Actually, I was really thinking about the situation where
dpkg-statoverride AND debconf were NOT used. dbconfig-common allows a
package to specify the ownership and permissions of the configuration
file. The package may or may not do this via debconf (cacti currently
does not). If a local admin decides that the ownership and/or
permissions need to be different dbconfig-common should honor that when
updating the package. Until know (hence RC) dbconfig-common changed the
ownership and permissions unconditionally to the ownership and
permissions requested by the package (unless dpkg-statoverride was used
by the admin), which may not be what the admin wants (and as you state
below may not reflect the situation).

But this indeed is a good idea. Lots more logic to add, but indeed.
Annoying thing is that the script that actually does the file writing
may be called manually as well. Let me ponder on this some time.

Sure, but AFAICT that is not the case here.

Not applicable for the bug at hand, because there never was a question
to the user. Just hard-coding in the package, which I think is
acceptable, as well as it should be acceptable that the package leaves
it to dbconfig-common to just do-the-right-thing in this case.

Since you seem to have a way to reproduce the problem, could you please
also git bisect it?

(I don't see this as anything else then just yet another bug in

Hi,

automatic installation tests of packages that share a file and at the
same time do not conflict by their package dependency relationships has
detected the following problem:

Selecting previously unselected package ocl-icd-libopencl1:amd64.

This is a serious bug as it makes installation fail, and violates
sections 7.6.1 and 10.1 of the policy. An optimal solution would
consist in only one of the packages installing that file, and renaming
or removing the file in the other package. Depending on the
circumstances you might also consider Replace relations or file
diversions. If the conflicting situation cannot be resolved then, as a
last resort, the two packages have to declare a mutual
Conflict. Please take into account that Replaces, Conflicts and
diversions should only be used when packages provide different
implementations for the same functionality.

Here is a list of files that are known to be shared by both packages
(according to the Contents file for sid/amd64, which may be
slightly out of sync):

  /usr/include/utlist.h

This bug has been filed against both packages. If you, the maintainers of
the two packages in question, have agreed on which of the packages will
resolve the problem please reassign the bug to that package. You may then
also register in the BTS that the other package is affected by the bug.

-Ralf.

PS: for more information about the detection of file overwrite errors
of this kind see http://edos.debian.net/file-overwrites/.

Looking at the patch, it seems to just add a check that something
is actually initialised or similar, which seems like something that
should probably just be applied to the pubsub module directly.

Do you know where the patch is from and if it has been submitted
to wxpython/pubsub upstream? Sadly the patch file is lacking such
metadata.

P.S. Did you see the discussion of your img2py patch in

Bug#759068: pytimechart: Patch for wxPython 3.0

Varun gave me explicit permission to NMU packages he maintains for this
transition, but I'm leaving pytimechart as there doesn't seem much
point in transitioning it until #761140 is fixed, as the failure to
run means I can't test the patch, and the package isn't going to be in
jessie anyway as things currently stand.

Sadly I've no idea what's going wrong with python-pil, and searching
the web for the error message finds reports of similar issues in various
other applications, but none of the ones I looked at had a solution.

Cheers,
Olly

Hi,

If I'm not mistaking, this is the same bug as this:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=754987

and some information may be found here too:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=758480

If you agree that this is the same bug, then I may close this one.

Cheers,

Thomas

Bug#648867: please install bash completion script

2014-10-08 Thread Antoine Beaupré
Package: tmux
Version: 1.9-6
Followup-For: Bug #648867

I also think the bash completion file should be installed in the proper
location, even if it's incomplete. Having it in here:

/usr/share/doc/tmux/examples/bash_completion_tmux.sh

... is pretty much useless, it belongs in

/usr/share/bash-completion/completions

like the other 592 completions I currently have available there.

Even if it's incomplete, I think it's better than nothing - not having
autcompletion on "tmux attach" seems a little ridiculous at this
point...

I agree this is still an issue. Here I had to go through a few hoops to

success:

I also think that using a "tmux" termcap would make sense if we're going

bad idea in the first place...

