Bug#673505: general: xorg and xserver-xorg 7.6+13 always made X and gnome-shell dead
Package: general Severity: important Dear Maintainer, Recently, I have upgrade packages xorg, xserver-xorg, xserver-xorg-input-all and x11-common from 7.6+12 to 7.6+13. After that, my desktop environment was always dead that cpu of X became 70% and cpu of gnome-shell occupy the other 30%. And I had to forcely shutdown the X service and re-type startx to start the gnome-shell. The reason that I observed to make X dead is mainly due to using ibus and operating browsers that includes firefox 12, iceweasel 10, and google chrome. I did not observe that other operating or software result in the same problem. Since more than half of my gnome packages are version 3.4, while some are version 3.2, as well as gnome-shell and gnome-shell-extension. Thus, I do not know whether the problem results from gnome-shell or xorg. The reason that I report the title relevant to xorg is that I found sometimes the xorg info showed some bugs Gdk-WARNING: x-session-manager: Fatal IO error 11 on X server: 0.#012 and sometimes related to kbd (I can not find the error info now.) Bug#672929: fancy output result should be on the right
Hi again Peter, This is just a heads-up for the 4.1+Debian4 upload of src:lsb that puts the info blocks go to the left code into a file of its own: /lib/lsb/init- functions.d/20-left-info-blocks. Any other package (or an admin) can now either dpkg-divert it [0] or provide a /lib/lsb/init-functions.d/30-right-info-blocks that could put the info blocks on the right. I would be open to accept patches (including the right info blocks code) to make this easier trough alternatives though. Bug#673522: unshare NEWNET + using sockets from before: unregister_netdevice: waiting for lo to become free. Usage count = 2
Package: linux-image-3.2.0-2-amd64 Version: 3.2.16-1 Hi, CLONE_NEWNET is still buggy (i found random reports with the same error message from 2010). uname: Linux * 3.2.0-2-amd64 #1 SMP Mon Apr 30 05:20:23 UTC 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux See the attached example. I don't think it matters much how the socket is used: just create the socket before the unshare and use it somehow - listen() after unshare() triggered it too. The kernel starts spamming the message after the program is terminated. Also the port is not reachable from the outside - although i admit i couldn't find docs mentioning this is supported, but it really should be. (Given that struct net is part of struct sock(common) this shouldn't be hard) I could reproduce it in virtualbox with rescue mode from http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/wheezy_di_alpha1/amd64/iso-cd/debian-wheezy-DI-a1-amd64-netinst.iso - when i started it a second time the process would even hang for some time (not killable). logs look like this: [ 796.444219] unregister_netdevice: waiting for lo to become free. Bug#673490: serious doubts about /lib/udev/bridge-network-interface
Hi! Last upload was trying to get in sync with Ubuntu, I didn't see any problems with that, but let's see your concerns... For a start, directly calling /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/vlan is a huge layering violation. We've been calling /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/vlan for a long time, it is how we setup the vlan ports of a bridge automatically: bridge-utils (0.9.6-4) unstable; urgency=low * Add support for autoconfiguring VLAN interfaces, idea and patch from Paul Slootman. Closes #189386. -- Santiago Garcia Mantinan ma...@debian.org Thu, 8 May 2003 20:21:14 +0200 Anyway, nowadays ifupdown directly manages vlans and the vconfig package is deprecated. Ok, it's been 9 years since we introduced that, maybe we can do it some other way, now, any pointer on this? I am quite concerned that you decided that a complex script should be called for every auto interface which appears in the system: this could have a serious impact on systems with many interfaces (I have firewalls with over hundreds of interfaces configured!). I suppose you are talking about the udev called bridge-network-interface.sh script. Well, this is one of the parts inherited from Ubuntu, I can see your concerns here and I agree that on some scenarios this might cause trouble, I'm wondering if you did test this to see if it really impacted that much on those scenarios :-? I cannot test it on one of those real scenarios, but I just run... INTERFACE=br0 /lib/udev/bridge-network-interface 1000 times on my old amd Athlon 64@1.8Ghz and it took 19 seconds. I also doubt that this is generally a good idea, even if it were not causing scalability problems, because interfaces marked auto should only be configured at boot time. Well, the idea behind this is not bringing up interfaces marked auto, for that we already have allow-hotplug, but adding interfaces to existing bridges that have that interface specified as a bridge port. I can agree however that sometimes having all this done automatically can be the not wanted action, but I like the posibility that is added with this for hotpluging stuff to bridges. I'm open to all kind of ideas on how to solve this posible problems. For example, we can add /etc/default/bridge-utils and specify there some variable controlling all this behaviour, I don't know what would be wanted here, we can implement whatever you feel better there, from a HOTPLUG=false default (not my favourite) to a HOTPLUG=true (I'd prefer this one) ranging to some kind of specification of the bridges that can be hotpluged interfaces into. What do you think? Last but not least, nowadays iproute is able to create bridges by itself, so we should investigate if brctl is still needed. I'll have to check that, iproute is not known for the documentation included on the package itself, but I doubt it provides everything brctl does. I'm thinking on a brctl showstp br0 for example. Well, sorry has worried you, let's see how we can make this less worrying. Hoping to hear back from you. Bug#673528: mysql-5.5: source tarball contains Docs/mysql.info which is not DFSG
