Bug#702757: upstream works good enough

2013-03-12 Thread jidanni
It turns out the .debs from
http://www.google.com/earth/download/ge/agree.html
works so well (for me) that for now I will use them instead of the
googleearth-package package.

Hi,

That's what I thought as well, but I wanted to check. Thanks Adam for
taking the time to confirm it.

Prach, please change the new path to /usr/share/doc/php-soap, and
I will sponsor the upload.

Cheers,

Thomas

It's been a couple of weeks, so I did some minimal testing and wrote up some
initial text for this purpose based on the behavior I observed.

conflicts with other networking manager daemons
~~~
Gnome upstream chose to couple NetworkManager tightly with the Gnome Shell
in order to provide connectivity awareness for both the Shell and Gnome3
applications.  For this reason the Gnome3 maintainers in Debian decided to
follow upstream and upgrade the Recommends on the network-manager stack to a
Depends.  It is known that a small number of Squeeze installations have Gnome
installed but not NetworkManager, and this Dependency will cause
NetowrkManager to be installed upon a distribution upgrade to Wheezy.
At present, NetworkManager can detect if an interface is managed by ifupdown
to avoid conflicts with it, but does not detect other networking manager
programs such as wicd-daemon.  Problems and unexpected behavior can ensue if
two network manager daemons are managing the same interface when attempting
to make a networking connection.  This issue was discussed by the Debian
Technical Committee in #681834 and #688772.
If wicd-daemon and NetworkManager are both running, a wicd client will fail
to make a connection with the counterintuitive message:
   "Connection Failed: bad password"
Trying a NetworkManager client may sometimes result in the message (even when
NetworkManager is running):
   "NetworkManager is not running.  Please start it."
Or a NetworkManager client may work as expected.  Or some other unexpected
behavior may occur.
If continuing to use another networking manager is desired, the NetworkManager
daemon may remain installed but be permanently disabled (which is persistant
through upgrades) with:
   'update-rc.d network-manager disable'
You will also need to recreate /etc/resolv.conf, as the contents of this file
are replaced when the network-manager package is installed.
Bug#702936: autologin broken since 1.2.3-1
2013-03-12 Thread Craig Sanders
Package: lightdm
Version: 1.2.3-1
After upgrading to lightdm 1.2.3-1, autlogin no longer works.  It gets stuck
on a prompt waiting for the user to select the 'session' and click OK.
Same problem exists in lightdm 1.4.0-1 from experimental.
Reverting to 1.2.2-4 fixes the problemthat just uses
/etc/alternatives/x-session-manager (xfce4 in my case) without a
problem.
i've been using lightdm for a couple of years now to autologin on my
mythtv box (so i can have a fullscreen mythfrontend with a full xfce
session hiding behind it for xterms / web browser and other stuff as
needed). has been working perfectly until i upgraded to 1.2.3.
Bug#600723: bridge-utils: multiple bridge_pathcost options are not supported
2013-03-12 Thread Roopa Prabhu
The error
" vpnbox-f2-en1:/etc/network# ifup mybridge /etc/network/interfaces:39:
duplicate option ifup: couldn't read interfaces file
"/etc/network/interfaces"
is not seen in 1.5-6.
However there is another error in 1.5-6. Multiple bridge_pathcost lines
in  in /etc/network/interfaces for multiple ports does not work.
Only the last bridge_pathcost line sticks.
This is because env variable IF_BRIDGE_PATHCOST can contain only
pathcost for one bridge port and that happens to be the last pathcost
line for the interface.
Eg:
auto mybridge
iface mybridge inet manual
bridge-ports ctz-priv eth0.3084
bridge_bridgeprio 1
bridge_stp yes
bridge_pathcost ctz-priv 100
bridge_pathcost eth0.3084 10
IF_BRIDGE_PATHCOST only contains "eth0.3084 10"
Bug#702935: 'mount -f' does not update /run/mount/utab
2013-03-12 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: mount
Version: 2.20.1-5.3
Severity: serious
Justification: breaks handling of network-based filesystems on shutdown
The use of a symlink for /etc/mtab in wheezy means that 'mount -f' no longer
works.  As a consequence, extra mount options that libmount *should* record
in /run/mount/utab are not recorded for any filesystem that is mounted
before the rootfs is marked rw, including but not limited to _netdev.  This
potentially leaves the system with no way to cleanly unmount some
network-dependent filesystems at shutdown time.
Relatedly, even if /run/mount/utab were being updated properly by 'mount
-f', there appears to be no interface for querying these values.