Bug#764566: (second attempt) kernel panic apparently caused by killing alsa_in process

2014-10-08 Thread Robert M. Riches Jr.
Package: linux-image-3.2.0-4-amd64
Version: 3.2.60-1+deb7u3

(Second attempt to report this.)

A few days ago, running Debian 7 (Wheezy), I had a kernel panic
immediately (less than a small fraction of a second) after pressing
on a command to kill a process running alsa_in somewhere
around 15-60 seconds after I had deleted the file to which that
process's stdout/stderr had been redirected. Because the triggering
events could be done by a non-privileged user, this could be seen as
constituting a DOS vulnerability.

Kernel version (uname -a):

Linux one 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.60-1+deb7u3 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Package that provided the alsa_in binary:

ii jackd2
1.9.8~dfsg.4+20120529git007cdc37-5 amd64JACK Audio Connection Kit
(server and example clients)

This is the CPU:

Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU W3680 @ 3.33GHz

Motherboard is an Asus P6T6 WS Revolution. RAM is 24GB with ECC.
Disks are mdadm RAID10, a pair of WD and a pair of Seagate, both
rated for RAID use. The machine passed 15h, 34m of memtest86+ with
zero errors on May 31, 2013. I think I ran memtest86+ again in
December but can't find the details. The system had a spontaneous
reboot Feb. 17, 2014, but has otherwise operated flawlessly since
prior to May of 2013. Filesystems are ext4.

The graphics card is an Asus ENGT430. I use the nouveau driver.
Frequently, after a week or three of uptime, small crudlets develop
on the X screen that xmag says do not exist. Normally, using xrandr
to move a second monitor around will make them disappear. At the
time of this event, there had been such crudlets on screen.

I use several instances of the Alsa loopback soundcard and have a
couple of hardware PCIE soundcards plugged in.

Of course, there was nothing relevant in /var/log. The system came
back up fine, only had a few orphaned inodes during fsck, and did
not have any RAID mismatches on the next check.

By way of more detail about the alsa_in process, in case it might be
relevant: I run two diskless thin/zero-client machines that PXE boot
from the second NIC on this big machine. The clients use VNC and a
combination of Alsa and JACK (netjack) to do remote sound. (The
client machines run a remastered TinyCore from a few years ago.)
Sometimes, the alsa_in process starts spewing to its log file in the
vicinity of 1GB per hour. Quite often, when I detect that
condition, I will kill the alsa_in process without any harm. This
one time, I uncharacteristically deleted the log file before killing
the process. The kernel panic screen appeared within a fraction of
a second of the instant I pressed to kill the process. (The
alsa_in processes were running on the big Debian/Xeon machine.)

I captured some digital photographs of the screen. All of the text
is readable, though one long line is a bit smeared--sorry. I had
attached them (~20MB encoded) to the first attempt to report this.
I'm happy to send them in once the bug report is accepted into the
system.

Please inform if there is any additional information that would be
useful regarding this report. Sadly, I will not be able to try to
reproduce the symptoms here, because I only have one machine like
this, and it is the primary household computing platform.

OBS Build creates chroots and builds DEB/RPM packages for various
Linux distributions. In Debian, this package fills a gap: it allows one to
build packages for the openSUSE/SLES distributions on Debian system.
 .
Its only task is to reliably populate a chroot and attempt to build
a package in that chroot. It is used by the Open Build System provided
by SUSE, but can also be use as a standalone tool.
 .
Optionally, builds can take place in KVM or XEN instance.

Bug#729215: Does katepart need to be a dependency?

2014-10-08 Thread Diane Trout
Hi,

I did some investigation, and an even simpler way to break the loop is to ask
"why is katepart" a dependency of kdelibs5-plugins.

back in 4.7.4 Pino added:

  * Make kdelibs5-plugins depend on katepart, to make it "provide" it as it
happened in << 4.7.

I think the dependency was added so "embedded advanced text editor" would show
up in: System Settings -> Default Applications -> Embedded Text Editor.

I rebuilt kde4libs after removing katepart from the dependency list and
installed the changed kdelibs5-plugins. Then I removed katepart, which also
removed: kwrite, kate, kde-plasma-desktop, kde-standard, plasma-netbook.

