Bug#554122: usbutils: usbreset

2014-10-25 Thread Matt Taggart
Tonight I needed a way to reset a usb device remotely. I started searching
around and found a few things on the internet. And then I thought, "this is
something the usbutils package should do" and I checked the BTS

only to find I already filed a wishlist bug for that in Nov 2009...

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=554122

my memory is not what it used to be :/
Anyway here are some newer links with better versions,

http://marc.info/?l=linux-usb&m=121459435621262&w=2
http://www.roman10.net/how-to-reset-usb-device-in-linux/
http://www.roman10.net/how-to-reset-usb-device-in-linuxusing-libusb/

What do you think about including this?

Thanks,

Well, this is not really an effect of the VCS maintenance. It
is simply because your timestamp was not correct.

You should commit everything that's needed to build the package

Drop the build-dep on openmpi-gcc.

You must make sure that the first build dependency in a set of
alternative build-deps is always installable, otherwise it's going to
FTBFS on the buildds (even if it builds fine for you locally). This
isn't an arch-specific problem if that's what you're concerned about;
if you had uploaded source+i386 (instead of amd64) packages, the amd64
build would have failed on the buildds instead.

Vincent

Bug#766581: ibus: After upgrade to 1.5.9-1, can not input chinese (class quick)

2014-10-25 Thread Osamu Aoki
Hi,

This is strange.

Here, just after installing these tibus-able-chinese packages did not
cause to show newly installed methods in GNOME SHELL Keyboard source
list. But after rebooting system (I think we need to restart ibus only
but this is the surest method to parameters for all installed IM for
sure.), I can see all the table method here. Please note that settings
by the ibus-setup command is not used in GNOME.

And you say you rebooted to check.

By the way, have you had them functional previously? Or you just
installed tham now? (Sounds like you had working system. But ... to be
sure, I am asking.)

So you are gdm3 to boot.

Aha, you are XFce user. There you are using ibus-setup commantd to
setup input method. What do you see in the ibus-setup dialog. Can you
add "Input Method" for your choice there. Unless you do, you get no
access.

Looks good UTF-8.

Since I have no problem under GNOME, let me check XFce.

Bug#766819: cinnamon freezes for a minute or so, when opening images or text with gnome/gtk apps and when closing them later on

2014-10-25 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
affects 766819 + systemd gvfs openafs-client
stop

(I'm adding affects for all the packages which possibly play a role in
leading to this issue, please remove yourself when you think it doesn't
apply).

I've downgraded basically most of the packages from the log from before
which could be remotely reason for this (gtk, etc.) but no effect.

I probably found the reason though.

But first some further information:
- iceweasel is not affected
- evince is affected
- when cinnamon starts it basically freezes during start for a while
- it also happens sometimes when switching workspaces
- it does not happen when with eog/etc. when started via plain X (after
startx).

One thing cured the whole issue:
I've noted that since a few days openafs-client was started by systemd,
and did some partial mount:
# l /afs/
total 8,2k
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 2,1k Jan 1 1970 .
drwxr-xr-x 26 root root 4,1k Oct 22 06:06 ..
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 2,1k Jan 1 1970 .:mount

After:
# systemctl stop afs.mount
# systemctl stop openafs-client.service
# systemctl disable openafs-client.service

Cinnamon worked again perfectly.

So there seem to be some issues now
1) Why did systemd enable openafs-client? I had it clearly disabled
during sysvinit times and it's probably bad to have it automagically
enabled. (What if it does so with insecure services as well?)

2) Why is cinnamon related but not plain X? I'd suspect gvfs is the
reasons.
Which leads to the questions: Why can gvfs block the whole GUI, and why
doesn't it handle a broken /afs gracefully and what the hell has it to
do with afs anyway?

3) What is broken with openafs-client?
It breaks one stopping/starting it:
# systemctl status openafs-client.service
● openafs-client.service - OpenAFS client
   Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/openafs-client.service; disabled)

Bug#766822: autoconf-archive: AX_CHECK_GL does not find libGL.so when glx-diversions is installed

2014-10-25 Thread Jerome Benoit
Package: autoconf-archive

Dear Maintainer,

it appears that AX_CHECK_GL does not find libGL.so when glx-diversions is
installed;
I guess that a similar issue also exist for AX_CHECK_GLU and AX_CHECK_GLUT.
We can work around the issue by introducing a Build-Conflicts against
glx-diversions
in d/control, when applicable. It is also noticeable that glx-diversions is in
contrib.

Thanks,
Jerome

Bug#766821: relion: FTBFS: B-D on nonexistent openmpi-gcc

2014-10-25 Thread Aaron M. Ucko
Source: relion
Version: 1.3+dfsg-1
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source

Automatic builds of relion have been failing because it declares a
build dependency on the nonexistent openmpi-gcc package. Yes, it
lists libopenmpi-dev as an alternative; however, for the sake of
better reproducibility, Debian's autobuilders are configured to
consider alternatives only when forced to by explicit architecture
restrictions on otherwise preferred choices.

Could you please take a look?

Thanks!