/etc/init.d/umountnfs.sh currently assumes it should read from /etc/mtab;
and the 'findmnt' utility doesn't appear to honor utab even when using the
'-m' option:
$ findmnt -m -O _netdev
$ echo $?
1
$
This is a significant regression in handling of network-based block devices,
such as iscsi and nbd, compared with squeeze.  I think it's important that
this be resolved before release.
ok, i just took some time to try this out.  It's not pretty, but maybe
i'm misunderstanding something.  It looks like i can only get this
machine to boot from its internal disk by doing:
 grub-install --removable
here's the steps i tried:
I put in a fresh USB stick (/dev/sdb) and did:
 mount -t vfat /dev/sdb1 /mnt
 grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --removable --efi-directory=/mnt /dev/sdb
and that let me reboot from the USB device in EFI mode.  I removed the
USB device after this reboot.
Now that i was in efi mode, i could load efivars.ko, and efibootmgr
would report something.  In that mode, i moved everything from /boot/efi
out of the way, and then ran "grub-install".
this installed /mnt/efi/EFI/debian/grubx64.efi; after looking at that, i
rebooted.
This time grub didn't even show up -- the boot process just hung.
so i rebooted from the USB stick, and did:
 grub-install --removable.
This installed /boot/efi/EFI/BOOT/BOOTX64.EFI; after looking at that, i
rebooted, and things worked fine.
so i suspect that after the next grub upgrade, i'm going to run into
this again.
Any hints on what i can do to not have to always supply --removable?
Bug#448638: RFP: i2p -- I2P is an anonymizing network
2013-03-12 Thread Carlos Alberto Lopez Perez
retitle 448638 RFP: i2p -- I2P is an anonymizing network
noowner 448638
Hi
Given the timeline, I think is pretty clear that nobody is working on
this package.
In the mean time another ITP was filled for this package #665450 (now
merged on this one). So I'm retitling this bug to RFP to easily allow
anyone that wants to take care of this to work on it.
If anyone of you want to step in and take care of packaging I2P for
Debian please re-title the bug back to ITP and assign it to you.
If it happens that there is more than one person interested on packaging
I2P, then the interested ones can talk between them to check the
possibility of maintaining the package together.
Thanks!
Unfortunately python-gpgme isn't installed on quantz yet, so the patch
can't be applied yet. I'll mail DSA about this.
I think that is an important thing to fix. I am also not qualified to
Hmmm, not sure what to say there. It seems like a reasonable approach for now.
I guess this is needed for the developer.php links, fair enough.
Bug#702934: never thought addgroup could add users to groups due to NAME
2013-03-12 Thread jidanni
Package: adduser
Version: 3.113+nmu3
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/share/man/man8/adduser.8.gz
When one sees
NAME
   adduser, addgroup - add a user or group to the system
One thinks this command certainly cannot do (this from further down the
man page):
   Add an existing user to an existing group
   If called with two non-option arguments, adduser will add  an  existing
   user to an existing group.
And will skip this command, eventually ending up using gpasswd -a.
Therefore please say
NAME
   adduser, addgroup - add or manipulate user or groups
or something better. That way one could pick it out from apropos(1).
Bug#702932: kmod: changes "-" to "_" in some module names on output
2013-03-12 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
Package: kmod
Version: 9-2
Severity: normal
Hi.
Any idea about this:
The module files names from e.g. uhci-hcd, ohci-hcd, ehci-hcd and
xhci-hcd use "-", as well as bash's completion (which probably
uses the file names) or modinfo.
But lsmod uses "_", i.e. uhci_hcd, ohci_hcd, ehci_hcd and
xhci_hcd ... is this a bug or a feature ;-)
Cheers,
Chris.
Bug#702734: [nvidia-detect] please move nvidia-detect out of non-free
2013-03-12 Thread Filipus Klutiero
Hi Andreas,
On 2013-03-12 04:28, Andreas Beckmann wrote:
On 2013-03-10 21:53, Filipus Klutiero wrote:
nvidia-detect is currently part on non-free, like the rest of
nvidia-graphics-drivers. nvidia-graphics-drivers in general is currently
non-free, but nvidia-detect in particular has no non-free content.
for building convenience, see below
The
script has no common license, but I'm offering my contribution under
anything wanted.
Historically the packaging is under GPL2(+), although that may not be
the optimal choice for a package in non-free, especially wrt. patches.
Something like BSD/MIT/EXPAT... may be more appropriate. But for your
script, anything will be fine.
If you send me a Copyright/License header today, I can still include it
for 304.84 which I'll try to get into wheezy.