I relogged and got my desktop. I then looked in System Settings,..., Embedded
Text Editor and saw the editor chooser drop down box was empty -- until I
reinstalled katepart (by reinstalling kde-standard)

maybe the katepart dependency could be moved from kdelibs5-plugins to one of
the standard meta-packages?

katepart isn't really a hard dependency for kdelibs5-plugins, it's just needed
for a sane desktop configuration.

Diane

Bug#764564: openrc: fail to boot when encryption + lvm are present

2014-10-08 Thread frozencemetery
Source: openrc
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

When upgrading a sysv system (jessie) to openrc, if the partition table
includes a lvm partition with physical volume an encrypted partition,
installing openrc will render the system unbootable.

That is, the system will hang like so:
https://www.club.cc.cmu.edu/~rharwood/tmp/openrc.png
with the "perf interrupt" occuring after a few minutes of waiting and no
further activity.

This is a major problem because this partition layout is one of those
*recommended by the installer* for automatic partitioning. As far as I can
tell, openrc is capable of booting both encrypted and LVM partitions
individually, but not both.

The minimized partition layout I use which fails is:

- disk 1: MSDOS table
  - partition 1: 200MB ext4, /boot
  - partition 2: *, physical volume for encryption
- subpartition 1: *, physical volume for LVM
  - subsubpartition 1: * ext4, /

What does SPDX think the difference between these two is? The original
Artistic License was the one that shipped with Perl, so I'm confused about
what the difference would be.

We should not modify the license texts included in common-licenses. The
files contain exactly the license text as distributed by the author of the
license. That's a nice property that we should not be changing.

There's no harm in spelling out which one is intended in README, though.

Bug#764563: pocl: FTBFS: test suite errors

2014-10-08 Thread Aaron M. Ucko
Source: pocl
Version: 0.10-3
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source

The builds of pocl for i386 and (32-bit) powerpc both failed with test
suite errors: three unexpected failures on i386 and 80 (!) on
powerpc. Could you please take a look? You can find the full logs at

https://buildd.debian.org/status/logs.php?pkg=pocl&ver=0.10-3&suite=sid

(So far, most of the remaining failures were due to pocl's configure
script rejecting the architecture as unsupported; you might want to
tighten its architecture field in debian/control accordingly.)

The Thruk packaging goes to some lengths to be self-contained, and
duplicates some things that would be better handled by the rest of the
distribution. I've been tempted to try to repackage it from upstream
source in a somewhat more natural way that makes use of the existing Perl
packages in Debian, although I'm not sure when I'll get to that, or if I'm
missing a reason not to do that.

Update to libwxgtk on Oct 7th, 2014.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
   * What was the outcome of this action?
Package expects libwxgtk3.0-dev and libwxgtk-media3.0-dev as dependencies.
Version requirement is < 3.0.2~ but latest wxgtk packages are now 3.0.2-1 which
stops libalien-wxwidgets-perl from being installed.

If your system is experiencing sufficient memory pressue that things are
being OOM killed by the kernel, then it seems possible that could
interfere with the filesystem umount/read-only remounting or a process
involved in running that during the reboot, thus leaving the filesystem
unclean (but probably without many other problems).

In any case, debconf is not responsible for anything that locales does
when reconfigured (it seems that locale-gen does need 100 mb of memory or
so to enable some locales, but I don't know why). And debconf does not
do anything unusual when accessing the filesystem (it would have to be
quite unusual indeed to corrupt it, on the order of writing to the
filesystem directly, bypassing the kernel).

So, I'm fairly confident that if there's a bug at all, it's not in debconf.

 Hello,

I'm running Debian testing. After the last dist-upgrade, systemd has
started showing status messages during boot (sort of like sysvinit used
to do). This is certainly much prettier and more informative than the
blank screen that I had before, but it has the unfortunate side-effect
of interfering with the cryptsetup password prompt. Sometimes the prompt
is several lines before the cursor with other messsages in between, and
 sometimes it's actually overwritten completely.

It'd be nice if status output would be suppressed/delayed while a
 password prompty is active.

After dist-upgrade, I have the same problem, Chromium can no longer
use Flash.