Bug#766819: cinnamon freezes for a minute or so, when opening images or text with gnome/gtk apps and when closing them later on

2014-10-25 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
Package: cinnamon
Version: 2.2.16-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi.

This happened already with 2.2.16-3 since a day or two (don't remember when
it started exactly the first time) and continues with -4.

Cinnamon freezes for something between 30 seconds and a minute every time
I open some text file with gedit or an image or svg with eog or inkscape.

And for the same time when closing that window later on (but interestingly
not when I Ctrl-C the respective process, e.g. eog.).

It also seems that sometime it's a two step freeze, so after some time of
waiting, e.g. eog shows's up already with some image rendered, but one
sees that the fonts in the menu of eog don't fit, as if they would be from
a image that would be zoomed. Waiting some more 20 secs, and one sees the
window growing a bit and the fonts drawn correctly.

During that the system freezes, well at least cinnamon,.. clock applet, etc.
everything dead.
But one can move the mouse and one can switch to the console (Ctrl-Alt-F*).
Working there works, so one might conclude that other processes are not
affected, yet I'm not totally sure about this, since it looked a few times
as if log messages to syslog/journalctl are delayed during the freeze.

The freeze is 100% reproducible for me, e.g. always when I open such image
with eog, or inkscape, or open text with gedit.
I get the freeze.

It does not happen, when I open the same files with display(1) or vi.

There is no logging from kernel or syslog which seems to be related in any
way, the only thing at all would be:
Oct 26 04:13:08 heisenberg /etc/gdm3/Xsession[4280]:
(cinnamon-settings-daemon:4338): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **:
g_dbus_proxy_get_object_path: assertion 'G_IS_DBUS_PROXY (proxy)' failed
Oct 26 04:13:08 heisenberg /etc/gdm3/Xsession[4280]:
(cinnamon-settings-daemon:4338): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **:
g_dbus_proxy_get_object_path: assertion 'G_IS_DBUS_PROXY (proxy)' failed

but these do not correlate with the freeze (or directly after) and also
appear without any freeze.

The laptop where this happens is quite powerfull, 8 core, 16GB RAM, SSD...
so I doubt it's a hardware performance issue.
Neither do I see any processes in uninterruptible sleep (D) or running (R)
during the freeze (I quickly change to the console and to ps ax).

Since it happened before I've updated cinnamon to -3, it's possibly not
even cinnamon's fault,... just don't know where to start else.

Attached is my aptitude log from the last days,... but nothing seems
to be really related at a first glance.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Chris.

I filed this against mate-panel as that's what provides the Notification
Area applet. I agree that GTK 3.14 is to blame -- I see the issue
primarily in GTK 3 apps.

I reported this issue upstream as well:
https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-panel/issues/248. There's a related
issue that documents additional GTK 3.14 brokenness:
https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-panel/issues/233.

I'm not sure the best course of action here. If it's GTK 3.14 behavior
we may not be able to work around it. I was hoping that perhaps the
applet could specify the click behavior, but I'm not sure.

Thanks,

Bug#766619: cross-gcc-4.9-armhf is functional incomplete

Using this armhf bug to reply, but the same discussion applies to all
of the cross-gcc-4.9- packages.

> This cross compiler is functional incomplete. It doesn't provide the same
> frontends that the native compiler provides, and it unusable to cross build
> gcc-4.9 itself.
>

> native compiler.

This is not a 'grave' bug: that is defined as
"makes the package in question unusable or mostly so, or causes data
loss, or introduces a security hole allowing access to the accounts of
users who use the package."

These cross-compiler packages work fine for building most packages in
the archive (that have satisfiable cross-dependencies and are
cross-buildable at all), or for building upstream software such as
kernels. Yes, they are not sufficient to build the gcc packages in the
archive (because that needs gccgo and objectivec compilers too), but
it would be easy to build those compilers as well, we just started
with gcc, and g++ as that's 90% of what most people want and gfortran
too as it's simple.

Starting relatively small and simple in the archive seemed wise,
rather than building every compiler in the collection (and all the
gcc-defaults meta-packages that go with them).

So you will have to explain why grave is a suitable severity.

It seems to me that cross-toolchains which work usefully (we have
cross-gcc-4.9- and cross-gcc-defaults packages to provide the
corresponding symlinks) and that combo (along with the cross-binutils
packages), should not be prevented from entering testing just because
they are not yet complete enough to build gcc itself.

There is significant demand for cross-toolchains in stable - we get
requests for them often. I think we should try to satisfy that demand,
rather than making users wait another 2 years, or have to continue to
use 3rd-party repositories.

We do not yet have the crossbuild-essential packages which make the
toolchains work automatically inside sbuild, because you uploaded
those to experimental rather than unstable. I don't know if that can
be got into unstable/testing for jessie or not, but it's something
that can be dealt with quite simply by changing sbuild config, if not.

Where does the requirement that 'cross compilers must be functionally
equivalent to native compilers before they can enter testing' come
from?

My experience is that nearly all users are only interested in gcc and
g++, and mostly for arm flavours, but with some demand for other
target arches. These toolchains are therefore functional for most
people's purposes, even though they don't yet build all the compilers
that gcc supports. I think that is a very useful start, and we can
make them more complete over time.