Source: mysql-5.5 Version: 5.5.23-2 Severity: serious Justification: Policy 2.1 Dear Maintainer, *** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? debian/rules contains a get-orig-source rule that downloads the tarball and strips out the Docs directory. Amongst other things the Docs directory contains an mysql.info file (which is non-DFSG) and a missing upstream ChangeLog file (which is DFSG compliant). The rule is not particularly well documented and as far as I can see there is nothing in the Debian packaging to say that the upstream tarball had been modified to make it DFSG compliant. Now it seems that at some point I directly downloaded from upstream and that it is this tarball that has been uploaded with 5.5.23-2. Also there is a debian/watch file which is broken. The debian/rules rules hard codes the chosen mirror. One possible solution would be as follows: 1.) Fix the watch file to strip out Docs/mysql.info and use a number of working mirrors. 2.) Rewrite the get-orig-source rule to use uscan. 3.) Install the upstream changelog and remove the associated lintian overrides 4.) Bug#673304: libextractor: please migrate the libpoppler-dev build dependency to libpoppler-private-dev
Hi, I changed the build dependency to libpoppler-private-dev in the git repository [1] When do you need this to be uploaded ? I am not sure I want to bother mentors for an upload fixing only a wishlist bug. If you are willing to sponsor the upload, this can be fixed as soon as you want. Bug#673534: reportbug: supplying an e-mail address should be optional, not required
Package: reportbug Version: 4.12.6 Severity: wishlist It's foolish to require a bug submitter to supply an email address. One who submits a bug report may or may not be interested in tracking the bug via email. And submitters may (quite rightly) be concerned about disclosure of their email address. An attempt at circumventing the problem is to use a bogus address like n...@reply.net. However, the malconfigured mail server responds inappropriately: May 19 05:32:49 local postfix/smtp[22384]: certificate verification failed for bugs-master.debian.org[140.211.15.34]:25: untrusted issuer /C=NA/ST=NA/L=Ankh Morpork/O=Debian SMTP/OU=Debian SMTP CA/CN=Debian SMTP CA/emailAddress=hostmas...@puppet.debian.org and after further attempts the reply becomes: May 19 11:32:42 local postfix/smtp[2278]: C11812005FD: to=sub...@bugs.debian.org, relay=bugs-master.debian.org[140.211.15.34]:25, delay=7328, delays=7307/0.33/21/0, dsn=4.0.0, status=deferred (host bugs-master.debian.org[140.211.15.34] refused to talk to me: 421 busoni.debian.org: Too much load; please try again later) An ugly circumvention that works is to supply a genuine email address that leads back to a server that blackholes the replies. This is a poor option to be left with though, because someone else following the bug might attempt to compose a private message to the submitter. Such a message would be blackholed, and both the sender and recipient are unaware. The reportbug package may not have control over the malconfigured mail server, but it need not force entry of an email address. An email address could be internally designated for the purpose of getting reports through the mail server. In any case, users should not be required to give an email address to the reportbug client. -- Package-specific info: ** Environment settings: EDITOR=emacs INTERFACE=text ** $HOME/.reportbugrc: reportbug_version 4.12.6 mode novice ui text realname anonymous coward email marc.carter-ceqo...@cool.fr.nf -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0.5 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages reportbug depends on: ii apt0.8.10.3+squeeze1 Advanced front-end for dpkg ii python 2.6.6-3+squeeze7 interactive high-level object-orie ii python-reportbug 4.12.6Python modules for interacting wit reportbug recommends no packages. Bug#673535: override: libqpid-ruby1.8: oldlibs/extra
Package: ftp.debian.org Severity: normal Hi! The package ruby-qpid was recently accepted in main. The source package also builds the transitional package libqpid-ruby1.8 which was reported as an override disparity. libqpid-ruby1.8_0.16-1_amd64.deb: package says section is oldlibs, override says ruby. Since libqpid-ruby is a transitional package it should have section oldlibs and priority extra as stated by the package. I'm not sure if this needs to be done for the other architectures, too. Thanks for your work! Cheers, Cajus -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
Bug#672142: transition: allegro4.4
Tobias Hansen tobias@gmx.de (19/05/2012): I filed a sponsorship request with all the necessary information and link to the source package: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=673345 Despite 4fa98a44.8050...@gmx.de, I see a liballeggl4.4-dev package there, which isn't even mentioned in the changelog. Tiny overlook? (Introducing a new package with that upload would mean going through NEW. Not a big deal, but that means we need to poke ftpmasters to get that processed. And I think the Provides: liballegro4-dev you're adding will be sufficient for now anyway?) Mraw, KiBi. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

block 663284 by 673530 thanks Cyril Brulebois k...@debian.org (17/05/2012): I'm not sure whether I should understand the upload is on its way to unstable, or whether you're on the road and unable to peform the upload. At least I don't see a new libcommoncpp2 in queued's log. Thanks for letting us know either way. Apparently the upload reached unstable now. :) Blocking the transition bug with libcommoncpp2's FTBFS on kfreebsd-*. Mraw, KiBi. signature.asc Description: Digital signature
