Bug#725851: fpc: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review proposal
On 09-10-13 06:42, Christian Perrier wrote: I just noticed new or modified debconf templates appearing for this package. For the record, it is neither. I fixed the issue that the debconf templates were just never translatable. I would like to suggest you to consider calling for debconf templates review AND translation updates when you introduce new debconf templates or modify the existing templates in a package or, if you prefer, to send a call for translations after uploading the first version that introduces new templates or templates changes. Indeed. I should have thought of this. I will follow up after the current review. The template has not seen any changes the last several uploads thought, so there is not a whole lot of flux there. The debian-l10n-english team will now start a review, on our own initiative. It will be conducted through this bug report. Great. If you want, you can ask for being CC'ed to the various discussions when the templates are reviewed. I am subscribed to this bug, so I will contribute to the discussion. Bug#724613: Obsolete alternate depends on ffmpeg
Control: severity -1 wishlist Control: tags -1 wontfix On 25-09-13 20:40, Moritz Muehlenhoff wrote: winff already supports avconv as an alternative for ffmpeg. With the recent upload to sid libav no longer builds the ffmpeg package, so the alternative depends in winff can be dropped now. I agree that within Debian, the proper command line package to do audio and video conversion is avconv. However, I don't see why I should stand in the way of people that want to use ffmpeg instead (via whatever private or public package). It is not like everybody agrees that libav is incredibly better than ffmpeg and should be the only Debian package that provides the library/command line tool. Both forks are active as far as I can tell, except that ffmpeg is not packaged (yet) in Debian. Therefore I wish to keep ffmpeg as a second ranked alternative to libav-tools. There were tclx8.3 and tclx8.4 in the Debian archive at some point. So, that's not a problem to use tcl 8.6 and tclx8.4. There could be, however some backwardly incompatible changes in libtcl between 8.4, 8.5 and 8.6, so some testing is very desirable to check if it's okay to migrate to the newer Tcl. But anyway, Tcl 8.4 reached its end of life, so we have to do something. Cheers! -- Sergei Golovan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Which I guess means xen-system-amd64:i386 should be removed. xen-system-amd64 on an i386 system should be usable on amd64 capable systems, you should end up with a 64-bit hypervisor, running a 32-bit dom0 kernel and 32-bit dom0 userspace. That's quite a common configuration even. Or maybe the intention here was to use multiarch to allow installation xen-system-amd64:amd64 on i386? On 2013-10-11 07:20, Christian PERRIER wrote: Dear Debian maintainer, [...] Hi, The first step of the process is to review the debconf source template file(s) of localepurge. This review will start on Monday, October 14, 2013, or as soon as you acknowledge this mail with an agreement for us to carry out this process. Thank you for working on this. Feel free to go ahead with it. All parts of the process will be carried out in close collaboration with you, and, unless you explicitely ask for it, no upload nor NMU will happen for localepurge. Okay. If you approve this process, please let us know by replying to this mail. If some work in progress on your side would conflict with such a rewrite (such as adding or removing debconf templates), please say so, and we will defer the review to later in the development cycle. Thank you for your attention. I may have to alter some templates in the future to deal with some outstanding bugs. In particular, #725316, #563774 and #505628 are bugs I suspect may require changes to existing (or adding new) templates. Hopefully you can help me with #725316; I suspect it is not the first time lengthy explanations have been left in a README rather than a debconf template, so I hope you have an advice for handling this one. :) For #563774 and #505628, I have an idea of how to solve it, but I suspect it might take a while for me to get it completed. Here I believe it would be easier just to do a (re-)review later rather than stalling this one. ~Niels -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Signed-off-by: Werner Koch w...