There will be many packages which don't yet cross-build in Jessie, but
mostly due to things that prevent build-deps being installed when
crossing (e.g. pkg-config (#759556), perl/multiarch embedded
interpreters (717882), flex(761449), and not-coinstallable -dev
packages). Having the cross-toolchains (and build-profiles support)
available in the normal release makes it easier for people to work on
this stuff.

So I see no reason to block these packages because they do not include
cross-gobjc, cross-gccgo, cross-gcj etc.

Bug#766815: installation-reports: please omit "quiet" option

2014-10-25 Thread lee
Package: installation-reports
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

When booting the amd64 installer on a machine with a 32bit CPU, you get
so far as to the menu from which you can select the install options.
When you select "install", you're being left with a blue screen and a few
lines with colourful pixels on top of the screen, and nothing further
happens.

The xSeries 345 isn't the only machine this happens with. Perhaps the
problem is specific to old ATI cards like the mach64.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

There should be the message displayed that you need to use a
32bit version of the installer for a 32bit machine. (I didn't
know it was a 32bit machine and started to think that either
the install media is damaged, the hardware is broken or that
there's some issue with the graphics card ... Displaying the
32bit message right away would have saved quite some trouble and
time.)

The message is displayed correctly when you edit the kernel command
line before booting and remove the "quiet" option.

I strongly recommend to change the installer to *not* use the quiet
option. Especially with the installer, there is much point in being
able to see all messages, and not everyone installs Debian on up-to-date
and/or fully known hardware.

Besides, the "quiet" option shouldn't be used by default after the
installation has completed, either. If someone wants to suppress the
messages, they can always add this option later. I have resorted to
remove this option as part of the installation process and am getting
much better results simply because I can see what's going on.

*** End of the template - remove these lines ***

Sorry I didn’t noticed this issue sooner. It’s too late for Jessie (I
don’t foresee myself being able to help debugging the issue in the next
hours), but hopefully, we’ll be able to do a better job for Jessie+1.

There was a new upstream version of tt-rss four days ago, looks like they
didn’t update their embedded dojo version, but maybe something changed wrt
that issue anyway.

Bug#766814: Passes odd "yes" parameter to cron daemon in cron.service

Package: cron
Version: 3.0pl1-126

Hi,

I think the latest change in 3.0pl1-125 regarding #754279 is a bit odd,
since it changed cron.service to:
ExecStart=/usr/sbin/cron -f $READ_ENV $EXTRA_OPTS

I think the $READ_ENV parameter in that context doesn't make any sense
and should be dropped. Right now, when running cron under sytemd, I get

Bug#766299: nxproxy: BIG-REQUESTS patch builds but fails at runtime

2014-10-25 Thread paul . szabo
Dear Mike,

> I test your patch and it results in several nxproxy crashes every 1-2
> minutes. The output of the session.log file you can find below.
> ...
> Error: Can't add a message of 3306686292 bytes to write buffer.
> Error: Assuming error handling data in context [B].

That comes from WriteBuffer::addMessage(), line 192 of WriteBuffer.cpp;
the reported length of 3GB is ridiculous.

This error does not seem to be directly caused by my patches, because
the "sanity check" lines

  if (dataLength < 8 || dataLength > 1024*1024*1024)
  {
#ifdef WARNING
*logofs << "BIG-REQUESTS with unacceptable dataLength="
<< dataLength << ", now set to 8.\n" << logofs_flush;
#endif
dataLength = 8;
  }

in my patched ClientReadBuffer.cpp did not "fire". (You do have WARNING
on, right?)

I would suggest to scrutinize your data (X11 protocol input) stream.
Maybe I could help, if I could reproduce your crashes. I do not use
nxagent (do not have it now, do not intend to use it). Is there a way
to elicit your error, by having some (common) X client display to an
nxproxy-ied server?

Maybe someone should add sanity checks to ClientChannel.cpp, there are
many places where data lengths and similar are "blindly" accepted from
the input stream... as I had pointed out.

(This is so cute, so back-to-front: the maintainer asking me for help in
fixing his crash. No matter, I also want to make nxproxy useable, I am
in the process of trying to use it myself.)

Bug#542213: openafs-modules-2.6.30-1-686-bigmem: Kernel oops

2014-10-25 Thread Andrew Deason
This bug is the same as (or at least very similar to) upstream bug
128767 . It was
due to certain disk errors being ignored, which caused corruption in the
dcache hash chains that would go unnoticed for a long time (until a
panic like the one in this bug report ocurred, much later).

There were a variety of different commits to track this down or fix it,
the last of which is commit c8ffb8b9eefc8c2a0c6b41e3e29c0f03940a5fcf,
which was in 1.6.6. The actual panic in this bug report was maybe
'fixed' a bit before that, but I'd need to go looking to get more info.

Yair, if you still care about this, can I assume you haven't seen this
panic in a while?

I defer to Ben if he wants to close this or get confirmation, etc etc.

It would be nice if the maintainers of the two packages could find a way

To fix this bug, I'll NMU soon with the attached patch.