I don't mind the license. I'm just saying if we split nvidia-detect,
we'll have to clarify its license. It doesn't have a clear license
(which is technically already a small problem) today, but that won't be
a problem, as I'll happily license it under any terms requested.
nvidia-detect technically doesn't depend on anything non-free, however
it is clearly strongly associated with the non-free rest of
nvidia-graphics-drivers, therefore contrib would be a understandable
section.
The main "data" files for nvidia-detect are the PCI ID lists (that are
automatically generated from upstream's README), so to conveniently
update nvidia-detect to the latest definitions, I added this package to
be built from n-g-d. (The lists for the older drivers are copies in
n-g-d, but they usually don't change frequently, so need no updates).
I don't think the PCI ID lists would make the package non-free.
Putting it into contrib would be fine, it just needs an extra sync step
for every new upstream release I wanted to avoid.
So you're saying changing the section requires splitting from n-g-d?
I suspected that splitting the source packages would make updates more
complicated, although I can't appreciate the cost.
I would argue main may be the best choice, given that the script could
evolve into something a bit greater than a versions advisor. It could
certainly recommend using nouveau to vesa users, for example.
Someone needs to do this ...
By the way, I recommend to consider making nvidia-detect a source
package. This would ease updates after nvidia-graphics-drivers is
frozen. It would be best not to leave nvidia-detect untouched in stable
for the duration of a whole release cycle.
Hmm, currently it outputs
   Uh oh. Your card is not supported by any driver version up to 304.64.
   A newer driver may add support for your card.
for unsupported hardware, and that seems fine for a stable release. We
will probably have a "more accurate" one in wheezy-backports.
Anyway, patches welcome!
Andreas
I agree it's "fine". I really meant it would be *better* to keep
nvidia-detect up-to-date.
I'm not sure a backport for nvidia-detect is the intended use. I see
backports as appropriate for updates which could introduce breakage. If
we do ourselves a risk-free update, I think it should go directly in
stable. But if we keep updates in backports anyway, then we could at
least prepare stable's nvidia-detect to suggest upgrading to backports
if the card is unknown (or refer to the wiki's version, or to NVIDIA's
website).
Bug#702918: kdm: Kdm can't start KDE sessions twice.
Yes, I have successfully switched to use again the free drivers.
I have no problem with them, using kdm I can start KDE sessions twice.
These are the free drivers that I use, and that I had active before I
installed and activated the nvidia driver:
using kdm in that distributions, even I didn't had this problem with Debian
The package ipset is shown in section "Sponsored/other uploads".
The package tox is shown in section "Sponsored/other uploads".  The packages
lastfm and liblastfm are shown in section "Given DM permissions".
It's an error depending on how one looks at it.  The DDPO is currently designed
to show every package on the DDPO only once, in the first section it fits
in.  See line 675 in developer.wml :
http://anonscm.debian.org/viewvc/qa/trunk/wml/developer.wml?view=markup
I understand that for section "Given DM permissions" this design can be
confusing.  I'm now considering to modify the DDPO to show packages again in
section "Given DM permissions".
Bart Martens
Bug#702929: apache2: dh_apache2 postinst code needs to reload more
2013-03-12 Thread Russ Allbery
Package: apache2
Version: 2.4.4-2
Severity: normal
The default dh_apache2 postinst code ends up calling:
case "$CMD" in
enconf|enmod|ensite)
local a2query_ret=0
a2query $check_switch "$CONF" > /dev/null 2>&1 || a2query_ret=$?
if [ "$a2query_ret" -eq 0 ] ; then
# configuration is already enabled
apache2_msg "info" "apache2_invoke $CONF: No action required"
return 0
and similarly apache2_needs_action only acts on fresh installs.  This
means that if one upgrades a module package, Apache is never reloaded
so far as I can see.  That in turn means that the new module code is
never loaded into Apache, which seems like a serious problem (consider a
security update, for example).
Am I missing something?  It feels like something in the default postinst
action for a package upgrade should at some point end up reloading Apache
to load the new module code, even if nothing has changed about the
configuration.
Ah, yes, I see.  You only remove the module during postrm, so this would
only affect people who wrote explicit maintainer scripts to do something
to the module during prerm.  (I think there was a comment in
apache2-maintscript-helper to that effect.)
Given that, I agree, there's no need to run on any action other than
configure unless you want to cater to people who are fiddling about in
prerm, and I don't see any reallly obvious reason why you should need to
do that.
Bug#702928: Is it ok for sources in main to provide binary packages in contrib?
2013-03-12 Thread Michael Gilbert
package: ftp.debian.org
severity: important
I'm curious whether this situation is really ok as claimed in [0]?
matlab-support source is in main, and the matlab-support binary
(serving only to provide wrappers around non-free matlab) is in
contrib.  It seems obvious to me that a binary package depending on
non-free implies that its source package does as well, thus both
should be in contrib.  Am I wrong?