@gnupg.org (cherry picked from commit 1a0eeaacd1bf09fe5125dbc3f56016bc20f3512e) It is a bit longer than for the actual case but I hope it serves other uses as well. There is a little risk for other applications which use --always-trust and expect that a trustdb.gpg is created or that a keylisting returns validity information for some other trust model. However, it would surprise me if that is a real world case. An easy way to test this change is: mkdir foo cd foo GNUPGHOME=$(pwd) bash echo trust-model always gpg.conf echo no-permission-warning gpg.conf echo lock-nevergpg.conf touch secring.gpg cp /bar/baz/pubring.gpg . chmod -w . Now try simple encryption commands. I have not fixed the problem that a secring.gpg is expected - it won't yield a fatal error but gpg's exit code will be 2 without a secring. Bug#726015: gnupg2: Incorrect Build-Conflicts on automake (= 1.12) doesn't take into account epoch
Package: gnupg2 Version: 2.0.21-2~deb7u1 Severity: serious Justification: fails to build from source (but built successfully in the past) The package has a Build-Conflicts on automake (= 1.12), which only happens to work on sid due to automake1.11 being a package in its own right. When rebuilding gnupg2 on wheezy for a private backport, automake1.11 is provided by the automake package, which is 1:1.11.6-1 and makes the build fail. Bug#722003: 722003 libav-tools: do not work options -t and -fs
Control: retitle -1 avconv does not support -t as argument for input Control: tag -1 fixed-upstream Apparently originally the -t option only worked as argument for output. Since upstream commit 488a0fa68973d48e264d54f1722f7afb18afbea7 [1], the -t option should now also be available on input. I have no idea yet how to tell in which Debian version this was/is going to land, but thought to just let the bts know. Anyways, -fs as argument for the input does not make sense. I believe that the original bug regarding -fs is an operator error. To get a cleaner interface, you can't specify an output argument before the input file in avconv anymore. Maybe avconv could warn about this... If there is a better way to do this with the maven_repo_helper please feel free to improve on my fix. During shutdown, scripts that need to run before sendsigs kills all processes should depend on $remote_fs. mbiebl Unfortunately I think that ship has sailed mbiebl I think 99% of the LSB headers have $remote_fs mbiebl because their binaries are in /usr mbiebl do you really expect to update all of them to use $local_fs instead? Mithrandir I'd be fine with just whatever ships stuff in rcS Mithrandir for the rest, it won't be a problem, will it? mbiebl it shouldn't, no mbiebl so adding a hack to systemd to s/remote-fs.target/local-fs.target/ for early boot services Mithrandir given we require /usr to be available immediately post-initramfs, and sysvinit does approximately the same. mbiebl do you think this is a crazy idea? Bug#726028: policykit-1: Authorisation error in KDE when GREP_OPTIONS include output options
Package: policykit-1 Version: 0.105-3 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, Setting GREP_OPTIONS in either $HOME/.profile or $HOME/.bash_profile affecting grep's output causes authorisation failures in KDE. E.g., try the following: export GREP_OPTIONS=--color=auto --initial-tab --line-number When KDE starts, you get an authorisation error from the apt update daemon. Also, anything requiring administrative privileges to change, such as Login screen, will refuse to grant access. The refusal is not logged in any of the usual places that I can see. The same applies if an alias is defined like this: alias grep='grep --color=auto --initial-tab --line-number' In either case, removing --line-number and --initial-tab restores the authorisation. Setting --color is OK, so long as it's set to auto. The problem does not appear when using GNOME or XFCE, but their respective login managers don't source $HOME/.profile or $HOME/.bash_profile. I believe the problem would also affect users of XDM and SLIM. I thought it may be due to an unguarded call to grep in a system shell script somewhere, but I haven't been able to track it down so far. If memory serves, Ubuntu and Linux Mint used to have exactly the same problem. I