Note that this old bug was caused when upgrading from <3.1.0-2
which is no longer supported. Anyway, this potentially security
issue should be fixed.

Bug#766806: mate-power-manager: LCD brightness changes on login while running on battery power

2014-10-25 Thread Ayke van Laethem
Package: mate-power-manager
Version: 1.8.1+dfsg1-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

On login, the LCD brightness is changed to the value in the Power Management
Preferences, under the "On AC Power" tab. This happens not only on AC power (as
expected), but also when running a laptop on battery power, which I would not
expect (I would expect the value listed there only to be applied on AC power,
not on battery power).

Oddly, when changing the brightness slider in the settings ("Set display
brightness to"), the new brightness is applied immediately when on AC power,
but is not (immediately) applied when running on battery power.

As a separate issue, but I'm mentioning it here anyway as it's related, there
is no way to *not* change brightness when running on AC power on login (and,
due to this bug, also on battery power). I personally prefer to set the
brightness depending on the environment, not (normally) based on battery power.
I can report a different bug for this if necessary, but maybe that feature is
too close to the freeze to be added anyway.

Here are my power management preferences:

~$ dconf dump /org/mate/power-manager/
[/]
button-power='interactive'
sleep-display-battery=600
brightness-ac=22.0
info-last-device='/org/freedesktop/UPower/devices/mouse_0003o046DoC52Bx0004'
backlight-battery-reduce=false
button-lid-ac='nothing'
spindown-enable-battery=true
info-stats-graph-points=true
info-stats-graph-smooth=false
action-critical-battery='suspend'
button-suspend='suspend'
info-history-graph-points=true
info-history-time=86400
info-page-number=0
idle-dim-ac=false
info-history-type='charge'
idle-dim-battery=false
button-lid-battery='suspend'
info-stats-type='charge-data'
info-history-graph-smooth=false
icon-policy='never'

By changing the "Set display brightness to" setting a few times and logging out
and back in, I have confirmed it is really set to that setting. And it is that
setting it is set to when it is on battery power as well.

I have attached a screenshot of the Power Management Preferences window.

Bug#766805: giira buildable on many architectures but resulting binaries are only installable on amd64

2014-10-25 Thread peter green

Package: giira
Severity: serious

Your package is buildable on most debian architectures (it failed to
build on kfreebsd and it's build-depends are uninstallable on hurd and
sparc) but of the resulting binaries only the arm64 one is installable
due to a dependency on bowtie2.

It appears that most of the unistallable binaries have been removed but
they will reappear with any updates (including security updates) and
will cause problems getting those updates into stable/testing so this
needs to be fixed. There are four possible fixes.

1: make bowtie2 build and work on all release architectures
2: make the package work without bowtie2 (possiblly less efficiently)
and make the bowtie2 dependency architecture specific.
3: add a build-time depdendency on bowtie2 (this wastes a little buildd
time/bandwidth if the dependency is not really needed at build-time but
has the advantage over option 4 that if/when bowtie2 is ported to new
architectures giira will follow automatically)
4: set the architecture field for giira so it's only built on
architectures where bowtie2 is known to be available.

Bug#762368: cinnamon: keyboard shortcuts ignore alt modifier

2014-10-25 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
Hey Margarita.

Maybe the problems with Super are related to this:
https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/2344
?
I'm not sure how far the fixes mentioned there actually made it in
already...

At least I cannot freely reassign , yet,... but I can reassign
as a single keyboard shortcut (which I typically use to launch
the terminal, though this doesn't yet work with the "Terminal Launcher",
but only with a custom launcher for it)

Cheers,
Chris.

Sure. The message could say: "If you disable the gnome-keyring
integration, make sure to install an alternative pinentry program like
pinentry-gtk2"

Problem solved.

Bug#766804: gnome-orca: app-specific preferences: problem to set bindings

2014-10-25 Thread Jean-Philippe MENGUAL
Package: gnome-orca
Version: 3.14.0-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

orca 3.14.0, MATE, Iceweasel.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

Here's an example:
1. ins-ctrl-space from Iceweasel
2. Bindings tab
3. Change backslash binding to exclam
4. OK or Apply, then change another binding, set it to backslash

   * What was the outcome of this action?

1. Orca says that "backslash" is busy. It's false.
2. Orca creates a "double" of the previous binding: one feature bind to exclam,
one bind to backslash, with the same name.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

Orca should know the shortcut has changed, and not create the copy.

Bug#766803: Requesting chocolate-doom enter Debian main

2014-10-25 Thread Simon Howard
Package: chocolate-doom
Version: 2.1.0-1

Chocolate Doom is currently in the contrib section of Debian rather than
main, because it depends on an IWAD file in order to be usable. The
original Doom IWAD files, including the shareware version, are non-free.
Other source ports that are Boom compatible (eg. prboom-plus) use Freedoom
as an IWAD dependency in order to be useable and be in Debian main.
However, this has not been possible for Chocolate Doom because the levels
in Freedoom require a Boom compatible port and do not work with it.