To get it to work I had to do:
chromium
--ppapi-flash-path=/usr/lib/pepperflashplugin-nonfree/libpepflashplayer.so

There should be a way to make this the default.

In that case it'd be great if the systemd or the cryptsetup package
could recommend or suggest the appropriate package (plymouth?).

You'll need something like plymouth to multiplex the input/output.

And with plymouth installed, this should work out-of the box.

Bug#764555: systemd: cryptsetup password overwritten/hidden by status messages

2014-10-08 Thread Nikolaus Rath
Package: systemd
Version: 215-5+b1
Severity: normal

Bug#764554: xfce4-panel: suspend icon missing

2014-10-08 Thread Chris Bainbridge
Package: xfce4-panel
Version: 4.10.1-1
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

The actions panel has a suspend action but the icon does not exist:
http://imgur.com/xNsWstj

The icon is set in plugins/actions/actions.c - the other actions all
have corresponding icons and suspend is set to system-suspend.png but
that icon does not exist.

eg. lock-screen icon is set to "system-lock-screen" which corresponds to
/usr/share/icons/HighContrast/scalable/actions/system-lock-screen.svg or
/usr/share/icons/Tango/16x16/actions/system-lock-screen.png

But suspend icon is set to "system-suspend" and there is no
/usr/share/icons/.../system-suspend.png

There is an icon /usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/xfsm-suspend.png
which looks like it could be used?

Bug#764553: base-files: Does neither state which version nor which variant of the Artistic License is in /usr/share/common-licenses/Artistic

Dear Santiago,

neither inside /usr/share/common-licenses/Artistic nor in
/usr/share/doc/base-files/README nor in
/usr/share/doc/base-files/changelog.gz is declared (or even hinted)
which version or variant of "The Artistic License" is shipped in
/usr/share/common-licenses/Artistic.

According to https://spdx.org/licenses/ there are at least five
registered versions and variants of the Artistic License:

  * Artistic License 1.0
  * Artistic License 1.0 (Perl)
  * Artistic License 1.0 w/clause 8
  * Artistic License 2.0
  * Clarified Artistic License

According to "dwdiff -c", our /usr/share/common-licenses/Artistic is
actually the "Artistic License 1.0 (Perl)" license.

Please clearly state inside the file but also in the README which
version and variant of the Artistic License is shipped with the package.

A bit of background about some of the variants and versions is at

Yes, that's it!

If you use NTP and tell the kernel to adjust the system time, that
causes the kernel to periodically write the system time to the RTC too,
because the system time will be more accurate.

For hysterical raisins, the first call to settimeofday() that specifies
a 'time zone' (local time offset) implicitly sets whether the RTC is
supposed to hold local time or UTC: if the time value is unspecified and
the time offset is non-zero then the RTC holds local time, otherwise it
holds UTC. There is no way to change this later!

'hwclock --hctosys' specifies both time value and time offset, and
therefore implicitly configures the RTC to hold UTC (but only when NTP
is used and it is written periodically by the kernel).

So we absolutely have to run 'hwclock --systz' first. We could *also*
run 'hwclock --hctosys' straight after that.

Ben.

Hi,
Do you have a URL to that statement?
Because if they still build their x86 package inside an i386 emulator
like before, that thing is not an actual bug upstream and will thus
/never/ get fixed.

Bug#764551: irssi: Irssi segfaults when dbd-mysql connection is attempted in perl script

2014-10-08 Thread Michiel Holtkamp
Package: irssi
Version: 0.8.16-1+b1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

I have some scripts that use a connection to mysql and after I restarted
my irssi it reliably segfaults each time a mysql connection is attempted
in a script.

I'm not sure when exactly this happened, but I upgrade my packages regularly
(I run debian testing). I have tested with packages from stable, everything
seems to work normally.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

Quick way to test is to run the following command in (bare, no scripts) irssi:

/script exec use DBI; DBI->connect("DBI:mysql:_db:_host:3306:", "_user",
"_pass");

This will try to connect to a non-existing host with a non-existing user/pass.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

A segmentation fault (see below for more information and gdb backtrace).