Thanks for any clarification,
Mike
Sure, yes, that would be fine.  I'm not sure what I was thinking of when
it came to the *.load configuration.  There's no need to change the *.load
files, of course; all this would affect is whether the module was enabled
by default.
I think this is something different, no?  This isn't about whether to
reload Apache, but rather about whether to enable a module by default.
Currently, if one enables mod_webauth by default, it breaks Apache,
because there is mandatory site-local configuration with no meaningful
defaults.
(I consider this a minor upstream bug, and a later version will just warn
and do nothing if minimum configuration is not available.)
The restart issue appears to be something different, so let me open a
separate bug about that to keep distinct issues distinct.  :)
I came across mime.types / libcupsmime and my immediate reaction is
There's probably a reason, but I couldn't work it out from a brief
Please unblock package inetutils. This version contains a security fix
cherry picked from upstream, which was fixed long time ago for other
packages with a shared ancestry (iputils).
The package failed to build on kfreebsd-any due to an issue in
built fine.
Bug#702916: Package description: data bank or database?
Oh, yes - these and biomaj-watcher passed through d-l-e a year ago:
Strictly speaking the d-l-e "house style" would say there should be a
comma after "status" (it "downloads X, checks Y, and applies Z").  But
I'd be more confident with my suggestions if I knew just what it means
for "transformation workflows" to have "consistent state".
Likewise, I don't 100% follow what "with or without workflows to
transform data" is talking about; I'm hoping it makes sense to
bioinformaticians.
The original versions talked about "banks" (and in particular "bank
properties", which sounded as if it was talking about land owned by
financial institutions).  It struck me as odd, too, but it seems to be
the jargon of the field - the upstream docs all talk about "(data)
banks", and some other sources agree with them (though some prefer
"database" or "knowledgebase").
"Data bank" does have one advantage over "database": it's obviously
talking about a repository of biological data, and not a database like
MySQL (the package, the executable, or the running process).
That's my fault.  If your amended version is still accurate then I
agree that it sounds better.
Bug#702821: perl/hash_attack.t fails with 5.10.1 + CVE-2013-1667 fix
2013-03-12 Thread Dominic Hargreaves
Hello,
When trying to fix this issue in Debian stable, I found that the
patch at
http://svn.apache.org/viewvc?view=revision&revision=1455340
does not stop the test failing when applied to 2.0.4 (as currently
found in Debian stable) and built against the current perl package
in Debian stable (5.10 + the rehashing fix). t/logs/error_log simply says:
[Tue Mar 12 21:09:23 2013] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] Failed to mount the hash
collision attack at
/home/dom/working/pkg-perl/git/libapache2-mod-perl2/t/response/TestPerl/hash_attack.pm
 line 112,  line 1.\n
This is the change:
http://perl5.git.perl.org/perl.git/commitdiff/f14269908e5f8b4cab4b55643d7dd9de577e7918
which differs a bit from that applied to 5.14:
http://perl5.git.perl.org/perl.git/commitdiff/d59e31fc729d8a39a774f03bc6bc457029a7aef2
although interestingly both test changes are identical.
Help to pin down this difference in behaviour would be appreciated.
The source for the package in question is at
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-perl/packages/libapache2-mod-perl2.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/dom/squeeze-702821
Thanks,
Dominic.
Bug#702918: kdm: Kdm can't start KDE sessions twice.
2013-03-12 Thread José Luis Feliciano Triana García
Package: kdm
Version: 4:4.8.4-6
Severity: important
Dear Debian developers, KDE maintainers;
On a fresh KDE Debian installation, it is not possible to start KDE session
twice, using kdm.
You login first time OK, then you log off, after you retype your password, and
the session is not able to start, I can hear the KDE sound at login, but no
change in the screen as the splash screen keeps frozen.
I log on on a tty, open top, and then Kwin is in the top, consuming the 90-100
% of cpu time.
 I tried to use the privative drivers (nvidia) with no result, I changed KDM to
LightDM, and with lightDM I can start KDE sessions twice, but not with KDM as
display manager.
Steps to reproduce:
With KDM:
1) Start a KDE session.
2) Log off  from that KDE session.
3) Login into a KDE session again.
4) Vuala! splash screen frozen, KDE sound session, but no desktop.
5) Restart X server (I had to activate the ctrl + alt + return binding in order
to kill Xserver), alternatively you can restar the X server in kdm, and it will
allow you to login as well.
6) Logon to the KDE session again and you will be able to login (no splash
screen frozen)
It is expected to run a KDE session twice.