As of the 0.9 release of Freedoom (now in Debian unstable), the FreeDM
spin-off project (package: freedm) is now fully Vanilla Doom compatible and
works perfectly with Chocolate Doom. Chocolate Doom even includes special
code that allows it to integrate with it more nicely (it can load the
DEHACKED lump from the IWAD). The Debian freedm package has been marked as
provides: doom-wad so there should no longer be any obstacle for Chocolate
Doom to be moved to Debian main.

The only possible objection I can think of is that the Debian
chocolate-doom package is structured in a monolithic fashion, also
containing chocolate-heretic, chocolate-hexen and chocolate-strife.
Arguably these binaries should still be in contrib as there aren't free
replacements for the IWADs for these games (Heretic has Blasphemer, but
it's incomplete and isn't in Debian). This would require restructuring the
package to split it into four separate packages, which is probably a good
idea anyway.

Same counts for Sid Xen DomU bootstrapped via xen-tools (at least with
the git version, both with the modification mentioned below as well as
with an unmodified git checkout):

I expected that this would count for xen-tools as well and tried to
fix it by explicitly installing e2fsprogs before initramfs-tools and
the kernel. But the above still happens despite I used this code to
install e2fsprogs, initramfs-tools and kernel:

installDebianPackage ${prefix} e2fsprogs
installDebianPackage ${prefix} initramfs-tools
installDebianPackage ${prefix} $KERNEL_PKG

So I doubt that this can be fixed by reordering the package
installations. (Besides: the log said "e2fsprogs is already the newest
version.", so it didn't change anything.)

The following fsck binary is in the initrd:

# lsinitramfs -l /mnt/tmp//boot/initrd.img-3.16-3-amd64 | fgrep fsck
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root35664 Oct 24 19:02 sbin/fsck

Bug#766802: linux-image-amd64: rt2800usb driver does not include 1b75:a200 USB id's as a supported device

2014-10-25 Thread mmokrejs
Package: linux-image-amd64
Version: 3.2+46
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

I tried an old-ish OvisLink WN-200USB WiFi USB dongle but it is not picked up
by linux kernel (tried initially 3.2+46 provided by Wheezy but later tried even
3.15.3 with same result. Thanks to Geoff Simmons I got it working. Below is
whole recipe. Please contact linux kernel maintainers to add the missing id
 numbers.

Hi Martin,

On Fri, Oct 17, 2014 at 11:20:03PM +0200, Martin Mokrejs wrote:
> while reading https://wiki.debian.org/rt2800usb#supported it seems this
> device is not picked up by the rt2800usb.

Your Ovislink Corp. AirLive WN-200USB wireless LAN adapter (USB ID 1b75:a200,
Ralink RT3070 chip) is not currently defined as a supported device in any
version of the rt2800usb Linux kernel driver code [1] at this time.

This would explain the lack of device interface.

> I just cannot force the 3.10.12 kernel to bind the driver to the device
> and therefore, "iwconfig" does not list ra0 interface.

See above; the driver needs to be informed that your device is supported.
Also, Linux 3.10.2 is not a Linux kernel version currently part of any
Debian release.

On Debian systems, the rt2800usb driver will create a wlanX interface (e.g.
wlan0) by default, not ra0. ra0 was an interface created by earlier Ralink
drivers included in previous Debian releases.

> I created /etc/modprobe.d/ralink.conf file but no luck.

As your device should be supported, you can try using the following commands
(executed as root/superuser) as a workaround to enable device operation:

  # echo rt2800usb >> /etc/modules
  # echo 'install rt2800usb /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install rt2800usb
$CMDLINE_OPTS && echo 1b75 a200 > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/rt2800usb/new_id' >
/etc/modprobe.d/ralink.conf
.. then reload the rt2800usb driver:

  # modprobe -r rt2800usb ; modprobe rt2800usb

.. and reconnect this wireless LAN device.

Based on the manufacturing age of your device, this should allow for device
support with the Linux 3.2 kernel included as part of Debian 7 "Wheezy".

If the commands above are successful for enabling device support, please
consider filing a Debian wishlist bug against an installed Debian Linux
kernel package on your system (e.g. "reportbug linux-image-amd64").

When eventually fixed in Debian, your /etc/modprobe.d/ralink.conf file will
no longer be necessary.

Geoff

Unfortunately:

# journalctl -u systemd-logind.service
No journal files were found.

I have to killall systemd-logind about once every 48 hours to keep the
machine from crashing.

It was running jessie for a long time and recently got updated.

It could but just installing it won't fix anything by itself, you need
to disable the agent functionality in gnome-keyring. Which some people
will do to work around the bug, and if they do it would be nice if
they had a graphical pinentry.

I expected that this would count for xen-tools as well and tried to
fix it by explicitly installing e2fsprogs before initramfs-tools and
the kernel. But the above still happens despite I used this code to
install e2fsprogs, initramfs-tools and kernel:

installDebianPackage ${prefix} e2fsprogs
installDebianPackage ${prefix} initramfs-tools
installDebianPackage ${prefix} $KERNEL_PKG

So I doubt that this can be fixed by reordering the package
installations.

