concern is valid in principle, what I don't know is if the explanation of upstream's decision changes your opinion. Please let me know what do you think about this, now that all the considerations are taken into account; and let me know if you want me to escalate this issue to upstream, even if it's only for a suggestion to take into consideration for their future releases (1.3 is coming soon, maybe they break more important assumptions/behaviours than this one). Bug#653575: dpkg-query: add virtual field for source package and version
Hi, On Thu, 29 Dec 2011, Ansgar Burchardt wrote: Maybe something like dpkg-query -f='${show:Source-Package} (= ${show:Source-Version})' -W foo-binary I suggested this to Ansgar on IRC because even if we already have all the required information, it's painful to extract it from the Source field implementing the required fallback on the Package and Version fields. Thus I believe that those virtual fields would be useful. or even a special virtual field with the correct value for Built-Using could be implemented? I don't think that this brings us anything significant. The former virtual fields ought to be enough. E.g. for po-debconf http://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po-debconf/de you can see what the status is for each German translation, e.g. RFR (in review), BTS (sent to BTS) and so on. On the German page for po4a this column is not present. This request is to add that column for the po4a case as well. po-debconf is Debian-only material, so it may make little less sense to activate such view for po and po4a, but I agree it may be nice (but it may probably be really noisy for po). For po I agree, but at least for now most stuff in po4a looks Debian originated to me, e.g. many native packages. Bug#405702: sdl-net1.2 bug #405702 fixed long ago
On Thursday 29 December 2011 01:20:43 you wrote: Sorry for the big delay, there are new efforts to try to maintain SDL packages in better shape. Anyway, this bug report was fixed long ago althought it was never properly explained, documented or closed... so doing that right now :) Thank you for this work, Manuel! This bug was nagging me everytime I looked at the list of bugs I filed, because I never understood how it could linger for so long without more people complaining. The fact that a functioning workaround is in place explains it. Note that I don't object to closing this bug, as obviously the fix is good enough, but I wanted to raise the concerns so they are at least documented. Cheers! :) Uli -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
Bug#653596: munin upgrade constantly removes /etc/apache2/conf.d/munin
Package: munin Version: 1.999.4508-1 Severity: serious Justification: Overwriting local admin decisions Something that may or may not have been introduced in bug #619399, the upgrading of munin from both unstable and experimental will delete the symlink in /etc/apache2/conf.d/munin. I have attached this patch in #628959 (applies to squeeze version of xserver-xorg-input-synaptics) However looking at the forwarded upstream bug report http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21129 seems that upstream wants to implement a general rotation mechanism for all drivers instead of letting each driver implement its own mechanism.