Additional information:
I installed Openbox, I can start a pure Openbox session twice and a KDE Openbox
session as well, but not a KDE/Kwin session.
While I have the splash screen frozen, In a tty using top I can see that Kwin
is consuming an unusual amount of CPU time, and the process becomes
unresponsive, I can't kill it through top, I must restart the whole X server in
order to stop Kwin consuming most cpu.
I changed the configuration of kdm, the theme through systemsettings , but even
before I made any change, I had this behavior using Kdm.
I actually use lightDM, as it allows me to start KDE sessions twice in a row,
the times I may need to.
This only happens per user, I explain I have my user "foo" and I create another
user "bar".
I login with foo, then I log out (no user switch), I login with bar, no
problem, I logout bar session, then I try to login a second time with foo,
splash screen frozen, restart X server, and I able to log in a second time as
foo.
thanks A TON for this fix!
I've prepared an updated package, available at:
http://people.debian.org/~morph/reportbug/ . It would be awesome if
someone that faced this issue could install the 2 debs on that link
and verify if it's fixed now.
If I get some acknowledges that this package fixes the problems, I'll
upload to unstable and ask for an unblock.
I'd say that mesa should get the highest priority and the more recent
versions of the proprietary drivers should get a higher priority than
the older ones. The priority between fglrx and nvidia does not really
matter because I don't know any system where you need both of them at
the same time. I also think that the priorities are not really important
as if you have more than one alternative installed you probably want to
select the right one based on the hardware and based on static priority
numbers.
I fully agree that this is post wheezy material and a documentation note
is OK for wheezy. I guess you could add a not the NEWS.Debian so that
it's shown with apt-listchanges.
For the live distribution I currently help developing we mostly care
that we don't have to carry a diff to Debian forever. Doing a backport
is OK for us.
Bug#702917: linphone-nogtk: linphonecsh has no provision to recieve chat messages
2013-03-12 Thread Dallas E. Legan
Package: linphone-nogtk
Version: 3.5.2-10
Severity: wishlist
I'm putting this as a wish list item because there may not be
a gracefull way to handle it, but perhaps some imaginative thinking
might overcome the issue.
Basicly, if you run it as advertised, linephonecsh doesn't seem
to have a way to recieve text chat messages.
If the server/slave linphonec  --pipe session is run in a seperate
console (possibly launched with screen, openvt or tmux - in any case
not as advertised to run it :-) ), you can observe multiple copies
of the same text message dumped as they are recieved.
Off hand, I don't know any way to route these to the
(possibly arbitrary, and therefore not really predicatable)
console where linephonecsh is being run.
Maybe it would be good if linphonec had a switch that causes it to
save messages (a predefined number of the latest in a buffer)
until a request to dump them is recieved (a new command
for linephonecsh) ,
then it would know how to dispose of them as it
normally does for other commands.  There may be better ways this could
be handled.
A brief note of this quirk might be good for the linphonecsh man page.
Maybe it is best to use a seperate xmpp/jabber client.  :-)
I also noted that
linephonecsh  generic ''
blocks, where it seems like it should just return to the prompt.
Thanks for any consideration and the work you are doing.
Bug#702916: Package description: data bank or database?
2013-03-12 Thread Martin Eberhard Schauer
Package: src:biomaj
Version: 1.2.1-1
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-CC: debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org
Dear Debian Med Maintainers,
are you sure the package descriptions are what you intended to say?
   Package: biomaj
   Description: biological data-bank updater
BioMAJ downloads remote data banks, checks their status and applies
transformation workflows, with consistent state, to provide
ready-to-use
data for biologists and bioinformaticians. For example, it can
transform
original FASTA files into BLAST indexes. It is very flexible and its
post-processing facilities can be extended very easily.
   Package: biomaj-properties
   Description: biological data-bank updater - example properties files
This package contains a set of data bank properties files that can be
used as examples for BioMAJ. It contains descriptions for many existing
data banks with or without workflows to transform data. Some files may
require additional programs (such as BLAST) for post-processing.
I wonder what a "data bank" is. Did you intentionally use it instead of
database?
The first sentence of the long description for biomaj-properties also sounds
strange to me.
I would be glad if the suggested patch proves as improvement.
Kind regards,
   Martin
Further experimentation reveals that the problem is not the invocation
of gbp, but my package. However, gbp could be smarter about this.
The package I was trying to build had a wrong version number. It was a
3.0 (quilt) package, but the version didn't have a debian revision
number.
I'm thinking gbp assumed it was a native package, so it didn't extract
the pristine-tar data. Thus the behavior I was seeing.