believe they fixed it, but don't quote me on that. BTW, reading can be done using /dev/cpu/0 only, but writing seems to require nodes for each cpu.) IMHO, it is necessary to populate /dev/cpu like that on each boot, if msr-tools are to be used reliably. A note on the man page may help users, but also annoy them with the need to devise how to set up a proper initialization on each startup. Shouldn't the package install a script in /etc/init.d, with a start action similar to MAKEDEV-cpuid-msr, to accomplish that task directly? Hi, the aforementioned patch applies cleanly on top if Kopete 4.11.2, and works all right - so once KDE SC 4.11 is being packaged, it should be straight-forward to bring OTR support back. Bug#726032: transition: GNOME 3.8: gnome-desktop (and all the rest)
Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: transition Hi, we'd like to upload the last bits of GNOME 3.8 This involves a library transition for gnome-desktop: libgnome-desktop-3-2 → libgnome-desktop-3-7 and mutter: libmutter0 → libmutter0b I recompiled the rdeps of gnome-desktop and mutter and the following packages failed to build: gnome-settings-daemon_3.4.2+git20121218.7c1322 gnome-control-center_3.4.3.1-5 gnome-panel_3.4.2.1-6 nautilus_3.4.2-2 Backporting the fixes for gnome-desktop 3.8 or mutter 3.8 is not really feasible for the packages above so we would like to update them to 3.8 instead. Since those packages are interlinked via Breaks, e.g. in gsettings-desktop-schemas, we basically need to update all the remaining parts of GNOME 3.8 in one go, that includes: mutter nautilus gsettings-desktop-schemas gnome-shell gnome-shell-extensions gnome-settings-daemon gnome-session gnome-control-center gnome-desktop gdm (not quite sure how to express that via ben). This is a pretty self-contained transition with all packages aside from cinnamon and nemo being under the pkg-gnome team maintainenance, and those two package can be binNMUed just fine. It would be great if we can start the transition at your earliest convenience. Cheers, Michael (on behalf of the Debian GNOME team) Ben file: title = GNOME 3.8: gnome-desktop (and all the rest); is_affected = .depends ~ libgnome-desktop-3-2 | .depends ~ libgnome-desktop-3-7 | .depends ~ libmutter0 | .depends ~ libmutter0b; is_good = .depends ~ lib(gnome-desktop-3-7|mutter0b); is_bad = .depends ~ lib(gnome-desktop-3-2|mutter0); -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (200, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.10-3-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#330973: ppp: possible MTU problem when using mppe
On Fri, Sep 30, 2005 at 08:59:35PM +0200, Alexander Weber wrote: mppe_compress[1]: osize too small! (have: 1400 need: 1404) ppp is configured to require 128-bit encryption. Altering the MTU value in the pppd options file does not help. After reducing the MTU by four bytes the messages changes to: mppe_compress[1]: osize too small! (have: 1396 need: 1400) So it seems ppp wants 4 more bytes regardless of what the MTU is set to. Let me add a little detail here. The need value printed by the kernel is bogus. Have a look at the relevant source: drivers/net/ppp/ppp_mppe.c: |/* Make sure we have enough room to generate an encrypted packet. */ |if (osize isize + MPPE_OVHD + 2) { |/* Drop the packet if we should encrypt it, but can't. */ |printk(KERN_DEBUG mppe_compress[%d]: osize too small! | (have: %d need: %d)\n, state-unit, | osize, osize + MPPE_OVHD + 2); |return -1; |} You can see that the value printed as need is not the one being compared. Instead it is always 4 greater than the have value regardless of the actual isize given. You might need to lower the MTU even further. TTBOMK there is no working 3D support on kfreebsd which would allow to run GNOME Shell on kfreebsd, so we either need some kfreebsd porters to have a look at this or remove those packages for kfreebsd. Hello James, On May 30, 2013, at 17:00 , James Cloos wrote: The ip column should not be varchar or text. It should be inet. The proper fix is: alter table supermasters alter COLUMN ip type inet using ip::inet; and change the sql which creates the table during install to use inet for that column. That column is only supposed to hold ipv4 or ipv6 addresses, which is exactly what the inet type is for. As an added bonus, inet stores the address as an integer, so it should take up less space than a text/varchar/char column. Bug#724944: Patch