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

An error message like the following:

DBI connect('_db:_host:3306:','_user',...) failed: Unknown MySQL server host
'_host' (0)

   * Package versions affected/NOT affected

Versions of packages that DO cause segfaults:
ii irssi 0.8.16-1+b1
ii libdbd-mysql-perl 4.028-2+b1
ii libdbi-perl1.631-3+b1
ii libmysqlclient18:amd64 5.5.37-0+wheezy1
ii libperl5.205.20.1-1

Also tried irssi from experimental (0.8.17~rc1-1+b1, also segfaults),
and with libmysqlclient18 from testing (5.5.39-1, also segfaults).

The versions from stable do NOT segfault:
ii irssi0.8.15-5
ii libdbd-mysql-perl4.021-1+b1
ii libdbi-perl 1.622-1+deb7u1
ii libmysqlclient18:amd64 5.5.37-0+wheezy1
ii libperl5.14 5.14.2-21+deb7u1

Since the irssi version and the perl versions are closely linked, I could
not easily test different versions of libaries seperately.

* Irssi dependence

A simple test without irssi behaves as expected for ALL package versions and
gives the expected error message (and no segfault):

  $ perl -e 'use DBI; DBI->connect("DBI:mysql:_db:_host:3306:", "_user",
"_pass");'
DBI connect('_db:_host:3306:','_user',...) failed: Unknown MySQL server host
'_host' (0) at -e line 1.

This shows that the problem only occurs when it is run inside irssi, but not
with a standalone perl (i.e. NO segfaults with the perl5.20 nor with the
perl5.14 versions).

* Backtrace

The following backtrace was generated from a core file from an affected irssi.
It was run with a new home-directory (~/.irssi-bare), so it uses default
configuration and NO scripts were loaded.

The backtrace always shows that the segfault is always in the same spot, in
vfprintf:

Bug#681572: tested patch #in in http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?35757

2014-10-08 Thread Alexander Wuerstlein
Hello,

I've tested the patches in comments #4 and #5 in
http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?35757

#4 seems to fix the problem here that is reproducible as described in the
original submission in http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?35757. This problem
occured for me in Debian stable with my screenrc (I can attach it if you
need it).

The patch from #5 alone doesn't seem to fix the issue, but it might be a
good idea to apply it anyways. I'll install patched packages around
here, test them further and report back.

Ciao,

Alexander Wuerstlein.

That got me thinking. I do have ntp enabled.

After disabling the ntp service, my hwclock is no longer incorrectly set
and I no longer get the fsck errors.

Does ntp and hwclock --hctosys not play well together?

I finally found time to import the upstream release 2.0.6, backport the
preliminary upstream changes for wxWidgets 3.0.1 from r13403, and pushed
everything to our git repository. Your patch needs to be forward ported,
which I will try to do when I have some spare time (knowing that it
should be done ASAP due to the nearing freeze). I would be happy to get
help forward porting the patch.

PS: I was reluctant to upload the debdiff because I liked to see the
patch for 2.0.6 (which has autoreconf fixed). Upstream want to get wx3.0
support in for 2.0.7 and is actively working on getting it in the svn
repository. So you could provide the missing bits and we will get
upstream to test your proposed changes (when I commit them to the
upstream repository).

I don't think the hwclock is set on shutdown at all under systemd.
Under sysvinit there is /etc/init.d/hwclock.sh which runs hwclock
--systohc. Afaics that's the reason why --hctosys during boot doesn't
have any ill effects under sysvinit.

Bug#764548: chromium: fails to build due to missing libgnome-keyring-dev build-dependency

2014-10-08 Thread Andreas Cadhalpun

Source: chromium-browser
Version: 37.0.2062.120-4
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source

Dear Maintainer,

chromium failed to build on amd64 [1]:
Package gnome-keyring-1 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gnome-keyring-1.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'gnome-keyring-1' found

This is due to a missing build-dependency on libgnome-keyring-dev.

Even with that installed the binary package misses a dependency on
libgnome-keyring0, because 'linux_link_gnome_keyring=1' is not added to
the defines.

Additionally h264 support got disabled, because 'proprietary_codecs=1'
is not used anymore.