I'm not sure what gbp should do in this case. But I think if the
package format is 3.0 it can avoid guessing from the version if it
should extract upstream data or not.
Thanks for the time you've dedicated to this package. I have
included the proposed patch in the next maintainer upload,
for which I've contacted my original sponsor. I have
acknowledged both the original reporter and the patch
I am sorry for this huge FTBFS, I should've checked for that
Bug#702908: PTS: upload signature parsing patch
2013-03-12 Thread Markus Wanner
tags 700515 + patch
thanks
Hi,
motivated by Paus Wise, I scratched my own itch: here's a patch that
makes PTS parse GPG signatures - therefore being able to display a
package's sponsor. Please review.
A few notes and remarks:
I'm using GPGME, or rather its python binding, so python-gpgme becomes a
dependency.
Currently, if there's anything wrong with the signature or the public
key missing, there's no warning or anything. It will simply fall back to
display the sender of the email, as before. Not sure if that's much of
an issue.
A public key may have multiple uids and the signature is only specific
to the key, not any specific uid. But I only want to display a single
uid. The way I implemented this now is: we take the first uid. Only if a
later uid has an email ending in "@debian.org", we prefer that one.
That's certainly not ideal. We could possibly do an LDAP lookup via the
key's fingerprint on db.debian.org instead...
In the news.xml file, I replaced the "from" attribute of the news item
with more fine grained "from_address" and "from_realname". However, I
think existing entries will be kept, so the XSL-templates need to be
able to parse both. At least that's how I've implemented it. If a
complete rewrite of all news.xml files is feasible, the XSLTs could be
simplified quite a bit.
I also added links to http://qa.debian.org/developer.php?login=$EMAIL
for both, the sender and signer of the mail in the HTML display of the
NEWS. Not in RSS.
Comments?
Regards
Markus Wanner
Bug#702912: gtk2: overflown toolbar buttons barred from accessibility tools
2013-03-12 Thread Yann Dirson
Package: python-gtk2
Version: 2.24.0-3+b1
Severity: normal
When a toolbar's parent is not big enough, some items are available to
the user through the overflow menu.  But for tools using the
accessibility feature (for UI testing, or to allow the disabled to use
computer programs), the arrow used by a "normal user" to get the
overflow menu is not visible through AT-SPI.
The accessibility client accesses all buttons that are children of the
toolbar, and can trigger "click" actions on them, even on those not
shown on screen (which can be distinguished though AT-SPI as not
exhibiting the "showing" state).
When the action is triggered this way on a non-showing button,
standard Gtk apps work correctly (executing the action as normal), as
I could test with eg. gnumeric, geany and gschem.  But when doing so
on an app using pygtk, it causes the following error:
GtkWarning: IA__gtk_widget_event: assertion `WIDGET_REALIZED_FOR_EVENT (widget,
event)' failed
  gtk.main()
At first I thought it would be a gtk issue, but the success with C apps
makes me think the problem is rather on pygtk side.
Not promising security support doesn't mean knowingly shipping stuff
that doesn't (and won't) get any fixes is reasonable.
The RT does not feel very comfortable to push standards at this stage.
But given there are no real changes, they may generously ignore that
while reviewing your debdiff.
btw. there is a typo in your changelog and you may want to close #702838
with the upload.
Fair enough. I started, or more precisely cleaned up what I had a bit and
rebased on 0.7.990; it builds here on Ubuntu and I shipped it to a PPA to
build "cleanly":
https://launchpad.net/~network-manager/+archive/modemmanager-next/+sourcepub/3023373/+listing-archive-extra
It builds fine in sbuild here with libqmi 1.0-1. I'll track it later to see
whether it completes this build. Then there is some work done by Marius
Kotsbak I'll merge, and I'll be ready for constructive criticism (ie.
sponsoring).
Nice thanks. By the way, it's up to you, but you may want to parse the
version from dpkg-changelog, i.e. instead of
VERSION = 1.2.8
do something like
VERSION := $(shell dpkg-parsechangelog | perl -ne 'print $$1 if
m/Version:\s*([\d\.]+)-\d+/')
Note that get-orig-source targets are supposed to be called from an
arbitrary directory though. Thus be careful where you expect
debian/changelog for such jobs. I wrote a similar snippet recently, you
are welcomed to steal [1] if you'd like.
Thanks. But the license does not seem to match. Note that you seem to
have used the original Apache license, whereas MaxMind modified it to
match their corporate/product name in the no-advertising clause
debian/copyright:
 5. Products derived from this software may not be called "Apache",
nor may "Apache" appear in their name, without prior written
permission of the Apache Software Foundation.
vs. mod_geoip.c:
 * 4. The names "MaxMind" and "GeoIP" must
 *not be used to endorse or promote products derived from this
 *software without prior written permission. For written
 *permission, please contact supp...@maxmind.com.