The following fsck binary is in the initrd:

# lsinitramfs -l /mnt/tmp//boot/initrd.img-3.16-3-amd64 | fgrep fsck
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root35664 Oct 24 19:02 sbin/fsck

Bug#766801: mate-applets: battery charge monitor icon goes the reverse order while charging

2014-10-25 Thread Ayke van Laethem
Package: mate-applets
Version: 1.8.1+dfsg1-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

When my laptop is on AC power, the Battery Charge Monitor shows a near-empty
battery icon when the battery has fully recharged, and a full battery when it
is empty. When the laptop (a Lenovo Thinkpad T60) runs on battery power, the
applet works as expected: the battery icon shows a graphic representation of
the actual charge level. I would expect the icon to behave in a similar way
regardless of whether it is charging or not.
(Additionally, when the power plug is inserted or removed, the icon isn't
updated immediately, but I think that issue is only a side effect of this bug).

I have attached a screenshot of the applet when the battery is full.

(This bug, like #766749, has been submitted using a different system
than where it occurs, because sendmail does not work on my laptop for
some reason).

Bug#766800: Accessibility: difficult movement with keyboard

2014-10-25 Thread Jean-Philippe MENGUAL
Package: mate-panel
Version: 1.8.1+dfsg1-1
Severity: normal

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

* What led up to the situation?

 I installed mate-panel, mate-notification-daemon and orca 3.14.

apt-get install mate-core mate-desktop-environment
 mate-notification-daemon dconf-editor at-spi2-core gnome-orca

 export GTK_MODULES=gail:atk-bridge
(export in /etc/profile or in ~/.bash_profile)
 in MATE, alt-f2, orca --replace
If orca doesn't speak while you press keys, as a user, from a
 mate-terminal or on a tty (with DISPLAY=:0 ):
 gsettings set org.mate.interface accessibility true
 gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.a11y.applications screen-reader-enabled true
 gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface toolkit-accessibility true

* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
  ineffective)?

When dropbox or pidgin changes status, no notification. But 9e can see the
status going to the panel via meta-ctrl-tab.

* What was the outcome of this action?

First, alt-ctrl-tab doesn't move the focus on the panel sometimes. The behavior
is random. Sometimes it stays on the bottom panel, sometimes on caja, sometimes
it has success. alt-maj-tab has always success to reach the top panel.
Once here, maj-tab, after f10, can, randomly, render the applets. But it
involves
a random twick, with f10 (twcce), arrow keys, maj-tab, etc. It's really not
 convinient.

* What outcome did you expect instead?

After alt-ctrl-tab, tab or arrow keys should move the focus on this top panel
and I should be able to hear the applet regularly and without all keyboard
 twicks.

*** End of the template - remove these template lines ***

 Thanks

Hi Matt,
can you also provide a mutt -v output of the mutt.org package that you compiled
yourself and where the spam detection works fine?

thanks!

This is debhelper bug. I've just uploaded afterstep 2.2.12-3, which
removes usage of {misc:Depends} as a work-around.

Bug#765964: mate-panel: Some notification menus hide on mouse up in notification area

2014-10-25 Thread Mike Gabriel

Hi Matthew,

On So 19 Okt 2014 19:06:08 CEST, Matthew Horan wrote:

Package: mate-panel

Dear Maintainer,

After a recent system update, clicking certain (redshift-gtk,
NetworkManager Applet) notification icons requires a persistent click in
order for the menu to remain open. Previously, all notification menus
remained open on mouse up.

Confusingly, some icons now remain open on mouse up, for example Steam
and MATE's PulseAudio volume control applet.

I would expect all icons to behave the same -- either remain open on
click (right or left click), or close on mouse up.

I observe this, too.

However, my feeling is that it is related to the recent GTK3 version
bump in Debian (to 3.14). Several GKT3 applets changed their mouse
interaction behaviour...

The changed occurred within the last two weeks or so. The issue is not
mate-panel related, but depends on other things I currently lack to
oversee.

Any idea, what this bug can be reassigned to?

Mike

nautilus-open-terminal should maybe be removed from the archive.

Bug#561281: util-linux hwclock problems with rtc not in utc, resolved?

2014-10-25 Thread Andreas Henriksson
Control: tags -1 + moreinfo

Hello!

Please test and report back if the problem you talked about in
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=561281
are still happening with the version shipped in Debian testing or unstable
(ie. >= 2.25.1-4). Hopefully this is resolved and if I don't get any
feedback I'll close this bug report soon.

Regards,
Andreas Henriksson

Bug#748401: Raising severity to important

2014-10-25 Thread Mike Gabriel

Control: severity -1 important

I guess, it would be good not to break Debian sid rebuilds. Thus,
raising severity.

This issue is not release critical, as there normally are no rebuilds
in testing or stable, but still.

Bug#766799: resizing root partition with resize2fs makes system unbootable

2014-10-25 Thread Dmitry Borisyuk
Package: e2fsprogs
Version: 1.42.12-1
Severity: grave

Dear Maintainer,

Fortunately, this bug happened on a virtual machine,
so I can repeat the experiment if needed.