Attached patch fixes these issues, please consider applying it.

Best regards,
Andreas

PS: Please keep the git repository up to date. (Currently the last known
upload there is 37.0.2062.120-2.) This would help with figuring out what
changelog entries like 'Merge changes from the experimental branch' mean.

E.g. what happened with the disable/google-api-warning.patch?

Bug#764472: cups creates millions of temporary files when printing

Hello Antonio,

Thank you for your report. The first thing to say is that this is very
likely not to be a bug in cups. Please see

Millions of links would imply lots of printing taking place and not just
twice. Is that the case? Also, does it occur with other applications? We
really need to track down under what circumstances the files are created
and why they are not deleted by the application.

Do you mean it hangs indefinitely and the machine has to powered off to
be restarted?

I'm surprised 'ls -l' doesn't work. Is there any error message? What
about 'ls -l | head'.

'rm -r /tmp2' should delete /tmp2.

Brian.

Is the system clock consistent with the RTC after each boot? If so, the
RTC is being set during shutdown as if it's UTC, not local time. If
not, then there is a double adjustment during boot.

So far I've only tested in a QEMU VM and it's possible the RTC doesn't
persist across reboots in the way it should.

the script(1) in util-linux 2.25.1 is broken, whereas the one

2014-10-08 Thread Felipe Sateler
Package: ntp
Version: 1:4.2.6.p5+dfsg-3.1

The ntp init script has this check:

Which means that if ntp has been removed but not purged, the ntp script
will fail at boot. With systemd actually checking the return code of
init scripts, this results in the system being flagged as not correctly
booted.

The script should return 0 if the daemon is not executable

If I set my timezone to Amerika/New York, the hwclock jumps forward for
+4 hours on each boot. This doesn't trigger the fsck error though.
So maybe you need to test this you need to set this to a timezone which
is UTC+X

Bug#764542: debconf: potential filesystem corruption

2014-10-08 Thread westlake

Package: debconf
Version: 1.5.49
Severity: important

when there's low ram available and dpkg-reconfigure is issued (eg,
dpkg-reconfigure locales), if there are premature "exits" when building
locales it could lead to a filesystem corruption.

This happened to me more than once where I was using a 128MB ram for
kvm, and there was less than 64 megs of ram available for
dpkg-reconfigure..

I wouldn't expect filesystem corruption but there was something of it as
I was forced to use fsck on boot-up.

There is a filesystem issue, I didn't want to believe it until it
happened twice with two separate kvm VMs. The disks are "virtual"
isolating the diagnosis it could be a potential hardware problem. It
could also be replicated more than once.

Steps
->dpkg-reconfigure locales would run but would have crash-exits when
when trying to generate locales.

->type "reboot". On the next boot-up there would be complaint of
filesystem integrity and fsck would run.

^ These two steps was tried on two different kvms but with the same
Debian, and same amount of ram reservation.

(Note: the "free" ram available is less than 64 MB, locales tried were
en_CA.UTF-8 and en_US.UTF-8)

If more logging data is needed, I can try to see if I can do that.
thanks

What's your timezone? Mine is Europe/Berlin.
On each reboot, my hwclock will be off by another -2 hours.
So if it's 12:00 local time, after reboot, my hwclock will be set to
10:00, after another reboot it is set to 08:00 and so on (checked with
hwclock --debug).

Bug#764541: gsm3: When changing user, the sound is not stopped

2014-10-08 Thread Thibaut
Package: gsm3
Version: gnome3
Severity: minor

If a sound is playing on the speaker when a user switch its session to an other
user, the sound is still playing.
When a user as started playing a sound (for example through a youtube video
playing on iceweasel), a user on an other session will not be able to play a
sound. In the sound option menu, the speakers are not visible. Only the
internal audio is accessible.

To play a sound on the speakers, it is needed to switch back to the first user
that played a sound and close the software (for youtube, closing the tab is
enough).

Just a random thought, are you sure this was a *new* install of
 libapache2-mod-wsgi?

If you had manually deleted the conffile, and then upgraded the package,
the conffile won't get recreated.