 *
Despite of them calling it "Apache 1.1 license" which is what may have
confused you.
While it's acceptable I discourage you use the same license for debian/
though. You're not MaxMind and thus there is no point to re-use the same
non-advertising clauses for your contributions.
Let's get this done later then. For now you can use GitHub as well.
Do you want to do so? That would imply a package for unstable pushed to
version 1.2.8 with you as maintainer set. You can leave the remaining
bits as is, because it will work with the 2.2 version of the package and
is for a timely limited use.
Closing. There has been no helpful response from the requestor or
maintainers since November, despite intrigeri's prompts. I can find no bug
that would be justification for an unblock, just this vague mention of the
Cangjie Chinese input method being unusable. The proposed debian/changelog
merely has "new upstream release", twice.
If you want to get this sorted out in Wheezy, please take the initiative.
Bug#702909: RFS: unblock policyd-weight/0.1.15.2-5
2013-03-12 Thread Werner Detter
Package: sponsorship-requests
Usertags: unblock
Dear Maintainer,
I've just created a new policyd-weight packages (0.1.15.2-5) which has just
been uploaded to
mentors.debian.net. It includes a new quilt-patch which removes the DNSBL
dnsbl.njabl.org
from policyd-weight due to service shutdown of the DNSBL on 2013-03-01. More
information
can be found on the website of the list operator:
http://www.njabl.org/
As we had some problems with false positive responses after DNSBL's have been
shut down in
the past, I'd suggest unblocking this package to get it into wheezy. I'd also
suggest to
upload a new version of the stable package as it also includes the mentioned
DNSBL.
Here is a snipped from the changelog to point out the modifications:
policyd-weight (0.1.15.2-5) unstable; urgency=high
  * Add 08_del_dnsbl.njabl.org.patch which removes dnsbl.njabl.org list due
to servuce shutdown on 2013-03-01
  * Bumped standard versions to 3.9.4
Bug#702904: adequate: fails to install, remove, and install again
2013-03-12 Thread Jakub Wilk
Control: tag -1 + confirmed help
* Andreas Beckmann , 2013-03-12, 20:25:
Do you install some apt hook conffile that does in-adequately check
whether adequate is actually installed?
In fact it does no checking at all:
DPkg::Pre-Install-Pkgs {"adequate --user nobody --apt-preinst";};
DPkg::Post-Invoke {"adequate --debconf --user nobody --pending";};
DPkg::Tools::Options::adequate::Version "2";
I took a look how other packages deal with removed-but-not-purged apt
hooks:
1) apt-transport-spacewalk breaks when removed but not purged. (Though
in a way that is unlikely to be caught by piuparts. I'll file an RC bug
later, unless somebody beats me to it.)
2) apt-listbugs and apt-listchanges rename the conffile in "postrm
remove" and then rename it back in preinst and "postrm abort-install".
This sounds wrong to me.
3) aptdeamon, debconf, dpsyco-base: these ignore errors from commands
they run. I could use that method, but there's a rink it'll hide genuine
bugs from users.
4) The remaining packages use "test -x ... && ..." or similar. But as I
understand it, with this method I couldn't set DPkg::Tools::Options
anymore.
So... all the above methods suck.
Any ideas how do to it right?
I see, but nevertheless I'm now surprised.
If it's true what you say, then parisc64 (64bit 3.8.x kernel) should have worked
out of the box. But it didn't.
32bit kernel with 32bit userspace worked.
64bit kernel (which had previous to my patch larger structs due to "unsigned
long"
vs. "unsigned int" and in addition the 64bit alignment problem) was broken.
The original issue was #602865, in php-net-smtp, fixed in 1.4.2-{2,3}.
Given that we don't officially support upgrades that skip a stable
release, the packages in wheezy technically don't need to include the
Pre-Depends.
version is released. Does it make sense?
Yes.
AFAIK, if a package is not intended to go into testing, it should be in
experimental rather than unstable.
Unstable is fine. Protecting unstable doesn't make any sense for a package
that isn't in testing anyway. When the freeze is lifted normal transition
will take place.
Great, sounds like a plan to me. I'll document it on
http://wiki.debian.org/Moodle and update all interested.
One thing I'm not sure about is what will happen to current users of
moodle package. They have 1.9 in squeeze, there will be nothing in
wheezy but then the package will appear back in jessie - but with no
upgrade path. The only way to get moodle back will be to drop the
package completely (and drop DB) and re-install it. Of course we could
provide some manual instructions to install 2.2 package and then
upgrade to 2.4.