I have a virtual machine with a 1GB hdd and jessie installed on it.
The hdd has only one partition which is /dev/sda1, and formatted as ext2.

At first, I enlarge (via virtualbox "vboxmanage" command) the hdd size to 2GB.
Then boot the virtual machine.
Then enlarge the root partition to 2GB with cfdisk.
Then reboot. Everything is fine.
Then do

# resize2fs /dev/sda1

It says something like "/dev/sda1 is now 261 (1k) blocks long".
Then reboot. Grub says "error: unknown filesystem" and drops to rescue prompt.
(It might be bug in grub, not e2fsprogs - I'm not sure. Grub version is 2.00-22)

Bug#766798: mutt spam detection fails when header_cache is enabled

2014-10-25 Thread Matt Rechkemmer
Package: mutt
Version: 1.5.21-6.2+deb7u2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation? I was attempting to use mutt's spam
detection to mass delete spam messages in mutt. When header cache is
enabled, spam headers are never identified and tagged within mutt.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
ineffective)? I tested against mutt.org's version of mutt. In that
version, mutt works as expected. When I use the stable version in
 wheezy, the spam detection fails.
   * What was the outcome of this action? Spam headers are properly identified
   and tagged.
   * What outcome did you expect instead? Using Debian's version, mutt's spam
detection mechanism fails when header cache (set header_cache) is enabled.

Bug#766796: konqueror: Konqueror is vulnerable to the Poodle attack

2014-10-25 Thread Patrick Häcker
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:4.14.1-1
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

Dear Maintainer,

according to https://www.poodletest.com/ Konqueror is still vulnerable to the
Poodle attack.
If this is only fixable in KHTML or WebKit, please move the bug there.

As all the other major browsers plan to deactivate SSLv3 support in the near
future, Konqueror should probably do so as well for Jessie.

Kind regards
Patrick

Bug#766795: afterstep not binnmu safe and not installable in sid

2014-10-25 Thread peter green

Package: afterstep
Version: 2.2.12-2+b2
Severity: serious
x-debbugs-cc: pkg-tigervnc-de...@lists.alioth.debian.org

It seems after the binnmu for the libjpeg-turbo transition afterstep is
no longer installable in sid (and hence the binnmu won't migrate and the
transition won't complete in testing).

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
afterstep : Depends: afterstep-data (= 2.2.12-2+b2) but 2.2.12-2 is to
be installed

I haven't checked in detail but I suspect this is caused by use of
link-docs. currently doing link-docs between arch specific packages and
arch all packages is not binnmu safe (and there are aguments as to
whether it should or shuoldn't be).

That's probably where the dpkg-divert dance fails.

I still have no clue what fails here, and if the cause is in the
package or some local glitch, but hopefully we now have enough
information so that someone sees more than me.

Cheers,
gregor

For the documentation, I think these exit codes are arbitrary. But I

Sorry about that. I used awk to select the appropriate lines, and in
some cases the package is in a differently-numbered field. I've
attached one that contains the upgrade and configure lines this time.

> - that 2.27300-1 (tries to) get(s) installed 3 times

I used aptitude, so I'm not sure why that happened. I think aptitude
tries to reinstall the package if it fails the first time.

Bug#766792: packagekit: Does not ship pkla file

2014-10-25 Thread Laurent Bigonville
tag 766792 + patch
thanks

I've attached a pkla file that should work (didn't tested it though).

The lack of this file might explain why I was able to see the offline
update ckeck box when rebooting my machine in gnome-shell on my desktop
running polkit 0.112 and not on my work laptop.

Cheers,

Bug#766442: leaks dockerinit files on upgrade

I believe these are actually left around on purpose, with the intent
being that containers that somehow still have an old version in them
can still work. Generally, upstream regards "/var/lib/docker" as
something that shouldn't really be introspected, so it's really not
much of a surprise that garbage collecting there isn't a big priority.

Now to answer somewhat more directly, I _think_ these old versions
should be OK to remove without ill effect, but upstream is very
explicit that if you're touching "/var/lib/docker" by hand, you get to
keep the pieces.

You've interpreted it correctly here. Upstream decided that it was
better to add an explicit "restart policy" for each container than to
continue to maintain their fragile heuristics for when a container is
deemed appropriate to automatically restart (since it didn't actually
work correctly half the time anyways).

Bug#766790: wxwidgets3.0: ABI break: constants wxLANGUAGE_KOREAN and after renumbered

2014-10-25 Thread Olly Betts
I've looked through the matches for this codesearch query:

http://codesearch.debian.net/search?q=wxLANGUAGE_%28[K-TV-Z]|U[^N]%29+-package%3Awxwidgets2.8+-package%3Awxwidgets3.0+-package%3Awxpython3.0

I skipped those matches which were in non-C++ code or in comments and
checked when the remaining matching packages were last uploaded.

Not in testing or built against wxwidgets2.8:

codeblocks
sitplus

Not in testing:

amule

Uploaded since wxwidgets3.0 3.0.1-1:

audacity
boinc
codelite
guayadeque
hugin
kicad
maitreya

I think these two just need a binnmu, except on arm64 and ppc64el which
built them with a newer wxwidgets3.0:

wxmaxima
xmlcopyeditor

And that leave erlang, which from the codesearch hits looks like it probably
includes the literal numeric values corresponding to each wxLANGUAGE_* enum
- I will need to look at what needs doing to regenerate that list.