Or if you had previously installed the package, and removed it without
purging it, and then manually deleted the conffile.

I don't know if this is your problem or not, just something that could be
the problem.

Unfortunately you didn't quote the output of aptitude which would have
helped to shed light on the issue.

Hi,

I found some other problem, if you ty to remove the open-vm-tools-desktop

Its actually not possible to remove it after starting the desktop UI,
might be a problem for upgrading aswell?

If you have a look at the init script, the relevant part is the
unblock_vmblock_clients function:

https://github.com/nolange/pkg-open-vm-tools/blob/master/debian/open-vm-tools.init

After calling it the filesystem should be easily unmounted

(Anyway, is it a good idea to cancel the removal/upgrade of the package -
maybe this should be forced even if in use?)

Bug#764540: wheezy-pu: package glibc/2.13-38+deb7u5

2014-10-08 Thread Aurelien Jarno
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
Tags: wheezy
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: pu

Dear release managers,

I would like to do an update of eglibc in wheezy, with the patches we
have accumulated in the SVN over the last months. I understand that
it's a bit late with the stable release schedule, that said all this
patches have been upstream and in jessie/sid for months.

This version fixes a regression introduced by the recent security
uploads, a stack overflow that the security team hasn't consider it
serious enough to warrant a DSA, and two annoying issues already fixed
in jessie/sid for which users asked for a backport. Here is the
corresponding changelog:

| eglibc (2.13-38+deb7u5) wheezy; urgency=medium
|
| * debian/patches/any/cvs-resolv-reuse-fd.diff: new patch from upstream
| to fix invalid file descriptor reuse while sending DNS query. Closes:
| #722075, #756343.

This is a single line fix to reload a variable instead of keeping it
initialized to the previous value. This bug got more attention now that
more people use golang.

| * debian/patches/any/cvs-CVE-2013-4357.diff: new patch from upstream to
| fix stack overflow issues. Closes: #742925.

This is yet another fix for stack overflow issues in the GNU libc, that
have been missed in the previous CVEs. The idea is to not use alloca on
bug amount of memory and either to fail or to use malloc instead.

| * debian/patches/any/submitted-CVE-2014-0475.diff: update from upstream
| to fix a localplt regression introduced in version 2.13-38+deb7u3.

This is a very small patch to not access memmem through PLT for internal
usage. See https://sourceware.org/glibc/wiki/Testing/Check-localplt

| * patches/any/cvs-dlopen-tls-memleak.patch: new patch from upstream to
| fix a memory leak with dlopen() and thread-local storage variables.
| Closes: #763559.

This patch fixes a memory leak happening mostly when loading a C++
library with dlopen().

| -- Aurelien Jarno Wed, 08 Oct 2014 22:50:01 +0200

You will find the full debdiff from the latest security update below.

Thanks for considering.

The problematic code is inlined from a wx API header, so I suspect not,
but maybe there's something in the rebuilt library too.

Yes, that sounds about right.

Even if the issue is header-only, it would definitely be good to retest
with 3.0.2-1 (in unstable only currently) in case there are changes in
the new upstream version which have solved this issue, especially as
Johan reports sage now builds OK.

Bug#764539: [systemd] Dependency failed for Swap

2014-10-08 Thread Francesco Muzio

Package: systemd
Version: 215-5+b1
Severity: important

Dear maintainers,

after the upgrade to version 215-5+b1 I began to have this problem at boot:

the "swapon" operation fails during the boot, and it fails after 90
seconds of delayed boot.

I see on the screen the message "A start job is running for..." for 90
secs, then "Dependency failed for
/dev/disk/by-uuid/68fc3a91-1f31-4bf3-b436-b1086e664b88" and "Dependency
failed for Swap"

if I do a manual
swapon /dev/sdc2
works, and works also with
swapon /dev/disk/by-uuid/68fc3a91-1f31-4bf3-b436-b1086e664b88

instead, the command
systemctl start
dev-disk-by\\x2duuid-68fc3a91\\x2d1f31\\x2d4bf3\\x2db436\\x2db1086e664b88.swap
fails with the same behaviour experienced during the boot (90 secs of
waiting)

and, it's curious: if I do a
swapoff /dev/sdc2
the
systemctl start
dev-disk-by\\x2duuid-68fc3a91\\x2d1f31\\x2d4bf3\\x2db436\\x2db1086e664b88.swap

works.