IIRC, technically, we wouldn't need to worry about upgrades, since we
only need to do upgrades from the previous Debian release.  Of course,
that's not a very nice thing to do.  One option is to provide a 2.2 deb
package that they can download from some other repository (we could
probably dump it somewhere in Alioth).  That would probably be easier
than having to install 2.2 via a non-deb method.  And you could add a
preinst script in the 2.5 package that would abort the upgrade if the
user tries to upgrade from 1.9.
This is why I suggest using wheezy-backports.
Great, we're not promising any security updates in *-backports, so we
can have:
* Moodle 1.9 in squeeze
* nothing in wheezy
* Moodle 2.2 with security issues in wheezy-backports, just to cover for
users that want to use it for the upgrade path
* LTS (possibly 2.6) in unstable, with migration to testing blocked
until the version is confirmed LTS. The preinst check seems like a good
idea.
Just because some misfeature was implemented intentionally, it doesn't stop
it from being harmful -- ie, a bug.  Neither some other operating system
doing a particular mistake means you should repeat it.
Sabotaging shutdown to do a suspend instead is a bad idea, for multiple
reasons:
* on some desktops, you'll get a bright flashing light that, for example,
  makes it kind of impossible to sleep in the room with the computer
* on laptops, it will continue drawing significant power (RAM), draining
  the battery.  It will eventually result in either data loss, or emergency
  hibernation that will leave you with an empty battery.
* machines expected to suspend a lot (ie, laptops) already have multiple
  ways to trigger a suspend directly: everywhere: closing the lid, on most:
  pressing the power button briefly (holding it longer will do a hard
  unclean power-off)
* having some magic key do an actual shutdown doesn't help most users: an
  average Joe won't know about it, advanced users that don't develop the
  desktop environment in question can't be expected to memorise it.
It's sad that this misfeature can't be expected to be fixed for wheezy,
but I'd urge you to consider it for jessie.
(I admit, I personally had it with Gnome3, but XFCE or Mate guys may give
high weight to consistency with Gnome3 and decide to go this way for the
sake of users migrating from Gnome3.  Or, I may want to give Cinnamon a
chance.  Or, ...  In any case, it affects even people who don't use Gnome3
themselves.)
Maybe it's not that likely to be triggered when using apt, since apt
appears to unpack libsigsegv2 before gawk, but here is a recipe showing
the problem starting in a squeeze chroot:
# apt-get install gawk
# sed -i 's/squeeze/wheezy/' /etc/apt/sources.list
# apt-get update
# aptitude download gawk libc6 libsigsegv2
# dpkg -i *.deb
Result:
,
gawk_1%3a4.0.1+dfsg-2_i386.deb) ...
| Unpacking replacement gawk ...
| Preparing to replace libc6 2.11.3-4 (using libc6_2.13-38_i386.deb) ...
| Checking for services that may need to be restarted...awk: error while
loading shared libraries: libsigsegv.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No
| dpkg: error processing libc6_2.13-38_i386.deb (--install):
|  subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 127
| Selecting previously deselected package libsigsegv2.
| Unpacking libsigsegv2 (from libsigsegv2_2.9-4_i386.deb) ...
| Setting up libsigsegv2 (2.9-4) ...
| Setting up gawk (1:4.0.1+dfsg-2) ...
| Errors were encountered while processing:
|  libc6_2.13-38_i386.deb
`
Easily rectifiable, but if libsigsegv2 would depend on the _new_ libc6
the problem would be rather big.
Hi,
during a test with piuparts I noticed your package failed to install,
Before the second installation the package is in config-files-remaining
successfully configured - which is the same version that is going to be
Like a plain failure on initial install this makes the package too buggy
are there any news on that? dma has a recent history of RC bugs, one
looks like apt (at least some versions) needs a Packages.gz ... and only
accepts a Packages for file:// URLs ... anyway, just downloaded the two
.debs and put them in a local repository
piuparts tests squeeze->wheezy now succeeds
piuparts install (and upgrade) in wheezy works fine, too
lenny->squeeze(->wheezy) fails due to some unrelated mysql issue that
I'm not going to investigate further right now
Bug#701851: Wrong titlebar icon (and taskbar icon)
2013-03-12 Thread Adrien
tag 701851 wontfix
thanks
Hi
This bug is minor, so sadly the patch will not be accepted for wheezy now. The
new version of calligra (2.6) is not affected, as the icons were renamed, so I
mark it as won't fix.
Calligra 2.6 will reach experimental soon (it's on the queue), and then sid
once Wheezy will be released.
Thank you for reporting bugs,
Adrien