Control: tags -1 + patch First of all, I can see how you're busy, but if you think my problem is trivial, please just tell me so. If I'm sending a message saying I don't know how to continue, even explicitly saying that I know this may not be what you need, a reply only saying this is not what we need is totally unhelpful. It shouldn't be too much effort to type the extra sentence what you describe you did should have worked, did you try restarting the server? (which I thought I did, but I suppose I didn't). A line like that helps more than you might think; it confirms that I was on the right track. Since I don't know much about the code or how it's supposed to work, that is good to know. Anyway, a server which is unable to play any video 5 minutes after starting gives quite a strong motivation to fix things. So after I got a backtrace, I debugged the thing. The problem was that the result of intel_get_pixmap_private() could be NULL, but that wasn't checked. So I grepped for it and added checks to all calls of that function. The patch is attached. You will want to check if I'm handling it the right way everywhere, because I just guessed the proper course of action. Then again, most code would segfault without handling it, so perhaps most of these can't ever be triggered anyay (but I'm not too sure about that; it certainly can set it to NULL when calloc fails). We are working with wxWidgets developers to fix remaining bugs: http://trac.wxwidgets.org/ticket/15529 wxWidgets 3.0 is just around the corner and we hope it will be included into Debian repositories and we will use it from it. We still need more test, but it seems that we also nailed curl bug and will be able to use curl directly from Debian repositories: https://github.com/desura/Desurium/pull/618 The big remaining thing is libcef which is not present in standard Debian repositories and we still need to patch it. Will it be OK for Debian if bring such a library for Desurium needs? Best regards,

This is done by interpreting each group of four bytes as a 32-bit integer, which is then converted to a five-digit base-85 representation using the digits from ASCII 33 (!) to 117 (u). This is similar to MIME::Base64 but more space efficient: The overhead is only 1/4 of the original data (as opposed to 1/3 for Base64). Bug#722375: [DRE-maint] Bug#722375: Updating the Ruby packaging policy for your package «libposixlock-ruby»

So please if anybody feels like fixing my package up, the please do so, thanks a lot and greets to you all, *t I downloaded your package to take a stab at repackaging it, but found you had this in your README: The upstream posixlock gem has not been ported and doesn't compile under ruby 1.9. -- Tomas Pospisek tpo_...@sourcepole.ch Tue, 03 Jul 2012 The last time upstream appears to have touched the code is in 2009, but Web references I found to it seem to be from 2005-2007 (maybe the http://www.codeforpeople.com/ server was installed in 2009?); the code is really tied into the C structures of Ruby objects, and I agree with your comment: It fails to build for 1.9.3. Now, although this functionality seems important, the package has no reverse dependencies, and has a very low popcon index. So, I'd suggest filing a bug for its removal. It would be best if you could file this bug; otherwise, I can do it, but please tell me if I should proceed (or, of course, if I should _not_ do so). according to popcon there are a few user using the package. I don't know if the number there is statistically relevant - or in other words if those users really *are* using the package. If we leave the package in Debian as is, then at least we serve those few users. I'm not sure what we gain by dropping the package. But please proceed as you judge right. Bug#712680: hprop broken after upgrade to wheezy