why? there are two "swapon" launched by systemd?

some other useful information:

$ ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid/68fc3a91-1f31-4bf3-b436-b1086e664b88
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 ott 8 23:11
/dev/disk/by-uuid/68fc3a91-1f31-4bf3-b436-b1086e664b88 -> ../../sdc2

$ cat /etc/fstab | grep swap
UUID=68fc3a91-1f31-4bf3-b436-b1086e664b88   noneswap sw
0 0

thanks in advance

Hello,

Hardened build features used through dpkg-buildflags are all used in the
upstream build system (plus bindow and pie).
However, the FORTIFY_SOURCE CPPFLAGS is not applied because gcc optimizations
are not used, see dpkg-buildflags(1) for more informations.
Adding -O2 to CFLAGS in debian/rules seems to be sufficient to enable
fortify_source.

Please also note that blhc report false positives against build flags
because upstream flags are not equals to Debian choices:
* CFLAGS

   -fno-strict-aliasing -fno-strict-overflow -fstack-protector-all
 + dpkg-buildflags:
   -fstack-protector-strong -Wformat -Werror=format-security

Bug#749136: jellyfish: FTBFS with clang instead of gcc

2014-10-08 Thread Martin Steghöfer

Hi Andreas!

El 08/10/14 a les 21:06, Andreas Tille ha escrit:

Would you volunteer to check the current Git repository regarding the
clang issue? It's not ready yet but the state is good enough to look
into the clang build.

The current state of the package in Debian-Med's git repository has the
exact same issues as upstream HEAD (no more, no less). Therefore it
would be adequate to use the patching from my upstream pull request:

https://github.com/gmarcais/Jellyfish/pull/21

Btw. I think you're missing the tag "upstream/2.1.4" in order to make
git-buildpackage build it without complaints.

Sorry I can't be of any help there. I have no clue about ruby packaging.

Me neither but it's done and thanks to super fast ftpmaster yaggo is
just in unstable.

Cool, that was quick! :-)

For the record: The patch has been merged into upstream git
(https://github.com/gmarcais/Jellyfish/pull/21) and will therefore
be part of the next Release v2.1.5 - which could take a while to be
published.

Since I'm not that deep into Github: What would be the most
straightforward way to obtain these patches (and turn them into
quilt patches)?

You can just append a suffix ".patch" to the URLs of commits (e.g.
https://github.com/martin-steghoefer/Jellyfish/commit/780f2ec4.patch) or
complete pull requests (e.g.
https://github.com/gmarcais/Jellyfish/pull/21.patch), which will give
you a patch in git format. This is something that quilt already accepts,
although it is probably not "debianized" enough to put it into a package
like this (additional git-specific meta-data, wrong tagging format,
patch divided in several sections by commits). You can fix that by
letting quilt rewrite the patch with "dquilt refresh" (when it is the
top of the quilt stack) and then adding the Debian tagging.

I've done it for the pull request that is relevant here and attached it
to this message.

Cheers,
Martin

Description: Fix compilation using the "clang" compiler
This fixes 2 issues with the clang compilation:
1.) The length of the array defined locally in array::_get_val
cannot be detected to be constant by a standard C++ compiler.
GCC's g++ accepts the code anyway because of its ample support
for variable-length arrays (VLAs). Clang doesn't support VLAs
for non-POD (Plain Old Type) types. Starting from version 3.5,
however, it is able to detect the constant nature of the value
used (using non-standard language features, too) and therefore
doesn't need LVAs here. However, clang compilers before 3.5 as
well as compilers that support only pure C++ need this patching.
2.) The clang compiler warns about the "register" keyword being
deprecated in C++11. As the Jellyfish build system treats
warnings as errors, this breaks the build with clang. I suggest
to remove the keyword instead of silencing the warning because
most modern compilers (e.g. the recent versions of GCC, clang
and Visual Studio) ignore the keyword in their optimization
 algorithms anyway.