Cheers,
Olly

Thanks for reporting this issue. Unfortunately it looks like upstream
doesn't using an issue tracking where this could be forwarded to.

The best way forward seems to patch these issues ourselves and file it
upstream as merge request.

Kind Regards,

build mapsembler2 on powerpc, although probably all the other __sync_*
calls should be replaced by __atomic_*. I didn't test if the package
still works after these changes.

Bug#766299: nxproxy: BIG-REQUESTS patch builds but fails at runtime

Control: tag -1 - patch

Hi Paul,

thanks for helping with improving NX code. I am one of the Debian
maintainers of nx-libs-lite as well of the release manager of X2Go, a
terminal server solution that uses nxproxy and acts as upstream for
the packages in Debian.

I test your patch and it results in several nxproxy crashes every 1-2
minutes. The output of the session.log file you can find below.

Please check nxproxy when working together with nxagent (deb
http://packages.x2go.org/debian jessie main) and hopefully you can
find some changes for your patch (as I would love to have BIG-REQUESTS
support in NX).

Hi,

I have updated the proposed patch to also use LibreOffice-specific name spaces
in
the description.xml of the plug-in (it refused to work without). Problem is that
after installation of the patched plug-in, the dialog doesn't pop up. I would
suppose that there's something wrong with the update done to the code
responsible for opening a dialogue.

Bug#760058: Will Ogre 1.8 remain in Jessie? (Was: The other packages)

Ah, apologies. I assumed that you would be monitoring the games mailing
list but I probably should not have made that assumption.

So as I said, I hoped to have only 1.9, but that doesn't seem possible now,
specially because there was no reaction from CEGUI (*) and another

(*) I think that, if somebody is interested, s/he should offer help to the
maintainer, or request to adopt the package; because the package is
awfully
out of date.

I'm afraid that it won't help for Jessie but I would be happy to help
whoever is maintaining CEGUI. It's used in Ember and I'm a little
familiar with it from upstream Ember work.

I do not think that Release Managers are going to grant exceptions to this
package, though. I would probably leave it as it is (seems the safer
route),
hope that 1.8 is not removed during the freeze, and upload the latest
upstream
to experimental supporting 1.9 at some point in the near future.

Ok, sounds good. I'll plan to work with Stephen on updating the
remaining libraries and getting all of the newest packages into
experimental.

Bug#766738: Request to Join Project pkg-haskell from Daniel Gröber (dxld-guest)

Of these, it seems to me at first glance that only djinn-ghc and m
onad-journal
are not in Sid. The latter has no unpackaged dependencies, while t
he former

needs djinn-lib.

In summary, if I'm not missing anything, ghc-mod 5.1.1.0 would nee
d to have

djinn-ghc, djinn-lib and monad-journal packaged.

Just verified that using the package-plan.

I think that’s a reasonable way forward.

Daniel, this might be a good start for you. Would you care to prepa
re

packages for these three additions, and I’ll review them?

I'll give it a go :)

Bug#766792: packagekit: Does not ship pkla file

2014-10-25 Thread Laurent Bigonville
Package: packagekit
Version: 1.0.1-1
Severity: important

Hello,

The PackageKit package is currently only shipping polkit file that are
compatible with polkit >= 0.112 which is only in experimental.

Debian unstable and jessie still ship 0.105 which uses pkla files.

That should be fixed for jessie IMHO.

Cheers,

Oh, I wasn't aware that 3.x was in the archive. I see it in aptitude,
but a search on packages.d.o returns nothing, and the package's page
shows "Error: No such package" for me. Can you reproduce this?

Bug#757851: accessibility: orca says always "not selected"

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

I use Orca, screen reader, to vocalize MATE. For this I export gail
and atk-bridge

GTK_MODULES. I open caja and try to select several files.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

I press shift key, then arrow keys, to choose the files I want to
select. They

are selected, since I can copy, move or remove them.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

But orca (gnome-orca) says "not selected".

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

It should say "selected", and nothing when nothing is selected. I'll
forward to

Orca team too, but I think Orca speaks this because a wrong info are sent to
at-spi.

Thanks,

Upgrading severity to important for this issue. I really think we
should get this into caja in Debian jessie.

Bootstrap v2.x is abandoned, especially that it needs Recess which is
also abandoned and broken with recent less releases. There is a hope
there will be an updated Recess[1], but its state is unknown.
You can use version 3.x by the way, packaged as libjs-bootstrap .

This cannot be correct, as liblinear1's Recommends was already demoted
to a suggests with version 1.8+dfsg-2. I guess you were reporting from
wheezy?

I'm merging this bug with the previous bug.

fixed 766172 38.0.2125.101-3

Hello !

I can reproduce the issue in 38.0.2125.101-2+b1 by purging and
re-installing chromium. However with version 38.0.2125.101-3 (from sid)
I am not getting this error anymore.