Dear Maintainer, That made the trick, many thanks to you. Cheers Christophe Le 11 oct. 2013 à 01:32, Brian May br...@microcomaustralia.com.au a écrit : To anyone suffering from this bug. Please try: -k FILE:/etc/krb5.keytab Which should also work[1], however, obviously, requires the key be exported first. Please let me know if that helps. My current understanding of the details: The default value of -k is HDB:. Heimdal retrieves the keytab with hdb_get_entry(). As the dbname is not given (dbname should appear to right of HDB:), the would recurse through the list of known databases (find_db) until a match is found. On a default Debian configuration this is: # ./lib/hdb/test_dbinfo label: default realm: no realm dbname: /var/lib/heimdal-kdc/heimdal mkey_file: /var/lib/heimdal-kdc/m-key acl_file: /var/lib/heimdal-kdc/kadmind.acl The value of dbname is used. However before this happens, krb5_init_creds_set_keytab() is called first. Since change 118f99e3083144523965f3afea7bdb089253da5e, krb5_init_creds_set_keytab() checks the result of the call to krb5_kt_start_seq_get(). Before if this failed, it didn't matter. Now it does. This function call ends up at hdb_start_seq_get(). Unfortunately this function does not like the fact it was not given a specific database to work on, and fails: if (dbname == NULL) { /* * We don't support enumerating without being told what * backend to enumerate on */ ret = KRB5_KT_NOTFOUND; return ret; } This failure is propagated back up to krb5_init_creds_set_keytab(), which calls _krb5_kt_principal_not_found(), which sets the error. This in turn get propagated back to hprop.c, get_creds() which prints the error: hprop: krb5_get_init_creds: Failed to find kadmin/hp...@in.vpac.org in keytab HDB: (unknown enctype) Thanks Notes: [1] From my reading of the code, the following should work too: -k HDB:/var/lib/heimdal-kdc/heimdal:mkey=/var/lib/heimdal-kdc/m-key However, appears to be buggy. I get: $7 = {dbname = 0x608e70 /var/lib/heimdal-kdc/heimdal, mkey = 0x608ea0 =/var/lib/heimdal-kdc/m-key} strace shows: open(=/var/lib/heimdal-kdc/m-key, O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) i.e. when hdb_resolve() parses the string it fails to skip over the = sign. Is there a way to raise the priority of this patch from wishlist? I think it's a major usability bug likely to lead to an unbootable system if you happen to think ahead enough to use LABEL= in your /etc/fstab UUID's are great (if hidden) for most users, but my experience is it's a lot easier and less prone to error to recover something at 3am when you remember the label of the root filesystem you want. Bug#724757: RFS: dxsamples/4.2.0-2 [ITA] -- Sample programs for the OpenDX Data Explorer
On 07/10/2013 19:49, Paul Gevers wrote: Ah, I now see what you mean. The /usr/share/dx/java/* and /usr/share/dx/samples/* are files in dxsamples. Why did you want to move them from dxsamples to dx? Most of the time, but certainly not always, I would put them in the package that provides the target files. This is also what lintian warns about, so I guess my idea is not strange. I agree that in most cases you would want the symlinks in the package that provides the target files. I think an exception would be where there is not a strong dependence (either way) between the package providing the target files and the package that needs, or makes use of, the symlinks. I that case, I think the symlinks should go in the package that uses them. Also, in the dx package there are several symlinks located in /usr/lib/dx, I feel having all of these in the dx package rather than some in dx, some in dx-doc and some in dxsamples makes the most sense. The extended description of the experimental 'package-contains-broken-symlink' Lintian tag is: The package contains a symlink but the destination for the link does not exist in the package nor in its direct dependencies. In my case, dx recommends dx-doc and suggests dxsamples. I have not checked, but it seems as if the Lintian tag does not follow recommends and suggests depedencies, only depends. Bug#726052: icedove: new messages not highlighted - folder loses index
Package: icedove Version: 10.0.12-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, *** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? For the last several months new messages aren't showing up nor is the folder they are in being higlighted. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? I thought initially it might have something to do with the large number of messages I have stored, so I archived messages for prior years. This did not fix the problem. The folders still aren't showing the presence of unread messages. It appears that the index file for the folder is missing or corrupt and needs to be rebuilt. It starts rebuilding when I click on the folder. Compacting the folder doesn't help. * What was the outcome of this action? When I click on a folder with new messages, the index rebuilds and the messages finally show up with the folder being highlighted to indicate the presence of unread messages. * What outcome did you expect instead? The folder should show the presence of unread messages without me going into it to check for them. This is a fairly new behaviour. It only started this year. I've been using Icedove and previous Mozilla mail products for decades without this issue. I do have more than a dozen mail accounts that Icedove is managing. The four main ones have dozens of filters to sort the mail so that most mail shows up in subfolders within the inbox. I rely on the folders being bolded to notify me of the presence of new messages. *** End of the template - remove these lines *** -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.10-3-amd64 (SMP w/6 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages icedove depends on: ii debianutils 4.4 ii fontconfig2.10.2-2 ii libasound21.0.27.2-1 ii libatk1.0-0 2.10.0-2 ii libc6 2.17-93 ii libcairo2 1.12.16-2 ii libdbus-1-3 1.6.14-1 ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.100.2-1 ii libevent-2.0-52.0.21-stable-1 ii libffi5 3.0.10-3 ii libfontconfig12.10.2-2 ii libfreetype6 2.4.9-1.1 ii libgcc1 1:4.8.1-10 ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-02.28.2-1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.36.4-1 ii libgtk2.0-0 2.24.21-1 ii libhunspell-1.3-0 1.3.2-4 ii libjpeg8 8d-1 ii libnspr4 2:4.10-1 ii libnspr4-0d 2:4.10-1 ii libnss3 2:3.15.1-1 ii libnss3-1d2:3.15.1-1 ii libpango1.0-0 1.32.5-5+b1 ii libpixman-1-0 0.30.2-1 ii libsqlite3-0 3.8.0.2-1 ii libstartup-notification0 0.12-3 ii libstdc++64.8.1-10 ii libvpx1 1.2.0-2 ii libx11-6 2:1.6.1-1 ii libxext6 2:1.3.2-1 ii libxrender1 1:0.9.8-1 ii libxt61:1.1.4-1 ii psmisc22.20-1 ii zlib1g1:1.2.8.dfsg-1 Versions of packages icedove recommends: ii myspell-en-us [myspell-dictionary] 1:3.3.0-4 Versions of packages icedove suggests: ii fonts-lyx 2.0.6-1 ii gconf-service 3.2.6-1 ii libgconf-2-4 3.2.6-1 ii libgssapi-krb5-2 1.11.3+dfsg-3 ii libnotify40.7.6-1 -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#544641: lvm2: Can't resume from a uswsusp hibernation on LVM swap
Hey, I'm also affected by this bug. By now, just workarounding it booting with noresume. But, I'm wondering why /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/resume uses blkid to translate a configuration variable set by the user (e.g. /dev/mapper/vg0-swap) to a UUID=... form. Couldn't just let the RESUME variable be what the user set in the first place? Another question, how would lvchange handle UUIDs? I've skimmed the manpage and there is absolutely no reference on how activate a LV using its UUID. Thanks everyone, -- L. Currently there's a bunch of API documentation files in the evolution-dev package. Bug#725468: [ITR] templates://localepurge/{localepurge.templates}
Quoting Niels Thykier (ni...@thykier.net): I may have to alter some templates in the future to deal with some outstanding bugs. :) Sure, it seems that #725316 can fixed by including some explanations in the debconf template. The limit is more or less what can be fixed in one screen as scrolling debconf templates is not always trivial to understand for newbies. We'll see that during the real review stage..:-) signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#692739: gdm3/experimental: FTBFS on kfreebsd-any, needs porting and testing
On Thu, 08 Nov 2012 at 12:18:22 +, Simon McVittie wrote: Alternatively, someone could implement g_credentials_get_unix_pid(), which clearly ought to exist anyway, and would move the problem into GIO. (GNOME #687920.) I did that, and it's available in glib2.0/unstable (2.36). Using it in gdm is left as an exercise to the reader^W^Wsomeone who can test it :-) halfline said on https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=687921 that he'd accept a patch. Bug#653327: x11-common: Quoting in 20x11-common_process-args breaks starting gnome-session with arguments.
severity 653327 important thanks Since this now also affects the new GNOME Classic mode in GNOME 3.8, I'm raising the severity to important. I'll add a wrapper script as workaround for now, but it would be nice to see this fixed properly in Xsession.
